TV Water Cooler
it won't be getting more scripts, on tvguide podcast last week, they talked about the writters/producers trying to finish 2 story arcs in the alloted episodes.
Shit. Another good show that people aren't watching.

Edit: looks like they are getting 20 episodes this season but a 4th seems unlikely. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/tv/292811_tf220.html. 22 is a normal order for this show so it will be 2 short.

Well that didn't take long.

Changed the thread name since we're moving away from the new shows since most of their fates are already known. Scrubs tonight! It's the only show that always manages to make me laugh out loud, like an idiot, which is hard to do. I want a new Cox rant! Eeek!

But yeah, NBC ought to do well with all that comedy. That's must see TV for me!

^^ The Office is that show for me.

Wow. Never gave that one a shot myself. (And I'm guessing a lot of people followed suit!)

I now have 4 Jerichos piled up on the DVR. It was 5 until I watched one of them today. I guess that show just hasn't kept me drawn in.

scrubs had a tough night

NBC's veteran Scrubs returned with a lackluster (and distant third-place) 5.1/ 7 in the overnights -- 14 percent below lead-in The Office. That led into the relocated 30 Rock at a mere 4.2/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. -- 18 percent below Scrubs. Although the true test will come when the demos are released, year-ago occupant The Apprentice scored an 8.7/13 in the overnights in the Thursday 9-10 p.m. hour. And these results for Scrubs and 30 Rock are considerably below former occupant Deal or No Deal.

sweeps info

ABC and CBS finished the November 2006 sweeps in winning fashion, while NBC was the only Big 3 network on the year-to-year plus side. CBS was the most-watched network for the sixth consecutive November and No. 1 among adults 25-54 for the fourth straight November. CBS' victory was particularly impressive considering that 97 percent of its line-up was comprised of regularly scheduled programming -- the most by any network in a sweep period in at least 13 years. ABC finished first among adults 18-49 (without Monday Night Football in the mix), with its first outright November sweep victory in seven years. The alphabet net was also No.1 among adults 18-34, with a 3.3 rating/10 share in the demo.

Despite winning November, both ABC and CBS posted losses from November 2005, with erosion for CBS more significant at 10 percent in total viewers and 14 percent among adults 18-49.

Led by Sunday Night Football and breakout hit Heroes, NBC was on the plus side, building from one year earlier by 10 percent in total viewers and 15 percent among adults 18-49. Comparatively, NBC also narrowed the gap, trailing ABC by only-three tenths of a rating point among adults 18-49 (versus a deficit of 1.1 rating points in November 2005). Excluding the Olympics, NBC's rise in the demo was the network's biggest increase in a major sweep month since May 1995.

American Idol-less Fox finished an uneventful fourth in November in total viewers and adults 18-49, with losses of 5 percent and 6 percent, respectively. Rounding off the list was the CW in its first sweeps period at levels close to the now defunct UPN and the WB in November 2005.

24 scoop about new character

Rick Schroder Heads to 24:
Former NYPD Blue star Rick Schroder is the latest actor to join the growing ensemble cast of Fox's 24, which returns for season No. six on Sunday, Jan. 14 with a two-hour installment beginning at 8 p.m. Schroder will play a forceful CTU operative who teams up with Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) to execute crucial field operations.

friday night lights got its ass handed to them last night...they were behind 2 repeats and the xmass show.

Lost is changing times when it returns to 10pm on wend. It is being done to avoid the americain idol onslaught, but I wonder if the 2 new comedy shows they throw in at 9pm will get an audience to remeber lost is on at 10pm

I loved the last episode of the OC. I think I nearly had a meltdown that they used a Butch Walker song in it. Which was both good and bad. Good, because it was unexpected and made me smile because I'd probably have used it to. And bad, because now the next time I go to one of his shows... it may just be populated with more teeny bopper girls than I'd like.

Still... the episode was really really good, even without the song. They've really managed to keep the show interesting.

Did anyone else like the combo of the song and the ending of Smallville? I thought it was a nice choice as Lex walked down the row of Meteor Freaks he's collected.

I'll tell you when I watch it. I've been trying to catch up, and I've got about 6 to go. ;)

WTF? The general public is so freaking stupid. Scrubs is one of the funniest shows on TV (and 30 Rock is pretty good too if you give it a chance). What are people watching? Don't they have DVRs?

dvr attachment rate is about 7% iirc, it was really low. Like it or not, thurs night at 9pm is a busy hour....the oc and supernatural are both decent shows, greys anatomy is huge, and csi has a large following. Putting scrubs in 3/4 of the way thru the fall schedule in a very difficult hour would make it tough for any show to survive. There has been talk about the oc getting cut, as there numbers are bad. It has been there best season since season 1, but no one is watching it.

the smallville ending was great with the hands reaching out to him.

