TV Water Cooler

while i somewhat enjoy jericho, i was suprised at how quickly they got the greenlight for a full season. There numbers weren't that great at the time they were greenlit for the full season. Most shows aren't renewed this early. It is usually occurs after the febuary sweeps up untill late march. Some shows won't get it untill april, but the majority are done by then.

I've made a note to watch Trading Spouses tomorrow night (9PM, FOX), only because the "God Warrior" lady is back. (don't know what I'm talking about? search it on YouTube)/
I'll never watch broadcast tv again. If they ever cancel Heroes, or My Name Is Earl.

The funny thing is that says through spring 2008. Spring 08 is when most of those shows will start airing again after the holiday 07 hiatus. Smart move NBC smart move.
Coincidentally, the Olympics are coming up in Summer '08 as well.

i don't know what scrubs numbers were in the past, but they aren't that great right now. last night it was at 6.57million. What is worse is that the lead in of the office was at 9.29million. Looks like a lot of people watched the earl/office combo and then switched to greys anatomy or csi.

smallvillie had a nice bump by about 2million viewers from what they usually pull in last night. Most likely due to the justice league show.

That may be the highest rated Smallville of the season, especially considering Ollie won't be around near as much. And from what I'm seeing the episode in 2 weeks may be the first time that
Lois and Clark really kiss

actually it was the highest of the season...there is a cw exec event today, and they said

• Dawn's making some opening remarks. She noted that Smallville scored its best ratings of the season with last night's "Justice" episode

I would imagine if it was the highest rated episode they would have said something.

other cw tidbits

Supernatural is holding up "really well" in a tough time slot, and creatively the show is "at its best."

• Got in a follow-up about the likelihood of a fourth season of Veronica Mars. She loves the show and points out that it's having its highest-rated season yet. But no decision has been made.

Veronica Mars will go on hiatus for eight weeks beginning Mar. 6 to make way for the Pussycat Dolls reality show. Mars will return with five stand-alone eps in April.

• Dawn confirms that the idea of picking up The O.C. "did come up," but adds that it's not going to happen.

Has anything about Dexters second season come out? I'm sure there will be one, but I haven't heard about it yet.

I know that's what I did, switched over from The Office to watch Grey's. I hope NBC recognizes that a similar slaughtering is going to happen to their new hot show on Mondays when Heroes goes up against 24. I mean do they really think its going to have the same kind of numbers when 24 starts up again? Bump it to 9 pm for god's sake NBC, do us all a favor so you don't have to cancel Heroes.

yeah it will be interesting to see how 24 and hero's match up. It isn't like they will be drawing from 2 1/2 men or supernanny's audience. Both are on at 9pm....8pm has prisonbreak which has gotten a fairly large loyal audience this season. They could try switching nights, but then they will have to deal with Americain Idol.

If you look at my post again, I did say highest of the season. My guess is the highest for the show was probably episode 100, with Johnathon Kent's death. Or one of the ones at the end of last season.

And as for 24 vs Heroes, looks at Lost vs Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds took over the 9 pm hour on Wednesday. Not saying Heroes will pass or compete well with 24, but I don't think it will fall dead in the water either. Though a move to 8 during the spring season would be wise. As I think it could compete better with Prison Break.

No harm no foul. I do that from time to time as well. Though, if you were a Yankee fan, I think I'd make a bigger deal.

Just saw an episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit on Google Videos, and MAN this show is awesome. I love how they show how dumb some of these radical left wing environmentalist nuts are. Awesome show!

Agreed. Some are better than others, but when they get a good topic, man they can go off on quite a tear. Eagerly waiting for their next season I am. :D

anyone watch the dresden files....I thought it was ok...it was a little slow, and the lead character needs to be developed more, but it was the first episode and usually they aren't the greatest.

I have it on my DVR and plan to watch at some point before 8 this evening or after 10. I'll give my impressions later.

