What's in the PS Store (5/31/16): Neon Chrome, Oxenfree, Primal, There Came an Echo, Plague Inc, & More!

You know you can backup everything so you don't have to redownload, I've had to do it twice, the thought 320HDD was enough... nope.

On topic of the thread, really digging sideway. It's really just a pretty 2d side stroller but I'm cool with that
I have a 120gb and I am at 20gb... I would hate to get a new HDD and redownload all my saves and whtnot -_-

but yeah, my HDD is getting stuffed. I had to delete some games last night which I hate doing. PS+ isn't helping either with all this free stuff.
This is probably a stupid question, but are you allowed to transfer videos you bought on PSN to an external hard drive or memory card? I'm down to 14 gigs on my PS3 and could easily free another 20 or so from videos online.

Speaking of videos, the Video portion of the PSN store mentions a free video rental on Friday based on the movie with the most votes on the "Sony Entertainment Network" face book page. Choices are Scary Movie 4 and Lesbian Vampire Killers.

Dude, Lesbian Vampire Killers sounds awesome, but kind of like shitty porn lol.

Got a voucher code on Payday: The Heist last night. Download is a bit slow than usual but this is going to be worth it!!!!!!

The free ones that were technically "paid" that I got I was able too, it encrypts them and puts them on whatever you back them up (in my case a 8GB flash drive) and I could restore them whenever I wanted. Not sure if you can use a USB HDD, but I guess it's possible.
In case anybody is wondering, both Rocketbirds and Okabu have platinum trophies.
Also, don't let big retail releases prevent you/anyone from playing these.

Wow, I would actually be interested in that, but wtf at that price? I passed on the $10 LA Noire pass...

I realize they say "map packs", but that is still a heavy price to pay up front.

Sure is. There is that psychological barrier that you are paying $85 for a game. Sure you get the included DLC free, but still.........

The old format made you think "OK, I am paying $60 for this game" and then later "$10 for a DLC" or whatever. But this puts it all in your face right away and makes you feel like you are paying $85 instead of $60 for the game itself.

Let's face it. This is a "Hot Ticket Item" and it will sell well, but......
This is just the company's way of "pushing the envelope" to see how much they can get out of the customer on (or before) day 1. Grant it, it is also prefunding the DLC and other content, but does that mean that if they do not get the sales for it that they wanted for packs like this on this or any other game, they are going to be putting in less effort to develop it? And there is the argument that "No, because they already have it completed and ready to go." Well if they have it done why did they not include it in the actual game? And if they did, would they charge $85 for it?

especially when you know they will make a goty edition. makes you wonder how much they will start charging for map packs now since if i recall the ones in u2 were only like 4 or 5 bucks.

There weren't any map packs for Uncharted 2, just one pack that had Siege mode with two maps included and another that had Drake's Fortune skins and two maps from that game that were $2.99 each.

Since the embargo's up, I can say that Rocketbirds is a very good game. It's a side-scrolling shooter kind of like Shank if that were more about the guns than melee. The only downside to it is that it's short at about three to four hours to beat the single-player campaign and there's a remixed co-op campaign for two local players that has 2/3rds the chapters that the single-player campaign has. It would be an easier recommendation for the PS+ launch price ($9.59) than the full $12 unless you really like the demo.

it added maps so its a map pack. and technically there were 2 since one set i believe was free as part of an update. or maybe just the fort was free i dont remember but 25 is asking alot.

Pretty sure you can, just click triangle on the video and it should give you the option to transfer it to USB. It's meant as a way to transfer the video to another system, so I don't think you can watch it off of external storage.

There's a sweet deal for Valkyrie Chronicles 2 and the DLC for 12.49 for PS+ members. But, it's only showing up in the Special Offers at this time as they have the regular non-discounted game in the PS+ section in error.

Hmm... The prices for these seem off, especially the Tactical Enhancement Pack, which only costs $2 on steam and the 360. The Missing Link DLC is also supposed to be $15. If you want the DLC, I'd jump on it now, just in case it is an error, I know I did.

Anybody know if the Disc based version of Ridge Racer 7 upgrades to 3D for free?

Reason I ask is that the JPN and HK store offered the 3D upgrade on their PSN stores (respectively) at no cost, then when it comes overseas I see it as a $20 version (which I assume is the complete game with 3D bundled in)

Hmm, cannot recommend that Rocketbirds game. For an Arcade game, it should be fluid, and responsive. As it stands, you seem to be fighting the controls whenever on land. The environments and ideas are okay, but the controls ruin it. I'd wait for a firesale, instead of the measly discount for PS+.

