Video Game Baby Names!!!

If you take a normal enough name or modify the characters name it doesn't have to be such a big deal. Sure, naming a kid Wakka will have him jumping in front of buses in no time. But if you're at least smart about it, it could be an easy lie.

I love nintendo. I've told my longtime g/f that I'd try to convince her to name a child in this sense. BUT, not make it stupid. Take Shigeru Miyamoto. I'd love to name a boy after him, but since neither one of us is Japanese, it'd sound silly. Take a girl and name her "Mia" though and I believe it's an acceptable solution.

MUCH fuckING better than the fucktards I know who've named their kids "Logan" or "Faith" or "Hope"
How about, "The Boat From Jaws." a-la Gamespot.
You left out "for the NES." I got so sick of seeing that in the Gamespot polls that I actually quit visiting them for a while.

I was just playing Mega Man 3, so this came to mind: "Hard Man". What a sweet name for a boy. He'd get all the chicks.

Seriously, though, naming a kid after a character isn't a bad idea, as long as the name itself is good. As someone said earlier, most people are named after someone, so why not a large influence on your life like games?

name him "the dot from adventure"
I would suggest "Tetris", or maybe "T-Block". Those are names everyone can appreciate!

I dated a girl named Ariel, and she was constantly refered to as the little mermaid. She wasn't named after the movie, but that happens sometimes. Another one named her son Brandon Lee ***** because she thought he was hot.

Anyway, most people the same age as your child will have no idea what the hell he was named after unless they're VG dorks to begin with or he tells them.

I myself like a few names, but most seem more hidden.
Lyndis or Lyn (Fire Emblem)
Randy (Randi, Secret of Mana)
Will (Illusion of Gaia)
Super Machoman (Super Punch-out)
If you have twins, name them Alexia and Alfred.
even better, name them 1337 and h4x0r. Nobody's gonna wanna mess with the 1337 h4x0r twins.

It really isn't so bad if you name your kid Leet (as long as you spelled it that way). It may sound more like a nick-name than an actual name, but it doesn't sound like a name you'd get picked on for.

My friend has a daughter who he named Kairi after the character in Kingdom Hearts. Everyone seems to think it's a good name. His wife plays some games and went along with it just fine.

Only one name will demand complete and utter respect yet instill fear in the hearts others.......................................... Hatori Hanzo.

Samurai Shodown I-V
Kill Bill Vol-1

Haha, this is a pretty interesting thread. I have a dead serious suggestion though you might want to consider. His first name should be Albert and middle name Wesker. That way your kid has a normal first name, a freakin awesome middle name, and he can pretty much decide how he wants to be called. Some of these suggestions are pretty cool.

Of course, if it's a girl, I'm rather partial to Rose from Legend of Dragoon (didn't like the game, liked the character) or Cassandra from SC2.

Anyway, congratulations to you and your wife and I hope you make the decision you feel is best.
name your kid suxor, becuase he will indeed suck ass.
you mean sUx0rZ...

Just don't name your kid after an anime character. Could you imagine your kid being called Majin Boo or Inu Yasha? On the other hand there are some pretty good ones like Alucard, and Vash the Stampede doesn't sound too shabby either....

Actually, my son is named after an anime character. His name is Lain, which most people think of as a substitute for Lane. The people in the know get why we named him that.

His initials come out to be LAG, which was on purpose as we went for a computer related term.

For #2, The Wife is hoping for a girl. She's not an anime fan by any means, yet she wants to name her Relina Elizabeth. (Relina is from Gundam Wing). Which the initials would be REG as in registry.

We wanted out kids to have non-typical names as we both have very common ones, John + Jennifer, and grew up always being called John 3 or whatever.

My only suggestion: after you pick a name, do the rhyming game. Figure out how the other kids would use the name to taunt them. Names like Bart, Cole, and Ray are easy. The worst two we could think of for Lain as pain and brain.

Lain is a pretty cool name, although "LAG", well, I just hope he isn't slow. Other kids could call him "Lame", which, as far as taunts go, isn't that bad.

