What Famous People/Celebs/Pro Sport Players have you met?

I hung out with the band Candlebox, partied with Jimi Haha of Jimmie's Chicken Shack, a lot of wrestlers - Brian Pillman, Jimmy Wang Yang, Konnan, Teddy Long, Kanyon, Raven. And best of all

I met Robert Plant of Led Zep at Peg Leg Petes seafood resturant here in Pensacola at the bar.

I grew up down the street from Jimmy Hart (Mouth of the South).

I've had more run ins with Jerry Lawler than I can count. I played touch football with him once when I was 5 (he was hanging out at Jimmy Hart's house), and when I worked at the mall in high school he came into my store a lot. Most recently, I saw him at work on the otherside of my cube wall when he came to visit a co-worker who is a friend of his.

Seems like a really decent guy.

That I've actually met ... Quentin Tarantino, Marisa Tomei, Katie Holmes, Kevin Smith, Tony Danza, Ted Nugent, Don McLean, CeCe Devil, all the members of Poison and Cinderella, Dan Quayle, and a bunch of sports people.

Bruce Campbell -Book signing and movie showing
George Romero - movie showing
Mariano Rivera -played for the Columbus Clippers(Yankees triple AAA team)
Derek Jeter - see above(it sucked because I'm a Red Sox fan but they were pretty cool)
Jorge Posada - above(probably met other former or current Yankees when they played for them also)
Bucky Dent(yikes!)
Mick Foley(pro wrestler) - book signing

who was hayden in kh? and dude youve got to tell me about morgan webb whats she like? kinda curious if adam is as odd a creepy as he seems........

My high school marketing teacher was friends with Charles Barkley, so he came in to speak to our class.

I met Bruce Campbell at a book signing of his first book. He signed my copy "Stay Groovy" and my g/f and I got a picture with him.

I met comic artists Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother & Sandman) & Mike Kunkel (Herobear and the Kid) at a signing.

Finally, I ran into Robin Wilson (Lead singer of the Gin Blossoms) at a GameStop once.

Hayden played Kairi in both games.

Morgan's pretty stand-offish until she gets to know you better. No, she doesn't play as many games as she'd like you to believe but, that's because she just has a ton of interests. We used to go to a coworkers' anime night were they played FLCL & Kare Kano.

Adam's definitely not as creppy as he seems. He's a big fan of platformers & FPSs, and is a movie nut (he introduced me to Takeshi Miike way back). We bonded over our mutual fondness for techno.

yeah i always figured morgans whole gamer girl image was kinda bogus she seems more into computers but i guess they figured guys would get wet over her enough if she played it up. good to know about adam too hes always shootin off those ive got kids locked in my cellar vibes on tv again i guess they always want him to play that kind of stuff up.

another question since you said you worked there was it before or after the switch from tech tv to g4 and if so what was all that like from the perspective of someone who worked there? was it as bad as it seemed or did the change over go smoothly with everyone? also did you actually work on any of the shows?

I don't want to say too much but I will say that being part of the organization through its incarnations as ZDTV - TechTV - G4 was a memorable experience, and built the foundation for my gaming media career. As an organization intended to cover the tech industry during the dot-com boom and crash, we were swept along in our own way. The height of our excess IMO was when we had our 2000 x-mas party held at The Fillmore. We were even given our own 'concert' posters: http://www.musicman.com/0coo/647tech.html

It was a fun time during the ZDTV - TechTV changeover since we still shared the same offices as Gamespot, so we got to hang out with the GS team ages before the Gertzmann debacle. Just imagine what that pre-corporate work atmosphere must've been like.

On a side note, this was also in the same building as Sega USA, which made it that much easier for us to do coverage for that company. We were also invited to their annual on-site fire sale in 2001 where new Dreamcasts were $35, and 1st party sealed DC games were $2 each, not to mention a TON of other items (like disc-only mint copies of Shining Force III for $1).

Back to TechTV, it was a shame Paul Allen gave up on TechTV a few months before it was scheduled to turn a profit. This was a cable network with a television staff that had 'cool' San Francisco cred and little Los Angeles-aspirations, which is why not many came along during the G4 changeover.

damn lucky fuckin guy. teach tv did seem like a fun plce to be and work at didnt care too much for some of the changes they made and the way it was done although some of the new shows they added were cool and some had promise with some tweaking but it really sucked to see many of the old shows go as well as the hosts of said shows.

i know most pc guys could care less about consoles and vice versa for console gamers but an even marriage of the 2 would have made for a great channel and it would have stood out more now the channel is pretty much one of those generic "guy" channels.btw thanks for sharing your experiences you had there here. its always cool to see things from that perspective.

Zack Efferon
At the WV state fair
In a bathroom.

I had no idea who he was at the time, but after seeing a crowd of girls outside the bathrooms, and who was playing in the amphitheater that day i realized who he was
lol

I met Weird Al just walking around the local mall about 12 years ago. He had a show that night nearby, so he was out and about with his entourage (this was still the hawaiian shirt era) so seeing three guys dressed like that was obvious. Oddly enough, nobody took notice until I walked up, got an autograph and shook his hand. After that the people started flocking to him.

