You've never seen the movie Brown Sugar? ;)

You can get it off the Soundtrack to the movie, and if you haven't, watch the movie also, as a hip-hop fan, you'll love it.

Throw Ya Gunz!

Since Jekki didn't give us his album of the day this is my pick for today. 'Bacdafucup' features four angry dudes yelling and rapping. Too bad they tried following up this one; they released 'Bacdafucup Part II' a few years ago and it wasn't too hot.

we talked a bit about Onyx in the last thread.

I dont understand how a group who releases three consecutive classic records (Bacdafucup, All We Got Iz Us, Shut Em Down) follows it up with an album as horrible as Bacdafucup II.

Triggernometry wasnt any better either... doods need Def Jam badly.

check out this video:

it's from a record released earlier this year:

61nek-W9L6L._AA240_.jpg

it got a lot of good reviews, personally I did not enjoy the record that much at all...

but that song!! the last verse on it by RA the Rugged man, best verse on the whole album!!

the verse is as good as his verse on that Jedi Mind Tricks track, Uncommon Valor, but he doest spit for like 2 minutes straight like he did on the JMT track.

with that said, album of the day is:

51EW24QW3QL._AA240_.jpg

all I gotta say is... this is a must hear. if you have gotten it, GET IT! it's on emusic if you got sum downloads this month.

it seriously took this dood like 10 years to come out with his album. I think he said like "when will my album come out? when I'm broke!" I guess his financial situation in 04 was good for us!
I've heard RA on THUG and Saint's Row, he's great.
When I originally heard him I thought the dude was black. But yes, he has some interesting lyrics and subjects. I'll check out that album sometime.

If anyone here is from the South Florida area, Aesop Rock and Black Moth Super Rainbow (never heard of Black Moth Super Rainbow, can anyone fill me in on them?) will be perfoming in Miami on November 10th. A

My cousin wants to come with me, he's 16 but he's also a big fan of Aesop Rock, is there anyway I can sneak him into the show? On this page here:

http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0D003F26843020ED?artistid=1157694&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1

It says 18+ welcome, but would they I.D. him?

look what comes out tomorrow!

51HIZI52-0L._AA240_.jpg

I've heard one guy say it's 9/10 for him so far... sounds like it'll be dope!

hopefully Best Buy has it, I wanna buy it with the Kush tomorrow w/ 10% coupon.

I also picked up these yesterday:

from what I've listened so far with the Special Teamz record... it's everything I hoped it would be!!!

album of the year?? maybe...

so did I tell you guys the Special Teamz album is the shyt?!?!

I havent even listen to the whole thing yet... but it's pretty much everything I would ever want in a rap album.

anyway, VH1 is doing a hip-hop show about something rite now or something (I dont have TV)

and it has THIS (lupe, common, pharrell + special guest!):

in related news, Lupe got a lot of heat from ppl becoz he never listened to early Tribe Called Quest albums before, there was like a big discussion about it at the street fighter board (shoryuken)

I dont have links now but can get them later..

EDIT: more hotness for you guys...

a very rough copy of... Little Brother f/ Lil Wayne!

link: http://www.zshare.net/download/4099294b7f8f39/

Wayne's verse is very... interesting! I dont kno if it's the quality of the file or the fact that he's not on sum more gangsta shyt, but he sounds very young and different on this track!

nothing like his usual spit about girls and relationships (like from that Lloyd song, or Hollywood Divorce from Idlewild)

I caught the tail end of it, I wanted to watch the whole thing cause last years show was pretty sweet. I saw the Snoop and ATCQ performances they were both pretty sweet. If you don't know the format of the show, first other artists cover the honoree's songs and then the honorees themselves perform. It was kind of stupid to have lil bow wow come out with snoop though. He really doesn't belong on stage. Hopefully I can catch a re-run of the whole show/

Hopefully it will air again this weekend. I caught it one year, I think it was two years ago. All I remember was Public Enemy and Anthrax were playing together for the rap-metal version of 'Bring the Noise'. Which is a pretty dope track, and even better than PE's original version.

