Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
Has 70% off hit stores yet?
Nope, were not likely to see that till after the B2G1Free sale... maybe even later depending on how the GT games are selling.

Yep, 70% is still unknown at this point. All our system news states is the dates for the original 30% and 50%. It states that anything beyond will be determined on sales numbers and such.

One odd thing i noticed is when I take a GT item to the price checker, it says "Sale Ends 12/31/05." This could mean somehting, or could be meaningless due to an outdated system. I'm not drawing any conclusions as of right now.

is the TRU green tag is universal? or YMMV? some of the games mentioned are on the shelf and doesn't have any special sign on it, except showing $49.99, if i bring it to the register would it ring up as discount prices? thanx

GT prices are universal. Some stores just have lazy employees who don't mark anything. Your best bet is to have an employee check the price for you. The thing with GT prices is they ring up full price and then are discounted when the transaction is totaled.

cool.. thanx.. will see if I wanna grab more DTRII, kinda long drive.. but will see... what else is being trade for good credit at Gamerush from TRU?

No, seeing as 70% off hasn't happened yet, nor do we know when it will. Do newbies even read ANYTHING before they post?
I don't know if this has been posted but has Red Dead Revolver(Xbox) hit 70% off yet?

Thanks.
NO. NO-NO-NO-NO-NO!

When (If?) 70% hits, it will be across the board. EVERYThING green tagged will be 70% off!

BTW - I picked up RDR at %50. It's a decent game for just $10. I had beaten it on a rental last year, but I still found it to be fun the second time around.

70% isn't coming for anything. All the inventory is being bought out at 50%, so there will be no reason for 70%. If you want something, get it now, otherwise someone else will....and that leads to no 70% or 90%. This is why I've avoided the GT sale for the most part....nothing I really want at 50%, so just forget about it.

Xenosaga 2 and Dead to Rights 2 dropped to $20 green tag today, so $10 is your final price. I picked up Xenosaga 2 today, as well as a few copies of Dead to Rights 2 for trade in purposes.

I did leave 2 or 3 copies at the Saint Petersburg TRU for other CAG's, though. They also had one copy of Metal Slug 3 left, lots of Xenosaga 2's, as well as most of the 49.99 Gamecube green tag games.

Are all of the Call of Duty's green tagged, or is it just PS2? I'm really wanting to pick up the Xbox version, and I could've swore that it scanned for 9.99 Monday... but now it's coming up $19.99.

why not wait 'til sunday? B2G1 Free... (unless u guys plan to return/rebuy)... but i think they'll have enough copies to last 'til Sunday of D2R2 IMO...

TRON 2 is $10 after 50% off so no more $5 off
DOOM 3, DOOM 3 CE, Prince of Persia 2 NOT GT (checked) :bomb:
I DO NOT think other good games (Madagascar, Fantastic Four, etc...) are GT....:booty:

So far only Xenosaga 2 and Dead to Right 2 both are at $19.99 GT :applause:

Well I just went to see how many were left at the TRU nearest me and low and behold someone bought all six copies that were there right before I got there. Following that I drove to another store to find out someone had called ahead and reserved the 3 copies they had left and were picking them up shortly after I arrived there...

I ended up hitting 2 more TRU with no luck and finally calling one last one but they were out as well.

It pretty much looks like all of Cincinnati was hit in a few short hours after people got done with work and school. :(

It all depends if you have any Gamerush's in your area or not... if you do have some GR's, expect all the copies of D2R2 to be gone very quickly, since it trades in there for an absurd amount of credit ($27).

Yeah I picked up 2 D2R2 for the xbox tonight. Preordered a game and ended up with $21 on a gift card. I forgot to check to see if death by degrees was marked down today to $19.99. I remember a posting earlier in the week saying it would drop as well. Does anyone know if it still gets $19 at GR?

I expected them to go fast since there are 10-14 GR around Cinci, what I didnt expect is that 3-4 people would buy them all up in a half a day. :|
x_fiddle, I live in Cincinnati and would like to thank you for saving me a trip to TRU.
I didnt make it to the one in Florence... didn't call either so might be worth it to check. Eastgate is the store I called and they said they didn't see any so it might be feasible to actually go there in case the employees had bad eyesight. Its kind of a pain in the ass and a long drive for me so thats why I didn't check it in person
So is Xenosaga II 10 bucks after GT? If so, I think I'll pick it up.
Yes they are and even better if you wait until this Sunday for B2G1F ;)

Only if you can find 2 other $10 games...unless you are talking about buying multiple copies of the same game, or exploiting a glitch (if it is still going)...neither of which I would consider "better."

Anyway, I got xenosaga 2 today....thanks to whoever found it (Roufuss?). Also very happy to find some games I want to get in the B2G1...