I agree, although the soundtrack is a whole lot of awesome for this game...

Don't listen to this. Set it for digital controls and problem solved. It "feels" like a delay with analog on.
hell yeah street smart and no im not being sarcastic i like this game. now if only theyd add sor1.
I thought the same thing. It's been too long to remember for sure, but I think that the Genesis port of Street Smart may have been the first Genesis game I ever played. Sort of an unspectacular introduction but holy crap did it ever blow me away after years of NES games.

So, I understand the gist of the "Buy $60, get $10 back" promo but is there any way to find out how much you've spent so far this month? Between RE4, RE:CV, SFA3 and a couple others, I'm pretty sure that I'm more than halfway there. I could buy $40 in PSN cards and be done with it, but I'd prefer to spend as little as possible.

Preface: Must be getting jaded in my old age (more than usual that is or not as tolerant of lower quality games these days) or games aren't as good as they used to be.

So I started going through the glut of demos I had to play here recently and had a few observations (based on initial feedback found throughout this thread)

Okabu - Art direction is awesome and quirky looking, but after the second take the guy to the cannon to open the door piece, I was like fuck this game and deleted it (this is based on not knowing what it was about to begin with). To say the least we weren't off to a good start.

Rocketbirds - I tried to like it, I really did. I dug the music and the pseudo 3D gfx, but the play control (played it with the d-pad) sucked horrendously, the main chicken dude moved like a block of wood, and the roll move, what was that all about (is it even possible to get to that air duct when you first enter the base?) Laughable VA'ing, as in so bad, it's just bad. I saw a lot of good there, just wasn't enough to persuade me it was worth buying.

Cubixx HD - My first and only response was do I need to play yet ANOTHER Qix clone....and the answer was no, deleted after beating the first level.

Crazy Machines Elements - Guess I shoulda played the tutorial level last night, but it was late and I was tired, gave it literally 3 minutes (2 of which were loading screens) and deleted it. Guess it's a game for people with more patience than I had last night.

The Baconing - I like the Death Spank games, (but not love them) this one feels like its better than 2, but not as good as 1. Which I'm ok with. My only issue is after the first boss slaughtered me mercilessly, the game defaulted to easy mode and I finally defeated him, but I was like wtf, why make the boss so damned damage resistant (not to mention the freakin' respawning enemies) then not give me enough health to tank the guy or at least run away long enough for my food items to work properly (you get attacked by archers and the boss if you go to far away, which is cheap) Other than that one main gripe, I'll be buying it when it gets cheap (just like the last two).

Beat Hazard Ultra - Sorry Frisky, this game was not THE shit, it was just shit. There are much better twin stick shooters out there to be had and with all of the it "plays your music" hype, apparently the demo selects two mp3's from your list in alphabetical order and plays them only (with no chance to choose anything else) which had to be two songs I d/l'ed from the PSN from some game that gave the soundtrack away for free, and which frankly sucked (not their fault I know, but for a feature so touted that was a stupid move on their part to limit that). Was wanting to play it with a Menomena track from the Mountain Dew commercials a few years back (hell even a NIN song on my HDD), well that didn't happen to say the least. Yeah 10 minutes and deleted (7 minutes spent screwing with the song selection menu to get it to play what I WANTED to hear), won't be buying this either.

Real Steel - Oh Yukes' how far you have fallen, from the awesome Berserk games and the woefully overlooked Eve of Extinction (on PS2 check it out).....to this. (I don't play their WWE games) Yeah played one round got KO'ed and was like this game sucks (the stamina bar gets used up to quickly), shed a tear for Yukes' then deleted it.

Last up is...

Ugly Americans - I've been "fortunate" to see the show a handful of times via my nephew, and honestly if you're going to rip off Smash TV do it right or not at all. It was funny (for a bit) but the humor can't deter the lame gameplay that is contained within. Some things just weren't meant to be made into games and this is one of them.

Probably played one or two more last night during the demo purge, but can't remember what they were except Bodycount, (ouch...:whistle2:#) (a blessing in disguise?) Just wanted to give some other opinions on some games that have been mentioned here lately and what I thought of them.

How is Cuboid a Qix clone? They're nothing alike.

