TRU 12/22 $9.99 Game Sale Experiences/Stories

If you guys are really sleeping out for this, you are crazy. The only people I could forsee doing it are ebayers. Anyway, have fun. Post pictures.
 
I went to Toy 'R' Us earlier tonight and saw alot of copies of RE4 and I bought Doom 3 just as they were closing and it rang up at 9.98 suprisingly! So I'll definetly be going back tomorrow to get 3-4 more games I really want.

How come i highly doubt that. When i worked at toys r us, they didnt update the computers untill the morning when the manager got there.
 
I might go back tommorrow to get a price adjustment for a game I bought last week. If I can still find my reciept. XD I don't plan on actually buying any games though, if I do go it will be after 10pm at night.

All I can say it is, wow, what a crazy ass sale to be having right before Xmas.

Good luck to everybody else hitting up the sale though!

When I pass gas it rings up $9.98. Amazing! Stupendous!

I don't plan on going to this sale. All of the TRU's near my house are THE WORST. Seriously :p
 
Just got back. Picked up 2 copies of RE4 (one for a friend), 3 copies of Wario Ware GCN (2 for friends), and one copy of FZero GX (for a friend). There were 3 other guys there at opening (one from CAG). The store was well stocked (between the 4 of us, we left 2 copies of RE4), although I couldn't find 4 Swords or either of the Mario Parties. My TRU is usually picked over, but they must have recently restocked for the holidays. Not a bad morning's worth of work. Thanks to the guy who originally broke this deal, and thanks to CheapyD for this awesome ass-kicking site!
 
My store had a decent selection, though lacking some I particularly wanted. There was one other man who briskly walked towards R Zone at opening, but he was there for a GameBoy. Except for some interruptions from the paging system and some other folks looking for GameBoys or buying GBA games, I had the area to myself. I was very patient with the woman helping me and let everyone else take care of their small business ahead of me.

(360 story below)
I then made way to BestBuy (Orange Park, FL) and parked just as someone clutching a 360 was walking out the door. It was 8:30. I looked around for one of those long tables, but didn't find one. I turned towards Customer Service and saw several people with vouchers, so I hopped in line. They did a head count and declared me the lucky final person. Then they did another one and shrugged at me, the guy then pulling me aside. He recognized me from when he used to work at Rhino's, and told me that this store was running behind the other Jax stores on shipments, but they'd be getting more in for sale Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday morning (depending on when Friday they arrive). He told me to call Friday afternoon and ask specifically for him so that I could talk to someone who wouldn't keep the shipment status secret.

They said there were already people lined up when they opened, so I found myself fortunate that even at this time everything wasn't already sold.

I'd then left the store but made a U-turn right as I exited the door. One of my old friends (a former manager at EB) was working the voucher-holder line. Whilst waiting for him to finish ringing everybody up so I could chat and catch up, the manager emerges from the back with another Xbox. Wow. Lucky me. I'm very thankful my old friend was working there, otherwise I'd have driven home instead of sticking around those extra few minutes.

I bought the 2-year replacement plan. Something tells me this one will be worthwhile.

I mentioned it to the cashier and he said: "That asshole was just going to sell them on ebay not play them so I made something up about him not being allowed to buy two copies of a sale game." My hero.
 
Went to TRU in Niles...saw a couple guys with lists roaming the aisles, but I got the last copy of Fatal Frame 2 (trading with onikage for darkstalkers) and price adjusted my Halo 2 LE :D

No, I went to the one at the Rockaway Mall and the one on rt 46 in Parsippany both still had a lot of shit, but don't know about those particular titles.
 
The look on the cashiers face was priceless.
Another CAG even showed him the full list as I only had a trimmed list of what I was after.

Both of us left plenty for other CAGs to find in St. Charles, IL.

some guy at my toys r us was denied from buying ALL the copies of pirates and fatal frame 2 xbox...... he wasn't too happy!

to bad they had no conker......i want a copy....
 
I went to the TRU in eastgate, Both guys that worked there were clueless. Anyways I picked up

I didn't pick up squat... my TRU had, as I feared, been hoarded. I was going to pick up some Pikmin 2s since there were a few left. I decided to go look around some more and ended up finding nothing that I wanted. I noticed many of the clearance games were already marked with $9.98 price while others weren't.

