Featuring both single player and co-op campaigns, Shank delivers on its promise of unleashing a strong mature rating on the PSN. Klei co-founder, Jamie Cheng, is no stranger to the PlayStation.Blog, when he brought his insight on building Shank’s co-op campaign and showcasing it’s combo system. PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap On August 10th, PlayStation Plus members got their chance to indulge in 32 race modes and seven player multiplayer. Not a Plus member you say? The wait is finally over; PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap races to all PSN users this Tuesday.

The latest Ludia game show game for PSN is Press Your Luck:
Get ready for an invasion of Whammies in Press Your Luck, coming tomorrow to the PS3. Just like on TV, the loveable but mischievous caped cartoon character pops up everywhere in the game, which is based on the classic Press Your Luck television game show.

Play as one of three contestants competing to win by correctly answering trivia questions to earn spins on the Big Board. The player who ends the game with the highest earnings emerges victorious — all the while trying to avoid the dreaded Whammy or risk losing all his winnings.

Press Your Luck is Ludia’s second multiplayer PS3 title, and includes two multiplayer modes: local multiplayer on one PS3, or PSN multiplayer that enables you to challenge up to two friends online. Press Your Luck also supports solo play, with over 2500 trivia questions to keep things fresh.
And the Giant Bomb quick look of the Wii version is here if you want to see it in action and how the show translates to game form.

instead of doing one gameshow they should come out with a gameshow pack. press your luck with win lose or draw and that one classic show the match game.

Just a heads up from someone who had the PC version and currently has the IPhone version. The AI in this game is among the worst in video game history. You'll be lucky if the computer earns a single spin in the question rounds. You'll likely enter each Big Board round with double digit spins. This is drastic contrast to the Apple IIe version (only other time PYL was made into a game) which was a tough challenge each and every time. The only reason to buy this game is if you're going to do the multiplayer.

Yes I am hardcore about my Press Your Luck.
I wonder if the load times on it are as dismal as the PSN version of Price is Right.
I just hope it's not as bad as the Wii version...
2 gigs for the Shank demo seems a little much
That's cause it's probably the full game, and when you go to purchase it you'll just download the unlock key.

2 gigs is still too much a crappy $15 dollar download game. Seriously, they need to make these things smaller. Its 2010 people!

Going to grab Shank. Well, I'll start with the demo first and buy it if it's really as good as it looks.

What do I get with the Protection Plan again?

you get protection so should someday somebody might forget themselves and break your ps3 or maybe , God forbid, it should suddenly catch on fire you want to know its protected right? so just give sony what it wants and dont make a peep about it if you knows whats good fer yas.........

how long is the warranty on new slims anyway? out of the box i mean.

1-year warranty is standard. Protection plan adds another year, extending the total to 2 years. Its kind of a rip-off. I don't recommend it unless you're a paranoid person.

I forgot Soldner X bundle is on sale for PSN+ owners. Got that.

Good news about Parasite Eve and Third Birthday. I'd like to get both.

My PS3 makes odd 'popping' sounds when I'm playing it - and this is the slim I bought back in March/April to replace the 60GB that shit out on me suddenly.

For $45, I'm considering it and Plus - the free software is enticing enough as is, and 30% off the protection plan is good as well.

http://us.playstation.com/support/protection-plan/index.htm
According to Sony, to qualify for a PlayStation Protection Plan, you must still be within the first year of your originally issued PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable manufacturer's warranty. (30 days for accidental damage see below)

Plans include:
• Direct access to PlayStation® Support specialists
• No out-of-pocket expenses for qualified claims
• Pre-paid shipping box
• PlayStation® quality, PlayStation® parts, PlayStation® Service Centers
• Backed by the team that brought you the PlayStation® experience

PlayStation® Protection Plan is currently not available in Canada.

Pricing and Options
Pricing and options listed on the pricing tab are for standalone Service Plans only.
PS3™
1 Year $44.99

PSP® / PSP®go
1 Year $29.99
2 Years $39.99

with Accidental Damage:
1 year $39.99
2 years $49.99
Q: What is the Accidental Damage Plan?
A: The Accidental Damage Plan is for the PSP™ family of products. It supplements the original warranty with coverage that addresses the incidents that can happen with any portable product, such as a cracked screen that results from accidental dropping. This type of damage is not covered in the original manufacturer’s warranty, but it is now available from PlayStation® as an added benefit.

The Accidental Damage Plan is available to anyone who has purchased a PSP™-3001 or PSP™ go system in the past 30 days.

Actually, I got the facts wrong. The protection plan *adds* 1 or 2 years onto the included 1 year. What is on sale for PS+ members is the 2 additional years.
If my fat PS3 suddenly explodes and I have the protection plan, do I get a PS3 slim?
No. You get a broken PS3 fat. They are not eligible for the protection plan.

Right. That sale is quite tempting.

What in the world is the MAG beta for? I haven't followed that game much at all, but a beta months after release sounds odd to me.

I think it's a beta for some MAG updates. It mentions in the description that you need the original MAG disc in the system to play the beta.

The new MAG beta is to test out forthcoming changes to MAG, including a revamped skill tree, a new economy system, a new level cap, and a new game mode called Escalation. If you're really interested, there are a number of posts about it on the MAG blog:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/08/25/minis-angry-birds-is-visually-optimized-for-the-pspgo/

Angry Birds is coming to PSP Minis:
Hi everyone, my name is Johnny Coghlan and I’m Head of Publishing for Chillingo. I’m posting on the PlayStation.Blog to confirm that Chillingo’s record-breaking physics game, Angry Birds, is going to release for PlayStation minis!