My album of the day

B000008ES9.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I remember buying this in 94 after hearing Remember We on the radio and then promptly listening to it for what had to of been almost a month straight while I slept at night. At the time, it had a unique sound with its heavy reggae sound and though they followed this up with Gravity (which is the better album), nothing can take the place this one has in my heart. I remember having the chance of buying the promo vinyl only to pass on it (never said I was smart), fucking mistake as I've never seen it pop up since then

And though its 13 years old, it still holds up quite well
Anyone heard the new 9th Wonder? If so, how is it?
wish they got their copies in yesterday

but its supposed to be there today
wish they got their copies in yesterday

That sucks, mang. Do you hit up some smaller CD store or something? If so, I wish I had one of those. Newbury Comics is nice, though.

And do you think it'd be worth me blind-buying the 9th Wonder album? I dig his production for the most part.

yeah, there is a small hole in the wall shop that one of my friends works at. Can order pretty much anything from there or they hook me up with info on how to get some of the vinyl I buy. Its kind of cool, I get a discount since I buy so much and they are not too anal when it comes to picking up the stuff I order as long as I buy it in a somewhat fashionable time.

Except for a song with Memphis Bleek, the line up looks good. I hope its good, the dude has really become a pissy douche bag over the last year which gives me doubt on if I will like him ever again

:lol:mad:Memphis Bleek.

I'll probably just grab it.
:lol:mad:Memphis Bleek.

sad part is the song also has Mos and Jean Grae so it feels like he is sticking it to the listener so you have to listen to his shitty rhymes

Shit, he's on that song? I must have glanced over his name when looking at the guest list.

There's a good reason I did that.

lol is Memphis Bleek that bad?? I never listened to him:

yeay... he dont seem that good. I'd rather listen to Cassidy or Papoose or one of those similar doods.

I listened to Eligh - Poltergeist during the 2nd half of my work day today

(becoz NPR was asking for money... I already work for a company that gives them cash!)

but damn, it was a real good album, it musta repeated itself like 3 times thruout my afternoon!!

I gotta do it again tomorrow!!
sad part is the song also has Mos and Jean Grae so it feels like he is sticking it to the listener so you have to listen to his shitty rhymes
Mos Def's guest spot on 'Drunk & Hot Girls' with Kanye West is by far worse than anything Memphis Bleek has ever done. :hot:

I do own 'The Understanding' by Memphis Bleek. Although I don't personally like the dude, and his music has certainly fell off since his 2000 release, it was a decent Roc-A-Fella album. If you like other artists on the label then you would like him, but I haven't paid attention to him since then.

Bleek was incredible on 'Can I Live II' (on the re-release of Reasonable Doubt though.

well if you have heard:

2 minute verse... freakin insane.

I got no idea what the dood released before Die Rugged Man Die, he was signed to like or somethin Jive back in 94 but didnt want to release a tv / radio friendly single after dood was being hyped as this awesome upcoming emcee. So nothing happened to his career.

I jus read about that somewhere tho, personally I never heard of the dood until Soundbombing II.

In this past week I alo listened to all of Royce Da 5'9'' main albums, in order from best to worse they go:

5111XXT5NDL._AA240_.jpg
41Q6Y09E1QL._AA240_.jpg
61QJ4GEXCRL._AA240_.jpg

I gave Independents Day (3rd album) 1.5x spins, it kinda sux... nothing too good about it other than a few ok songs. Gonna give it another try.

Rock City is a good debut... a lot going on in it, definitely trying to bring many sounds.

Death is Certain is incredible!!! Album of the Day!! Supposedly, he recorded the album when he was depressed so the tone is quite somber in it. Plus it had this amazing song on it:

anyway dood is a real dope artist, his music always keeps you juggled between bad and good so you always expect a gamble when you check him out.

if his stuff sounds god, then good!! if it sux, then oh well maybe next time.

kinda like AZ, lol!!

ayo check THIS out:

isnt that song awesome?!?! I was on the fence about buying the Kush after its ambiguous release date (the hype began to wear off on me) but then I saw that vid and was like "aw hell naw I'm copping that shyt with my 10% best buy coupon!"

after two spins, the only word to describe the album is meeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

like, the record aint bad, but it aint good either... it's JUST above average... like 2.7/5

and it gets me thinking, has any other group in hip-hop history fallen off as hard as Mobb Deep has?????

