Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

Here's the list, prices are before discount(NOW COMPLETE!):

**** = EXTREME YMMV - only offered online, only way you'll find it in a store is if someone returned it from online.

I was in Manchester Connecticut a couple days ago and they had a much better selection than my home store. They even had cards taped below each green tag game to show the discount. It made bargain hunting very easy. I picked up Metroid Zero Mission and Baten Kaitos w/ soundtrack.

Yes, it was. I was very happy to take it for $14.97
sweet. that is the closest one to me. When I went, they had nothing. Probably because I went the first day that 50% appeared.
Let me know if you have any luck. Looks like I'm going to be stuck here late so I may never make it out that way this week.
It's not rare as in you'll never find it again, but it is fetching $60+ on eBay and alot of CAGs want to snatch it for that price to play it themselves.
and you better sell them now cause i think there is a reprint coming in Late sept.

Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga is barely uncommon. You can buy it at almost any retailer online. Shin Megami Tensai Nocturne however is harder to find. TRU has been one of the few retailers to find it new and for a great price ($25). Actually, if you look at ebay completed auctions you'll see it's been going for around $45 new sealed.

I would shoot for $25 direct from TRU, but if you can snag it for $45 on ebay, that is not terrible either. My guess is that when reprinted it will be $50 for a few months (total guess), so there is not much advantage to waiting for the reprint unless you will also wait for a price drop.

Who knows how big the reprint will be? It might only be a few thousand or even under that. Has there been any confirmation at all to the amount?

It's a great time to be a cheap ass gamer.

who knows if the reprint will be with the soundtrack and the case for both parts for that matter

Does anywone know if/when TRU is expected to replenish stock? I have been to 3 different TRU's and have picked up many titles, but three elude me...I will find them!!!

anyone know why Baten Kaitos isn't registering for the Green Tag event at my TRUs? it's got the soundtrack and everything, but still ringing up as $30.

Yeah. The version without the soundtrack is tagged.

Anyone find a Street Fighter Anniversary for PS2 in the Central Florida area?

At this point, I might be willing to ask someone to pick one up and ship to me for a modest finder's fee.
well that sucks. i've missed every single deal on BK
Well, you can still pick it up for $30 with soundtrack CD at TRU or $20 without it just about anywhere else. Either way, you're paying a fair price considering how many hours of gameplay you get for your money.
Sword of Mana was boring. i'm curious, if i thought SoW sucked so much, are Legend and Secret even worth tracking down?
Secret of Mana for the Super NES just plain ROCKS!!!

Wow... personally, I've never played Sword of Mana, but the Secret of Mana releases (1,2,3) are a few of my all-time favorite SNES games.

That's one of my favorite rpgs ever! Its also one of the few rpg games that you can play 2 players with.

I'm not too far into it, but I think Sword of Mana is pretty good so far. I am probably only 4-5 hours in though and haven't played it in a loooong time (haven't been traveling much).

Secret of Mana is almost, ALMOST, as good as Final Fantasy III on the SNES (American). Man, those games were so much fun with AMAZING stories in each. Kefka rules all!

it's just the story line is so unoriginal, i mean, the guy's name is Dark Lord without a 'the'. what the hell is that. the action is unengaging, and the only part i thought they did an alright job on was the RPG portion. and even then, you have to switch your weapon or your magic every thirty seconds it seems.

The three player was the best!

Isn't a reprint of "Secret of Mana" coming out for either the GBA or the DS? Seems like I heard or read about this somewhere.

The new game in the series, World of Mana, is being released for DS

No, you are right Sword of Mana is rather boring. Yes, track down the other Mana titles, as they are vastly superior games in every respect. Sword was a weak excuse for a Mana title.

Man, I was thinking of getting Sword of Mana later at my TRU, but after reading all of the negative comments about it here, I think I'll pass...

I picked up Druaga today for 10.00 after the 50% off.
I didn't see it on the list and I haven't look through the whole thread so I figured I'd mention it.

Edit - I picked it up because the name resonated with me as something positive =\
Apparantly it's pretty much trade-in fodder o-o
Sorry to ask but, would it be a good idea to trade it in at Gamerush?
is TRU really going 75% off this sunday?
75% is late September sometime, if I recall. What's this at, 47 pages now? I can't even find the dates in here anymore. I do remember this, though:

expect 50% off for about as long as the 30% off lasted, which felt WAY too long, considering no one wants 20 copies of Driv3r for more than $1. (read: ALL 20 copies for $1...I need some new cases for my old Jampacks.

And in case anyone here makes the mistake of being tempted by Driv3r, in the words of Napoleon Dynamite: "It's probably the worst video ever made". But I'm sure everyone here already knows that.

$15.75(?) at GR.

Kerig, I guess game selection is sparse in those parts if you think DRIV3R is "probably the worst video ever made". Here are just a few that deserve the title of "Worse Game":

ET: The Extra Terrestrial (Atari 2600 - 1982)
Zelda: Wand of Gamelon (CDI - 1993)
Pit Fighter (SNES - 1991)
Britney's dance beat (PS2 - 2002)
Drake And The 99 Dragons (Xbox - 2003)
Charlie's Angels (Gamecube - 2003)

Believe me DRIV3R is nowhere near these games when it comes to poor quality all around.

Don't forget Aquaman

It's worth the $10, though. Great cut/still-scenes have been included in this version.
britney's dance beat wasn't half bad. just because it's associated with Spears is no reason to bash it
I agree. Britney's Dance Beat is a decent take on the dance genre. Its only real weak point is the limited number of tunes (five total I think) you have to work with.

you should be ashamed that Superman 64 made it nowhere on that list

The Southfield, MI TRU got replenished since Wednesday of last week. this afternoon there were a few copies of Katamari Damacy there if anyone is looking for it. Didn't see anything else of note.

The CAGs have spoken. My Driv3r nomination was intended for PS2 "WGEver" (not including no-name budget games), not really spanning the whole gambit of systems. That just wouldn't be fair once you get the Sega Super-Drive into the runnings.

Britney's DB was a similar game to Space Channel 5, right? I'm sure it's target audience enjoyed it.

Driv3r was so bad, (how bad was it?)...I rented it when I had unlimited Blockbuster Game Rentals, and I felt ripped off for the 5 minute drive I had to do to exchange it for a different game. It was close to midnight, so I would have been REALLY pissed if I was stuck with it for the night.

Back on Topic: I picked up Second Sight yesterday for $5 (it was marked $20, but rang up the correct $10 b/f GreenTag adjustment)

Now all I need is Ghosthunter and I'm done with the Greentag sale until 75%.

P.S. TRU Employee dude, if you're reading this, you found the CAG thread in question, enjoy!

you sold us out??!!!! j.k. ;-)

Can't wait for 75%.

Again to bring up Baten Kaitos. This particular one is definitely YMMV because I have been to 3 TRUs and all of them have not been green tagged (both versions, I have had them scanned).
