What is the pride and joy of your video game collection?
not really anything rare but i have the original nes that was bought as a christmas present for me back in kindergarten at a time when my parents weren't exactly living large. my name is written on top of it in red permanent marker. it's sloppy though, because i wrote it when i first learned how to write my name.

i actually don't possess the system at the moment... my parents have it in their "museum" case with the rest of our memorable family artifacts.
Wow, the hard times didn't last long, did they? I meant to put my Dreamcast as well. The Dreamcast marks the first time that my dad has really went all out and bought us something nice. I play the dreamcast quite often and have tons of games for it, and it sits next to my TV. I'll never get rid of it just because of the personal value it has to me.

Plus tons of promo materials I've gotten free from my job, lots of standees including Samus from Metroid Prime and Master Chief from Halo 2, and ESPECIALLY my official Xbox Live neon sign.

Would you consider getting rid of some stands? I mean, I'm not going to ask for Samus or Master Chief, i'd never take away something that you love, but do you have any that you just don't care for anymore or don't have room for or will give away in the future? I'd love to buy some from you for a reasonable amount (considering you got them for free).

My "rarest" thing would have to be a tie between my Halo Green Xbox, and my Samba de Amigo Maracas (official Sega ones, with the original box). My most precious thing isn't rare at all. My GameCube. It's the first console I bought by myself, waited in line for, and even though I have all 3 now... it still has the most games for it. I LOVE YOU GCN!!!

I don't think I really have anything like that, but I guess most people would look at my collection and immediately say that it's my import PSX edition of Policenauts (original print, not PlayStation Best) signed by Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to play the game because it's all in Japanese so it doesn't hold as dear a sentimental value as it ought to. But no, I'm not selling it. :p

Sorry, but I'm a collector, so I keep all the standees I can get. But if you want promo materials from a game store, here's some advice.

Basically, if you see something you want, just ask the employees (it's more effective if you can talk to the manager). They can say either two things: yes or no. If you're a regular customer or are being courteous, they could take down your name and number so when they are done using the materials, they could get a hold of you so you can pick it up.

But this doesn't always work. They might contact you, or they might not. Maybe an employee wants it. Maybe the manager wants to get rid of it (especially if it's a large standee) as soon as they are told to get rid of it, and doesn't want to hold it for a person who may or may not show up.

Those are just a few of the scenerios I've seen taken place at my game store. It just depends on the people who work there. Don't try this at places like TRU or anything like that, go to EB, Gamestop, Game Crazy etc. Also, reserving something in exchange might also sweeten the deal, since us game store employees are always wanting reservations so corporate doesn't get on our ass.

Anyways, those are just some tips. Just don't go to a store with employees like me who like to hoard promo crap, hehe.

I don't have many (or really any) rare games, but the pride of my collection would have to be

Set of wireless Atari 2600 joysticks. Official product from Atari that look just like the official sticks but have a bigger base (for the battery and wireless stuff I guess) and a big beefy antenna sticking out. Got them for $5 at a yard sale along with a 2600, a dozen games, and a bunch of other controllers. I don't think they are terribly rare, but they look damn cool. (I priced them and someone was selling them brand new on eBay for something like $30 shipped.)

A Mattel aquarius system which still works-a couple of very old school carts.
and
Valkyrie Profile-Persona 2-Einhander-Ring of Red-Castlevania: SOTN-A -Tactics Ogre 64-psone/screen combo i got for under $45-The ff8 boxed set which was only released in Europe. Theres some other stuff-just dont remember.

For me, it is my SSX collection that I have mastered for the PS2 along with my GTAs.