I'm going to when I get a free hour, the premise looks promising. :bouncy:

Heros was somewhat disappointing. I wish that they would quit asking so many questions and answer some. At least a couple from the first part of this season.

looks like one actress got onto 2 great shows. The wife of nathan on heroes is the same lady as the one that is the wife of jack bauers brother on 24

well i guess it is good that heroes won the demographic that everyone is after. It appears that hero's lost in overall ratings according to the overnights...the fast nationals weren't in yet. Heroes came in third, behind fox and 2 1/2 men.

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS opened the week on a winning note in the overnights, but I will remind everyone that the true test will come once the fast nationals are posted. Since we are all wondering how the battle of NBC's Heroes vs. Fox's 24 played out, let's begin with the 9 p.m. hour. Fox's 24 took the time period overall in the overnights, with a 9.9 rating/14 share, building from lead-in Prison Break (#2, 6.6/10 at 8 p.m.) by a hefty 50 percent. The first original episode of NBC's competing Heroes in six weeks ranked third in the overnights with a 9.2/13 -- 10 percent below older skewing lead-in Deal or No Deal (#1: 10.2/15 at 8 p.m.).

To whet your appetite for the fast nationals, here are two things to keep in mind once the results are released.

1. The two-hour edition of 24 on the week-ago Monday averaged a 5.9 rating/14 share among adults 18-49.
2. Season-to-date, Heroes is averaging a 6.4/15 in the demo.

In other words, it could be a race to the finish line among adults 18-49.

Despite the severity of the competition, CBS' Two and a Half Men won the 9 p.m. half-hour with a 10.2/14 (but is expected to finish third among adults 18-49 once the fast nationals are posted). That led into a typical (and third-place) 8.4/12 for The New Adventures of Old Christine at 9:30 p.m.

Either way, Heroes was impressive against 24, instead of just getting beaten senseless.

Ahh, being a part of the key demo and watching, well DVRing, both shows, way to beat the system,

yeah i dvr'd both as well...haven't gotten around to hereos yet

some dirt news ....not sure if i had mentioned earlier about jenifer aniston appearing on the show at the end of its run but

Call them Friends with benefits. You already know that when Jennifer Aniston guests on the March 27 season finale of Courteney Cox's FX drama Dirt, she'll be playing her bosom buddy's archenemy, a rival tabloid editor. But what I've learned — muahaha, exclusively! — is that Aniston's character is a lesbian. What's more, she won't just mouth off to Cox's tightly wound counterpart, she's going to share a liplock with her. An FX rep declined to comment, but Joey Tribbiani had this to say: "Yeah, baby!"

Umm wow, I thought Heroes was gonna get slaughtered by 24... Now Fox is the one with the dilema. Why 24 moved from Tuesdays a couple seasons ago is beyond me but oh well...

I wouldn't say fox has a dilema, they lost in the key demographics, but they won easily beat heroes in total viewers. Comparing the overnights for 24 to a week ago, it is roughly the same numbers as last weeks. I would imagine when the numbers come out, that 24 would have had roughly 15 mill, and heroes between 12 and 14 mill viewers. The other thing is that heroes numbers in the overnight took a dip from the avg it was getting in the fall, while 24 didn't dip much at all compared to the episode the week earlier. As far at the key demo #'s 24 got 5.5 compared to the previous weeks 5.9. Heroes avg in the fall was 6.4 and went up to 6.5. IMO, it really doesn't look like either were effected dramatically. It looks like 24 won the viewership getting roughly the same as the premiere and hereos won the demographic battle getting a tad better then the fall season avg. It looks like the void of monday night football is what is filling both of these shows viewership.

Oh, I must have misread it cause I got the impression that 24's numbers did dip from last week. So apparently it would seem that there isn't any overlap in viewers between the 2. I'm really surprised about that.

well the key demo of 18 - 49 dipped by about 20% from last week for 24. But the total viewers are right around the same as last weeks. Last weeks 24 they had the numbers broken down by the 1/2 hour...and the first hour last week was lower then this weeks show in total viewers by a small amount. The 2nd hour last week was a little bit higher then this weeks, so in the end it was roughly the same.

