Wii Freeloader Released

I figured it wouldn't do it. But hey it was worth asking.

Well i think it's time to order a freeloader and enjoy import games.

I also think that Datel can find a workaround if nintendo updates and tried to block the freeloader.

Of course they'll eventually bypass it if an update disabled the current Freeloader, however it would also require you to buy the new version of the Freeloader. There isn't a free way to update your disc. Thats my gripe with Datel saying they don't have a problem with updates. When/if you're eventually screwed, you'll have to continuously get the newest version.

I also think its debatable whether Nintendo intentionally blocked the Freeloader the first time. They have much bigger problems in the form of all the new modchips that keep popping up on the market.

Took them awhile to actually ship, ordered back when I saw this thread and they only now got it out the door. By comparison ncsx shipped out my copy of Naruto after 1 day, i'll have that by tomorrow while the FL won't get here until Thursday

Yeah mine just shipped as well. I e-mailed them about it, and was told that they "were backordered when I ordered." It would of been nice to of had some indication of that on their website, or like send me an e-mail... but whatever.

I actually already have my copy of Eyeshield, ordered both at the same time and I got Eyeshield a few days ago which ships from Hong Kong.

From what I gather it uses the exploit to boot up that's just been released to beat the encryption. So next firmware update is could be rendered useless. Right now the exploit isnt doing much, but Nintendo would want to fix that before it becomes something big.

Looks like i'm in the same boat, previous we shipped emails were all lies, package really just shipped today, won't get here until Monday.

DbzBT3 forced me to do an update, it would load the game but not give me the option to click on anything or get into the game, i could stare at the title screen, i updated and said screw the old freeloader, thats why i kept my gc, now i am going to have to pick and choose my games so i can get the jap naruto games
Nothing on the Wii seems like it's worth importing, so I'm not going to pick this up... probably for a long while.
DDR if the Japanese songlist is different.

I was thinking the same thing, going to have to be a bit more careful about what I pick up from here on out, picking up the gundam wii game as well. Though i'm a little surprised by that one, you would think it would have been released here already

Where did you order your copy of Eyeshield from? I'm trying to get it for around $30-40 and ebay seems like the only option. Used though.

I got my hands on Naruto Shippuuden 2 this weekend, that game was so fun. Definitely worth importing. I have no clue how far the anime is in the US but I doubt we'll see it come here anytime soon.

Got it today and worked like a charm, kinda weird how it distorts the wii screen for a second but whatever. Love Naruto ex2 but man, the requirements for unlocking characters is just insane. 500 matches for Asuma?!

Play-Asia, it was $19.99 when I ordered it on Feb 28th. Looks like they bumped it back up to full price unfortunately.

Got my Freeloader in the mail today.

And yeah, it's pretty weird how it distorts the screen while it loads. It loaded up Eyeshield just fine, one weird thing though is that once I got done playing I left my Wii on the menu and the disc drive started going kind of crazy, it sounded like it was trying to load something and the blue slot started glowing off and on (no I didn't have a message). But beyond that, good stuff.

Also, if Nintendo releases a firmware that disables it... you're shit out of luck. They even have a little manual in the case that says that you have to determine whether or not upgrading is worth losing the Freeloader ability. But the Freeloader itself is made so that it disables the update program that is built into the game disc, I think you might have to use the Freeloader with U.S. games as well to prevent it from updating the firmware from the disc. It doesn't block the update automatically though, you have to insert the Freeloader, let it load, eject it and then insert it again, eject it, and then finally put your game in. Kind of a hassle, but I want to be able to play imports damnit.

Dang.

Thanks for the information. I was tempted, but definitely want the console updates (and don't want to go through that hassle).

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Maybe they'll bring out a version 2 that will come with an SD card so that you can update the firmware of the freeloader after each Wii system update.

Keep in mind if you try to run newer games with the incorrect firmware there could be problem.

The freeload uses the exploit. If nintendo block it they would need to find another one and it wont be easy. There is no way to upade the firmware as it is on a disc

I would imagine that there would be a way by which the disc would look to the sd card for the newest version of the freeloader software - in much the same way that games like Excite Truck and Endless Ocean look for .mp3 files.