Has anyone heard anything interesting about the Lost Room? Seems like it will be a very Stephen King-ish miniseries from the commercials, but I'm hoping it'll be more sci-fi mystery than sci-fi scary. I'm going to record tomorrow night nonetheless, it looks pretty interesting.

I will be watching it too. Honestly I think they should order more miniseries, instead of brand new shows that only last a few episodes. This way, everything can be wrapped up very easily during the amount of episodes they're making. Then, if the general public really enjoys it, find a way to turn it into a regular thing, like the 4400 did.

But yes, it looks like a good show. And I can't say no to Casey McCall, not now, not never. :bouncy:
how was the lost room? i forgot to dvr it.
I liked pt One alot. It'll be a trip to see where it goes from where it left off too. I had a couple quibbles originally, but after the first 30 mins or so it picked up and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

You can tune in tonight at 7pm eastern too if you want to catch the first part. It's being replayed before part 2 starts at 9pm.

It's very interesting. I don't know how they're going to finish it, but it could quite easily be turned into a series, and probably should have.

'Day Break' Sees Light of Day On Internet
10s.jpg
Fans of ABC's Day Break -- few as they turned out to be -- will at least be able to follow the storyline through to its conclusion, when the network yanks it from its schedule this week and moves the unaired episodes to its website. In fact, ABC said that new episodes will become available online at the same time they would normally have aired -- at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Meanwhile, several publications, citing industry rumors, said that ABC is speeding up production of Lost to get the drama back on the air ASAP. In the meantime, the time period will feature reruns of George Lopez and According to Jim.

Well, I knew it would get cancelled, they knew it'd get cancelled, so they planned around it, and made the show wrap itself up in the short episode order they were given. But then, ABC doesn't even have the patience and/or balls to actually let it air, they'd rather fill it with utter and complete dreck. If I was running a TV station and had to choose between airing new and exciting material, versus reruns of insipid sitcoms. Studio 60 nailed it on the head, they are scared to death to take a chance on anything that might be good.

9 times out of 10: Cancelled Shows = The Best.

the thing I don't understand with networks cancelling shows, is either they will show repeats of a show that is currently airing, or they will try to fill it with another new show. The new show will most likely fail as the tv audience is already tuned into a show at that given time slot come the middle of fall. For example 3lb didn't stand a chance of getting any viewership. Smith actually had gotten better numbers then it, so why bother pulling a show in the middle of the fall, let it at least run to the winter break.

Well it took sci fi at least a year if not longer to make battlestar gallatica a full series after the mini series was shown

I'm trying to think of a new show to start watching. I just caught up on Smallville and then Las Vegas. Don't know what else is out there I haven't seen by now. Any ideas?

Lost room was great right up until the end... it was an unsatisfying conclusion after investing all that time into it but I really have no idea how they would have done it differently. Oh yeah - it screams to be turned into a series. There are so many possibilities...

I still need to watch this, I've had it on my DVR for a while now. Maybe the ending will lead to it being turned into a regular series.

Man, I can't wait until shows get back on their regular schedules, because all of these specials suck. Atleast give me repeats of the show. Still almost a month until Heroes comes back. And another 2 for Jericho.

Kidnapped finished today. GREAT show, great ending. Can't believe it did so badly. It has a pretty decent fanbase. I've enjoyed all 13 eps. as much as Lost, 24, Prison Break, etc. It was left open-ended in case anyone wants to pick it up. Cmon Season 2!!!!!!!

what shows do you currently watch besides studio 60:lol:
what shows do you currently watch besides studio 60:lol:
I think a shorter question is what don't I watch. But let's just say I like action-oriented shows (24, Prison Break), sci-fi type shows (Heroes, Smallville, Buffy), and of course, comedy, as long as it's not in the boring traditional sitcom format (Scrubs, Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl), and those... unique shows like Wonderfalls, Tru Calling, and Dead Like Me. With adult swim-esque cartoons also in there too.

Mostly don't care for those "soap" dramas, except for the OC. Also, anything to do with law, police, and the like... I don't watch any more. Ditto for medical dramas, save for House.

