Any CAGers around here? Really disappointed as the scene pales in comparison to Boston's video gaming scene. Any suggestions or local mom and pop shops? The Maryland-Virginia-DC area seems to be pretty weak.

Nice Mana!

Anyone hear about Atlas Arcade in DC? Just opened at 1236 H Street NE last week. Basically a bar with an arcade and 8-bit consoles. Sounds like it might be worth checking out sometime!

Yes! It's pretty close to where I live, and I've been there a couple of times. Despite the 80's theme, they seem open to games that are a bit more modern (e.g. Magic Sword, Big Buck Hunter). The downside is that it's kind of a small space, but so far it hasn't been too crowded. The bar upstairs (Church and State) is owned by the same person, so perhaps if business isn't so hot there, they could expand it to 2 floors. ;)

Hey everyone,

I am new to CAG but have been playing vids since childhood. I love playing RPG's and FPS games. I just got a vita and I really like it a lot. I also have a PS3 and a 360. I will be checking in time to time into this forum (really cool). Just wanted to say hi to my fellow DC natives :)
Welcome back. Norfolk sucks, but you made it through. We'll have to have another meet-up soon, but closer to Annapolis!
It's not like I hated the area, but I missed a lot of people here, plus my job was.......

To let everyone know, I will plan on a DuClaw meet-up at Arundel Mills in September or October. People can let me know what works out for them.

I could even hold a meet-up on my birthday weekend (my birthday is Sept. 4th)......

It would probably be beneficial to do it the weekend after your actual birth date, as the previous weekend is Labor Day weekend.

As for Atlas Arcade, it might be okay to have a meetup there. The venue is on the small side, but I've never seen it that packed and could accommodate us. However, they are only open from 6pm to midnight/2am, so it would have to be in the evening.
Anyone going to Otakon this weekend? I sure am.
I was invited to go, but I can't justify $80. I'm just not into anime much anymore.

On a side note, I was downtown for the game last night and saw Ice Cold Water guy. He's getting ready!

I wanted to give everyone in the area a heads up about Interventioncon. It is a convention in which Internet meets Convention. It's going to be held in Rockville, MD from September 21st - 23rd. I would like to make it a nice CAG meet up if I could. It is $40 for the entire weekend. I have met the individuals putting on the convention, and think it would be fun. Check out the link below, and let me know if you all are interested in going for the weekend, or maybe just meeting up on Saturday. :)

seems interesting to say the least, I can't be too certain I'll be free considering i have Studies and such. But as the date closely approaches I'll be sure to know.

Closer to Annapolis means it would be closer to me too but Arundel Mills isn't that far from Annapolis. Anywho, a meet-up is in order.

@Gnitro I will probably attend Intervention. Are you still treating us all to lunch?

@Manaknight Welcome back

Since you're new you'll want to do 3 things.
1. Listen to the Geek Effect Podcast
2. Listen to the GameEnthus Podcast
3. Subscribe to this forum thread so you don't miss out on DMV area meet-ups.

I'd be available like mid sept and after for an Arundel Mills meetup. I hope the casino doesn't cause the parking to be much worse than it used to be...

Sup, guys? A guy from Western MD here (Hagerstown). Mana, I actually went to Otakon and despite it being rather uneventful this year, I had a lot of fun. I save a lot of my tax returns for the crazy Otakon rate and hotel room, etc.

I'll be starting my Junior year of College at a transfer university in Rockville (Universities of Shady Grove, for University of Baltimore) so I'll be closer to DC during the week, so I'm open to any potential events or get togethers if it fits with my current budget and university/work schedule.

Hey, welcome to the thread. Love the avatar. :D

I have been to Hagerstown before going to a few places. I occasionally go to Rockville/Montgomery county area, but I mostly stick around Baltimore (where I live).

Like you, I spend tons at Otakon. Probably spent $1000 this year in Dealers.

Now that I got my ID changed back to Maryland, I guess it's time I start pre-registering for cons. I'm going to register for Anime USA (in DC), Nekocon (Hampton, VA), probably MAGFest, and I'll look into Intervention.
Just thought I'd say hello. I live in Odenton, not too far from Arundel Mills actually.
I know Odenton ALL too well. A few of my old co-workers lived there and I use to go to places around that area. I use to live really close to Arundel Mills, but that was back when I lived in Howard County (near the tip of Anne Arundel County). I haven't been to Odenton area since I moved back to the area, but I might sometime this month. I'm in Baltimore County now.

When looking at the calendar ahead, these are the weekends we can try DuClaw at Arundel Mills...
September 8th
September 15th
September 29th
October 6th (I might be out of town this weekend),
October 13th
October 20th

Personally, I'd lean towards the 15th, 29th (might be the best), or the 13th. I took out the weekend Intervention Convention happens so nothing conflicts.

I don't know of anything I have in Oct. For Sept, I don't remember. My wife decides all that. I always try to attend anyway.

I live about 5 minutes away from Arundel Mills. I would love to come and join in on the meet up if you guys wouldn't mind another in the group.

Have you guys decided on a date yet?
October 6th no longer works for me. I think I'll put October 13th down as the date for me. We can change it if something comes up.
As of now, I think Oct 13th is good for me as well.
Whats with all these dates? I'm confused. 0.o
We're just trying to decide on a date for a CAG get together. Feel free to add your input!

Boo, I'd like to go. But I'll be doing my extralife marathon on the 13th (Had to move it up a week so a friend could participate)

Have fun everyone :)