For the SNES, it was the Street Fighter game that I also mastered along with Metroid

For the NES, the NES had so many great games, it was Metal Gear, Mega Mans, and Zelda along with Bionic Commando and Blaster Master

My snes games I guess, chrono trigger, megaman x1, x2 and x3, megaman 7, megaman soccer, earthbound, super mario rpg and secret of mana.
Yesterday....Valkyrie Profile....New....Sealed....FACTORY SEALED from EBgames....amazing.....Some guy traded it in still sealed....$41.43...
I hate you

For me it has to be Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega saturn and my Sega mster system 3d glasses in mint (never open) :).
For me it has to be the Vlakyrie "HOly Grail" Profile that I found used and complete at a EB. I only paid for it $40 dollars after Edge card, so it wasn't too bad when you compare it to how much it goes on ebay, etc. It is the only time that I have ever seen a copy for that matter. I was so happy at the time and still am. Only wish, like any CAGer out there, that I could have gotten a little cheaper since 2 days later came the 30% off coupon for in-store. Ahh, oh well still I'm happy, it's an awesome game, and it's super hard/rare to find and to find it for a good price.

Edit: I think I'll also add Marvel versus Capcom 2 to my list. I absolutely love it and am proud tha I picked one up of it.
$40? Guess what - I got it at a Target clearance soon after it was released for only $4.98.

Suikoden 2 mint and complete
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete sealed
Lunar 2 mint and complete
Valkyrie Profile near mint and complete

What a cool thread! I have a lot of stuff that I cherish, but nothing too rare. What stinks is that a lot of stuff I had and got rid of. For instance, snatcher for Sega CD, Guardian Heroes for Saturn (import), chrono trigger and ff6 for Snes. Those were great games.

I'd have to say it's my PSX collection of Final Fantasy games or my collection of game soundtracks, many of which I got of the 'net and made custom covers for.

In general, I love my game room. I have all kind of memorabilia including games, standees, displays, bobbleheads, CD's, import toys, domestic toys, strategy guides, and so on.

Hmmm....

I'm gonna have to say the gem is my copy of Final Fantasy Adventure for the Gameboy, complete with box and manual. Good times. Well, either that or Bill Laimbeer's Contact Basketball for SNES, only because it was one of the 5 best "horrible games we'd play to pass the time" from my youth.

My toploading NES

two of my nes games stand out to me too,
Bonks Adventure and
Teenage mutant ninja turtles tournament fighters

Suikoden 2 and Warcraft 2, and Megaman 2.
All games that followed up another, all that are considered my favorite games of all time.

Final Fantasy X International version (Korean) gift from my girlfriend. If I ever sold all my gaming stuff this is the one thing I would NEVER sell

Definately my sega saturn collection, but too bad the games will probably melt eventually.

Panzer Dragoon RPG
Dragon Force
Shining Force 3
Arc the Lad

A few other RPG's
My complete snes rpgs, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III and Secret of Mana and probably eve more so my complete collection of the nes Dragon Warrior games I-IV
I had all four Dragon Warriors too at one point in my life, but I traded them all in for money to spend on a ps1, dayam miss them so much!

To stay on topic, Lunar 1, 2 and Arc the Lad Collection. I will play them one day too!

My Dreamcast Collection:

138 games w/ cases and manuals
6 controllers
4 vmu's
4 Tremor Paks
2 light guns
2 steering wheels
flight stick
fishing rod
VGA Box
Gameshark CDX

If you have anything I don't, let me know. I might want to trade.

The Dreamcast was the best system EVER!
I would have to say Earthbound, which I bought when it was released. Unfortunately I don't have the box and guide anymore.
I got the game from Caladors when they were going out of business. It was $10 marked down from $70, box is mint except for the price sticker. I made the big mistake of lending it to my friend and he lost the guide. Luckly, I was able to find it on ebay near mint. Love the game, my pride and joy.

Probably my Valkyrie Profile off of ebay. Case is so-so but I can swap it with one off a better looking game, the discs and manual are great though.

I'd say Dragon Force because I bought it way back in the day from my best friend for $10. A close second would be Suikoden 2 despite it being disc and manual only.

This thread should be revived.

The coolest thing in my gaming collection is a sealed copy of Dragon Warrior for NES. Not only is having a sealed NES game rare enough, but that game has extreme sentimental value for me.

Well, I already mentioned some rare things...