If that's possible then I see no reason why the new version couldn't be loaded into the Wii memory. Surely they don't expect everyone to purchase a new, retail, version of the Freeloader every couple of months.

Having said that, there's a reason why I'm not a programmer.

Excite Truck and Endless Ocean access at the SD slot in-game. That is irrelevant. Currently nothing on from the Main Wii Menu accesses the SD slot that could "update" or help the current Freeloader.

And of course they expect people to buy a new version of the Freeloader if the first one stops working. Thats business. The first one had like 3 versions.
Excite Truck and Endless Ocean access at the SD slot in-game.
Actually, that was my point. I'm hoping for a system whereby you would boot the Freeloader and then have it load the newest version (which would probably need to be nothing more than a few lines of code) from the SD card.

Huge difference running mp3 in game and running homebrew from sd card.

It doesn't work that way. When a firmware update disables the Freeloader the disc won't load at all. Thats the problem when they're not official discs. Since it won't load theres no room for modification, besides the fact that it won't be able to access the SD slot to being with.

From what I read about the Freeloader it used an exploit that could also be used to play pirated games. If that's true I'm not surprised that Nintendo fixed the exploit, not necessarily because Nintendo really cares about the small amount of people who import, but because they don't want people to play pirated games on the Wii.

I haven't read anything about that, as far as I know it's not possible to play backups with it.

Interesting that Mario Kart doesn't work with it, not that I had any intention of importing it. But if it's some fix they put in place intentionally, I'd imagine a firmware update that makes it useless for all games is not too far behind.

^No the Freeloader doesn't let you play backup copies of games, since they would of been sued by Nintendo if it was able to, but the exploit in the Wii's firmware that the Freeloader uses to let you play games from any region can also be used to play illegal copies of games.

the exploit doesnt allow you to play backups (yet) However you can run emulator which is bad for VC

NCSX.com says otherwise. They say if you have a Wii with firmware 3.1U (up to the Smash brawl update), and you use the freeloader it works just fine. I guess play-asia didn't try all configurations before saying that it wouldn't work.

Just a little heads up guys.

A free homebrew app was released that is suppose to work like the freeloader using the Twilight exploit.

Its called Gecko Region Free
Removed the link
I dont see why as its not able to play pirated games, only foreign region ones.
CAG rules state that you can't trade anything that plays backups or imports, so I guess the same would apply to downloads.

Theres some other cool stuff on the homebrew front coming. Theres actually a Homebrew channel you can install now through the Twilight Hack. They're also starting to crack VC games. Its not an easy task since the method takes a lot of work. Don't think it'll be widespread either since everyone who has a modded Wii has an emulator disc with everything anyway.

OK, I guess.
I thought it was only things that promoted piracy, but the link is removed to protect myself.
It can be found easily enough.

I forget the title but that game was praised for its Katamari-like gameplay. Its like a big yellow dude knocking down things in the world like they're dominos.

It works it just doesnt work with some games.
Geko and Freeloader go about it in different ways.
Id recommend looking up a compatibility list.
Does the freeloader still work? There's no point in buying one otherwise I suppose.
Apparently the last firmware update Nintendo released does fix the exploit that the freeloader uses to let you play games from any region, but the fix hasn't been applied yet. I would wait until the next firmware update before buying a freeloader, because they might very well apply the fix in the next firmware update.

What are you guys talking about? I have no idea what this is, but it sounds great to me. Where do I get one?

Took me a minute to find it but its called Go! Go! Minon

Don't expect it to come over here. Regarding the Freeloader going defunct or not, the free homebrew way will be the easy solution. I've been toying around with the Twilight Hack stuff and theres some cool stuff out there, but to discuss it would bring infractions to all. ;)

If Freeloader wont work Geko will.
Gecko Region Free uses a different exploit and will still work.
Plus its free!

I'd buy it if it were $19.99.

I'll have to see if I can get the homebrew equivalent of Freeloader working for me, then just hawk my retail Freeloader before updates disable it.
