Viva Piñata - General Discussion & Piñata Trading - Demo Out Now

I just got this game and it is awesome. SO far I have had one garden upgrade and about 8ish Achievements(for nerdpoints, not the ones in game) unlocked. This is lots of fun. I found it really funny to read the start of the thread and see all the people bitching and berating the game. Silly. Anyway, if anyone wants to donate some coins to me, I would be grateful.
It will take a while to get all the achievements(there is a 50 hour achievement). And I feel the same way about getting all of them, as it is not impossible to get them, unlike just about every other game. I currently have 39/50 achievements, so it doesn't feel to hopeless.
I think Viva Pinata might have the best paced achievements of any game I have played yet (at least as good as Dead Rising). They are well varied, take all different amounts of time and effort and none are over the top difficult.

On a side note, I recently got a copy of Burnout Revenge and while the game is great, I think it has the worst achievements I've ever seen. You pretty much can't unlock anything unless you beat the entire game and beat every level with 5 stars. That is retarded.

I just picked this up because Linkin gave it a crazy good review the last time we talked and my wife and I are addicted. This is one of the best games of the year.

We were both blown away with how deep it is and with all the branching paths and breeding is there any guides out yet? I looked on amazon and ebay and found nothing. I did find a cool Wiki site but it was a little sparse. Any suggestions?

I guess I am one of the few who is not blown away by this game.....it just seems like a lot of work. I guess I never liked the SIMS or games like that. I could see myself getting into the game over time, but I don't have that much time to invest in Pinata's ;)

I agree. Viva's are a bit easier than Dead Rising's but I have to admit both game's style of getting Achievements is my favorite. Having them all be worth the same is a master stroke. None seem impossible to get, just a lot of time and dedication. I think it just adds more replay value than simply having a bulk of points go towards a hard mode in other games, or impossible/frustrating online achievements.

I picked this game up last week and I'm hooked. Just reached level 45 last night. Still can't get enough. I was never into the Sims but I always enjoyed Sim City and Populous. I spent about 10 hours in the game this weeked. Master Romanced all 10 Flutter species. That took about 4 hours alone. Just master romanced the Sweettooth, Dragumfly, Araknoid, Lickatoad, Lackatoad, and Pretztails last night.

I have the bear, elephant and lion roaming about outside the garden. They haven't wandered in yet. For now I'm working on making the Swanna a resident. I have the requirements, but it hasn't shown back up yet.

My wife is a total non-gamer but I have tried many times to get her into games. Only two times have I ever succeeded. First time was with New Mario Bros. This second time is totally thanks to Viva Pinata. You know you've hooked someone on something when they walk around singing the theme song all day.

...filled with fun!

Glad my views on the game impacted in positive sales, even though it was hard as hell to describe this game. I thought for sure you guys thought I was crazy or on drugs when I was talking about it.

I was shocked how there were no guides for this either. The only sites I've found is pinataisland.info and vivapintaforum.com which you have probobly already ran into.

When we went into EB and asked, the douche behind the counter laughed and said "wow, you're stuck on a kids game? Ask me a question maybe i can help"

so i kicked over the magazine rack and yelled "I'm SONIC THE FUDGEHOG, BITCH!"

I'm sure you're kidding but man, that would have been awesome.
Strategy guide needs to come packed in with the game. What kid they make this for, Bobby Fisher?
When you really think about it, getting to max level, being a master horticulturalist/breeder is all advanced stuff but is really up to you as a player. I am at a pretty high level but most of the stuff I did to get to such a high level was pretty boring. I have more fun landscaping my garden. I could live with just Sparrowmints in my garden. I think that's where kids will find the fun.

This game is not for kids. It is for getting your spouse addicted to a video game so she doesn't give you as much shit for playing video games all the time.

I dont understand how you are supposed to have aggro pinatas like the fudgehogs and the foxes, while keeping the garden peaceful with whirlms and just about anything else. any tips?

I couldn't figure out a way to get them to co-exsist. My wife smashes any fudgehogs that appear remotely in her garden because they constantly fought with her pretztails.

We name all of the pinatas funny names, mostly of celebrities from whatever issue of the current gossip rag is sitting on our coffee table. Twas a sad day when Whirlm Lindsay was beaten down by Whirlm K-fed, only to turn around and have him eaten by Sparrowmint Tara Reid.

I broke that tradition when i saw the fudgehog, I knew his name was Sonic from the first moment he walked into my garden. for some reason Sonic the fudgehog got mixed into "i'm the juggernaught, bitch" and now everytime we see him we yell "I'm Sonic the Fudgehog, BITCH!"

Every once and awhile I'll name a whirm the same name as my boss' name and then beat him to death with my shovel. damn, i love this game...

From what I gathered while playing, certain species can't co-exist in the same garden. For instance (i forget the official names) the bees and ants, fudgehogs and pretztails + others. There have been some reports about building fences to force the pinatas away from others but I've never tried it.