In Angry Birds, players take control of a flock of different birds as they attempt to retrieve their precious eggs from a fiendish group of thieving pigs. The pigs have taken refuge within levels containing structures made up of materials such as wood, glass and stone. There are over 100 levels to play through! The object of the game is to catapult the birds into the pigs and their protective barriers, in order to eliminate the pigs and rescue the eggs.

Each level gives the player a certain number of birds to catapult at the pigs using a giant slingshot. There are six different types of bird, each with its own appearance, weight, sound effects and special abilities such as exploding or splitting into three mini-birds for maximum impact! If the birds hit the pigs or knock a piece of material onto a pig, the pig may explode into thin air and disappear.

When all of the pigs are defeated without the player running out of birds to catapult, the level is complete and a new level is unlocked! Players may re-attempt levels as many times as they wish, and may also replay completed levels to score more points and achieve more reward stars.

Angry Birds for minis features all of the content that has made it a record-breaking addictive success! Controls are instinctive, meaning that anyone can play the game straight away, while visuals are optimized for the PSPgo to ensure the overall experience is the best it can be on the platform.

This is going to be a hit release when it launches soon! For more information on Angry Birds you can visit Chillingo.com now!
MotorStorm 3D Rift - $9.99
Ugh, I got a 3D-capable TV recently (bought it for other features, 3D was a "bonus"), and I was really hoping there would be a 3D patch for Pacific Rift rather than a new separate title just rehashing the same tracks. Given that I only paid $4.97 (Sears clearance) for Pacific Rift in its entirety, I'm going to have a difficult time at best justifying dropping twice that on just a subset of the tracks and vehicles. They could have at least thrown in a little new content . . .

Then again, I'm not buying the 3D glasses until there's more worthwhile 3D content available anyway. Maybe there will be a sale/price-drop on this by then.
Is PJ racer 2nd lap really free if you own the first one? Is this until the next update too? Thanks.
It is indeed free. I got it and I'm not a PS+ member. I don't know how long it'll be free for (if it's a limited time deal).

I think it's a permanent deal. You'll see that 2nd Lap is free if you own the original. It'll just download as a new game, which I'm guessing is so that you don't lose your precious PJR save.

Edit: There will be a RUSE demo coming tomorrow/today, as well.

Edit 2: TikGames/Creat Studios sale coming this week:

TikGames (San Mateo, CA) and Creat Studios (Canton, MA) today announced their “End of Summer Sale Spectacular”, featuring all nine of their PSN titles at 40% off standard retail price. Additionally, all Downloadable Content (DLC) Packs are on sale for 99¢. All titles and DLC content are on sale in North America from August 31st through September 14th on the PlayStation 3® computer entertainment system, offered via Sony’s PlayStation®Network.

Players can wind down the summer and prepare for fall with great savings on some of the best and most exciting games on the PlayStation®Network. From the dynamic, tricked-out, RC car racing experience of Smash Cars to the colorful, destructible world of pirates and dragons in Magic Orbz, to the intense, over-the-top action of Wakeboarding HD, TikGames and Creat Studios offer a fun way to celebrate the change of season.

Cuboid, Hamsterball, Magic Orbz, Mahjong Tales and Interpol and more (Mushroom Wars and Digger HD are the rest) are all available for download for $5.99. Smash Cars and Wakeboarding HD can be purchased for $8.99.

“TikGames and Creat Studios continue to lead the pack, offering more titles than any other publisher on PlayStation®Network,” said Anatoly Tikhman, Founder and CEO of TikGames, LLC. “As school begins and autumn approaches, we are very happy to present such an excellent value to PSN fans!”

“Creat Studios and TikGames are thrilled to offer all of our titles on sale as the summer winds down,” said Vladimir Starzhevsky, co-founder and CEO of Creat Studios, Inc. “Over the past two years, we have brought PSN players the highest quality games, and now old and new customers alike can discover our titles at an even greater value.”
The PS+ prices should drop with the sale, as well.

Finally the update went up. Currently downloading Vanquish demo. Whenever that finishes I'll start on Castle Crasher demo download.

No psn+ discounts on anything is terribly weak.

Edit. There are slight plus discounts, with some titles being $4.79...

PSN+ is supposed to update ever other week now. This is an off week. I know that at least we get a free Qore next Tuesday.

That has nothing to do with them offering further sale prices to plus members. They did it with the summer sale and they finally updated the prices after the store update.

Just finished playing the Vanquish demo. Damn, that game feels like Gears of War on speed! I remember when I first saw "the roadie run" in Gears all those years ago, I thought it was so incredible, but boosting in this game blows that out of the water. I loved it so much I didn't even bother using the guns; I just L2 + O each and every enemy. Day one purchase for me for sure.

Vanquish demo is kick ass, man I'm glad I pre-ordered it. I was a little worried that it was going to be a huge let-down, but now I'm feeling really stoked for it. I can't wait!

Wow, nice update this week. Anyone know if they're planning on releasing any more NCAA dynamic themes? I thought I'd never buy a theme, but I would waste copious amounts of money on an Auburn dynamic theme.