Here I am. I have just been enjoying all of the replies. Well some of them at least. My favorite games are the Resident Evil franchise, the original Tomb Raider, and Castlevania SOTN. I have gone through all of those character's names but I still think Wesker is the best of the batch. I am still confused as do why people think a kid with the name Wesker will be teased. When you hear Mario, you think video games. Just like when you hear Mickey, you think Mickey Mouse, or Britney Spears when you hear Britney. Wesker sounds normal (while real video game gurus or children of video gurus will know the truth). There is nothing wrong with a little originality. Names all start somewhere. I think read somewhere the name Wendy was created in the Peter Pan story.

*** To the people who are constrantly critical and insulting, I ask you: (as I have said countless times) if I was NEVER teased with the last name Pacman (in fact, to this day, kids at my school think it is cool) why woulld they tease a kind with an obscure video game referenced-name like Wesker?

P.S. Kids are not toys you say? Thanks for the observation, Einstein. Lighten up people!

I feel real sorry for one of my friends kids when they get older. They were really into STAR TREK and named the kid

Q

thats right they named their child Q after Q in the Star trek show. What is even more sad they gave the child the fathers middle name BERT..

So the first and Middle name (leaving out the last)

Q bert

man he is going to get teased when he gets older

i would kill myself, that is horrible. fucking idiot parents.

I feel kinda guilty laughing about that, but really, that's freaking hilarious. I'd definitely beat my parents over the head with an arcade machine if they had named me Q-bert.

My wife was going to let me name our daughter Aeris, until some idiot she worked with had to tell her it was from FF. So instead I convinced her to go with Jade from BG&E.

i'm not gonna take my time reading these 12 pages, but I just have to say that is one of the worst ideas from a soon to be parent i have ever heard

You know what's funny? I'm thinking of doing this as well. My wife is about 5 months pregnant, and yesterday we just found out it was a girl.

Now, I'm a big RE fan as well and my wife doesn't really know anything about the games. She told me this morning she had the perfect name... Claire! Woohoo!

I think it's a pretty good name, not too common and not too weird. I'm considering telling her about Claire from RE, but I know she'll then veto it.

Hmmm, decisions...

hahah yes please read carefully.

Well, like others I don't feel like reading all 12 pages, but I read some. Here's what I have to say.

Name them whatever you feel is a fitting name. Even if it's an uncommon name that people think is weird or something. From my experience, when people with unusual names are growing up they MAY not like their names (though that's not a given), but much of the time as they get older they come to appreciate having a unique name.

My name is somewhat unusual (not really the name itself, too much, but the spelling, mostly.) For a while when I was yonger (I'm 19 now) I didn't like it too much (though a big part of that was from CONSTANTLY having to correct people's spelling of it) but now I'm glad that my name isn't like everyone elses. My current feeling is that I'd probably be mad at my parents if they HAD given me a normal name (James, or John, or Steven or... well, any biblical or "american" name, really)

Just do what you want.
name your kid lolo. It's a unisex name
Lolo's all man!
There is nothing wrong with a little originality. Names all start somewhere.
So originality is taking a name from a video game?

While I realize it's not necessarily game related, there's a guy at my school named Hung Long. Seriously. I would LOVE to be able to name my kid Hung Long...

1. Ironically my Grandfather was named Leon but my religion frowns upon naming a child after the recently deceased.

2. Yes, I do think naming a child after a game is an original idea. How many people do you know with "game inspired" names.

3. No, I don't think this child will need therapy

4. Yes, I think a kid would be aggravated with a name with a more original aka confusing spelling (in fact even more annoying than a video game name)

P.S. A very warm and special thanks to Nick Mad for bumping this topic over and over again, who at the very least, feels it neccessary to say in 3,478 different ways that he strongly, stronglly, strongly, strongly, strongly objects to the whole idea.

Now this is where both of us can definetly agree. I don't understand why people feel the need to make their kid's name original by having odd spellings of tradition names.
