Yeah, could be. I also posted a link to another forum with him selling stuff. If there are any matches with CAG games he wanted (or games which someone might have sent him).
While I'm at it, I'm going to search for DP and others possibly and see if anyone else has jumped from site to site trading. Basically, I feel many game trading sites really need to get together to stop these people from continuing IMO.
Just a head's up to anyone shipping to Canada, if you kept your receipt or the customs form (receipt) you can track it with the customs number at usps.com or canadapost.ca
It gives results similar to DC. The customs number doesn't always work, but the 2-3 times I checked items (one was stuck in customs for 3 weeks) they always showed when it was delivered. It won't get your game back, but you can at least verify if he is lying or not.
Heyy, ths was the guy who posted the bogus thread about winning a bunch of awesome stuff at an estate auction. Funny stuff, funny stuff.
But really, this makes me feel bad about having low feedback. People are more inclined to think you're scamming them (especially when things like this happen) when you have around the amount of feedback I have, even if you are a semi-established member.
Ah, that is a shame. This is one of the reasons why I am very reluctant to trade at all. I've bought one or two things from EBay and was pretty nervous doing that. I don't feel comfortable until I get what I paid for. Online trading always had me wonder.
It would suck for me since I have 0 trades (I'm new here). It really makes me wonder if I should even bother at all. What happens in these cases for the people who got scammed? I hope you guys get something back.
I don't get why wanting a lot of things at once is instantly suspicious. My 2nd transaction on CAG (second that I was the one providing the games rather than buying) was to a guy that asked me for nigh 25 games (secretvampire). Once I worked out a price, he paid me instantly and that was that, but I wasn't instantly wary at the initial request... Should I have been?
Though I guess since it was a sale and I was able to request money first, it's a different story, huh?
That aside, I also posted in his thread about having a dreamcast for sale when he was posting an open WTB offer, and never got a response. I don't think I had a lot of feedback at that point (maybe 10 or so, certainly not significantly more than his 5), so now I'm curious as to why I didn't get a PM. Although it's ultimately a good thing I didn't...
Selling is different, you got the money first so no big deal unless the person reversed the payment. Looks like the guy was strictly aiming for lower feedback victims after awhile so your few feedback higher saved you

Man, I feel bad for everyone on here recently. I've never had anything but awsome experiences with people on here and trading / selling over the net in general. There is just one crappy seller on eBay who's mint game wasn't close mint.
I've even sold to people off of craigslist internationally, which I would assume is a big no-no, but it worked out fine. About a year ago, some girl from Austrailia bought about 100 bucks or so of anime DVDs.
I just hope this doesn't sour everyone who trades and sells on here, and prevent people from having a good time trading stuff.
Selling is different, you got the money first so no big deal unless the person reversed the payment.
yep, its why you need to watch out with taking paypal in the event the person files a bogus claim- use delivery confirmation as a way to track shipment, and if the method of payment is by paypal echeck or CC, wait until the funds clear before shipping.
to think this ass monkey offered to pay $45 dollars for 2 games, surely this would have happened. he balked when i asked him to pay in advance ...these scammers ought to be tarred and feathered old skool
im posting here. i sent him 4 360 games in exchange for a nintendo ds lite + cash. he received my goods. he said he shipped out the ds, its been a month. i havent gotten anything.

Ouch that really sucks. Also I suggest for very valuable trades you should only trust people with very high feedback or if they really want it then they should ship first. Try not to seem desperate
Ah, that is a shame. This is one of the reasons why I am very reluctant to trade at all. I've bought one or two things from EBay and was pretty nervous doing that. I don't feel comfortable until I get what I paid for. Online trading always had me wonder.

Well, if you are scared of getting scammed, then what i'd do is to trade with more estabilished traders first (lots of them here btw) and build up your rating. once beyond certain score (i'd think around 20) then the other dude would have to send first about most of the time. This is really the only way i think that will make the trade a lot safer for yourself.
also, I think it is good thing to check what ppl put on their tradelist, for example the current/past transaction list, I have one and it let ppl know what is going on.

