Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
if anyone wants a gallop racer 2004 let me know. i just grabbed another one for trades .. man i hate TRU, i went in there to get a price adjustment and ended up spending another 15 bucks... I was just going in there to get the price adjusted off the game and the worker goes we only got 2 more of these Games you sure you dont want 1 more. So i gave them 15 bucks and got another one .... Cant wait till SEPT 27 for 70% off. There are some games i would like to grab but even at 50% off they are not worth it
The beauty of the 70% off date is its 44 days from yesterday. Meaning anything bought at 50% can be returned and rebought if there are any copies left (as far as I know, electronics have a 45 day return policy).

I'm totally going to get Gradius V tomorrow. It's quite rare, I didn't realize that when I passed it up this Sunday.
Wait, how did you get SC2 for $1.24? And if you meant they're from last year's clearence...why are you posting them now?
Well, I THOUGHT they were on last year's list since I remember both of them being pretty cheap. And as to how I got SC2 so cheap, the standard price (price that's on the tag on the sales floor) is $2.49. Plus the 50% off of that, it came out to $1.24 a pop.

Ok, one question...is there any way to price match a deal at another store if they don't have the game I want in stock at TRU?

I wanted Street Fighter AC, but it wasn't in stock. If I get CC to call TRU on the phone, can they check and see how much the game is on their computers, or do they just go by if the game is in stock or not?

YMMV... I've only done three price matches lately. Best Buy tends to check stock pretty consistently, whereas a store like Sears may or may not care (hell, when I got Baten Kaitos PM'd there, the guy actually asked if it was out of stock there, and I told him so), but a different Sears busted my ass consistently on Metroid Prime 2 when it was $14.99 and OOS at EBgames.com.

But even with those examples, it wil probably vary by the person you talk to.

If anyone has a TRU with Fire Emblem and Shining Soul 2 in stock, I would really appreciate it if you could pick it up. I'll pay for the price of game + taxes + shipping. Just PM me. Apologies in advance if I'm not suppose to make requests in this thread.

Gradius V - $15 --- w000t
One of the best shooters of all time. I was just playing it for the last hour, it's amazing. Stunning graphics, terrific stage and enemy design, and incredible difficulty on the higher levels. If your TRU has this, it's well worth the original $30, much less $15 ;)

I don't know how many will see this, but my TRU has plenty of the following games if anyone is interested:

R-Type Final
Gradius V
Street Fighter AC (PS2...maybe Xbox)

As I said, I picked up Iridion II. Goes perfect with Nanostray. Also, if anybody is also looking for anything in particular, let me know and I'll see what I can find. I have a general idea of what my TRU has. And let me know any notables yours has.

Thus far, I've picked up:

Galleon (XB)
Legacy of Kain: Defiance (XB)
Metal Slug 3 (XB)
Red Dead Revolver (XB)
Sudeki (XB)

Drakengard (PS 2)
Ghosthunter (PS 2)
Nightshade (PS 2)
Onimusha 3 (PS 2)
R-Type Final (PS 2) - for trade
Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS 2)
Tekken Tag Tournament (PS 2)

Still looking for:

Mario Golf Advance (GBA)
Mega Man X: Command Mission (GC)
Mega Man X8 (PS 2)
Bubble Bobble (GBA)

Here are a few games I couldn't find in a bunch of TRUs this evening, I was not looking really well for them because I had higher priorities, but I noticed they are online (most games are not).

GCN: Tony Hawk's Underground $9.97
PS2: Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space [CD-ROM] $19.99
XBOX: Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon

I think I have just about every green tag game I want finally :)

I couldn't find Silent Scope Complete anywhere but bought it elsewhere. I few others I originally wanted I ended up picking up here and there over the weeks. I got all the more uncommon ones I think so I'm really happy with the sale.

Thanks a lot OP and posters!

Silent Scope Complete seems to be hard to find, not just at Toys R Us but at all stores. It took me 2 months to find a new copy at a B&M store (at FYE of all places, for $29.99)
I don't know how many will see this, but my TRU has plenty of the following games if anyone is interested:

R-Type Final
Gradius V
Street Fighter AC (PS2...maybe Xbox)
Galleon
Mario Golf (GBA)
Amplitude
Nam '67 (PS2 and Xbox)
Breakdown
Second Sight
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission

which TRU in Chicago did you find all that stuff?

Went searching for La Pucelle/Siren/Shadow Hearts but no luck

Did pick up R-type, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, and Ghost Hunter though....they are up for trade hopefully for one i really wanted. Let me know.

