Viva Piñata - General Discussion & Piñata Trading - Demo Out Now
I see you guys talking about fertilizing trees and plants. I've planted 2 fully grown apple trees and like 3 poison ivy bushes without using fertilizer. Does the fertilizer speed up the growing process?

And can your level go down if you sell pinatas? I'm a bit freaked to try it because I need money but don't want to risk going down a level.
Fertilizer generally makes your plant bigger and worth more.

You have to tame the sours just like any other pinata. Just meet the requirement to do so. Once you tame a certain type of sour, they will stop coming into your garden.

The garden expands at level 11 and 21.

WTF is going on in this game? I'm not sure if I'm having fun or not but I spent like 3 hours last night playing and I didn't even realize it. I made a lot of Whirlms and a couple of Sparrowmints and right before I quit I finally made a Taffly. I have no idea what I'm doing but for some strange reason I can't wait to play it again when I get home. WHY???

The graphics are sick too. I can't wait until Nintendo releases a system this powerful for these types of cutesy games - they look amazing.

Oh.

I guess that's better than my method which is just mercilessly beating them over the head with a shovel.

Haha - that's what I've been doing. Damn thing made my Taffly sick.

When you tame the sour pinata, you get a tower of sour piece that you can turn on or off to keep them from coming into your garden. You can also buy this piece from Costalot if you don't want to tame it. To keep them from messing with your pinatas, just smack them to death with your shovel.
is there any way to stop the pinata from fighting each other. My fudgehog and snakes things always KO all the other pinata.
If you just make sure not to keep too many pinatas in your garden at once, there won't normally be that many fights. In the case that you get two species together that don't get along well, I would just sell one off and keep it out of your garden until your'e done working with it's rival species.

To stop fights, you can smack each fighting pinata with the shovel once to stun them if you get over to them very early in the fight (when you hear the music but they haven't started throwing crap at each other yet).
is there any way to stop the pinata from fighting each other. My fudgehog and snakes things always KO all the other pinata.
There are some species that just don't get along. I had major issues with the Swanna & Quackberry. As soon as I had one of each they fought. I healed one and seconds later they were at each others throats. Healed again and same thing, so I sold off one of the species.

The thistle is also semi-dangerous. Don't put a lot of them in your garden. They shock the pinatas which pisses them off and makes them start fights. Just plant what you need when it comes to the thistle.

Has anyone successfully "cooled off" a fight using the watering can? It seems like the in-game tips suggest that, but I've never been able to get it to work.

Once on accident I stopped one with my watering can, but I've never been able to get it to work when actually trying to do it.
how do i get rid of my workers?
Highlight them and press "B" I believe and it will give you the option to fire them.

My garden is in total chaos. The only pinatas I've been able to romance are the Worlms, Tafflys and Sparrowthingys. I suck.
Highlight them and press "B" I believe and it will give you the option to fire them.
I think it's "X" actually - pull up the menu with "X" after highlighting them and there will be options to just dismiss them for the day or dismiss them permanently. Nothing made me happier than firing my gatherling after she kept gathering everything I bought and wanted to keep, and ignoring everything I grew and wanted to sell!

Only Worlms for me so far, and this is a great game.

Sorry I haven't played in a while. Thanks for the correction.

Ok, I just got my Bbox set up today and have been playing this game for almost the entire time I had it on....im hooked but its getting quite boring as no knew pinatas are coming in......dont know what im doing wrong. None of them have hearts and I dont know if spending money on houses will do anything...

Take care of those and new ones will come in. The hearts only show up when you're romancing two that are already residents and the house is only necessary if you want to romance them (or I think it's a requirement to get the 2nd one to come in and reside sometimes).

I'm probably five hours into it and...ehhh...maybe it was the hype surrounding the game but I'm a tad bit disappointed. People knock Rare games as big collection fests, but are looking past it here. In fact earning money is a HUGE collection fest, and frequently takes you out of the garden with menu navigation and coin-earning minigames. Going to the store or encyclopedia have brief loading times but they add up because of how frequently you have to go in and out of them. And it takes so long to make any money that I've gone days without really doing anything.

I see that I can hire workers to sell things for me, but again that costs money. Right now I have someone to water my garden but most times I have to direct her so it's just as bad as doing it myself. And I don't know if it's a bug or something I'm doing but during the day the hearts will disappear and reappear above ALL pinatas, so sometimes I can mate and sometimes I can't. It seems to change minute by minute. And it's not just a couple of pinatas that I haven't met the romancing requirements, it's ALL of them.

It would be nice if I didn't have to spend time on earning money specifically, I would have rather had some gameplay system to have you earn things based on actions and leveling. Earning money seems like a stall tactic.

I'm still going back to the game every day or so, but I can only spend about 20 min at a time before I get bored and/or frustrated with it. Please tell me it's going to get better?

