Urban Dead - The Official Cheap Ass Survivor Thread

I'm surprised the Caiger folks haven't been broadcasting on the radio more. They have a reputation for crying wolf. When I saw the airwaves calm this morning, I assumed things were good. A shame - I'm out of bullets.

All 4 generators were destroyed earlier this morning, no more radio.

Usually the radiowaves are full of chatter on the Caiger frequency. If things are quiet, something is truly wrong.

Wow, helluva night in Darvell! Not nearly as active in the Mornington/Reganbank border zone. I've now scraped up enough xp to reach level 3 so I'm planning on saving up ap to cross an entire suburb or two in one night. Currently, I have melee, axe, and freerunning skills so I feel like I can at finally contribute to the cause. In two more nights or so I hope to join my fellow CAS members in the war against the deadites, see 'ya soon boys!

PS-I checked out the river tactics page, seems to make sense to me and as I started out so damn far awy from everyone else I'm used to the idea of moving about. That being said, I also can understand the viewpoint to stay put and fight the good fight. Staking a claim and keeping it in the face of adversity earns consistent xp and can become a point of pride for the CAS as a group. I guess, either way I'm fine.

shit i knew it was bad there, didn't think it was that bad. I was gonna go there tomorrow for ammo anyway. Now i can just chop some heads instead.
It's not too bad. There's only 21 zombies in the NW part of Caiger at the moment.
Haha, inside? Peace bitches...

Also, Hallet was brought down to QSB...bad news bears. Good thing I checked in before bed. I was able to bring it's barricades to VSB +1 before running out of AP. I jumped over to the junkyard for the time being. Be sure to check on the status in the morning.

fuck, fellas. Looks like we (Hallett-ers) might be zeds by morning. Barricaded it up to HB. Looks like I'll finally be able to use my saved up EXP =/

Haha i'm bored, decided to start trouble. Adam sends his regards. :whistle2:\" Probably back to my normal plan of not playing. Nothing personal towards anyone all in good fun...

Edit: Oh yea Adam is in Havercraft Ackland Mall. His head on a platter if you want it. Shady the gunslinger is outside Crossman PD. Have at, wasn't as ugly as i'd hoped... The Adam take down was classic all those PKs and then ran so far off all with 50 points I lol. :D

Made my way back from the mall which appears (at least the NE and SE corners) to be back up and running. Generators were fixed and are running.

I passed Lascelles and noticed the doors were wide open. I went in an caded it up to VSB++. I'm not going to be able to join again tonight so I will be checking into the game througout the day in case Hallet needs more cading. There were 4 zeds standing outside Hallet when I last went by.

Yeah, I noticed your characters don't have a group.

So I assume we should remove you from the member list?
There is about 26+ zombies outside of NW Caiger.
Well that's not good. Maybe I should move to a different part of Caiger.

So what's the best way to go about leveling up and finding equipment? Also, what are the radios for and should I have mine set to a certain frequency?

Should we be suspicious of zombie spies? There's a guy inside the Hallett (WrongWay Feldmen) with just Free Running; belongs to the group "The Wrong Ones." I'm kind of worried since we were almost attacked last night.

In light of my affection towards the EB/GS employees who routinely give me free game demos and strategy guides, I have moved from Hallet to Caiger Mall. I just cannot see that store perish to the Slickdeals/FatWallet Horde.

If anyone else would like to protect the mall, I would suggest using the Pagram Library as access. I wasted a few hours worth of AP walking around the mall trying to find another way in. That was the only one.

Lasc. Library has been violated (Possibly sexually?) by zombies. One was inside w/57 health when I fled. Was low on AP and needed to get somewhere safe.

With what little AP I had left, I checked out Lascelles which is ruined and had 5 zeds outside and 3 inside. I hacked on one a bit and then fled. Wheelhouse had it's doors closed but that was about it so I got it to loosely barricaded before fleeing back to Hallet, completely spent.

Wheelhouse is the current access point into Euty's which can take you to Hallet. I believe Euty's is at VHB.

There were zeds outside every major building in our area. I think 4 outside Hallet.

OKay - home from work. Have 50 AP. Time to try to work my way up toward you guys from Ruddlebank some more and try to get some XP along the way.

Hey Plume, have you found anything or gotten any xp yet? If so, care to share how. I'm at Egbert Hospital in West Grayside right now. I'm gonna start moving towards CAS but I was hoping to do something useful along the way to build up my character.

