Here is a new preview.

I read this Thursday and it's cool that there's a kb/mouse support. Now people who really want to use it on a console can't complain anymore. I'm just curious to see if they'll add an editor like the PC version in the previous versions and if we'll be able to play against PC players. Sony did it w/final fantasy and phantasy star...don't see why they won't w/this one.

Pretty sure I read elsewhere that the PS3 version will support mods.

Yes it does. I think the 360 version will as well.

And did anyone else find it funny that the preview was referencing Doom 3? That game came out almost three years ago. Next time they get someone to do a preview they should get someone who plays FPS games and who can tell us the actual names of the guns instead of providing generic descriptions.
When you have UT3 and Half-life 2, who needs Halo 3?
Not really the best argument seeing as both of those will be on 360 where you can have halo 3 as well....

regardless I'm quite pumped for UT3 :)

He is right though. I'll be happy with those two titles on the PS3. I don't think he was trying to make any kind of argument...

I love Unreal. I'm been waiting for the next one for sooooooo long.

This is the best news for Consoles I have read in a long time. I had written off ps3 and was going to get xbox360, to me they really are almost equal, I want bang for my buck, but now if KB+M is going to be the norm for available controls on PS3 and not the exception and microsoft doesn't answer back then, the ps3 will have to become a failure for me not to get one. I will be holding off on xbox360 now to see what the PS3 does. I got tired of the video card rat race with PCs and just figured I wouldn't play FPSes anymore and become a console gamer, but now I can enjoy FPSes and be 100% console Gamer, I hope.

My point was, the main reason everyone buys 360 is for Halo, and when you have two great FPS like UT and Half-Life 2 (which I don't believe are worse than Halo) that also come out for the PS3, spending 400 to play Halo is kind of foolish and not worth it. No game is worth 400 in my mind. And if you take away Halo, what else does 360 have since most of it's games come out on PC? Gears of War, which Epic said will come to PC Plus, I am not a big FPS'er anyways, so If I feel the need to play one, I can play UT and Half-Life 2. I like playing FPS only in MP and that is where UT excels. So, we shall see.

LOL @ the not-so-subtle 360 bashing
Playing agaist PC players would be cool, haven't seen anything about that yet though.
Since it will support KB+M it shouldn't matter, Maybe like a previous poster suggested the option should be included to allow/disallow certain control options when playing online.

Sounds sweet. That interview where he didn't know if it was there or not was kind of getting me worried. There are plenty of shooters coming out around then and the kb/m support was one of those factors making me get UT3/

Unreal seems to be the best value to me with the mods and support they will be giving. If they pull off PC and PS3 mixmatching that will add to the worth to me.

After Warhawk there will be even more people with headsets. Plus Socom will be before this so it will motivate more to get headsets.
Extremely excited for this game.

Hopefully a lot of people use headsets while playing.
Yes, the world needs more 12 year olds spouting insults every time they die.

Wow, that joke got lame after hearing it...I dunno, half a million times?

Every time a headset is mentioned on this site, someone always posts "12 year olds! 12 year olds! 12 year olds!"

I am turning 30, and I usually quit a game right away if A) not enough teammates have headsets, B) too much trashtalk on voice.

As for KB/Mouse: I don't like using KB/Mouse at all, but I do acknowledge it as being a superior system. So If I want to use my controller, I can no expect to get crushed by kb/m users. So the only way I like this option, is if it is a server setting to disallow certain control types.

There are certain balance mechanics that can be put in place to even things out. Shouldn't be too bad.

Also, I've mostly encountered fun, mature people online. However it's the few idiots that stick with you the most.

Thankfully, Epic has been good with providing ignore and mute features.

Joke? Didn't realize it was a joke. The reason I mentioned it is because in my experience it's been true. Can you honestly say that the majority of people using headsets online do it with any level of maturity?

It's selfish of me, but I think more people having a mic would lower my gaming experience. I realize I can mute them individually, and I do - but it bothers me that I need to in the first place.

Headsets would be fine if you could create a chatroom outside of a game, and had the option of only transmitting/hearing those in your chatroom. I'm hoping that will be a reality once in-game XMB becomes available.

I don't see that happening anytime soon, if at all (external chat rooms hosted). You can use programs like x-fire (that still out?) and make chat sessions on your computer with friends will playing your PS3 though.

They're two different games though, it's useless to compare them, other than that they're both first person shooters.

UT3 is primarily a multiplayer driven game where all the gameplay, even the single player experience is basically a deathmatch variant.

Halo 3 has a real single player campaign, a plot, set characters, cutscenes, etc... Sure, its multiplayer is popular, but it wouldn't be what it is now if it had no single player.