So I go back to the Pikmin 2s and they're all gone! Some old guy snagged all 4 and was at the register being rung up. My brother picked up KuF: Burning Crusade and TOCA 2 so at least one of us found something out of this.

I figured I lost out on this deal and decided to just go back to customer service and PM the games I already bought. Funny thing... when I went back to PM them, the lady asked me if I knew how much they'd be and I told her $9.98 and she tried to PM them and they all rung up much less than 9.98: MK Deception KE was $6.68, DoAU was $8.98, and Golden Sun II was $3.98. But she adjusted them back up to $9.98... damn.:p Oh well, at least I got 3 games I kinda wanted.
 
17 games and a handful of Xbox and PSW contollers later... Ryan wins! I got to TRU at about 8:05 and I only saw one other person come in with a list at about quarter after and picked up a few games. I tried to talk DDS but the guy seemed more interested in the Pikmin picture on the game box... Either way I got in without anyone else bothering or hoarding at all. I got everything I had wanted aside from Conker. What a deal!
 
i have a question. are all the games marked down visibly? or did u just take em to teh cashier and hoping it was 10 bucks? is there a price scanner there like in target? thanks i would like to know

Not marked, just bring em up to the front. So far every game I tried on the list works so you shouldn't be shot down.

just got back from TRU and there was only one other guy getting in on this deal. he was a CAG which was cool. i ended up getting Tekken 5, Resident Evil 4 and Area 51. here in Idaho (Boise) it was litterally a jackpot because they had every game but Sid Meyer's Pirates. wish i had more money. i blew most everything on sunday because i camped out at best buy for the 360. oh well. good luck all.
 
I just came back from Pleasant Hill, CA TRU. There were 6 others with me at the door when it opened. 4 of them were friends and under 18, they didn't own a ps2, and that is all I had so I just went on to shoot the shit with them before it opened. The other guy had some big list but disappeared when it opened. Half of the games were in a bin while the other half was on shelves still. There was only one employee, and he said he wasn't finished yet. I went straight for the bin and picked up Psychonauts and Metal Slug 4 and 5, there were at least 5 copies of each there. The kids all went for Resident Evil 4, they each picked up one but a few were still left. I then went to the shelves and picked up Alien Hominid and Killer 7. Finally at the check out I asked if he had Digital Devil Saga and I got the last one, so that was sweet. On the way out, there was at least 6 more people throughout looking and picking up games.
 
oh and pleasant hill, ca TRU had everything. East Bay California basically is the anti-hoarding capital of the world. Gamecrazy sale: I was the ONLY person who even did it. Circuit City Sale: Only person before advertised. TRU: Stocked fresh with everything and no one who was there when it opened hoarded.
 
Am I the only one having problem? I got refused on doing price adjustment at the Hayward, CA store. The manager said he cant do it because it is a clearance.

That's bullshit. I got price adjusted no problem.

Anyway, I got to TRU in Oceanside, CA and already a couple of CAGs were there. I only had a list though. I gave it to them after I was done. The clerk was surprised at the prices, but she was kinda unhelpful. :(

Went to Toys R Us at around 8am and got a bunch of games that I wanted. No one knew about the sale and no one else was looking for anything.

The guy who was working used to work with me when I was at Funcoland many moons ago. Anyway, we're just shootin the shit and he asks me how much money I have on me. I give him a funny look and ask him why he wants to know. Tells me to hold on a second and goes in the back room. Comes out with a 360 premium in hand. I guess they had just gotten a shipment of 5 or so consoles this morning as well. I didn't get one though cuz I have about -$50 on me right now.
 
I checked out both the National City Store and the Chula Vista Store (CA). I got to the National City Store at about 8:03 and the Gates were still closed so I went ahead and waited with about 8 other people. As the store opened everyone went in and only one of the other people checked out the games section. I asked if he was a CAG and he gave me a very puzzled look, so I told him to check this site out. Anyhow I browsed the aisles and picked up these:

Romance Of The Three Kingdoms X (PS2)
Resident Evil 4 (NGC)
Pikmin 2 (NGC)
Fatal Frame II (XBX)
and the whole reason I went out: SMT: Digital Devil Saga (PS2)

This store had a few Resident Evil's left and one or two Pikmin's left. Pleanty of Fatal Frame's and Romance's. They also had a ton of the Final Fantasy:DOS on Advance. No more Pirates or SMT DDD's as I picked up the only copy of each.

