Some people have been asking about preordering the Wii. Right now there are two confirmed locations about where one can jump on the boat early.

I will update the post as more pre-orders (hopefully) start up. Good hunting!

I am a manager at a gamestop in michigan. We as a store have yet to hear about anything about taking preordes on Wii until nintendo allots quantities to the company. As far as the PS3 goes the company said they were going to wait until after the managers conference in the end of september to decide about that. Until now I have not heard or seen anything about the September 18th trade in only preorder on both systems. It is possible that this is only a small test run in Hawaii.

I am just as confused as all of you
My store isn't running this promotion and no one knows anything about it. So if it is for real, it's a Hawaii only thing, which is very possible considering they will probably get a very small amount of PS3s and Wiis.
Yeah, I was just thinking how much it must cost the makers to ship out consoles to states like alaksa and hawaii
How long are people planning to wait in line at this point, and what stores are recommended?
I offered this information within this post. Cut and paste:
For those of y'all who have not yet done a midnight release of a system, don't get there at midnight. Get at your Wally at least THREE hours early. Some folks arrived at their walmart over six hours early. Depending on your Walmart (I recommend asking the management of the specific store you'll be hitting a week to two weeks in advance) if they'll be doing first-come, first-served sales OR Lottery sales of the consoles.

First-come First-served is self explanatory, and the reason some folks camp out in the Layaway area (generally where they'll have chairs set up for the midnight hunters) as early as 4 or 5pm (yes, some folks wait 8 hours). You get their really early, and they give you a slip of paper or some tag to indicate you have one guranteed. If the store has 24 units of the Wii to sell at Midnight, the first 24 folks to show are given a tag, and they then wait till midnight to actually buy the product.

The Lottery system is when you arrive between certain hours (determined by managment, which is another reason you'll want to contact them) along with everyone else in town and are given a number. Say "187." Then at midnight, if they have 24 units to sell, they draw 24 numbers and if they draw your number, you get to buy a unit.

My local Wallys did the FCFS for the gamecube/xbox release, and lottery for the 360. I'm a fan of FCFS, as I see it as a more fair way of doing things, and less chaotic. We're all gamers, this happens once a year at the most and we know in advance when it'll happen. We're able to put our time off requests in way ahead of time so we'll be able to take a day off if you feel you need it. And while it can be crowded and uncomfortable, you simply sit and read a book or pull out the DS or PSP or whatever is socially acceptable for passing the time in a public building.

That's what I usually do but I was thinking of going the preorder route. Of course knowing Nintendo there will probably be a bunch of consoles. :)
Personally, I keep checking with my local GameRush/BlockBuster. They did presells on the 360 and they had a lot fewer people on their waiting list than typical game shops. Most likely because fewer people think of pre-ordering a console from Blockbuster GameRush.
theres still no proof that this deal may not spread nationwide, maybe there wanting to see what kind of response it gets in Hawaii first.
And there is no proof that it will.

My fellow CAGs, can we all get a grip here? We have through our own manner of investigation and deduction, based on the facts at hand and wisdom guided by experience come to the following conclusion:

The $50 Trade-In Pre-Sell Requirement is currently Hawaii only.

Why worry over something you have no control over? And something that ultimately isn't a huge deal. If EBGS sees the pre-sell requirement as a success in Hawaii, they may expand the trade-in pre-sell requirement to the next gen console releases, but more than likely, not this go 'round. At that point, if you don't like the deal, don't do business with them.

And to answer a question that seems to be repeated within this thread, when EBGS states Game/Accessory Trade Ins, that includes game consoles and hand-held consoles.
It is a huge deal for me and I worry because there will only be 5 ps3 consoles per Gamestop on Launch Day and I need 1 ps3 to sell it on ebay and make $3000 in profit and then buy a 46 inch DLP Samsung TV and a Wii... (I am a broke ass dude who needs his nice TV and a Wii... gotta do what I have to do!!!) ;)

Thanks for the topic update, and for linking to my original post.

I updated my original post with any and all relevant information pertaining to this issue, including confirmation of this happening in Hawaii.

When Monday comes, I'm going to head down and pre-order a Wii, but I'll also take a few pictures of the event in progress, and let everyone know how well this actually went.

And now I'm off to organize more games to sell on Monday, and plan. T_T

Uh huh. To anyone who truly has that attitude (I get that you're kidding, oasis), I suggest volunteering a couple nights a week at a soup kitchen, helping the guys trying to get their lives back together as they kick their addictions, or the women in a battered-womens shelter.

It might change your perspective on what's actually important in this world, and what's a self-centered desire that's fun and entertaining but pretty dang worthless when you see a world bigger than just what revolves around just you.