I hit three TRUs yesterday after work (Arlington Heights, Niles, and Chicago/WesternAve) and saw some of what he saw. I was looking for a copy of SMT:N green-tagged but SOL'd. I even had the customer service guy check the inventory computer for Chicagoland and he showed that the Niles store had 9 in stock, but of course upon calling for confirmation, they couldn't find any. Going there myself and looking turned up jack as well. Grrr.
Everyone is asking for Shin Megami Tensei Nocture, is this game good or rare?
Both.
is La Purcelle Tactics rare? i've seen it at my TRU
No.

you can still get ~$60 for it. If there's any time to buy and resell, it's now.
The beauty of the 70% off date is its 44 days from yesterday. Meaning anything bought at 50% can be returned and rebought if there are any copies left (as far as I know, electronics have a 45 day return policy).
Can anyone confirm the 45 day return policy? Or "goes on sale within 45 days"?
Can anyone confirm the 45 day return policy? Or "goes on sale within 45 days"?
Yeah, you have 45 days to return. If you want price adjustments though, it's only 14 days. Thus, if you are gonna hold out for 70% off you are better off waiting or make sure you keep it sealed and just return and rebuy.
Is there an actual link for this info? Or was this just word of mouth.
Word of mouth, but there are multiple people who emailed Atlus customer service about it and they posted their responses. You can trek through the thread to find them if you really wanted.

Yes, I looked. Now I don't have to go to gamestop and pick up the used copy for $39.99 that's been sitting there for over a month.. I can wait for a sealed copy.

WTF? So i have to bring the game back to get the adjustment...do they act stupid and say it has to go back on shelve first too?

From the TRUs I've done this at, no. They just run the return, then allow you to purchase the same game(s) again, but at the lower price. I've thought about trying to do it one more time after that (to 90% off), but I don't think they'd go for it.

I just looked through that thread and I saw a post where Atlus was quoted as saying Nocturne will NOT get a reprint. Besides, I want the game to play it, not hoard/resell it. I am heading to another Chicago store after work today to pick up a used copy for about $45.

edit: okay, read more of that thread. I'm getting the impression that people think a reprint will bring the price of Nocturne into the range that Phantom Brave is now at (15-20 bucks). Maybe a wait and see would be a better idea. Ugh.

i was able to get nightmare of druaga, final fantasy tactics (gh, last one), alias, bloodrayne (last one), katamari damacy (last one), and trivial pursuit (last one) from the TRU in brea, CA. they still had a grip of games, but they were still overpriced... even at 50% off  for example, they probably had about 20 FF:CC at $25 apiece, syphon filter:eek:mega strain at $15 apiece, etc. that is basically what they had left.

I don't understand why TRU would allow people to return items for a price adjustment (unless it was purchased a couple of days prior). It is a clearance sale and the whole point is to get rid of inventory to the first customer who is willing to pay that price.

If you can manage to do it though, why not :)

Nocturne is getting reprinted, along with Disgaea and a few others. I've seen the notice that Game Crazy got. As for the price, that is yet to be known.

FF:CC won't be too bad at 70%, it'll certainly stick around till then, maybe even 90%. But in a month or more it might drop elsewhere to that level.

Why would I have to pychically bring back all the games if the recieot has the sku's???? Why cant they just do a price adjustment...I'm totally gonna get them to...i'll even do the cry baby i wanna talk to the manager shizzle...i buy 1000's of dollars worth of stuff there all the time every year

Well, like I said, sunshine, I'm looking for a copy to play; sealed or not makes no difference to me. Even if the price doesn't go down significantly, the fact that there will be more copies circulating means it's less likely that to get one I'll have to head to eBay and get gouged. It's all about avoiding the worst case scenario.

I picked up one to play and one to keep. Even if Nocturne is reprinted, do you think it will be the limited edition with the soundtrack? Collectors always place a premium on a limited edition, especially if it's a RPG, and even more so if said RPG got great reviews.

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

I went today to get the difference from buying Nocturne for $34.99 since it's now $24.99 and they said I only had 15 days. I said, ok, then I wanna return it and re-buy it. She rolled her eyes and did it for me.

Went to the Burbank,ca TRU and got:
Galleon XB (last copy)
Nightmare Druaga PS2

Nothing else was good but they did have a few full spectrum penny guides and ddr, lego and MGS3 demos for free w/purchase. I was hoping to find MM:collection and street fighter anniv. but still no luck:cry: . Going to try one more and thats it.

I just got back from TRU and bought Twisted Metal: Black. However, the lady behind the register asked for my license. I'm thinking, no worries because i'm 17 and "M" rated games are 17+.

Anyways, she looks at my birthday and actually starts counting year by year to see if i was 18. I stood there for a minute listening to her count and then she tells me, "Sorry, but i can't sell this until your birthday." WOW. Beyond the fact that she could sell me it, my license has lines where it says Under 18 until... and Under 21 until... which would have saved me time from watching her count her fingers....

I was calm and had my brother show her his ID. He's two years older but she does the same thing! She actually starts to count the years until 18... At least i can see why this 40ish year old woman is working at TRU.
