Transformers: War for Cybertron - Gen. Discussion & Info

I haven't been following this game very closely- other than hearing that it is supposed to be really good. I just heard it has campaign co-op for 3 over the internet. Is that true or is it only co-op in some sort of special mode or something?

Nope, you can play the campaign online with 2 other people.

Full 3 player internet (or local iirc) co-op for the story/campaign. Full multiplayer a la MW2/GoW style arena play. Full on "horde" mode called Escalation.

I've had this game since the week it came out and I just found out that the Jet TFs have 2 weapons in vehicle mode. Would have been more convenient to use the machine guns with the Autobot jets in some parts.

I just finished my copy and I didn't know they had machine guns till now :bomb:

Great game. A game I recommend everyone to try at least once. Campaign was fun but MP is even better. This game has a lot of long term value.
donut are you looking to keep your game?
I'm looking to sell it ($40) but unfortunately it's going for cheaper than what I think it's worth on ebay ($30). Unfortunately not looking for any trades at the moment. FWIW, my copy is still in mint condition :D

I got the DLC pack. I played as Jazz and Shockwave in Escalation. Jazz has a different R2 ability (I forget what it was). He's like Bumblebee but looks cooler. I was doing really well with him. Unfortunately my teammates were always in the air as the jets so I was on my own on the ground.

Shockwave is fun but he doesn't have any new abilities, just Levitate and Shockwave (appropriate). His jet form looks cool. I was doing well with my teammates in that but we got ganged up on by a bunch of Zeta Prime holographs.

I haven't tried to confirm, but I believe you can use the new characters bodies to customize your character in MP. I also haven't played the new MP maps (or Escalation maps). I think you'll get more out of the DLC if you like Escalation since you play as the characters.

I played as Demolisher and he's definitely necessary if you want to get far in Escalation. As long as his Ammo Beacon is up, everyone gets free reloads of ammo. My teammates opened the doors on the right side, the health grenades are a huge help when someone needs to be revived but there are too many enemies nearby. We lasted up to level 8, could have gone on longer except 2 guys ran off to do their own thing.

anyone still play this? i got it off ebay for 28. the SP was thoroughly enjoyable. online though is really annoying. the lag is horrendous. im getting killed by melee when the guy isnt even close to me. or ill have full health and get killed instantly by a ramming leader, but when i do it, i merely bounce of people and then die from them shooting at me. wish they just focused on a longer SP experience instead of tacking on shitty MP.

I played it a lot but have put it aside the last 2 weeks. It might be your connection or the hosts you're playing with. I've never had those problems.

THIS is what aggravates me about many modern games though, is that co-op is done via online multiplayer ONLY. What if I have two friends on the same PS3 who want to play this game with me? I'm fucked basically.

It's stupid. Too many devs do this too. It's annoying.

As much as it sucks, it appears that most developers are slowly phasing out local co-op/multiplayer.

Ah crap, all of the bonus experience points are over? Man, I really need to level my classes up :whistle2:(

I need to unlock the Prime mode (whatever that thing is). Anybody want to boost exp, let me know. I have no problem playing online, but the grinding is annoying as hell, not to mention occasional out of sync control/graphic. Then the stupid freezing problem.

I've had this game since it first came out. I watched my one buddy play both campaigns all the way through and saw him struggle with running out of ammo frequently, so that really put me off playing this game.

I guess I should play it sometime, but I just can't bring myself to since you can't really roam around Cybertron that much. In other words, the game's too fuckin' linear for my liking.

 you expect too much CheapestG. Personally, I think WFC is a good game. It's a lot like Gears of War (linear, duh). It's not like InFamous or Red Dead you know...

Co-op is very cool with buddies (again, much like Gears of War). Playing on HARD solo is pretty challenging, ammo is definitely a problem (unlike Gears ).

The plus side of WFC is transformation. The bad thing is that the transformation is out of control sometimes (the combination of L3, L1 to speed and R2 to boost sometimes don't work well). If you're gunning for the Motor Master trophy, I think you know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I liked the game and this is the only game I'm trying to platinum that involves online trophies. Leveling all of the classes to 25 is a PAIN!

I need EXP boost otherwise I'll be grinding hours and hours for the EXP points...

The melee attacks in this game are pretty useful. I only played through the first level, but I killed most of the guys with the axe.

But if I remember correctly there's NO local co-op, only ONLINE garbage, which was one of my main gripes soon after my buddy started playing the game.

I figured we could blow through the whole game together in about a week and then I would trade it in during a decent GS promo and get $40 of the $63 I paid back in credit again.

So after finding out it wasn't local co-op, I decided to wait till he was done with it and then try it for myself. But instead I went back to playing Red Dead Redemption.:D

And have I mentioned that I haven't even finished Just Cause 2 as of yet either?

Yeah. I kinda gave up on this game after seeing my friend play it and just kept forgetting to take it in to trade in while it was still getting decent credit.

As for the trophies thing, if I get any trophies for a game or not it's not really a big deal for me since I don't really care about them.

You're right about the local co-op on this game. I was surprised that the co-op is only for online (I assumed it can be done in split screen ). Until of course, I can't find any option to play it in two players mode locally

Anyhow, it was a good game and I love Transformers.

