Ultimate Warrior memorial wrestling thread 1959-2014

What's with WWE killing people's first names? They cut Antonio out of Cesaro, They cut Alexander out of Rusev and they killed Big E's last name. It's getting really weird and I don't like it.

Also: I'd rather see JTG on television than Alberto Del Rio.
I thought it was funny that Brooke Tessmacher went to Miss Tessmacher because of Brooke Hogan.

Also, sad that we're down to the 1 1/2 man band :( Maybe Miz and Ziggler can join him on their jobber crusade.

And we're saying goodbye to this:

Not that she could wrestle all that well or anything but that doesn't stop them from keeping Eva Marie employed with seemingly zero training.

The cuts are supposedly blamed on how the WWE Network didn't meet their lofty expectations.  They're also apparently not done with cutting people either.  So we might see some more tomorrow.

What fat is there left to cut from the main roster? Just from a quick glance at the profiles on the WWE site, I could see Darren Young, Titus O'Neill, Primo and Epico, Slater, Ryder, possibly Otunga (though I think he does a lot of PR for WWE), Xavier Woods, and maybe Justin Gabriel.

I thought it was 500, but I guess I didn't realize that memorial threads could go longer... If that's the case, then yeah JTG doesn't exactly deserve his own thread or at least not yet.

I thought memorial threads went to 1000 posts?

Don't shit on the Warrior with a JTG thread. C'mon now.
Sorry. I actually forgot about the 1,000 posts for a memorial thread and quickly started the JTG one due to him getting released. No worries the JTG one is locked now.

Pat Patterson announcing he's gay is the top story on TMZ right now.

I thought that fact was already common knowledge?
I guess the distinction is that it's not something he's said publicly. From the show, what I could gather is that pretty much everyone knew about it and knew his partner, but they didn't make a big deal about it and kept it somewhat hidden from the fans over the years.

Is liken it to Robin Roberts or Anderson Cooper's public acknowledgements of coming out. Apparently everyone knew and it wasn't something that was protectively hidden by these people but this is the first time they've put the information into a public forum.

I hope this wasn't just some attempt at a ratings grab for the Network. I can see it happening just because he's a long time company man but I would hope McMahon wouldn't stoop that low (spoiler alert: he would).

So I'm just hoping he decided that he wanted to more publicly reveal his story for his own reasons even if it wasn't exactly a closely guarded secret.

TMZ sure does love these kinds of stories so they can sit there and point at all the different people, ignoring Harvey Levin's own story. Always make it seem like it's some sort of witch hunt to find all of the gays in entertainment. And I'm sure if you go to the comments section you'll get a lot of the tired "men in their underwear grabbing each other, of course it's gay" kind of jokes which just reminds you that we haven't come that far after all.

Roman-Barrett was Roman's best singles match to date and his squashing of 3MB was glorious - not quite company-leaving worthy though. I would've brought back the barricade spear for that. Jey-Rowan was way too quick to mean anything. BO DANCING TO TRUTH'S THEME was amazing. JBL referencing "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" was amusing - I can't wait until 2020 when references Soulja Boy. The whole match was a blast, and Bo is adding a lot of little touches to the act, like arm pumps and wacky phrases to make it work even more. After getting zero hype until the guys walked backstage, they made up for Cesaro-Sheamus with the Heyman-Cesaro pre-match hype.

I loved Heyman explaining the whole story behind the tape, and it played so perfectly into everything that it made me wish they either saved it for the PPV or at least a well-hyped Raw match if such a thing exists anymore. Sheamus-Cesaro was the best match on SD all year and even better than their PPV match. It played off that marvelously, and did enough new stuff to feel different. This was a must-watch and an easy contender for best TV match of the year. So sad they muted Summer calling Layla a twat on Main Event. Summer Rae in black leather is fine by me. I loved Big E turning the Swagger bomb into a counter for the Big Ending - hopefully he makes it a counter-finisher more often. Lana's ass is always nice to see. Aksana-Fox wasn't good, but fun to watch due to Aksana's terrible offense. Loved Bray busting out an apron uranage for an act break move. Bray-Ambrose wound up being Dean's best singles match to date. He was so damn great as Ricky Morton here - even falling upon just trying to put weight on the injured arm. Seth being part of the finish worked to further their story, but hurt the match a bit since it really should've been a DQ or no contest. Still, this match was a blast! The whole show was fun.

I was gonna say, I thought I remembered someone talking in a book about how Patterson would get really touchy with a lot of the guys to the point where restraining orders may have been involved.

