Wii Fit - Gen. Discussion & Info - What's your Fit age?

Is that like a 300 pound person or it can take that much pressure? I'm going to call it right now that some fat dude is gonna jump on his board, break it, and then somehow injure himself. Maybe on his fall down he'll accidentally hurl his Wiimote at the TV too.

Hell, a 200-pound person jumping hard enough could generate more than 300 pounds of downward force. This is going to be entertaining; local news stations will eat up the new wave of Wii-related injuries and idiotic lawsuits.
I'm sure this has been posted before but it just made me laugh. It's just full of great one-liners.

The WiiFit looks great with anything from IKEA.
Was that the actual trailer for the game? (Clearly minus the voice over). If that is...this game is going to sell BILLIONS. Yes, BILLIONS. I say we take bets when it appears on Oprah, on the View, or in one of those thousands of magazines for women.

So how big is this board? I haven't really watched any videos on this until right now and that "dancing" game looks fun. If the board has some height, then you would be doing some form of step aerobics (which is the point) and that CAN burn some calories. But if the board isn't very high and the exercises aren't fast...then yeah, yawn.

Maybe I'll gain some weight, then go on a strict diet then thank Wii Fit for all my weight loss (40lbs +) and see if I can become like a spokesperson and appear on Oprah and get a free car and shit :whistle2:k

Is there a weight limit to the balance board? The obese will be shedding off the pounds if you take a person with little physical activity and they stick to Wii Fit daily.

I just want this to sell well enough so devs start to think of cool things to do with the board.

I know the weight limit was like 300lbs in Japan but I thought I read that they had to reinforce it for Americans? I don't know if the limit is still 300lbs and it's just sturdier or if it can hold chubbier Americans.

 That's really embarrassing.
I hope Homer Simpson gets Wii Fit. That would quite possibly be an amazing episode.
That would be hilarious.

I'm pretty sure they've said that they made the American version stronger and able to hold 330 lbs as opposed to the Japanese 300 lbs.

And there will be a YouTube video of it up within minutes.

I have an order in at Amazon and DDD. One is for me, but do you think I should cancel the latter or just keep it and try and move it on Ebay at release date or later this year when demand warrants? Or do you think there will be a ceiling as to how valuable it might be?

sorry to dredge this back up again, but has anyone actually confirmed the weight support. i had heard some pretty astronomical numbers, i think it was on cagcast where they were discussing its the same scale or whatnot just in japan they have restrictions and regulations on scale ratings. im a very big gamer all the way around. im chubby and tall so i exceed the 300 lb limit. i want the game but i need to find some concrete proof of its weight support before i buy it and have to rebuy it as my biking to work and working out in the evenings begins to pay off.

i am exercising without it. im hitting the weights at the gym erday in rotation of upper body pulls, then pushes, then lower body with mid on all three days. i do that cycle over three days then lather, rinse, repeat. and im biking to work now to knock that out as well, granted its only 4 miles, but its something. i just think itd be cool to have a casual game i could knock out at home and have it be something i could use as a tool for charting progress. it sounds lame i admit, but as a very avid gamer, id like to use my hobby to help with the positive changes in my life

Not everyone is as self-motivating as KOPE (kudos, btw). Having a "$90 piece of plastic" in your living room with a dedicated Wii channel tracking your BMI can be both convenient and good motivation.

Read IGN's preview if you have 2 minutes

And if you don't want a Wii fit, fine, don't get one. I am getting a little tired of the incredulous attitude that ANYONE would want one.

If this weren't a Nintendo product, I don't think it would be getting such a positive reception. So they replicated activities that would be more effective in real-life into a virtual format. So what? Real-life hula hopping isn't fun. I fail to see how virtual hula hooping would be more satisfying. The only way I'd even consider Wii Fit is if it allowed interaction with a new 1080 Snowboarding game. I just think it's ridiculous.

You're right, if it wasn't made by a company with a record of producing quality hardware and software, it wouldn't be nearly as well received.
Has anyone heard how carpet can affect the balance board on wii fit?
Excellent question.... all the videos show tile or hard flooring dont they?

The padding might have some impact... I mean bring your digital scale out to the carpet and watch it vary largely.

Wii Fit has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever IMO. Yet it will probably sell millions like Nintendogs, Brain Age, and Wii Sports, so what do I know?