Hopefully if this game did well enough they'll make a bit of a sandbox title on Cybertron and maybe a portion of it on Earth as well. I'd love to be able to explore Cybertron a bit more than this game allowed.

if you run out of ammo in this game, then your aiming sucks. plain and simple. never once had i struggled with ammo with the exception of the final boss of the autobots campaign.
if you run out of ammo in this game, then your aiming sucks. plain and simple. never once had i struggled with ammo with the exception of the final boss of the autobots campaign.
Hmmm, not if you play on HARD. The enemies are harder to kill and shoot/cover technique really needs a lot of ammo. Playing on easy on the other hand, you can spam with melee attacks.

On the contrary, the boss fights, Energon cubes and ammo respawn periodically, so I never have problems with ammo (Energon cubes respawn slower, ammo respawn as soon as you ran out).

The Autobot campaign is a lot harder than the Decipticon one. Trypticon is harder to kill comparing to Omega Supreme.

That aside, I still need to boost EXPs, anybody know any short cuts? Please help out a fellow Cybertronian, thanks!
well, i just played normal, then the last check points on hard. no point in playing the whole game on hard
LOL so true... To unlock the HARD trophy, you only need to beat the last scene in the chapter on HARD. I didn't know that until I was 60% into the story mode. There was this respawn glitch which makes the game very difficult to continue on HARD. I stuck on that part for a long time, couldn't figure where to go since if I advance like Rambo, I die very quickly. If I shoot and cover, ammo problem, because those Decipticons kept coming (never ends!). This is the part where you have to escort the Autobot prisons to safty or something.

Anyway, after I switch to EASY, oh man, you can just blast your way through the entire game. Only thing kills you is pits, crushing metal plates, the giant fans...

Trypticon is a monster, it took me forever to put him down, one bad mother! With Omega Supreme, at least you got some covers before he blows them away and also you can drive around too (no pesty spiders too)

I just realized that there's no EXP in private matches :whistle2:(

Aside from special EXP days, there's no easy way to level up? Man, pain in the butt...
We can thank CoD4 for this awful format of multiplayer every single game has adopted.
Oh, I didn't know it started from CoD4... Honestly, this is the first game I'm trying to collect the online trophies so that I can get the platinum. Of all other games with online trophies, I simply ignore them.

I guess being a fan of Transformers and it's a good game, it's a shame not to platinum it (not very hard to do). Man, a lot of grinding though... When is the next 2x or 4x bonus EXP points play?

I'm pretty sure CoD4 was the first game, or at least first very popular game, to have levels and unlockables for online MP. I like the online of Halo 3 and CoD2 more since everyone is on the same level and you just play. No killstreaks or other nonsense and it doesn't punish you for not playing constantly since Day 1.

get intoa boosting group. get 5 together in a team, then tell the other 5 to join as soon as the game starts. hope most get into the game, then trade off node captures for the entire game. when it was 4xp weekend, in orbital, i remember getting almost 50K in 1 match. (maybe more, its been awhile)

50K in one match  That's a handsome amount of EXP, man, I can only rake like 1500 per match in power node :whistle2:( (when playing with higher level guys/gals, I earn even less).

I'm hoping for another EXP bonus night...

orbital is the best boosting map, cuz 2 nodes are right across from each other, the teams would capture their respective nodes, transform, then go across the map to recapture the one they just lost. do that for the full time frame with 4x exp and you get a massive amount.

Thanks 8bits... How do you guys know the bonus EXP nights coming up ahead of time? Facebook? Man, I wish there's an alert or something...
if you run out of ammo in this game, then your aiming sucks. plain and simple. never once had i struggled with ammo with the exception of the final boss of the autobots campaign.
I'm a sprayer when I play shooting games most times, so that may explain why I feel that I'd run out of ammo like my buddy kept doing on his run through it.

But as long as the melee weapons work well when you're out of ammo I should be ok.
Thanks 8bits... How do you guys know the bonus EXP nights coming up ahead of time? Facebook? Man, I wish there's an alert or something...
they announce them on facebook i think, but id always see a thread about it on ps3trophies.org or while youre finding a game, the scrolling portion up top will let you know as well. the 4xp was the first time they ever did that. id go to the trophy website and add everyone still looking to boost the trophies. we've had as many as 14 ppl at once boosting (the 4 ppl who didnt get in were just SOL for that game)

I just popped the game in now, so I'll probably be on playing in a bit, since I don't think I deleted the installed files from when I initially loaded it up on my PS3 a while ago.

Alright. I played about half of the first level of the Decepticon campaign and I got bored with the game already.

So if anyone was considering getting this game but hasn't as of yet and has been keeping track of this thread I put mine up for $43 SHIPPED with the unused Shockwave code on a GS receipt.

you can get it on ebay for $30 fyi

Good for those who go on Ebay, but I'd sooner snap the disc in half than give it away for that little. I'm trying to get a reasonable amount for it AND giving a bonus item I don't really have to give away with it to sweeten the deal.

If someone wants it, then great. If not, then chances are I'll keep it and begrudgingly play it at some point.

The amount covers my shipping cost and what I wanna get out of the game as far as money goes.

Cool thanks, i'll keep that in mind... I don't go for online trophies, but making exception for WFC, it's a good game and I'm determined to get that elusive platinum trophy, I need it for pride
didnt they add shockwave into some of the recent dlc?
yeah he is dlc along with other characters and maps for $10. cheapest, you should have sold that dlc code when it was going for $100 on ebay. im sure most CAGs use ebay as well, so just face the fact that youll have to begrudgingly play through the campaign.