I don't think so, but I would be relectant to do so since you never know if the guy is a scammer or not. That's why I'd really only trade multiple games with a guy that is really established.
I mean think about it, unlike ebay where paypal makes things much safer, once you send out the games from trades in CAG, it is really gone forever if the guy is a scammer. (this is from reading part of the tread in drunkenpolock or what ever his name is, where ppl are trying to get the police involved w/o success. donno what the most updated status is with that since i stopped following after a while)
im posting here. i sent him 4 360 games in exchange for a nintendo ds lite + cash. he received my goods. he said he shipped out the ds, its been a month. i havent gotten anything.
true. in the end, i didnt really spend much on those games. only the shipping. heh, funny thing is, he said he shipped/received items from the usa to canada all the time. he said tracking was unavailable to canada. surely, it was trackable via the customs form. i never mentioned it to him, only after the online tracking said he already received the goods. i pm'd him like 3-4 days later about it. he said, "oh sorry, i couldnt remember the trade." he then asked for my address. i said that the address was written on the package that i had sent with the games. he said that he tore up the package and forgot to look. that immediately alerted me.
ps: if anyone is curious, the 4 360 games were:
shadowrun
crackdown
gears
mass effect
if anyone noticed. those games did end up on his trade list too.
thats why I hate shipping international.
Well, I use to never want to try it, but a friend of mine tried to get me to do it since he badly wanted some of my games. I gave it a shot (twice) and it worked out well; however, he paid me first via Paypal and would always chat with me on MSN.
I originally assumed stuff would be just as smooth with others international, but something didn't seem right here so I just couldn't do it (but I would ship to people like magiic and so on, who I know and trust).
Well, I saw he logged into GameTZ at 8pm last night. Some who were scammed need to file a BTR against him there. If you want the link, send me a PM or so (if my PM box is full, don't worry because I'm cleaning it out mostly later today, except the recent transactions).
I would admit, unless someone is starting a video game store, I'd be a bit suspicious now if someone wanted all those games. I kind of felt the same with me. We were in the same situation, because I stated on my tradelist I wanted people to let me know if they were from Canada, and he did not tell me (meaning he didn't read the rules).
I'll admit, I was first thinking maybe he's just taking a lot time to get stuff sent (because he mentioned over and over again he wasn't trying to scam, and some people did eventually receive something), but what has me suspicious is:
-Claims to have no Paypal (or problems), yet one person recently got a Paypal payment (that leads me to believe he tried avoiding Paypal since that's an easy way to track people, and due to getting lots of pressure, went ahead and did it). I was told I'd receive cash/money order, yet he used Paypal later on for someone.
-Only really dealing with several with low feedback (Most normal people at CAG have a good balance between new traders and older trades, not heavily new traders with low feedback, like the DP situation in ways).
-Really insisting on shipping first over and over again, and seems to leave people alone with high feedback.
-Trying to buy more games than an average CAG member, then claiming to have financial problems, paying off stuff (It's understandable to have other bills, but if there is, you wouldn't expect someone to still want to buy a lot of stuff from others, but tell some you cannot buy due to financial issues).
EDIT: I found his thread on another forum: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=512351
Another reason to go with your gut, I felt uneasy to trade with him from the start, he even said if i back out i'd be reported as a bad trader.
Here's the thing, I'm very good about keeping tabs on my transactions and the only reason I finally got paid was by keeping it friendly.
When I send I take a picture of the said items and lay it out as if I selling them something. For Example in my trade with Cheap I will then have some kind of evidence aside from my word of what i sent.

Then he asked for a copy of our transaction, possibly hoping for me to have deleted our transaction I'd bet.
I also asked for his phone number and he refused.
What normal person would not give you an alternate means of contact?
The original transaction was for a $100 MO for my 6 games.
He didn't even alert me to when he got the games, I had to check in and then he claimed he deleted pm's.
His story that it takes about 2 weeks to send and another 2 to receive. so the total process would be 1 month.
Okay so a month goes by with no payment, now i'm getting worried.
Said he would send out on monday, then said he sent out on thursday due to blizzards.
Needless to say when he could not provide proof of the receipt of the MO, I had the sinking feeling :/.
Then I see his wanting to buy thread, I'm like let me get a mod involved, just so someone knows the situation and I don't want another DP incident.
His tune quickly changed thanks to pooky and I finally got paid just recently.
Don't give up guys. I'd be out $100 and some good games if I did.
He may make good on whatever deal you had with him.
count me as one of the scammed by cheapfitzguy..package sent 3/21/2008 nothing ever received....what a dirtbag...
heere are some details and messages back an forth:

hey,
thanks for the reminder, but yours was actually one of the few trades i had wrote down were your games complete? i can't remember for sure, lol. I have not received yet, but there is a package at the PO waiting for me(i got to pay customs fee's) so hopefully that is it, and if so i will be sending right away
ok, so I havent heard from you regarding this since Monday...im just wondering what is going on..??? surely the package was from me? I sent a package to Victoria, BC on March 31st and the guy got it on April 9th and I know that BCc is a helluva lot farther from Massachusetts then Newfoundland is...whats up man? I believe in you and even defended you when NoZol was talking trash. I see that you closed your trading thread which doesn't really send the best message to me, I'm hoping you will complete the trade.
let me know
hey man,
sorry about the lack of responses. I have been swamped at work, and tryin to fix another trade. I sent a guy 100 bucks in a money order, and i lost my reciept. He said he didn't receive, and i can't cancel it without. so i'm out 100 bucks, plus an additional 100 bucks i got to re send As for it taking so long, i live in a little tiny town, and mail is always very slow to reach here. distance doesn't always mean anything. We only have so many planes coming in an out a week, and mail is real bad to get here. I got the package from the po, and it was a copy of valk profile i had ordered. I got another one waiting at the po now, and i am hoping to get it tomorrow/monday. If its not yours, i will still send out your games on tuesday or wednesday, because i believe you sent, and its getting crazy with this wait. I am very sorry, and my end will be held up.
thanks for the patience
?
items were shipped on friday. still nothing tho,.
Wow I feel really bad for those who got scammed! The guy is fishy for sure and just looking at his tradelist from the other site here he is definitely up to something. He claims to have all of these rare games that every collector wants, some of which are near impossible to find.
Anyways, the good news for the people who did get scammed is that because this crime happened across borders, you can all report him to the feds. My girlfriend's Dad got scammed by a guy on eBay who was from Canada. Long story short, eBay and Paypal were notified who then notified the FBI and the RCMP in Canada. He got his money back, but if this guy is still doing this then he will be caught. Escalate it to the proper authorities and make sure you have proof of the transaction as well as all PM's and such. Just a thought.
Here are the sites that I found that could be helpful for those who got scammed:
RCMP fraud IC3
And also be sure to call your local authorities and explain the situation. They will also investigate and escalate the situation to the proper authorities. Hope this helps!
Wanted to buy Growlanser Generations off of me back in March, so I held it for him, but he was really bad about replying and had even forgotten what he wanted to buy off of me at one point @_@
Anyway, he never did pay for the item. I don't know if he's lazy or just unreliable -_-;
thanks for the tips Pck21..
You bet jimijumper! I just hope all of you can get some sort of justice and/or your stuff back. I love trading with people on CAG because of easy and friendly everyone is. It puts a real black eye on the community when people like this come on here and pull this nonsense.
I like how he states in his tradelist at the other site:
What a douchebag...
Ah now that rings a bell. Wasn't sure who this guy was until you said that. I remember him posting that here somewhere I think. I haven't gotten scammed by this idiot, but I'm done with trading online unless its through Goozex. I don't need any newb who sees how easy it can be to scam popping up every week.

I actually feel safer trading on CAG than anywhere else (in fact I've never traded anywhere else). Most of my trades are with people who either have a good amount of feedback or are people who I recognize from posting daily.
A tip is to not have a tradelist until you reach a decent amount of feedback (30+). That way you won't have "too good to be true" offers from shady people who have a total of 5 posts. Whenever I wanted to trade something when I first started, I'd just use the search function in the trading forum and try to trade my game to high feedback users rather than having a tradelist for scammers to look at. That way I determine who I wanted to trade with privately rather than having a target out there.
Once you get to 30, you don't get as nervous trading since people with low feedback have to send first, and if you have to send first to someone with higher feedback, you have less of a chance of getting screwed over.
Goozex and CAG are the only places I trade. Even with these two incidents (DP and cheapfitzguy) of scamming though, I will still continue to trade on here. I'll just be a little more cautious.
I've traded with jimijumper (one of people being scammed) a great deal and he's easily the best person I've ever traded with on CAG. It's really sad that people are being exploited like this, and it pisses me off as well. I really hope that everyone either gets their stuff back, or the stuff that was agree to be sent *actually* does!

