Mega-bump, but I just got back my replacement Serious Sam, and thought that this might be useful to anybody who still has a defective disk.

What to do: You don't even have to contact or call them first. Just mail your game to the following address.

Take 2 Interactive
Customer Support
9900 Franklin Square Drive
Suite A
Baltimore MD 21236

I would include a letter explaining the situation. Here's the one I used:

Dear Take 2,

I recently received a copy of Serious Sam (Xbox) for Christmas. Upon loading it up, I found it to be extremely choppy, prone to freezes and unplayable. This was confusing to me as the game was new, and as you can see, it is in pristine condition. I asked the gift-givers for their place of purchase, and after checking it out, I learned that I had received the last copy that the store had.

I checked around online, and I learned that Serious Sam (Xbox) had a bad first print run, causing the first shipment of games to be unplayable.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: If you’re experiencing massive slow down during gameplay and gets a "Dirty Disk or Damaged error", it is not your Xbox but a defective disk. Look in the bottom of your disk and look at the serial number, it would have "XXXXXX 03 01" (X’s are different serial numbers but "03 01" are consistent). All good copies of Serious Sam have 05 instead of 03.

As you can see on the disk, the serial number indeed ends with 03 01. The websites that I visited all said that you would replace said game free of charge (due to it being a manufacturing error).

Once again, I am asking you to replace this bad press of Serious Sam (Xbox), which is defective through no fault of my own.

Thank you very much,

Your Name

The whole thing took less than 2 weeks. I received a sealed copy of Serious Sam that worked perfectly fine. If you own a defective copy of this game, you can fix it for the cost of shipping.

ORIGINAL POST:
Alright, I decided to take Serious Sam (XB) out of the backlog today, and I find that it skips ALOT, and it even crashed (giving me a "your disk may be dirty or damaged" error). To the people who have played this game, have you experienced skips / jerks / pauses? It also loads the levels fairly slowly.

To people who have had Thompson drive problems: I checked a few of my other games and they SEEM to be fine. Have you experienced problems on a select few number of games, but have had other games play normally?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

yes my sam really skips and loads very slowly on my older thompson drive..it's playable but not a great experience...you are not alone

*wipes sweat from brow* phew. I was already fretting buying a new Xbox. Have you tried it on a newer Xbox (or different drive)? Doesn't it play like it should?

I have never played serious sam, but my xbox ran every game great until I got the original Ghost Recon. Actaully, it played the GR campaign fine, but xbl sucked. I also bought another game or two around then and had problems, but all my older games worked fine.

Fortunatly MS fixed mine xbox for free and it has worked great since.

Good luck with yours/

Its the disc..you can send off to get a new one, my brother had the same problem and found out thru gamefaqs that they released a faulty disc he contacted the company and got a brand new one.

my x-box runs everything else fine other then that game...i haven't tried it on another machine but i should. the disk is clean and even some of the most beat up games i have willl play fine on it...other then sam :whistle2:\

It played very crappy on my xbox and my friends launch xbox. It was a copy i bought at blockbuster and it had scratches and dirt on it. I took it back after 25+ days to get my money back ($9 at the time i think).

The first batch of Serious Sam has some serious issues on all Xbox's. That and a thompson drive is a deadly combination. I know they used to offer a repleacement if you told them about it.

Guys, call the 800 number in the manual. The earliest batch of Serious Sam is bad, and the publisher will still replace the game for free (you pay postage to get it to them). I just sent mine about a month ago.

Here is the number: 1-800-211-6504

Beat me to it. SS is a great game but alot of people got stuck with bad disks. Esp. those that got it on release day.

The funniest thing is that I got this at TRU a couple of months ago. Shows how much they move their merchandise :? .

MEGABUMP.

I just got my new sealed fixed copy of SS, and everything went smooth and spiffy. Bump for anybody that has a defective copy of Serious Sam, and an explanation of how easy it is to exchange it (you pay to ship it to them).

Check the first post for update.

Mine loads forever, but I don't experience slowdown or anything along those lines. Finally I luck out and get a good version of something.
i went through 3 copies, then i gave up becasue i was so pissed
Did you return them at the store, or did you go through Take2? I think you're guarenteed a working copy if you go through Take2.
