Transformers Movie - DVD & HD DVD Sales Break Records

Saw it at 8, and then 11:30 last night. It was great hearing the crowed cheer. The Barricade and Bumble Bee chase got one of the louder pops. The Music/smoke cloud/ass-kickery just gelled right there.

... that damn JJ Abrams movie is what keeps repeating in my head... WTF WAS THAT!!! Nice fucking teaser...but a name would help!
This movie was quite terrible.

Thanks for the godawful 45 minute teen sex comedy "intro." It was developing characters? Bullshit, the human characters were just as paper-thin and cookie-cutter at the end of the movie as they were at the beginning. The main kid feigning sadness over the injured Autobot (who I won't name for spoiler reasons) is one of the more laughable attempts at emotion in a film that I've seen in a while. They didn't make the Autobots out to be magnificent or imposing until the tail end of the movie...they were practically awkward teenagers like the majority of the human cast.

The effects were nice, but when every battle winds up with big piles of mismatched and jagged metal flipping around in the air and you can't tell what the fuck is going on, it gets old pretty quickly.

The humor fell flat to all but the most simple creatures in the theater. "HA HA THE DOG PISSED ON HIM!"

Optimus Prime was about two one-liners away from spouting off a "Surf's Up!" or "Cowabunga!" That said, at least they tried to shoehorn some personality into Prime, but he comes off more like a confused pissbag pansy than an intelligent leader.

I did think all of the voicework was well done. So, uh, that was fine.
That's pretty much how I felt, but maybe not as much.

I still found enjoyment in the movie, but it could have been so much better.

went to see the screening yesterday in Long Beach...... All I got to say is that Fanboys need to shut the hell up. There is no reason to cheer every frickin time a car transforms into a robot and vice versa. Idiotic audience of fanboys were making a ruckus at least 50% of the time during that film. The movie is called transformers yet they go crazy at the most mundane shit. It was so annoying my friend even left halfway through.

Either way this movie is just ID4 (Independence Day) with robots and more Special FX. Typical Michael Bay Fare but enjoyable. Plot/Dialogue/Characters were pure ass as expected. It's quite amusing how many parallels you can draw to this movie and ID4. It even has it's own version of Area 51 and government "secret knowledge" of existence of aliens.
Easily the best summer blockbuster yet. Just decimates Spider Man 3 and Pirates 3.
Anything decimates Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3. They joined my list of worst movies of all time.

I'm guessing that if they put the name of the movie it would give away what the fire thing was and for now they want to keep it a secret.

Now that I think about it, there was one thing I didn't like about the movie. Too much advertising. Almost anywhere you looked there was an ad for something.
One way this movie could have been better is if they had

Bruce Campbell
That would make any movie better.

The SD card was the worst for me.

I kinda (ok, REALLY) liked the
Mountain Dew Machine
transforming, and the
xbox 360
was kinda cool. Watching the GMC logo move into place got laughs from both crowds

God forbid they enjoy it. Hell, the loudest laughing and biggest cheers came form what at least seemed like non-fans. My lady friend enjoyed the shit out of that movie even though shes never cared about Transformers.

I have no problem with people cheering at appropriate moments. Cheering at every fucking transformation or every time they mention the name Optimus Prime is not appropriate.

ok... I just came back from seeing it the second time.

My crowd wasn't full of energy as last nights crowd but oh well.

as for the allspark
when sam fell the energy just started zapping other things and bringing them to life... so nothing about negative energy as megatron wasn't using it. Frenzy was just too much comic relief.

just be thankful that this movie was not produced by Sony... or else you would have seen a sony memory stick and sony computer instead of a mac.

In Keeping with the funny racist movie cliche's....

it's quite amusing how the only autobot that dies is the black one........

amen to that
when I heard his voice for the first time...
I knew that he was going to die in the end by being ripped apart by the white transformer.

uh is that good or so so?? 30million+ on a three day weekend is good but this was a preview showing, today is the official day, so..............
It says 67% of what POTC:AWE did, so its not that great. Though this movie wasn't advertised with a July 2nd release. It was kind of for people in the know. Word of mouth alone will make this movie a giagantic success (no pun intented)

88 million is a lot...and its only been out for a day...thats pretty amazing. I bet this is going to break records of sorts.

And this is probably the best movie I've seen so far this summer (or year...besides Hot Fuzz :p )...then again Simpsons is still yet to come and if Rush Hour 3 counts as a summer movie...

its not 88 million, its 8.1 million... god that will be bigger then opening day for either star wars (any of the prequels), harry potter, spiderman, or LoTR if it was 88 million for one day.

I just thought it was the shockwave from whatever attack it was, I didn't think it was just him falling on it which was caused by the attack.