If anyone can actually find me one I end up enjoying, I'll be surprised. Because I've seen pretty much everything out there that I want to see. I was thinking about Gilmore Girls, X-Files, Rescue Me, or Roswell, but I'm not that excited about any of them. :whistle2:#

I think the screaming for a series is why the end is underwhleming. I think my buddy from work put it best the next day when he said somehting to the effect of "I was expecting close to that same ending because you knew it would be fodder to start a series."

Personally though, while somewhat underwhelming for me, the ending wasn't that bad. Forcing Joe to make that choice that was put to him to enable him to end his quest was interesting to say the least. I'm just glad others seemed to like it, everyone I talked to about it either didn't like it or had no idea it was aired. So maybe if enough people watched it will get a series and hopefully remain as it was in mini-series form.

I reccomend the Shield. Michael Chicklis is amazing, and the show isnt your typical cop show. It's probably in my top 3 shows currently on TV behind 24 and Prison Break.
So for those of you that watch Smallville, does anyone know the name of the AFI song that Lex marched off to at the end of the last episode?
That's the first track on Decemberunderground, Prelude 12/21.

Awesome, thanks. I downloaded every song but that. Though I am glad I did, as I found that getting the cd might be worth it.

The shield and rescue me were great....some of the premium channels shows are good hbo has: carnivale, big love, deadwood, rome and showtime has weeds, sleeper cell and a new show I believe called dexter. Battlestar gallatica is a solid series.

Weeds is good, and I saw Dexter and BSG, didn't like them. Also, none of the others look that good.

Only one of those I'm watching is Weeds. The rest, I either watched part of and didn't like, or know I won't like. 8-[

As far as reccomendations go, The Wire and Homicide: Life on the Streets might be the best 2 police dramas out there. Veronica Mars is also pretty entertaining but far fetched in its premise.

For those of us awaiting Season 6 of The Shield, there is a promo thats been on FX and is now on youtube. Don't watch if you havent seen season 5 yet as there is a minor reference to a HUGE event in the season finale.

I always love the teasers for this show. They are always very well done, don't reveal anything, but always make me want the premiere to air. If you watch it closely, it looks like both Vic and Shane fall into the grave, and we already know that Lem is dead. Is Ronnie the only one that will come out of this unscathed? We've got two seasons left. This season will bring the downfall of Shane, who Vic will end up killing to gain vengence for Lem, and the 7th, and final, season will bring death to Vic with the final shot of the show being him getting a lethal injection. In alot of shows like this, I like secondary characters more than the stars, and Lem had always been my favorite, so it hurt to see him go, and I absolutley HATE Shane. He's a great character, but I HATE him with a passion.

The more I think about it, the more I think I like the Shield better than 24.

I guess I'll just bide my time, until things come back, even though it seems like it's gonna be forever without anything to watch. Blah.

It does seems like everything starts back in late January/ early February.

Anyone else love Dogfights on History Channel?

I HIGHLY recommend Veronica Mars. It is a really funny and entertaining show that will keep you guessing until the end of each season. Both DVD sets are $25 right now at Best Buy - when I got them I plowed through them at a rate of 4 episodes a night until I was done. Awesome awesome show (I haven't seen the third season yet though).

The first season was my favorite, the second was so... complex, I nearly gave up. Third is just coasting by thus far. It is a favorite, but it's getting too hard to follow.

Anyone pick up 24 at Best Buy on Christmas eve? I've only seen about 5 episodes of the first season and I've been meaning to get back to it (I got sidetracked by real life in the middle of watching the first season). Anyway, I bought seasons 2-5 for $20 each and now I have something to keep me busy for a very very long time. I think I'm going to start Season 1 over (I can't really remember anything) right after I plow through Battlestar Galactica which my friend is burning for me and I'm picking up over New Year's... so much TV!!!

I got my 24 Season 5 Pricematched to 20 because I bought it for 38 the week it cameout. I just watched it again in a matter of 2-3 days. (Dont judge me...I had just got done with finals and had worked 7 days in a row, so I just crashed...) and loved every second of it just as much as the first time.

I just need to pick up S4, then I'm going to try and plow through it and get caught up to S6, or just DVR S6 and watch it once I get caught up.
I have so much 24 to watch to catch up after buying all of the seasons for $20.
Too bad most people can't stay up for an entire season in one sitting, it's quite an experience. I did that with the first 3 I think, since at the time the 4th was about to come on, and after watching a few, I knew this was something I wanted to be caught up on ASAP.