After ringing out that purchase, I went ahead and drove over to the Chula Vista store, probably the only TRU that has a greeting sign of "Welcome Amigos," as you walk in, and a cardboard sign with "NO HAY XBOX 360 NO MORE" written on it, in the R-ZONE.

Anyhow this store had pretty much the same stuff. Pleanty of Resident Evil's and Pikmin's and Fatal Frame's. They also had pleanty of both Romance of the Three Kingdom's 9 and 10. Though no Digital Devil's at this store. So I walked out of there with:

Romance of the Three Kingdom 9
Samurai Western

I wanted to find the Mario Party games as well as the Wario Ware games, but no luck. I'm quite happy with my finds nonetheless. Hope everyone else is getting their games!
 
If they let us off from work early today, I will stop by my shitty TRU to look for Pikmin II. I have a feeling that they won't have anything worth buying.

I was there first thing this morning (sucks waking up at 5 A.M. and not getting back to sleep, except in cases like this). Only went in for RE4. The cashiers were completely shocked *anything* had been marked down, let alone that much. Initial reactions from the video game department rep and his manager were along the lines of "Which website did this come from". Everybody else there this morning gave a different website.

And tell me you weren't one of those people camped out for a 360 starting Friday night for Sunday's restock...
 
I feel kind of bad. My Toys 'R Us had four Pikmin 2's left, so I took one and continued to browse for the other games I came for--Conker, Psychonauts (XB), Killer 7 (GC), and Wario Ware (GC & GBA), among others. And then this guy notices that I'm holding Pikmin 2 and asks me where I got it. I'm serious--I though he was pretty harmless, but then I see he takes the last three copies! I felt bad enough as I continued to look for the rest of the games, but then this lady asks me where I got Pikmin 2, and I told her that I got it off of the table, but that there weren't any more. She seemed sad of course, and then proceeded to search for other games. She asked an employee if they had any more Pikmin 2 in the back, and they didn't, but then from what I could tell, she and the guy who took the rest got talking. I hoped that he would give her a copy, but it didn't appear that way, and I could've sworn that he, or someone around them said that she might want to try looking at another Toys 'R Us! I really should have told the guy that it would be nice if he could spare her a copy, even though I'm assuming that he would probably just sell them on eBay or something. Commence the flaming :(

Oh, and in case you didn't know already, Doom 3 CE, Killer 7 GC and Psychonauts XB are all still $30.
 
I was there early before they opened to see if there are some that I wanted. I believe I saw a *possible* hoarder there, because he was pushing a cart, have a list on hand and literately ask the person at the register almost all the games on the list. Now, I am not sure if he really is a hoarder or not, because I just grab some games and controllers and head out of the door. The employee could not believe how cheap the games are, and he kept saying stuff like "maybe I should get some of the games". :D

Overall, it was ok. I did run into an employee at another Toys "R" Us that either not sure how to do price adjust or just do not want to do it, because she told me to go back to the store that I bought the games from and do it there. :roll:
 
So early in the week I decided to case the joint, like most people. If they had the goods, I was going to snatch 'em up while I could rather than let some hoarder get it. Lo and behold I ended up getting shanghai'ed by someone who came in a little bit earlier than I did and cleaned up the whole stock of DDSes.

Since the DDS was really the only title I wanted for $10 that I was willing to PM for, I decided not to get anything else. Good stock, though. And rather than run out today (since I don't have too much money), I simply woke up after a nap sometime last night, saw the sale extended online, thanked god TRU sells through Amazon and used my massive amounts of credit there to buy games with complete and utter impunity towards shipping and handling. I ended up with DoA: Ultimate (which I would never have bought otherwise) and Doom 3 (ditto). Too bad my favorite titles never made it online but, hey, I'll go for some heavy-hitting Tier 2 titles if the first ones don't play out!

Besides, there's the possibility that I'll hit TRU tonight since, while some people are nice enough to hoard and whatnot and all of the major titles are gone, I'll sneak by and grab a few of the Tier 2 titles that most non-gamers and hoarders either don't know about or care about.
 
Was the only person at my TRU in New Mexico. Picked up RE4, WM21 and DOA: ultimate. Wanted to pick up more, but low on funds. Workers were real suprised with prices.