Didnt Barry O even sue WWF because Patterson tried to rape them or something? And how the only way to get ahead in WWF was by being with Pat?

Don't know about suing, but he outed on Larry King Live back in the early 90's that Patterson & Terry Garvin tried something like that. There was another guy that did stuff like that to the ring crew that eventually caused WWE to edit him out of Wrestlemania 3 when it came out on DVD(to avoid a lawsuit).

Yeah, Mel Phillips. Black guy who was the ring announcer on Challenge for a few years (and on a lot of house shows). It's weird though, on the Network its the normal Hogan-Andre edit. As far as I know that version with just the hard camera on that DVD is the only time I've seen them do that.

----

Randomly saw some pics of Mick Foley's daughter earlier. I seem to remember Foley saying in his book that his wife was a model when they met. I'll take his word for it, since his kid is definitely not hard to look at, and she's not getting those looks from him.

I'd have to disagree, that's not a bad lookin' kid.

Tonight, I watched most of the Raw episode with the Nitro simulcast on The Network, and it made me remember how great Heyman was on commentary, especially compared to Lawler today.

I didn't buy that rumor. I tend to think that most of news is made up for hits and then it gets passed down to other sites. 411mania via wrestler via insider via wrestlingobserver via some drunk guy. Last week there was one of these where wwe was no longer releasing people but just allowing contracts to expire. Wrong!

Looks like MVP is out tonight in the main event.. so whoever wins Bobby Lashley vs Samoa Joe and Austin Aries vs. Kenny King move on to the main event for a 3 way cage match with EY.  That should be good, also got the x-division ladder match and Bully/EC3 texas death match.

So in other words; Lashley and King vs EY with EY pulling out the incredible upset!? Im just wondering who the person is who thinks MVP is any good at all? Never mind should be the main villain in your company. Bully Ray has more than proven he should be the top heel but they have him become a good guy for no reason. I just dont get it.

No no.. you've got TNA confused w/ Daniel Bryan and John Cena matches with WWE. TNA has Bully a face right now because of the New York shows coming up, otherwise he would have still been a heel. I think MVP can put on decent matches and cuts pretty good promos.

Well TNA has been copying all of WWEs Daniel Bryan stuff lately, thats why I said that.

Hopefully after the NY shows are over he goes back to what he should be.

MVP is just that, decent. I hate his promos though. To me he is another Mr Anderson. Average in the ring, MVP prolly a lil better there and not good mic work. I know Anderson has a great voice for the mic work, just has nothing to say. All 13 year old stuff trying to sound cool... or as Anderson would say FREAKIN cool, asshole.

I really want to like TNA so much, right now it seems like a lost cause for me.

I'll disagree about MVP's promos.  IMO, he comes across as a smooth, smarmy heel that you can't wait to see get his comeuppance which is precisely his position at the moment.

After reading the results of the PPV, that had to be the most predictable PPV any wrestling company has done.  If it keeps going this route, I don't see much or any of a future for TNA.  It's fairly obvious by the ratings that people are tired of the crap.  It shows when EY's segments have been the lowest rated segment of the show in the past month.  So if ratings stay abysmal as they are, I doubt SpikeTV would even want it(they'd probably get better ratings running old movies in that time slot).

If TNA gets crowds like ECW did in NY, I hope that crowd hijacks the show.  Much like that WWECW show they had there with Batista vs Big Show as the main event.  Because TNA has it coming with the way the company treat the fans now.

So what are we at...95-100 percent chance that TNA will do a Hardy Boyz vs. Team 3D match at the NY tapings?

Seems like they might be trying to goad Spike into getting a new TV deal by presenting something that isn't their usual product.  Crowd should be into Ray/Devon and Muta at least.

What does RoH have now for a tv deal? I know I dont get it on tv here, but wondering if it is something they can get out of if Spike were interested in them instead of TNA. Id much rather watch that (even with Kevin Kelly announcing.. ick) than current TNA product. If only TNA had kept Daniels and Kaz, we could be watch them having great matches with the American Wolves.

I almost went to Slammiversary, then I realized it was TNA. The idea of a 3 hour drive to Dallas seemed more like it'd be 8 hours.

Crazy powerbomb spot in that X-Division ladder match though. Dayum.

They are owned by a company that owns a lot of CW and MY stations. Doubtful they would move to cable.

Finally the next evolution of Cody Rhodes. From dashing, to disfigured, to dangerous, and now dazzling.

Well, if the Cody repackaging is actually going to stick and not just a vehicle to further an eventual heel turn, I'm all for a weirdo tag team. Standard Cody has never been that exciting to me, good guy or bad guy.
