Transformers: War for Cybertron - Gen. Discussion & Info

Umm... does going online take forever for anyone else? I'm taking the game online for multiplayer for the first time today, and its been sitting here for about 15 minutes on the loading screen.

Yeah, should only take a minute max.
I don't rent games. I haven't for at least 5 years when the only rental store downsized and quit carrying games. They write game reviews for a reason and you can easily find people online who own the game and ask them what they think.

No demo should not be the only reason to never buy a game.
I don't even know a place where I live that carries good games (we only have a blockbuster that carries like a million Rock Band 2's).

And I do agree with your last reason. I have never watched a Transformers movie (good or bad? :bouncy:) and thus, I'm not a fan of it. And that's why I want a demo so I can see how it plays. If it is fun to me, then I would consider buy it.

@TheCheapestGamer

SoTC's world was amazing to explore. I really enjoyed that part but for some reason, I hated fighting the boss things. For me, exploring > fighting in that game.

That's what I find myself doing in Red Dead Redemption ALOT is just exploring the massive open game world. Hopefully they'll make another Transformers game similar to this one but make it a big sandbox where you can go exploring the entire planet.

Personally, I was wishing they would've had Unicron in this game and both sides have to give up their petty differences to fight him for a final battle.
I don't see how thats a dumb reason. I want to play the game to see how it plays. I bought Shadow of the Collosus (spelling?) because everyone said it was amazing and stuff but I did not like it. I don't wanna get burned again. Is it dumb to be cautious?
I understand where you're coming from. I bought Bioshock, cause everyone said it was great... a "thinking man's shooter" well fuck it.... I didn't like bioshock. No one can predict if YOU are going to enjoy a game or not. All I can say reference WFC is that there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the game that would keep you from enjoying it. I just finished it, and I enjoyed it. WFC is like a like nice Summer Movie

GAMESPOT REVIEW

GOOD
* Moving around as a vehicle, especially a jet, is fun
* Escalation provides a clever twist to the standard Horde mode
* Competitive play has unique classes and plenty of rewards to strive for.

BAD
* Lack of visual and gameplay variety in the campaign
* Paucity of ammunition
* Boss fights are incredibly tedious
* Friendly and enemy AI is poor
* Transformations are integrated poorly with the core action.

I took a look at the Gamespot review (and remember why I never read any review from them) and seems to me that this review is punishing the game for having the Transformers License. Which is evident from his quote (in my opinion) "it's impossible to shake the feeling that this would be another quickly forgotten shooter if you were controlling a random assortment of robot warriors instead of Optimus Prime and his crew of do-gooders." If this game would have been without the transformer's license, the main complaint would have been.. "it has characters that no one care's about"
i wonder if its that one where jetfire first came back. dammit now i want to know.
Realized I actually screwed this up. He was a decepticon, but a scientist not a warrior. Jetfire was also a decepticon scientist who crashed when they both were researching prehistoric earth during an ice age.

Just beat the game. Fun, though some of those boss battles need to be rebalanced. Really frustrating when the enemy AI targets you and your friendly AI is just standing there not really doing anything. Add in one-hit kills and you come close to breaking your controller. Overall, not bad. Hoping High Moon releases a patch soon to fix a few things and improve the lag online. Would like to try and Platinum this if possible...thinking Co-op for the HARD difficulty is the only way to go.
Anyway....

Can anyone compare this game to the awesome Melbourne House PS2 game?

I didn't buy the lame movie games, and I did play the JPN only one that Cheapest talked about (and it did suck...A LOT) but I loved the PS2 version that Melbourne House did, that game was a transformers game done right.

http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Transformers_(Melbourne_House)

So anyone who's played both have any comparison between the two and if I'll enjoy this one based on my experience with the older version.
I'm used to being ignored on the Wii board (which is why I don't go there often), but come on, no one here can take 5 minutes to answer my question?

Or has anyone who played this game just never played the PS2 game I'm talking about?

Any comparison between the two games? Anyone, Bueller, Anyone? ;)

I played the 2004 one, which was based off of the Transformers Armada animated series, I believe. It was ok, but nothing spectacular.

As for whether or not it compares to this game or not, I played about halfway through the 2004 game but I never finished it.

It did play something like this game, but then again I'm just going by the feeling I got from watching my friend playing this(till 4:30 this morning:bomb:).

I really want them to make a G1 game with the character designs I remember and make it a damn sandbox game so I can roam around and explore Cybertron and/or Earth.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question as best you could Cheapest, appreciate it. I'll have to look into this game more I guess and decide from there, I had hoped more people that played this, played that one and had some comparison as to the quality of both...guess not.
Don't know if this has been mentioned but there is double XP this weekend on the MP.
I was just debating whether or not I wanted to try and get the multiplayer trophies. Will definitely be on this weekend.

I've not played the 2004 game, but this is definitely worth playing. If you like Transformers, you won't be disappointed. Personally, I don't like G1 (tried watching some episodes but it's just too lame) but I grew up on Beast Wars and have toys from that and later series (shows kinda sucked but the Toys are always good) and I really like this game.

I loved Beast Wars. Trying to find Beat Machines since they started airing that at a different time and I never got to watch that :(

NOOOOO...! don't watch Beast Machines!!! It'll ruin your view of the beast ___ series, its crap on crap with a side of total crap, and I LOVED beast wars. Basically you take everything that was mediocre about beast wars (the CGI) and update it to good, and take everything that was great about beast wars (the characters, the plot, the designs) and make them total crap, and you get beast machines.

Also, beat this today, playing it on and off. I loved the final battle, even if it WAS a cheese fest.

This will help getting to the 4 classes to level 25. Yay...
This will help getting to the 4 classes to level 25. Yay...
Anyone know if XP gained in private matches counts towards your classes? If so we should get some CAGs together.