Cold Fear for Xbox is also now green tagged. Picked this up for 24.99 to possibly use for next weeks sale if I can find another decent green tagged title for 49.99.

i went to the TRU in Chandler, AZ (I-10 and Ray) and they had lots of copies of Xenosaga and D2R2---but saying they were 29.99 and 39.99 respectively...then when i asked to ring em for a price check...they said "nah we cant unless we put through a sale..."

i mustve done something wrong :( ?

You should have just said ok, and got the ones you wanted, and if they were indeed those 29.99 and 39.99 prices, just said Oh nevermind and left. They can't make you buy anything - and you for sure get to see how much it really costs before paying anything.

Benboxer actually had it in his weekly TRU price drops thread... I figured more people read this thread then that one (since it's long buried now) and I was the first to confirm the prices were actually true.

If you know the UPC number you can generate a barcode that you can use to check the price on one of the price checkers in the aisles. Instructions on how to do this are at the top of the Target Clearence thread:

Anyone with a Rhino:

Does anyone know if Dead to rights 2 and xenosaga 2 can be used for the 2 for 1 deal.
I would love to get a $50 game for $20.

I'm pretty certain Xenosaga 2 doesn't qualify, since I think they sell that for $20 new (the general rule of thumb being if it sells used @ Rhino for $24.99, it qualifies). I was wondering about DTR2 myself tho...anyone have an answer on that one? I'll call this afternoon & find out if no one else knows.

Glitch is still in full force. Picked up some D2R2 and Xenosaga II for GR trade-ins (they had plenty of each), a few other greenies for gifts, and then got some normal $20 games for free. This was *really* easy to do at the TRU I went to this time because they have the tickets - you just hand them the tickets in the order you want. There's no mixing up the games as they take them out of the cases. The only downside is that they didn't actually have one of the games I wanted so I had to change it for something else.

I didn't get anything spectacular as there are very few $20 games I want and don't already have :D. I picked up Robots for GC (as opposed to PS2 since the kids like playing on the GC more). Also got the GC Alien Hominid (now to figure out what to do with the PS2 version I got with the glitch last time!) and tried to get Spongebob Movie game, but that was the one they were out of so switched it to Sonic DX. There were absolutely no > $19.99 games I wanted to use the Buy2Get1 deal on since I've been spoiled getting all my new games at GR for $29.99 anyway - paying $33.33 in cash for each game seems like a ripoff :D.

The best thing was that I found a Darth Vader costume for my son - everywhere else has been sold out of them for a while, but this TRU had a few left. 25% off to boot...

Wait...if the glitch still applies...Then maybe I could get Ratchet: Deadlocked, and Jak X. Yippie! Wait...Nvm. I guess your talking about the b2g1 under $20. Oh well...I guess I could still pick up Kingdom Hearts, and two gt. There aren't that many games at my TRU left that I want...Everybody jumped on them at the 50% drop.

BTW, for the glitch to work, all games need to be the same price, or 2 be higher than the other one right? For example, if I wanted to get Kingdom Hearts(19.99) for free, I would need for the cashier to ring that up last with 2 other 19.99 games. Or one other 19.99 game, and something lower. Just making sure I have this correct, I don't want to have to mess up when I get there.

All right, someone explain this to me like I'm a two year old.

D2R2 and Xenosaga 2 are both $50 but green tagged down to $10? So if you get those two aand anotrher $50 game you get that $50 game for free?

So I could get Xenosaga 2, D2R2, and Xmen Legends 2 for $20?

D2RD and Xenosaga are $20 regularly, then green tagged down to $10. The computer takes into account the list, non-green tag price first and gives you either the lowest (list) priced game or if they're all the same list price, the last game scanned.

After it decides which game to give you for free, the computer tallies the discounts and takes half off of the green tag games.

I don't think so...they might be marked at $50 (they were marked $20 at my local TRU), but the reason they are $10 is because the regular price dropped to $20 (and they ring up just like a normal $20 GT game)...

Cashier name Justin (white head guy) and Fat Woman of TRU in Tustin, CA know about the glitch and I heard their discussion with the manager about the glitch. And also the white head guy is well known to most of the GT game so he does scans the non-GT game first during check out. FYI

yes, but I'm pretty sure musashi is also green tagged from $20 down to $10, so it would work anyways. A better choice might be a newer greatest/platinum hits/player's choice title. another thing to note is that some games are $19.99 and others are $19.95, so you have to take that into account, although I've found TRU's shelf prices might not be accurate for those(for example, the shelf tag says jak 3(or another GH game, I forget) is $19.99 while it actually was $19.95). that shouldn't be a big problem though, just something to keep in mind.