The following year, I finally got to meet Anthrax, something I had wanted to do for some time. Scott Ian was in idol of mine up until that point, until I realized he was a stuck-up prick. John Bush (the new post-Belladonna vocalist at the time) was really awesome, as was Charlie Benante.

I almost got the chance to hang out with The Smashing Pumpkins, back when they were still good. They were scheduled to do a signing appearance at my dad's old record shop, and a week prior the infamous Jimmy Chamberlain heroin OD thing happened. One of the fill-in tour keyboardists ended up dying as a result and Jimmy was kicked out of the band soon after, ultimately leading to the demise of the Smashing Pumpkins.

I met all the members of Barenaked Ladies (including Steven Page) at at CD signing/performance at Borders. They were promoting their children's CD at the time. I think I was one of the only people there without a kid in tow.

They were super cool, though. Border's policy is that you have to buy a copy of whatever the artist is promoting and have only that signed. I snuck in a copy of Barenaked Ladies Are Me, one of my favorite albums ever, to get signed instead. I was promptly stopped right before I met the band by a lady that worked for Borders, and told that I could only have the new CD signed. Boourns, so I handed my CD to my girlfriend at the time, and proceded to get my new one signed.

When they were doing the signing, I was totally speechless. I mean, these were the guys who made the music that helped me through the hardest parts of my teenage years, and they were right in front of me, in flesh and blood. Once I reached the end of the line and came out of my coma, I noticed I had two signed CDs. Apparently, Ed Robertson, singer/guitarist in the band, noticed my dejected manner when the Border's Bitch told me I couldn't have my other CD signed. He looked at my girlfriend and said "Do you want me to sign that?" in the friendliest way possible. They passed it down the line and each signed their names.

Long story short, cool dudes, signed my CD when they didn't have to.

Oh, I totally forgot one! When I worked for a data entry company a few years ago, my team's manager was Tom Arnold's brother. One day, I guess Tom was visiting, and he came into the office with his brother. I took an obvious walk past his office, blatently looking inside. My manager invited me in and I got to shake hands with Tom Arnold.

I work for a minor league baseball team and for a promotion we had Jerry Mathers (Leave it to Beaver) come in and sign autographs. Never watching the show, I had no idea what he even looked like. I stepped into an elevator and we starting having a conversation about how the team was this year, not knowing it was him, until he got out and my manager told me that he was Jerry.
Hmmm thats quite a few FSU players....
Met them while a student at FSU. I have met quite a lot of players on multiple sports there.

Lots of Knicks and Yankees players:

Willis Reed (met him at a Nets game and had a chat with him)
John Starks (was related to one of my friends)
Allan Houston (went to the church of my friend)
Patrick Ewing (daughter was in the same gymnastics class as my friend and he came to our class)
Derek Jeter
Jimmy Key

Juwan Howard: I saw him in the airport before my flight to Chicago. I knew who he was and asked for an autograph but he brushed me off. He got on the same flight as me and I sat a few seats behind him onthe plane. The pilot came up to him and greeted him as Tim Duncan. Juwan Howard got pissed and the pilot says "Figures, Duncan probably has his own private plane."

DMX: His niece or someone went to our school and he pulled upto our school in a limo. Everyone ran to the limo because we had heard rumors that DMX was related to someone and he was seen in town. We ran up to the limo and he got out of his car and started shouting and cussing at everyone before flipping us all off. His niece got in the car and then he left.

The entire Giants team from 2001: My english teacher was dating a player on the Giants and she got the entire team to come to our school for field day. We played flag football against the giants. I was a Jets fan so I didn't care much.

Nick Van Excel: Same english teacher invited him to class (she knew him because the Giants player's agent was Van Excels agent as well).

A bunch of Indian actors and actresses

Eddie Murphy: Well, I never met him, but I used to go to his house for trick or treat every Halloween. He gave out the best candy. Usually one of those king size Crunch bars or a bag of "fun size" candy for each person.

Melinda Gates- She came to my HS along with others from the Gates Foundation to present us with a check due to our school doing well in something.

Several local musicians
Sean Penn and Robin Penn

Hulk Hogan-when i was a kid at the airport
Rick Rude-Bar

Slaughter(rock group)-at the mall
Several Carolina Panthers Players
thats all my old brain can think of at the moment

want to meet Mike Rowe though...Love that dirty jobs!!!

I met Reggie Lewis and Ed Pinckney when they were both with the Celtics. (Reggie died about a year later at 27 during a practice) I also got to meet Red Auerbach once. Oh yeah, and I met Lee Smith when he was the closer for the Red Sox.

Although I live in Massachusetts, I'm a lifelong diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and I've met a few Steelers as well. In '93, my wife (who was just my girlfriend at the time) and I took a trip to the Steel City to see them play, and we snuck into Three Rivers Stadium a day or two before the game and watched the team practice. Eventually, a security guard noticed us sitting in the seats and escorted us out (it wasn't supposed to be open to the public), but we hung around outside and got to chat with a few of the players as they were leaving. I remember Greg Lloyd, Rod Woodson, and Kevin Greene were all pretty cool. I also met Jack Ham, the Hall of Fame linebacker from the 70's at a card show.