I finished the campaign tonight. Trypticon was a pain in the ass.

I played a couple games of Escalation mode. It's pretty fun, I like the emphasis on team work. I've always thought playing with people is more fun than playing against them.

I'm definitely up for a CAG group this weekend or any time. I'm a little rusty since I haven't played but I'll play some more tomorrow to get back to form.

Also, if anyone wants to do the co-op campaign, let me know. I'm definitely up for that, too.

You do not get any XP in private games.

My one buddy finished the campaign last night and the ending of the Autobot campaign was really over the top cheesy(like someone else said).

I don't even know if I'm going to try playing through this game or not. From watching him play I know there's gonna be some spots that're just gonna piss me off to no end with the repetition of them(aka Trypticon fight).

If Dead Rising 2 wasn't three months away, I'd probably put this on my TL in an even trade for DR2, but this'll probably get some price drops before then.

Anyone want to work on the Escalation trophy tonight? I'm also looking for some people to go through the Autobot campaign on Hard with seeing as how the AI is dumb as rocks.

I'm getting there. I have chapter 9 and 10 left. I hope to finish the game tonight. It really is the best Transformers game this gen. Some of it is drug out and cheesy as some people have said before.
All 3 preorder characters will be coming out as DLC

Just threw my Shockwave code on eBay in the event someone doesn't do their research before buying.
Good idea. Someone on ebay bought one of the characters for over 100 bucks. Which is indeed crazy. Seems like Shockwave was selling for around 30 or more at one point.

I put it up for $24.99 BIN OBO. Shockwave's price has been all over the place lately.

It's a longshot, but I'd love to see them make Cybertronian versions of the Beast Wars characters.

I can concur on that, since I watched Optimus standing there in the middle of a battle doing absolutely NOTHING.

No offense meant to the devs(since it is a pretty decent game for the subject material), but the AI is closer to AS(artificial stupidity)in this and MANY other games.

SynGamer and I are looking for a 3rd person to do the last sections of the last 2 Decepticon and Autobot campaigns on Hard.

For the Decepticon one against Omega Supreme, whoever is Shockwave will have to be relegated to support. We tried it earlier (I was Shockwave) and it's just too hard because while one of us was reviving the other, Omega would just fire away and Brakedown would just stand around and do nothing.

We did ok against Trypticon at first, but then both of us got hurt and, again, Bumblebee just stood by one of us and did nothing.

Yeah, it sucked. The sad thing is with all three of us firing on the enemy we should be able to take it down in no time. The AI truly is useless, amazing how fast we went through some of the levels with two humans...

The Autobot jet mission where Trypitcon is falling to Cybertron is laughably easy in co-op. We did it on Hard and I don't even think that took 3 minutes for us to finish.

I played Escalation for a bit last night. Shit was awesome watching myself get assraped by 10 mobs while my teammates ran around and did fuck all while I died.
is it double xp now or tomorrow?
Starts tonight 9pm EST/6pm PST I believe.

You probably were just in a bad group. I've not had anyone like that before. In fact, one game we were doing really well in but I had to quit for dinner.

I got up to wave 14 in escalation last night. Me and my teammates did pretty well. I'll have to stick with Jetfire from now on until I don't do well.

I wish that at least one of the Autobot jets had machine guns as their vehicle weapon instead of all of them having rockets.

FYI, nobody get suckered into buying the DLC skin codes from pre-orders. The first map pack DLC coming out includes ALL OF THEM. Lol @ the $100 eBay sales; fucking idiots.

I still haven't even played this game and I've had it since it released. I really have to forgo buying games anymore till I'm done with the ones I have. I say that now, yet I'm still intrigued by Dead Rising 2 coming out on PS3 as well as 360 and I have a pre-order(only $5 this time though)down for it.

Just going by the gameplay I saw when my friend was playing my copy though, I'll probably hate this game and be annoyed by the seemingly ramped up difficulty on the major bosses.

Heh, don't we all. I have DS games from Christmas and console games from March still sealed.

Depends on the difficulty you play. Easy is easy (no surprise there). Medium (which is what I played) is challenging but nothing impossible after a few attempts. Omega Supreme is especially easy if you get this automatic machine gun (basically like a detached gun turrent) in the area. Trypticon is kind of a pain but once you figure out how to avoid damage, he's not mad. In Hard however, you can't beat them solo unless you're really lucky. The rest of the campaign Hard isn't bad though.

If you've ever liked Transformers at any point in your life, I think you'll enjoy it.

I was able to beat the campaign on Hard solo. There were a couple tough parts but I didn't think it was too bad. The boss battles are the best part of this game IMO. Most of them felt pretty epic.

July 27th, 2010
$10
2 new MP maps
2 new Escalation maps
5 new characters: Onslaught, Scattershot, Demolisher, Jazz, and Shockwave

Here's hoping that you didn't trek over to eBay to fork over hundreds of dollars for Transformers: War for Cybertron's previously retailer exclusive characters, as Activision and High Moon have officially announced the New Map and Character pack, set for release July 27th for PSN and Xbox Live for $10.00 and 800 MS Points respectively.

As detailed in the original leak of the DLC release here, the New Map and Character Pack DLC includes new characters Scattershot and Onslaught, as well as Shockwave, Jazz, and Demolishor, who were originally exclusive to pre-order customers at particular retail locations. The DLC also contains two new multiplayer maps, and also doubles the number of maps for the Horde-like Escalation mode to four.

So glad I sold my Shockwave code on eBay last week.

I'm never getting the fucking MVP multiplayer trophy for this game. The MP lag means unless I get good at shooting at shit that isn't there until 3 seconds later, I'm totally boned. :(

EDIT: Apparently, I got good at it.. and got it. :D