I can understand Rocketbirds' controls not being something that everybody likes, but the VA and all that is intentionally cheesy like an action movie. The rolling is a faster, more tactically sound way to get around the levels and get the advantage over enemies.

So your complaints about Beat Hazard are just that you don't like the first two songs from the first artists, alphabetically, that are on your hard drive? You can just delete them, or move them to a thumb drive if you want to keep them around, to push the songs you want to play up to the top. I don't think the Steam demo even allowed that much, as you were stuck with the included songs while it dangled the option to play with your own music behind the pay wall. The demo is missing the whole persistent ranking/perk stuff that makes it a fun game to play for me. I guess I can see why you'd be disappointed if you're just playing it for the dual-stick shooter aspect of the game, but for me, it's the ability to listen to my music, play a fun shooter, work towards perks, and how it all ties together that makes it a great game. It's also grown a bit from what the Steam version originally was, without perks and all of the upgrades that the Ultra expansion offers. I guess it's another example of it not being your thing.

I don't think the download history shows too much in terms of money spent.

Before I respond to Frisky, there is a NEW(?) Sonic Generations Demo out on the HK and JPN store that allows you to play as Classic and Current Sonic in the Green Hill Zone, if interested, since the game comes out soon check it out. (Got it last night haven't had time to play it yet.)
How is Cuboid a Qix clone? They're nothing alike.

That and I didn't think the game was very good either for a Twin Stick Shooter, the gfx were bland, the enemies were lacking, overall it was pretty generic for $10 even with the ability to create your own OST, but my complaint about choosing the songs I want to play in the demo is valid, pretty stupid way to sell me on it if I have to work to enjoy it, no? (even if it is a petty complaint, by your comments)

Yeah I understand intentionally cheesy, I really wanted to like the game, honest. But I thought the "Arnold chicken" (also see "Drago" chicken) were too much cheese to tolerate. There are better side scrollers out there and cheaper ones (Gunstar Heroes or Hardcore Uprising).

I understand you get a lot of these to review for free, but I can play something for 5 minutes after all of these years and know with 98% certainty if I like it or not and if it's decent quality (regardless of my taste in the genre or game style or not) I've probably have played over 4000 games in 30 years and have enough experience to have a $#!^-filter about what is trash vs. treasure.

My mistake, I meant Cubixx HD not Cuboid (when I read your post I knew I either made a mistake with the name or something was wrong). But still my point remains (as long as we're on target for me talking about the right game now, and I'm a little surprised you didn't catch me on that, my fault for not being lazy and making sure I was talking about the correct name of the game)

My apologies.
I assume he means Cubixx HD, not Cuboid.
Yeah thanks, I looked at the front page and knew it was Cube-something and Cuboid stuck out in my head, again it's my fault for being too lazy to double check and make sure I knew which game I was talking about. I'll try not to let it happen again.

Managed to play another demo yesterday...

Renegade Ops - I love Just Cause 2, so I wasn't sure what to expect here even though I heard the words Jackal HD thrown about. Well it's freakin' awesome, nice gfx, fast paced action game, only issue I had was the way point system and them throwing too many objectives at you at the same time (since I was working on finishing up gathering prisoners up and they were adding new objectives as I was doing them) which makes sense I guess since the point is to be in a ever evolving scenario and they wanted to keep things high tension, just wished I had more time to get things done, plus I hope the time limit thing isn't in the full game (if you veer off the beaten path on a mission) since I like to explore and see what I can find. And the way-point system, I load up with prisoners and they want me to go back to the church, well where is the church...I know the island section in the demo wasn't huge but it still was a bit confusing to keep finding new prisoners and not being able to get them since I had a full compliment and couldn't find where to drop them off at. It's a buyer, but at $10, dunno if I'd enjoy 2P split screen though, they should have went the route like Gatling Gears and kept the two vehicles together somehow.
You deserve to be beat for dissing Beat Hazard. Iv not played the PSN version yet but the Steam version is godly.
Like Frisky said "I guess it's another example of it not being your thing." I don't see what people are liking about it, I see a Asteroid/Geometry Wars clone (and not a very good example of one)

Is the Steam version so much better than what they released on the PSN? Cause from what little I did play of it, I was bored to tears, and tried to understand what all of the fuss was about. Is it a case of Dark Void demo syndrome where the demo is not indicative at all of what the final product is, or is it another one off of me just not seeing what everybody else is seeing good about it? Please enlighten me.