Otherwise, I have (all complete, mostly mint):
Akumajou Dracula (Famicom Disk System)
Akumajou Dracula (MSX 2.0 Cartridge)
Akumajou Dracula: Gekka no Yasukyouku (SotN Saturn Import)
Samba de Amigo Sega Brand Maracas (2 Sets)
Vib-Ribbon
Final Fantasy XI beta version (US PS2 - 2 Copies)
Final Fantasy XI beta version (US Windows)
Final Fantasy Wonderswan Collector's Set
Final Fantasy II Wonderswan Collector's Set
Final Fantasy I-VI Complete (Famicom, Super Famicom)
Castlevania Adventure
Castlevania Adventure II
Castlevania Legends
Metal Gear Solid GBA

Not rare, but hella fun: King of Colosseum II (recent PS2 import Wrestling title; I find the game engine to be far superior to any wrestling game not called Fire Pro)

And, I have a good friend at school whose wife is going to pick up a PSP for me (and charge me the cost plus shipping only). Her brother works for Sony, so if I'm lucky (and I'm not holding my breath), she may be able to get it for a discount. Rare? No? A holy grail? Only until March 15 or so.

Now, is there any indication that the first two GBA Castlevania Games are beginning to get 'rare' status (not that they are rare, but they are in demand)?

myke.

Nice! Did that come with any games? For some reason, I'm thinking it came with PS2 RE:CV, but I'm not certain.

came with resident evil, RE2, RE3, and PS2 RE:CV and the weskers report DVD

I'd have to say my NES collection overall. It consists of 740 NES games, many accessories including power gloves, power pads, U-Force, complete Miracle Piano Teaching System, brand new NES Advantages, and lots of other controllers that I've collected (whenever I see a controller type I don't have I get it, and that is over several years). Also I have 3 top-loading NESes in addition to front-loaders and like 15 dogbone controllers. I guess I would also include my Game Axe (portable Famicom) as part of this collection.

Second would be Dracula X for TurboDuo that I was overjoyed to get last year.

That's right. For some reason, the only "catalog collection" I thought was released was the GC box set with 0,1,2,3,CV, and room for 4 (import only, of course).

I'm trying to recall what those briefcases went for...dayum.

myke.

Front Mission Super Famicom (sealed)
Front Mission: Gunhazard Super Famicom (sealed)
Front Mission 2 PSone
Front Mission 3 PSone
Front Mission Alternative PSone
Front Mission 4 PS2

Only thing i am missing is the Millineuim Collection of Front Mission 3, Front Mission 1st, Front Mission 3 guide

Oh i also have these other things:

Wild Arms 2
Lunar: Silver Star Story
Arc The Lad: Collection Sealed (On its way)
Resident Evil 4: Collectors Edition (GC)
Tales of Destiny II
Star Ocean: Second Story
Final Fantasy Chronicles (non gh)
Guilty Gear (x2)
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Raiden Project
Street Fighter Collection 2
Resident Evil 3 (GC)

ALL of my games that I own are my pride and joy. I could careless if they are rare or common as long as I enjoy it.

hmmm lets see castlevania sotn non-gh , finalfantasy 7 to 9 all non -gh steel battalion, also darkstalkers 1 for ps1 and toshinden 1 .last but not least my neogeo pocket with capcom vs snk and megaman the powerbattle

Pretty much all of them, it doesn't bother me that not many of them are rare. I jut care that I got a majority of them for cheap and that I enjoy them.

Sold off a lot of my old stuff, would have to say probably my sealed Final Fantasy (NES). Used to be my sealed Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally/Speed Racer (SNES) I got from my friend who works at nintendo for $4. Not many known to exist, eventually realized it was only going to set on my shelf so I sold it for $400.

Aside from the obligatory handful rare titles that many have mentioned, here are some valued media items.

IGA (producer of Castlevania since the mid-90's) and Akira Yamaoka (producer and sound composer of Silent Hill)

Metal Gear Solid 3 business card (incidentally, this card is actually outdated since my PR rep buddy has moved on to EA)
