NBC renews 'Heroes,' 'Office,' 'Earl,' 'SVU'
NBC is renewing four of its most-watched series through spring 2008: "The Office," "My Name Is Earl," "Law & Order: SVU" and the breakout freshman hit "Heroes."
That doesn't mean the original "Law & Order" and other popular NBC series are toast, Kevin Reilly, the network work's entertainment chief, told critics today.
"Most or all of them will be back," Reilly said, when the network's fall schedule is announced in early May.
(Memo to "ER" fans: Relax, people. The show was renewed through spring '08 long ago.)
What about such low-rated but "creatively special" shows -- Reilly's phrase -- as "Friday Night Lights," "30 Rock" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"?
Reilly gave all of them qualified votes of confidence, sounding most optimistic about "30 Rock," the Tina Fey comedy which brought the hilarious Alec Baldwin a Golden Globe this week.
He said he hopes the other two will build up the ratings they deserve. In any case, look for "Studio 60" and "Lights" to continue at least through this spring.
Reilly also announced that "Identity," a game show that scored with viewers in a December tryout, will return in March with the first of seven new episodes.
Also planned for sometime this spring: six one-hour episodes of "Thank God You're Here," based on an Australian improv comedy hit, with funny guys David Alan Grier and Dave Foley.
NBC plans to introduce two new dramas and a comedy before the season is over but does not yet have air dates for any of them.
Andy Richter stars in the comedy, "Andy Barker, P.I.," about a mild-mannered accountant who becomes an unwilling detective. Critics got to see the first two episodes, which looked appealingly offbeat in a droll, Richter-ish way.
The dramas are "The Black Donnellys," an ensemble drama from Oscar winner Paul Haggis ("Million Dollar Baby," "Crash"), and "Raines," a detective yarn with Jeff Goldblum.[/quote]
Thanks for the info, though it was already posted by me. I just didn't include the other shows that go renewed or the new show, so it did add to what I said.