Okay, I'm back with the living, but out of bullets. I won't be able to help much tonight.

Re: Spies? Not usually worth wasting AP on unless they're attacking the barricades/generator/radio/people.

Oh...crap. I got a zombie down to 2 HP and wasn't paying attention to my AP.

It's nice to know I have fallen asleep in front of a zed. This is going to be a long 30 mins...

I got lucky and found a zombie with only about 17 HP on my first day and killed it. I got about 55 XP now. I haven't found anything else yet.

The way I made all my initial XP was by healing people. Search inside hospitals with generators running (they appear yellow on the map). Generators give a greater percentage to find something. Once you get a few first aid kits (FAKs), you can start healing people for 5 XP per heal. The problem is that you won't have the Diagnosis skill so you won't know who needs healing initially. But if you can gather a stash of FAKs and make it to CAS HQ, we'll be able to tell you who needs healing.

Also, since you are a firefighter, you have a 25% chance off the bat to hit with the fireaxe. Once you can get the Hand to Hand combat skill, you'll be able to hit 40% of the time with the axe. That is pretty sweet since it is a "free" attack meaning you don't need ammo to do it.

Getting enough XP for Free Running is also essential because it will let you get into buildings that are above Very Strongly Barricaded.

Believe me, the initial week (weeks for me - I started as a medic) are really tough. The sooner you get to the group, the quicker you will get up to speed.

It depends on what skills you have, if you're a firefighter probably just whacking at zombies would be the best thing.

I'd first get Free Running, that way you can enter the more heavily barricaded buildings and be safe.

I personally went with Diagnosis and gathered first aid kits and healed people up until I had enough combat skills so I can do more damage to zombies and therefore get more XP.

The best thing about Urban Dead is that there are a variety of ways to get XP. (http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/XP)

Yeah, starting as a Medic is the worst thing you can do. You get a pistol but no training, and FAKs but no diagnosis. The surgery skill they do get actually lowers the amount of EXP they get.

If you go to Caiger Mall, don't leave. The zombie mob attacking has three separate groups that attack at three different times. So, at least three times a day the mall will be attacked. In between it will look like everything is fine...shortly thereafter, it will be under attack.

There's a damn good page on the Wiki on mall siege tactics. It's slightly out of date now because of the barricade-block thing, but it's still a very good read.

Good night for me tonight (emphasis on the "for me" part ). I made my way to St. Alosyius Church in Kinch Heights, connected with a few swings on two zombies, and found a first aid kit and wine .. and a crucifix too but from what I read they do nothing. I'm down to zero AP now so no play for me until tomorrow.

dammit. 30 mins, got 1 AP back and I was unmolested and the zombie was still there with 2 hp left. All I need to do is hit him once with my axe.

Swing.

Miss.

ZZZzzzzzz.

Dammit.
Where is he Plume .. I wanna sneak the kill from ya :bouncy:
I'm somewhere in Wykewood...not sure where....

Hey guys, tried this game out and I have no idea what I'm doing. I chose scout but have no idea how I can gain any exp at all.

Is there a way to reset my character and start from square 1?

Well I'll be damned! Er...Actually I'll be dead! I just now suffered my first death. I stopped my trek in Reganbank to kill a zombie, any xp is good xp. Had him at 2 hp, with no others of his kind on the map. I delivered the final blow and still had 2 ap to spare, perfect to move one block and enter the VSB bldg. I had just verified. As soon as I make the kill, I leave the room to grab a drink, I stop off to pet the dogs and come back. DEAD! I was gone all of 5 to 10 min. and had a full 50 hp! Seriously, the damn zombie had to have hit me with virtually every single attack. Of all the no good, rotten luck. I can't believe I died in this fashion, for nothing but a glass of water!

Sorry for the rant, just a little ticked off at the moment. I've never died before so this is new to me. At least I know there's a revive point real close, I'm off to find the req. tool thingy. Good luck tonight guys, obviously I won't be arriving in as timely a manner as I had hoped.

PLUME, MAKLER: With regards to trying to level up while traveling to the group from a fellow low-level wanderer. Search LIGHTED bldgs for supplies, pick off zeds that others or you have previously weakened, no matter what don't sleep outside, always count your ap to make positive moves in the right direction (even small moves help), buddy up to friendly groups in the suburb as their VSB bldgs will save your life. Oh, and never, EVER, get up and get a drink of water!