I can't wait for Penn & Teller: Bullshit to come back. Looks like it will be a few more months, like around April when it comes back. Though I do wonder why they cut back the order from 13 originally to 10. Maybe running out of ideas? I still think they need to one on entertainment piracy and one on videogame violence. The videogame violence one seems pretty likely, what with Jack Thompson out there making an ass of himself. I would be let down if it wasn't in the next batch.

No suprises here.

from jsonline.com

DISARMED AND AXED: CBS' "Armed and Famous" has been pulled off the network's schedule after a few low-rated airings. It'll be replaced by reruns until "Jericho" returns to the 7 p.m. Wednesday lineup on Valentine's Day. There's no word if the unaired episodes will ever see the light of day.
Meanwhile, The CW says that the series finale of its "Reba" McEntire sitcom will air Feb. 18.

Did anyone catch the Louis C.K. Shameless HBO special last week? Holy crap that was funny. Set your DVRs to record it if they replay it.

I did and I concur javy, good stuff. If his series was even half as funny, he might have gotten a 2nd season. It's shouldn't be a problem to catch since it reairs pretty regularly and I think it's also available On Demand if your cable has that option.

Edit: Yep, its On Demand

I thought the jokes in his show were pretty funny it's just that the "acting" might have seriously been the worst ever in the history of TV. In the beginning I couldn't decide if I liked it but I kept watching and I kept laughing so I stuck with it. I am going to miss it next year.

I really like Heroes, but sometimes I feel like they are trying to do too much in Season 1. Alot of the episodes have been outstanding but there's some where at the end I feel as though they just used the episode to introduce an extra character or mysterious question that we really don't need on top of all the others. I'll still watch the hell out of it, but that was just a random thought.

Also what's been the big suprisingly good show for everybody this season? You know the show you thought would kinda suck but you gave it a chance anyhow and it actually turned out pretty well. I think thus far mine's been Friday Night Lights. Being based on movie/book, I originally thought it would be total ass, but the perfromances are strong and even though it's circular at times I feel like I'm interested in what happens to most of the characters.

friday night lights has been excellent...for new shows, I have enjoyed brothers and sisters...the written dialog and the way it is acted out has been excellent

looks like both 24 and heroes had a small drop in total viewers

At 9 p.m., Fox's 24 ranked first in the overnights with a 9.5/14 -- six percent above NBC's Heroes (9.0/13).

This is to compare it to last week numbers...showing how 24 had the total viewers and heroes had the 18-49 year old demographics

One week earlier, a 9.9/14 in the overnights for 24 and a 9.2/13 for Heroes translated nationally as follows:
Monday, Jan. 22, 2007
Heroes (NBC) - Viewers: 14.90 million, A18-49: 6.6/15
24 (Fox) - Viewers: 14.47 million, A18-49: 5.4/12

Worst. House. Ever.

I guess replacing the tried and true formula for a House episode with "originality" wasn't such a good idea after all.

I'm disappointed so many disliked yesterday's House. I thought it was interesting and something different. Now we know why Tv shows never try anything different, because all people do is complain we they do it.

the reason I watch house is the funny banter he has with his boss, friend and subordinates....yesterdays house tried to be a big time drama and failed to deliver. Every time the female spoke it was a snoozefest, with bad acting and horrible writting. It could have been a decent show if they had written decent lines.

Yeah I only watched it out of the side of my eye while I did more important things. Pretty bad episode as far as House episodes go. They can do different types of episodes, I really liked the one a while back where House woke up that comatose guy, and went on the road. That was pretty different from the norm, and still very good, I thought.

"Last nights House sucked!"

I'm rew-watching The Shield, starting with Season 2, and damn had I forgotten how awesome that show is. There's 2 or 3 different storylines going on through every episode, and they are all equally interesting and riveting. You never think to yourself "I don't care about Dutch's case, just get back to what Vic's doing."