Hell On Earth is a top 5 record for me, and The Infamous is considered a hip-hop classic.

Havoc and Prodigy were considered two of the best at their craft.

Havoc is considered by many to be one of the best producers in hip-hop, making many personal top 10 lists. shyt... even mine.

when the whole east vs west shyt was on, Prodigy was one of tupac's biggest threats!! P was without a doubt one of QB's best emcees for some hot minutes.

but their shyt began to spiral down fast... if you listen to Amerika's Nightmare you will hear some of the worst verses come out of Prodigy's mouth. I shoulda known too, I absolutely hated the single off the record, Get it Twisted.

but the reason why I bought the album was coz of this song:

this song is INCREDIBLE!! I can listen to it ALL DAY. this shyt had me straight FIENDIN for sum Havoc beats.

so now we have a solo record from Hav and all but 3 beats stands out (tracks 1, 2, and 7). The rest are forgettable. Theyre not bad, but forgettable.

I swear, it took so long for him to come out... Hav and P are supposed to be LEGENDS yet wtf is up?? Mobb Deep needs to go back and make quality shyt like this again:

I still consider Prodigy's Return of the Mac album one of this year's best, but it's mostly becoz he is not taking the record serious. If Prodigy tried, it wouldnt go well, but when he's messing around he makes a good album, lol.

lastly, if you havent heard, dood P is gonna do a 3.5 year bid soon:
http://allhiphop.com/blogs/news/archive/2007/10/10/18715321.aspx

hopefully he takes the time off to rework his craft. Likewise I hope the Kush is nothing more than a practice album...

Eventually I found this website which has two downloads of most of the songs that RA has ever put out that weren't on either of his two CDs ( the first one was recorded but never released ). Good shit.

wow... u r the fuckin man of the hour rite now.

I look forward to the volume 1 track 13 with Havoc,

the version I heard was off sum High & Mighty album even tho Mr Eon didnt even fit in the song... he jus took an old song and put his verse on it... then put it on his album!

so Getback leaked last week and has been getting much praise.

I aint heard it... waiting for retail. But the funny thing is that it seems to have been leaked by Phonte himself (per the included txt file that came with the download).

anyway allhiphop did a good review on it:
http://allhiphop.com/blogs/reviews/archive/2007/10/15/18730256.aspx

and my favorite excerpt from the article is:

LB to get to what they do best; documenting the highs and lows of the everyday struggle to make money, make love and make sense of it all.

see?? that shyt's hip-hop! life is hip-hop!!

I'm still stuck on Special Teamz at the moment but I cant wait for this to come out!!

one more week! Little Brother + Phoenix Wright 3 + Castlevania PSP = LOTS OF DISTRACTIONS!!!

and u kno what they say about distractions?? that shyt is hip-hop!! that's what they say!

I listened to Getback for the first time last night and I enjoyed what I paid attention to. It was kind of late for me so it was hard to focus.

Which CunninLynguists album would you guys suggest starting out with?

I prefere Will Rap For Food but I just know everyone is going to mention A Piece Of Strange. Will Rap For Food is great top to bottom but A Piece of Strange had a couple clunkers on it.

I agree that most people will recommend APoS and that Will Rap for Food is the better starting point.
I liked that one alot...thanks!
Yes. I can't wait for his new album to come out. Anyone know the release date? There were some other songs in the related links that I'd never heard that are amazing as well. Lupe is definitely my favorite rapper out right now. Lyrically he can't really be touched.

whaaaaat?!?! that's my old school!!!

how much?!?!

I was jus in that area JUS NOW!

well... kinda. I went to visit my old work (urbn at the Lab in Costa Mesa) to buy sum fresh new kicks. Hella close to UCI tho.

I think it's going to be a free show. It's part of the grand opening for the new student center.