Once you get the chili seeds making money is practically trivial. I just plant 30 seeds or so (3 rounds of 10, store won't let you buy more than that at once) throw 3 rounds of red fertilizer on the lot, and let them grow. 12k - costs in a couple of minutes makes money irrelevant. =)

I guess it just depends on how you play. I've never had any issues with money. Right now at level 51 I have 150k and I haven't dipped below 100k in like 30 levels.

Just sell off all the pinatas you have to spare after you're done becoming master romancer with them and money will pour in.

I just wanted to post and say I love this game.
Rare has finally gotten a game right to the point where I think It's close to a AA title. Granted it's repetitive, but it's fun as hell. Got it for XMas and was laughed at by several people calling it a "kids" game, but when I told them how fun its supposed to be they became interested themselves.

Or select them and select whatever the option is to make them stop coming. (Found that by accident one day while beating a Gatherling.)

That's the other thing I don't like about this game. So much of it is found out "by accident". It's as if the core gameplay mechanic is happenstance. Does anyone feel that the Sims, or even Animal Crossing, did this so much better?

Nope, I prefer Viva Pinata over both of those games. But they're really not the same genre, so maybe that's why your having a hard time clicking with the game?

How far into the game are you and what have you determined are the goals which you are playing towards? The core gameplay mechanic is definitely not happenstance, but some of the rarer items/pinatas must be found through experimentation.

The game tells you everything you need to know to get started. Much of the fun in the game is discovering stuff on your own though.

And if you really get frustrated trying to figure something out, check http://pinataisland.info. I used that site for some help with achievements and variants and descriptions of what Ivor Bargains items did when I really needed it.

fucking cheater.

OK guys I need some help -- and I haven't played this, so I'm really in trouble here, lol.

My wife is playing through the game non-stop and last night she runs into Dastardos (or Bastardos as she calls him). The dude kills several of her pinatas and I then saw someone cry playing a video game for the first time in my life!
Seriously, she was REALLY ticked off and upset.

Is there anything she can do to get rid of this guy? Any strategies for avoiding him?

He comes after sick Pinatas, so make sure your Pinatas are healed right after they become ill. Also, there is an item called Dastardos Scarer, which seems to work for me, it should be able to be bought at Costalot's.

When she first spots him, she needs to get over to him quick and bribe him. A couple hundred coins should do it. The downside on bribing is that he will be back and you will need to pay him more the next time and so on. Otherwise he can rumage through pillage and kill and then rebuild stuff after he's gone.

I got this game as a Christmas gift and finally got around to playing it last night. This game is consuming hour after hour of my life.

One of the coolest moments I've experienced thus far was trying to get my snake pinata (I forget the formal name) to eat one of the toads for the "romance" status. Of course, the toad kept jumping away at the sight of the snake so I had to take out the shovel and beat it until it was knocked out so the snake could eat it. It was so cool and yet so cruel.

I love this game.

I am having a hard time managing everything right now - I hit the pinata limit the other day and had to start getting rid of some. I had the frog and the snake and I was trying to keep both but the snake has to eat the frog in order to romance so I sacrificed both of my frogs to get the snakes to romance. I hope I can get the frogs back eventually. I also expanded my garden for the first time which was cool but now all the stuff I had tucked in the corner are out in the middle. Do you guys knock down pinata homes to make room for new ones? I'm having a hard time letting go of a species to make room for another.

Plus, pinatas are getting ill way more frequently and I'm spending money faster than I can earn it. There's no way I'm going to get to $25,000 anytime soon (nevermind $100,000).

How long does it take for someone to receive Items from the Post Office in the game? I sent my Nephew a few things about 3 days ago and he still hasn't received them. I also double checked my garden and yep they aren't there either. Did Xbox Live Eat my Pinatas?

I played VP a lot more over the weekend, and it's better but it still has its problems.

I hate the resource restriction on the garden. It is WAY too limiting. In my previous post, I was complaining about how my garden was unorganized and causing fights between pinatas, so I scrapped everything and rebuilt and reorganized my pinata homes one by one. I created a small fenced garden for my fruit plants, and created borders/fences around each home to separate the pinatas. I also have a nice walkway around the garden, so now everything looks nice and organized. The problem is, when I try to add some garden decorations, it says I have too much in my garden. WTF! I can see that there are too many pinatas, but if I get penalized for each plant, shrub, flower, and fence I put in, that's just stupid.

I agree the limit is the stupiest shit ever. I tried to make a pimp ass garden with everyone getting a fence and cobblestone walkways. I get just about done ( Have liek 3 houses left ) and it says I am ut of space. This makes the game very limited since I can no longer make my garden the way I want to make it. Isn't that a big part of the game?

Under 5 minutes. I was on Live with a friend and we were both in VP. I sent him something and it took around 3-5 minutes for him to get it.

So Something is wrong then. I'm gonna send a complaint to MS or Rare if the pinata don't show up somewhere soon lol.

Sometimes it doesnt even tell you you have mail. Have him check with the mail lady and there's an option in there to check incoming mail.