Well I just read the link since that site is blocked from here and thought it said 88 :p

saw the movie last night and i thought it was pretty good, at least better than i expected....the only thing i found un-necessary about it was probably the scene where ironhide was flipping over a screaming chick and shooting at the same time...i'm definitely gonna see the movie again on imax
One thing I don't understand is that there's a design for Soundwave(why the fuck is he a truck?), but he hasn't been mentioned for the movie. Is he going to be in it or just in the toy line?
I figured out why Soundwave isn't in the movie.....

I saw earlier today with my younger brother who had never seen the original cartoon or anything like that. We both enjoyed it a ton.

I was kinda worried at first because the majority of the theater was young children, but they all behaved for once and I was able to watch it in peace. Anyhow, it's a damn good move.

In an unrelated note, the trailer to I Am Legend was pretty cool too.

im going to say Simpsons will be a major flop. then again i think we seen the biggest flop this summer that almighty movie. heard it had a 175 million buck cost and will be lucky to get 75 to 100 of that back.

i might try to go see it friday or thursday but doubtful. If i knew they had 930am showings today i would of went probally was empty then

lol about the preview

I just saw the Cloverfield trailer at work and it's going to be pretty intense! It is from the perspective of people's camera in NYC. A huge earthquake breaks up a going away party. The people at the party go to the roof top just in time to catch lower Manhatten erupt into a ball of fire! They make their way to the street to witness the head of the statue of liberty fly down the street, end clip with screaming! Insane

ummm if they ran upstairs to get away from an earthquake why would they run downstairs if they see everything catching on fire " )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what is CLOVERFIELD? Well, word from inside the company is that CLOVERFIELD is a giant monster movie, featuring something that's being referred to internally as "The Parasite," and we’re going to see a trailer for it very soon that’s been designed and shot even as we speak. I’m not sure if it’s going to be attached to TRANSFORMERS or if we’ll see it later in the summer, but it’s definitely coming soon. And the end of it should feature one of those iconic images that makes people talk about a trailer for months.

And what makes this different than any other giant monster movie? Well, as I understand it, most of the film is going to be shot using home video cameras, as if from the point of view of real people who are experiencing an attack on New York. It’s designed as a fairly small picture, all things considered, and right now, they’re working to make sure the script is going to deliver some wild thrills (like an earthquake that levels Manhattan or an oil tanker flipping over by the Statue of Liberty), but that it’s not suddenly going to turn into a giant $150 million movie. It’s a tricky balance, and if they pull off everything they’re trying to do, CLOVERFIELD could be something really groovy. Not a man in suit in sight.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one and STAR TREK, and I’m sure down the road, there will be real DARK TOWER news to report. Just not yet.

so think Monster movie + blair witch project rip off

also with the last star trek flopping why make another one.

Dark tower movie would be interesting But doubtful it ever gets made (this is the same dark tower stephen king made right)

Okay this is coming from someone who has only seen a Transformers cartoon prob about 2 times in my life. I can honestly say I was blown totally away! The way the "transform" effects were done in real life backdrops took my breath away. Easily better then Spidey 3 and Im a HUGE comic book fan. In fact I am going to track down the old cartoons on Ebay to learn more about Transformers!

Pretty damn good movie! A couple of corny parts that I could've done without, but MAN, those guys at ILM did awesome. The transformers looked soooo DAMN great! Thumbs up!
Do any of you think this will come to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD or both before years end?

Not a chance, however, it'd probably make it very soon next year.

OMG THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE IS AMAZING!!!

just saw it today! and now I am wanting to buy the Beast Wars cartoon that aired years ago, I loved it!

OMG OMG OMG

Awesome action, but the story was a complete, feature-length joke. Some of it was funny, but I would have preferred that they scrapped the entire trying-to-relate-to-the-ghetto-and-ghetto-wanabees aspect of the movie. Everything that wasn't out and out action ranged from pretty funny, to pure torture. With most of teh torture being failed attempts at being "hip".

But I digress, it was meant to be a throw-away summer flick that attempts to appeal to kids, ghetto people and TF fan-boys in equal parts and for the most part, it succeeds.

ok here are the editing goofs from what I could tell
-During the scene where bumblebee *stalks* Sam and Sam sees him outside the window, he appears to be making breakfast (I think he said something like "too early for this...") meaning it could be early morning. So the entire stalking, to Barricade chases him til Bumblebee beats the shit out of him takes all day until night? or did this happen mid afternoon for a few hours?

-Last time we see Barricade is when he *reports in* when all the decepticons were to report to the hoover dam but we don't see him for the rest of the movie. He got the shit kicked out of him by Bumblebee earlier so this could either be a editing goof or Barricade could have fallen back and waited to see what happened next.

-The Allspark appears to have changed size and colors (brighter, cleaner, darker, dirtier) during megatron's chase of Sam throughout the city. Some scenes it is bigger other it's cleaner, others its darker.

-Watch the scene where Sam and his father meet the car dealer (Berny Mac). There is this weird color shift . I noticed this the first time and second time. Both occurred on two different screens.

-The tank toy is called Brawl, but in the movie he is called Devistator. This can be easily fixed by the time it reaches the DVD as it's just a subtitle change.