Don't want to start anything with Rolento, but man, come on, are people not allow to comment on things in the thread (that are on topic no less), plus reading is fundamental, I saw his response about the $10 back thing (both of 'em). Don't see the reason for the dig at me about my post above, that was uncalled for, regardless of its length, I don't do many of those long posts that often, so I don't see the need to be snarky about it, since it was suppose to be a alternate opinion piece on mini-review comments I saw throughout the thread on paid games. If you didn't mean me, I apologize, but I think you did, so...anyway I'll leave it at that.

I don't think anybody would fight you about the graphics for Beat Hazard Ultra not being amazing, as they work for the kind of game that it is. If you're expecting that, then you're looking at the wrong game. I do think complaining about the way they limit your use of custom songs for the demo is a bit silly since they're not going to let you play all of your songs to see it in action, but you can probably do that anyway if you want to do a little bit of work.

I don't care for Gunstar Heroes or Contra games since they're a bit too cheap/hard for me too enjoy, though RBHC isn't really trying to be anything like those kinds of run-and-gun shooters.

Renegade Ops gives you plenty of time to get all of the objectives done, but if you're taking forever, the "stop fucking around and get a move on" countdown will pop-up to get you back on track. It's not really an open world game since it just offers bigger levels for the events of that level to unfold in. The prisoner arrow should point you right back to the church when you're full, if not offer two gray arrows for the next prisoner and the church. The game's explorational elements are usually contained in the secondary objectives that pops up, as there's nothing to really find off of those paths. Gatling Gears is extremely linear and is kind of an on-rails shooter, which is why that kind of split-screen works for it.

Wasn't trying to say that you don't have taste or anything, just saying that some of those games may not really be the kinds of games that you're expecting them to be and that they're not necessarily for everybody. It's different strokes for different folks, so what I enjoy isn't necessarily going to be great for everybody else. I just give my opinion on the games I've played, which I pay for more often then you and others assume I do, so that people that are looking for as many opinions as possible have something to take into consideration when looking to buy a game.

The Drop for this week:
PlayStation Network

PixelJunk SideScroller (PSN Exclusive) – Based on the unlockable stage from PixelJunk Shooter 2, PixelJunk Sidescroller is a complex and dynamic fluid simulation system, which fills the game world with flowing liquids and hazardous gases, while putting a new spin on arcade shooters. Blast holes in walls or use your ship itself to drill past scorching hot magma. The fluids react in real-time to the player’s actions and to other liquids, creating unique and exciting situations with every play.

Dodge flurries of alien bullets and strategically upgrade weapons as you battle your way through sweeping stages full of hazardous fluid and endless shooting mayhem. Each player’s goal is to get to the end of each level, while gathering scattered coins for points and protecting themselves from the barrage of enemy attacks. Players can look forward to brand new levels and ferocious boss attacks along the way.

Call of Duty: Black Ops – Hear the call of duty once again with this seventh entry in this blockbuster first-person shooter franchise. Homefront – The year is 2027. The world has suffered a decade-long energy crisis, and economies have crumbled. Featuring a compelling single player story crafted by John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn), Homefront immerses gamers in an interactive and cinematic FPS experience where they will assume an infantry role or take command of a wide variety of aerial and ground vehicles. In addition to the single-player experience, Homefront will deliver a robust multiplayer experience. In a land stripped of freedom, the brave will fight for their home.

MX vs ATV: Alive – Own the competition as you wrestle for position with tightly contested racing in the fifth iteration of the MX vs ATV franchise. I hope Daytona USA is good. The DD reboot of Sega Rally Championship struck me as horribly generic. There's something hypnotic about old Sega arcade racing games but the only systems that have really sucked me in with them were the Saturn and the Dreamcast. I'd be happiest with straight arcade ports of Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Super GT, and maybe Sega Touring Car Championship. With all the licenses involved, I can't see it ever happening.

Exactly, and thank you for pointing this out. ;) (the main reason I was posting my impressions to begin with)

And I apologize for the comment about you getting games free all of the time, when you don't (my incorrect assumption), won't happen again.

Now off to get Infamous Festival of Blood I paid for a few weeks ago. :D

Hey, Frisky, can you start posting the sizes of these games? I know there are lists in the gamesharing thread and lists on PS3Trophies.org, so this would surely help some people with limited room.