I've had one blue Pretztail and atleast 2 Fudgehogs living in my garden for awhile. My pretztail doesn't have a house, but my Fudgehogs do, and they never get into a fight with my Pretztail. Maybe the house does something, I'm not really sure.

And to Corvin, I approached the game in a totally different way, I go after the species first, then I will worry about the romancing and whatnot. I have an Elephanilla, Fizzlybear, and a Pigxie at only level 42.

Edit: Woops, I wasn't level 42, I was level 45, I forget I got to level 45 .

When that happens do some species go extinct because of space and/or fighting? I guess what I'm asking is; If you have the elephant and other high level creatures are you still managing flys and worms in addition to building/maintaining everything else? Or does your garden only have certain creatures once you move to the top of the food chain?

When you are a higher level with higher level Pinatas, you can still get the smaller pinatas. I have three gardens; my beginning garden, seconds garden, and a Chewnicorn garden. My beginning garden has all low level pinatas except for a few. Then in my second garden I have rarer pinatas-- a Fizzlybear, Elephanilla, Pigxie, Twingersnap, and a Fourheads. Though I have rarer pinatas, I still have Whirlms and Mothdrops. I just keep 2 Whirlms, so I don't keep getting resident ones, and I don't have many flowers, so I don't have Tafflies. However, they will still visit, so to answer your question, as you move up the food chain, you can still have lower pinatas, but only if you want. I don't bother to meet their needs for them to join because they just take up space, and I get any pinatas I need from the hunter, so I can still get whatever low pinata I want.

On another note, I got to level 47, and got my Chewnicorn garden with 5 Chewnicorns now \\:D/. I gained a whole level by just becoming a Chewnicorn Romancer  .

Nice. Hook it up with a chewnicorn ;)

As for figuring out which pinatas cannot co-exist with each other check out:

http://pinataisland.info/index.php?title=Main_Page

They have a food chain of sorts. I haven't paid much attention to it yet, but it could come in handy for those always having fights.

Mr. Cheapo - cool. I hit level 48 last night. Most of my garden is now water to attract those type pinatas, so I won't see the Elephant, Lion, or Bear for a while even though they are roaming in the outskirts.

Picked it up through the MS retail site because I was mostly on the fence about it. I didn't think I would like it very much, but I still wanted to give it a shot. I think I played for 5-6 hours and didn't even get up the first time I threw it in. The game is definitely worth the $30 this weekend. =P

My wife and i play this game all the time. Stressful at first, but it gets easier once you get a hang of it. Man is it fun trying to get all the different species and making the garden look whatever you want it to look like.
For those on the fence about this game according to another CAG this game will be priced at $29.99 this Thursday-Saturday at Best Buy

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120771
For $25, I'm getting it. My little sister has been wanting it since I showed her a video a few months ago. Would be a really good Christmas present and I would like to play it also. Hopefully it's real and nationwide.

I named my RedHott's after Doritos. I had:

Spicy Habenero
Blazin' Buffazo
Jalapeno Cheddar
Nice. Hook it up with a chewnicorn ;)
Now I am level 49, thanks to being a Chewnicorn master romancer, and hatching a Dragonache \\:D/
damnit, i just bought it. guess i will go return it and buy it again.

are they gonna give me any guff for returning it knowing its currently on sale?
any chance of a price adjustment?
Holiday shopping is now done unless I decide to get something small for my dad in addition to everything else.

I REALLY enjoyed playing Kameo: Elements of Power, of course that is only $20 used, so could you get Perfect Dark Zero with it? Of course, that still would only be $40. I also liked Saints Row, which is $50 used. Or maybe Kameo and Oblivion used, Kameo is $20 and Oblivion is $35, so it would be $55, that is if you can trade it in for 2 games.

I FINALLY got my copy from Family Video (Paid $38.xx). I wish I would have known about this sale before I ordered, but after taxes I only paid about $5-6 more. I played it for about an hour today and it seems very fun. I can see it getting complicated soon though.

Wow this game is addicting, I've been playing for 2 hours and didn't even realise it.

My garden is getting pretty packed, when do you get an expansion?

Been playing this game for about 3 hours, its great! I've still gotta get used to some stuff but the game is a lot of fun (i feel kinda sorry for some of the pinatas that are being eaten, but then i see them explode and candy fly everywhere and i crack a smile). For $25 after GGC, this is a must buy. Or if you have a Rhino and a Kmart around you, you can get this game for $8

I'll wait until I can get it a little cheaper, I rented it and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time, but when it hits the $15-$20 range ill pick it up.

At level 11 and 21. Your garden will never even be close to big enough for everything and everyone though. Personally I sell most things once I get all the awards/achievements for them. If you aren't the kind of person who can bear to let go of your stuff, you should just make like 10 gardens that hold different things. You keep your money/levels/abilities between all your gardens and you can send packages back and forth between them as well.

Ohhh Ok.

I'm going to be honest, I feel a bit overwhelmed in the game. I feel like I'm doing something wrong when I can't control everything, but I'm guessing that is how things are played.