As far as non-sports famous people go, I've met the authors Stephen King and Anne Rice, and the actor Greg Evigan (B.J. and the Bear, My Two Dads)
Ohh I just remembered ... I went to Mario Lemieux's house and met his parents. They even invited my family in for tea.
thats awesome. :bouncy:

Larry Bird. He lived a couple houses down from me for years, so it was never really a big deal to talk to him. It wasn't like "oooh famous athlete", but more like "hey, neighbor".

Back in the day, I used to go to Wizard World in Chicago and I met a few celebs there:

-Wayne Static (from Static-X)
-Jason Mewes (Jay, of Jay & Silent Bob)
-Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk)
-Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)
-Ken Penders (Original Artist/Writer of the Sonic The Hedgehog comics. Got him to sign my Sonic #50 Director's Cut Issue! :D )

I also used to get amazing seats to Chicago Cubs games back in the day (thanks to my Dad getting the hook-up through business partners) and I randomly met the drummer from Hootie and the Blowfish.

Probably the coolest person I've met would have to be Tom Morello.
My friends and I went to the Rage Against The Machine concert here in Osaka last year and afterwards we went to a music bar where Tom just happened to be bartending.
We got to talk to him for a bit and I found out he grew up really close to my hometown! (I grew up in McHenry, IL - he was in Libertyville)

Here's a pic:

FEAR MY GLOWING RED EYES OF DOOM!

Cole Hamels - Last year when the Phils were visiting Turner Field, I got his autograph and I told him I wished he were pitching a game in the series. I got a smile and a chuckle out of him.

And my MMA coach is Paul Creighton - http://www.paulcreighton.com
He trained under Renzo Gracie, fought in UFC 37 against BJ Penn, and his old buddy and training partner back then was Matt Serra. Matt's come into our gym a couple of times to give us a lesson. He's a good guy. Not really like the douchebag persona he gives off on TV.

Jeff George - back when he was QB of the Falcons, he came into the supermarket I worked at. I had several of my coworkers come up to me to let me know that George was in the store. When I went on break, I got something to eat and was standing in line to buy it. The girl at the register also told me that George was in the store. Getting annoyed with being told the same thing over and over again, and not being a Falcons fan, I told her I didn't care and that I thought Jeff George sucked. I got a tap on the shoulder and to my horror, he was standing right behind me. He told me, "Thanks, kid." I got my food, and got the fuck out of Dodge. I was a little embarrassed then, but am now quite proud to have inadvertantly told Jeff George that he sucks.

Mike Tyson a few times.
Many WCW guys including Goldberg.
Olsen twins at Six Flags.

Probably the coolest was Stephen R. Covey. Twice. Once some friends and I went singing to patients in the hospital, we walked into one lady's room who invited us in and we start talking to her. I turn around and notice that Stephen Covey is sitting in a chair behind the door smiling. It was his wife in that room!

So, uhh...these celebs nice people? :D I dont think I've ever met a Celeb in my life. I have missed quite a few encounters though. James Franco(filming milk), David Beckham (promoting undies ad at macy's), Robert Pattinson (auothgraph signing). I did not find out about all of these until it was too late. arrrgh

Oh yeah, I also met Britney Spears, Rosie O Donnell, and Reverend Run at Garden State Plaza mall (on different occasions). I also think I saw Reverend Run and his sons at Palisades Center Mall, but I am not sure if that was him or not.

I also think I saw some famous Korean pop star at Garden State Plaza mall, but I am not sure. A few Korean people were pointing at her and taking pictures, but I am not sure who that person was.

Keanue Reeves at El Mercado restaurant, across the street from my childhood house. Minus the Bear played a private show for about 10 people including my friend and I, then came and talked to everybody afterwards. Cool guys.

Ian McKaye also gave a open discussion thing at a local university. It was really cool, and he signed my Minor Threat shirt. Sadly, I have lost the shirt since. :whistle2:(

I met Manny Ramirez and Mark Loretta at a sox game once. I was down on the field before the game and they were giving autographs. It was intense.

would like to meet Keanu Reaves

I had dinner with Jack Thompson and Gerard Jones a few months ago. I've met a few somewhat known comedians like Buzz Sutherland, my friends and I helped him find his car. I almost met the band Anberlin, but my friends car broke down and we missed it, there's always next year though.

Your Jeff George story reminds me of a story involving my ex-roommate. He was working as a cashier at an Exxon gas station here in Austin about four years ago. One day a guy came into the store and asked my roommate to be as quick as possible since he was running late for the Dennis Quaid Charity Golf Tournament. My roommate's response was "Who the hell is Dennis Quaid?". Of course the guy in the store replied, "I am." My roommate had no idea who he was, and said Dennis Quaid looked dejected afterwards. Funny stuff.