Well, if you ask Wombat, Halo 2 didn't have a Single Player either. :)

And you know, I'd actually agree with Wombat in a way.

It's interesting though, they say there's putting in some sort of single player campaign in this one. It's not quite a full SP campaign, but they said there's a story with cutscenes that ties each battle together for the SP.

Another thing is that they're putting a lot of single player-like features into the bots. Namely, banter, orders, intelligent AI, etc...

Wasn't really a UT fan that much but I saw the demo for this and WOW... EPIC WOW! lol GoW wow. Might actually entertain this game too

UT3 has 4 player co-op in its campaign.

We are a gaming Community. We need all of them LOL ;)

Well with Halo 2 the Xbox has an advantage with Auto aiming so it kinda sucks the the PC users. That can intrest you...maybe.

I'll definately be picking this game up; my biggest issue is that I'll want to use mouse/keyboard for it instead of the standard controller and I'll have to figure out a setup that work. I would pick it up for PC, but my machine is about 2 1/2 years old so I'm sure it won't have enough "oomph" to run UT3.

UT2004 was the shit! I'm sure this will be created in its image.
UT3 has 4 player co-op in its campaign.
I just hope it's a real campaign and not just a bunch of deathmatches and such thrown in. While I know that's how the Unreal Tournament story goes (as "Tournament" implies), it would be nice to actually have a bit more of an Unreal story thrown in for campaign instead.

This game is the biggest game coming to the PS3 this fall, if just for the name recognition. It will definitely sell a few consoles as those who want to play UT3 as cheap as possible will most likely use this option.
Buying/Upgrading your PC to play UT3 isn't really cheap, or it runs about the same price as a PS3, UT, and KB/M.

The hoverboard is so that you can move quicker while playing whatever the new onslaught mode is called. They are doing this to alleviate some of the issues related to people not getting into a fight quickly because of having to foot it to the next node.

That is Awesome@! I am a long time fan of unreal tournament. My friends and I still play the original as a warmup then switch to 2004. I can't wait to tell them.

Same reason I'm getting it for the PS3, PC is long over do for and overhaul. Why I like home systems. You pop the game in and it runs with no fuss.

I don't want to downplay the importance of UT coming to PS3, but we live in a hard core gamer world, who make up the buying minority. In _general_ UT is a game for gamers. Most of my friends buy games/own consoles, but I wouldn't consider them 'gamers'; they wouldn't know what UT stood for. I agree the name recognition in the hardcore audience is great, but we forget we are a minority. Hardcores tend to adopt early, so it is not a system seller to them if they already have one. And can it be a system seller if it is multiplatform? I will agree that the ability to play mods can be a PS3 system seller to hardcore UT fans. ;-)

They wanted to bring back some of the close in, or at least personal fighting that was in the original UT. With 03/04 maps got too huge for this.

So, you'll see a return of a lot of not quite smaller maps, but maps made so that the fighting happens closer to each other, while at the same time there's still big vehicle maps.

The hoverboard is a great addition, you can't use weapons while riding it, but it gives you a lot of speed, and you can even latch on to friendly vehicles to hitch a ride. However, it has one giant drawback. If you take damage, even a single point, you'll get knocked off the board on the ground the have to get back up, leaving you vulnerable. This is a nice balance mechanic that means you won't use it to zip around combat areas, nor can someone zip in and out with the board if the flag is even remotely guarded. But, you can use it to quickly get from one fight to the next.

Despite all this, I'm more interested in the mods that'll come out for this game. I don't like deathmatch variants, which arguably all these gametypes are. Thankfully, the modding community hasn't disapointed me yet.

One of the biggest selling points in my mind. Mods are usually a huge selling point. I remember one of the main reasons I bought Half-Life 1 was to play the original CS!

PC and PS3 Online Crossplay is enabled for Unreal games!

Epic and IGN today announced that Gamespy's online technology will be licensed with Unreal Engine 3. The best part of this deal is that it will enable cross-platform play against PC and PlayStation 3 owners, according to the press release.

Gamespy technologies that will be made immediately available to license include matchmaking services, in-game chat services, online data storage (e.g. statistics), leaderboard and tournament services.

While it's not guaranteed that every developer who uses Unreal Engine 3 for PC and PS3 titles will utilize Gamespy's tools, we feel confident that this is the final piece of evidence we need to safely say that Unreal Tournament 3 will sport PC and PS3 cross-play. Questions about keyboard-mouse vs. gamepad play and user-generated maps / mods have already been addressed by developer Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein.