Wii Fit...I mean....who wants to exercise when they play video games? I don't even consider this a video game actually...more like an exercise tool. I guess its good for those who want to lose weight and ... uh... somehow exercise in a video game motivates them?...
Its also good for people who want to have fun. Lots of trolling in here.
I think it's the pricing that's getting people disgusted. For a little over double the price you could join an actual gym and get in much better shape.

And those people that feel that the price is too high have the option of not buying it.
Also, its purpose isnt to make you more fit. The only reason the product deserves to succeed or fail is based on whether or not it is fun.

You might as well be saying that there are actual (although cheap) guitars available cheaper than Guitar Hero.

I'm not buying it because the price is too high for me, but I will go over to whoever I know that gets it first just for the skiing game.

The purpose isn't to make you more fit? The game is called WII FIT. It tracks your BMI...why would it do that if the point wasn't to become more fit? The game most likely wont succeed because it's fun, it will succeed because it's popular.

The guitar hero comparison is not a good one. Playing an actual guitar takes an entirely different level of skill over playing a plastic one. Getting in shape takes little to no skill. Hell, you could flail around like an idiot and raise your heart rate. The difference with the gym is you can continuously increase your weight/cardio speed, where as virtual hula-hooping will only get you so far.

Lots of trolling in here.

I am getting this when it comes out just because I want to actually see if It can be a viable source of entertainment.

Strangely enough, yes.
"I don't think Wii Fit's purpose is to make you fit; what it's actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body."
http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/miyamoto-wii-fit-is-not-designed-to-make-you-fit/19355

First hand accounts of people who have been using it, if they have gotten more fit, is because of a general awareness that has pushed them to do other things as a part of a more generally healthy lifestyle.

No more PS3 price jokes then Mr. DMK!

Everyone has the option to not buy it.
and they all seem to have taken that option ;) ba-dum bump!

I'll agree that Wii Fit won't make anyone more fit.
It's gonna take a lot more than this simple device.

However, Nintendo is pushing as if it's going to be your lifesaver.
They're whole unveiling of the device was showing how much fitter it can make you.

It's more practical, that's for sure. Tracking how many calories you take in is far more critical than your BMI.

But if watching a mii lose weight on screen is the deal breaker that constitutes as fun, then by all means, spend 90.00 on wii fit.

And Dallow has a point. For all the criticizing you do of the PS3, you say it's ok for the Wii Fit because you have the option of not buying it. Brilliant.

How often do you see me in a PS3 thread in the PS3 forum? Even when I'm there its going to be for a sales thread, in which price is going to be fair game. Every now and then I'm even interested in a piece of software.

The trolling in here isnt even about the price. They dont like the concept.

Yeah, DMK never really trolls.
His joke comments usually stick inside of sales threads and the OTT, which is fair game.

Fair enough about your PS3 comments. However, it's hard for people to really embrace the concept of this when, like I stated before, you can get the same/better results (albeit less fun (in your opinion)) through cheaper means.

This way everyone wins:
Fatties* want this to lose weight, gamers want this to have fun. Fatty gamers want this to lose weight and have fun. If they see enough shiny happy marketing or get swept up in the word-of-mouth campaigns like the rest of the Wii family, they will feel totally justified paying $90. Fatties pay significantly more for excersize DVDs and equipment that sit and gather dust, and gamers pay significantly more over time for a collection of games that never get played for more than a couple hours.

* Fatty is a technical term and is the currently preferred nomenclature. In time, this may change or perhaps be reclaimed so as to no longer be a slur, but for the time being we must use this term.

Oh yeah, and I'm buying this and We Ski on day one because going skiing is too damn expensive anymore. No one's brought that up yet.

I've read that, and the minimal loss can be attributed to many other things. I can lose minimal weight from just climbing the stairs up and down of my apartment for half an hour a day.

If anything, it'll make you slightly more "fit" from extended use.

Remember that "fit" does not equal "weight".

wiifitfinal_uniqloSide.jpg

I'd like some of that minimal weight loss.

He was, by his own account, more fit. He had more energy, smaller belly, etc.

Look, I try to work out at my gym 2 times a week, but I often don't make it. If I have to stare at my fat Mii every morning and a chart going in the wrong direction, its going to motivate me to make better choices through the day. I happen to believe that the cardio routines will be a good substitute for the gym for days when I can't really get out of the house to work out.

This is something I can do when I get home from work at midnight. This is something I can do while I'm watching my two children. I think it will help me lose weight, be more fit, and be healthier.