However, I was more than willing to ship first to more experienced people.
It sucks I almost got scammed once possibly (w/ cheapfitzguy), and eventually did to DP. But it has caused me to make changes in my tradelist (mostly to rules) so transactions are much smoother.
The handful of times I've had someone insist on me shipping or paying first even though they have fewer feedback has almost always ended in problems, although not outright thefts like this.
I had a couple of people sell me "mint" copies of games only to receive a beat up case with a scratched disc and no booklet. In one case I got a refund on the game's price after contacting a mod, but nothing to cover the cost of shipping the thing back to the guy or anything to cover my Paypal fees, so I made the mistake of sending the thing back without DC since I didn't want to have to eat even more money on the deal. So the guy reports me to the same moderator for never sending him back his beat up, piece of shit game.
I'm just glad I got most of my money back and the bullshit negative he left me taken care of. It probably would have been a lot worse if I hadn't gotten a moderator involved early and began communicating what was happening, although it's a little different when someone is casting a net and trying to con as many people as possible. Either way you should protect yourself.
My rule of thumb is to contact a mod a week after something has been shipped, but not received. Always use DC.
I haven't done so yet, but a good idea would be to get some sort of Paypal deposit if you're trading or otherwise dealing with a new trader. If they don't want to let you hold a percentage of the item's value that raises a red flag. Just work something out where the transfer fees, if any, are worked into the price or are absorbed by both parties. It's just $3.50 to transfer $50 back and forth once between premier Paypal accounts.
how do you guys know he is a scammer? i am trading with him now. i sent my devil may cry 4 at least a month ago, and he's never received it. but he said he'll send his call of duty 4, because he said he trusted me. but he still hasn't received mine, and im still waiting for his. at first, i thought he was a scammer because he had some problem with cobrajunglesnake, but that guy kept bothering cheapfitzguy that he eventually paid junglesnake back, so i dunno what to think about this guy
That's what he said to me. It looks like you can probably add me to the list. I sent two BDs the last week of March. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but if it doesn't work out, I am done trading on this site. It was only my second trade attempt and he had 100% feedback.
i dont think this guy should be too hard to get, because i know he lives with his dad, since cobrajunglesnake had to deal with him. unless he's moved, then we can catch him
Evan Fitzpatrick...I remember from cobrajunglesnake's(NoZoL) posts...he gave me the initials only too...it was my second trade, noob mistake but that still doesn't make it right
I did a search on the address, and the persons name (which could be his Dad) is Noel Fitzpatrick.
That is, in fact, his dad (or at least that's what I was told - I received a PayPal payment from his account and an email stating it was for games for his son).
This is correct, if I recall correctly. I know I put his name down on the package, but mailed to the same address that came with his dad's PayPal account.
Well, if this business about this paypal account belonging to his dad is true - it might not hurt to email the father and tell him whats going on (only those who are out items).
It seems as though we have a name, address, and possibly a phone number on the person correct? If you were one of the people who got scammed, you need to contact your local authorities and file a police report. Give them the name of the user and his father, as well as the address and phone number for their records. Once that is filed, ask for the detective's name and badge number that will be working on the case and ask if you may contact him/her for follow up information. If they don't give you a name that's alright because some police departments do not want you to call them, but instead they will call you if they have any information/questions.
Also, file reports with the IC3 as well as the RCMP via the websites that I provided in my post before and is now located on the OP. Again, I urge EVERYONE that was involved in a trade or sale with the user to take these actions and ASAP. The reason being is, the more complaints they have on him, the higher escalated the case goes. The FBI should be involved because it is across state lines and borders.
I honestly hope they can catch this guy because who knows how many other people he has scammed. Heck he may even be using his Dad's paypal account without his knowledge, resulting in what is known in the business as "family fraud," and that will also be added to the long list of charges he should have against him. Good luck everyone and keep us updated!
EDIT: Didn't want to post the dad's email address as from what contact I've had with him, he seems like a genuinely nice guy and I didn't want a thousand angry posts showing up in his inbox. I sent what I've got to Pooky and will let him take care of it as he sees fit.
Well, if this business about this paypal account belonging to his dad is true - it might not hurt to email the father and tell him whats going on (only those who are out items).
I don't know if I would recommend that decision Pookymeister, only because there could be some other things we don't know about. I have been around these types of situations before and there's a good chance that A) the father doesn't know about his son's scamming or his use of his paypal account, B) there is no father, it is just a made up person, or C) it could be an identity theft situation where there are so many other possibilities that I could be here until midnight listing them all.
Personally, I would recommend against contacting the individual or his family only for your safety. One, this person may have your address and who knows what kinds of people they know. Two, if you alert the person that they have been compromised, my best guess is that they will leave immediately from wherever they are and get rid of all the evidence. Allow the police, feds, and RCMP to do their jobs and recover (hopefully) everyone's games.
Plus, let's say that the father is unaware of his son's scamming. From what I've seen parents will act two ways when dealing with situations like this involving children--they either protect them and help them get rid of the evidence or flat out deny any wrong doing, or they punish the kid so bad that it will make your head spin. I have been on the phone while listening to a child (16 or 17 if I remember) getting beaten by his father because he opened a credit card in his name and racked up some HUGE balances. It was not a fun day for me.
Again, contact the authorities and they will take it from there. With the information provided by the CAG community, there is a really good chance this kid gets nabbed.

Reminds me of the time I spoke to a dad regarding the charge for a couple of pornos on his DirecTV account. The gal sitting behind me could said that she could hear the impact.
I dunno, because I could have sworn I heard about cheapfitzguy having kids of his own and had to feed them or something, which explained why he was selling stuff at once point. I don't remember exactly, but thought I heard that.

Yes, two kids. To add to that, his tradelist abounded with "want games for kids, aged 2 and 5" references. I don't recall the exact ages he had listed, but I think that's about right.

Agreed , cause I had offered him an elmo N64 game , as well as possibly spider-man and batman games if I had any , or other kid-friendly games.
i sent him viva pinata and phantasy star universe. told him $17 dollars, and he said his paypal wasn't working, but would work within a few days. trusted him, sent them out. never heard from him again.