-the rouge transformers that were brought to life just disappeared.

that's all I could think of in the editing parts.

Beast Wars is easily my favorite Transformers series.

i got in line at 11:00am.
it was fun hanging with all the crazies in line.
the movie was pretty good. i think it could have been alot better, though.
i dont really like the all spark angle. even for a story about tranforming robots from outer space it was to far fetched for me.
i also think the movie had way to much human screen time. this movie is about the 'bots, move over Jesus(big lebowski reference).
even with that said, i can't wait for a sequel.

Now I really love the G1 TF stuff so I went into this movie with a mindset that I was ready to accept the changes they had made to the G1 stuff.
I was impressed by the transformations and stuff, but a little dissappointed at how little time each different TF had as well as often being lost on whether I was looking at an Autobot or a Decepticon due to the speed of the fighting and not being able to realize whether I was seeing a foot or a head.
The main part that destroyed it for me was the military stuff....With my military background there were just too many "yea right, that shit would never happen" type situations. Silly little things like Soldiers with goaties or full grown hair or calling the Secretary of Defense, SECDEF. Or allowing kids just out of high school as they described it to work around such high security information. The casting could've been redone especially in the whole Soldier department. It really bothered me a lot that there were a few roles that were totally unnecessary, which could've been dedicated to more individual transformer time.
This movie was a "meh" for me. It was nice to see the cartoon visualized in a movie, but it had too many little flaws for me to fully enjoy it. I think being in the military really had a lot to do with it as I picked up on stuff some of you guys would not have.

I also was bothered by the hair, the bad looking MARPAT, but more so by the ineffectiveness of 'our weapons'. I wanted to see those A-10's blow something to shit. All the hardware in this film felt empty and hollow.

All the robot on robot action felt boring also. It wasn't like they were hurting each other. The action was shot way too close also.

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that the action was way too close. It was just hard to distinguish on what was going on.

Jazz got killed really easy, Megatron just split him in half. It was kind of weird to see him go down that easy. What made me want to walk out of the theater was when the Soldier jumped on a motorcycle, jumped off of it, slide down underneath a Decepticon and shot his grenade launcher at it. There was just too much of that "yea right" stuff

Its funny to see people nitpicking the little stuff...Its a movie about giant fucking robots that transform into vehicles...accept it for what it is and you'll allow yourself to enjoy it a lot more.
With my military background there were just too many "yea right, that shit would never happen" type situations.
Brings back memories of watching GI Joe with my friend and his dad. His dad was in the army and would rip GI Joe ever time we watched it...classic.

On another note, did anybody get the itch to grab some of the toys after watching the movie? I couldn't resist picking up Jazz today at work. :D

I already picked up Blackout and Starscream the first day they came out, then about 2 weeks ago I picked up Barricade after seeing the online footage of him confronting Sam.

I can just see all the Transformers nostalgia coming! From comics to cartoons to toys! Hope whoever has the rights to the G1 cartoons releases them soon!

Like I said before, Hasbro would make a killing if they re-released the original (non repaint) G1 toys. They are doing that with star wars (and releasing figures that were never made or extremely rare example the dark trooper :) )

by the way, did anyone's crowd laugh when the Hasbro title came up on the screen during the preview showing!?!? that was weird.

Saw the movie with a friend today, better than I thought it would be. Would have enjoyed more Autobot Vs. Decepticon fighting scenes and less of the scenes with only humans, but oh well. Already picked up the Starscream figure, might pick up a few others this week.

Its been there....I've been buying comics for the past few months:

Check here for series: http://www.idwpublishing.com/titles/tf-headquarters.shtml

Toys have been great, the Alternators line has been awesome as well as the movie series.

Sony/Columbia owns the rights to the G1 series, they were supposed to re-release the series this year before the movie, but it got cancelled, though I'm sure the release of the film and the films success will change their mind soon enough.

Actually during my senior year, I got a packet from the NSA to apply for an internship where I'd spend my summers in Virginia/DC. If I recall properly, there were only about 1500 students contacted which would be pared down to about 15 total at the end. They were looking specifically for CS, IT, mathematics, and linguistics majors. I think my being contacted was a combination of my father's history in the Navy and working as a military contractor afterward with Secret-level clearance, our being Filipino (many of the rare non-Catholics in the country tend to be radical Muslims), and my super-high PSAT scores. (Hadn't taken the SAT at the time.) During our pre-graduation awards ceremony, I also got some sort of special award from the Marines, though I wasn't the top male graduate nor even the top male military brat (I think there was one higher ranked than me); our top female grad/Valedictorian got the same award, but I don't think I ever knew whether or not she was a military brat.

That said, if any of you reading this aren't too old, the PSAT just might be the most life-changing test in your life. Score high enough and you don't need to worry about getting into/paying for college. You'll hear from recruiters. Dem schools sure love them some National Merit Scholars.