I did a few searches - was there any verdict on Toys R Us preorders? I saw a few people mention calling them, but no definite answers.

The world is what you make of it. You are in direct control of your life. What's the difference between those that have to depend on soup kitchens to survive and those 40 year old immigrants from 3rd world countries with 5 memeber families that cannot speak a word of english? How is it that so many immigrants can enter this country with a couple dollars to their name and absolutely no understanding of English but yet live great lives. Those that live on the streets brought it upon themselves. Why should I care because they're too lazy to go to school? Why should I care if they're stupid enough to turn to drugs? I have no pity for the majority of those people. Theres a difference between the people affected by Hurricane Katrina who had no control over the events that changed their lives, and people who dropped out of school and became herion addicts. I've experienced the poor lifestyle and the rich, and let me tell you, the later is much more fun. No one's gonna help you, you have to help urself. Wow. Just... Wow.

I guess it does make it easier for you to ignore the problem if you think that all homeless people are that way because they're just too lazy to work. Because living on the street is just sooo much easier than working for a living. Right.

Still, this is not the place to be discussing this, so I'm out.

I just got on my Toys R Us Preorder List today. I am #5. They are taking names a phone numbers, but it doesn't cost you anything to get on the list at the moment. Once preorders open in the computers then they will call you for a $50 deposit, but the guy told me I was definitley #5 in line to get it. I can't wait.

Thank you very much. I'm glad that I have been helpful and have been informative.

I feel that I owe CAG and it's community a lot, after all, it's kept me entertained and my wallet not-so-empty. Its the reason why the first place I posted the information was here. Its why I keep coming back to make sense of this thing, and why I'll continue to help out in any way possible.

The past two days have been quite interesting for me. I've never been called a liar or an idiot this much in my life. I'm glad that this community is not full of idiots, and doesn't just jump to conclusions. Thanks to everyone who actually took the time to bombard my island's GameStops with phone calls, to get the facts and to help confirm or clear up the details, and to those who actually read and interpreted the information rather than immediately calling names.

I hope everyone enjoys their games and systems, however you manage to pre-order them, and whenever you get them, in the most cheap ass way possible. After all it's really just about having fun, and I had a blast. XD

/end emo stuff.

I'm seriously considering going with FYE, though I would hate to do so since my local one is run by a bunch of crummy hispanics who don't really know what they are doing (no offense to hsipanics, beign partially hispanic myself...). It's eitehr that, or a midnight stomp since the only way I'll get one from EB/GS is by buying used titles in their store, and trading them in immediatly.

I missed the Amazon preorder. I was online for about 5 hours before it, then I left for a few hours. Come back, and they're gone. Gayest thing ever.

So I think I'm just going to brave Walmart at midnight. It's not particularly pleasant, but it has never failed me before.
A better quote would be "Ignorance is bliss."
LOL i was thinking about that quote the entire time I was taking a dump right after writing that out. Interesting comment. Anyhow 6 hours hours till i can confirm this Gamestop trade in preorder deal tomorrow.

I'm gonna see if I can snag a Wii bundle at the costco I work at, but if not hopefully my Amazon pre-order comes through.

Saw this today at my local Kauai ,Hawaii Gamestop

Please call my Gamestop at (808) 245-9010 and tell them that you think this is crazy and unexceptable. If we can stop this now in Hawaii this test by evil Gamestop will fail.

There are only about 6 Gamestops in the whole state and if we can send enough negitivity toward this insane offer it will be shut down.

Beyond finding enough games that I want to get rid of to qualify for a $50 trade in, I really would love to stick it to them by picking up a bunch of $2 or $3 sports games and just dumping them on them en masse.

"I'd like a Wii. I really hope you can get rid of these NBA Live 2005s. Thanks!"

I haven't really been following this thread, but what the heck are the guys on top of this page talking about......forget it, don't want to know. Just know it has nothing to do with gaming, so take it somewhere else.

ANYWAY, the main reason for my post is that I recently traded in some games and asked employees at two different stores about the Wii preorder. And both replied almost the same way, that the best way to make sure you get a preorder is to preorder a game. Corporate is doing an autocall to those people who have a game preordered letting them know when the preorder starts. Not that it isn't going to be linked to every forum on the internet when it happens, but just thought I'd mention it.

...how bout we harass the secretaries at microsoft too while we're at it, hell lets even harass the poor outsourced employees in india at EA for making us football fans have to choose madden every year. Every company is free to do whatever they like with their business. No one is forcing you to preorder a system. They might as well not take preorders at all and force everyone to camp out. It's their way of sticking it to the ebay flippers, and it just so turns out that some innonencent people may be affected as well, bet lets be honest, 80% or so of the people who were going to be at the top of the preorder list if this tradein deal wasnt imposed would have been those who were looking to flip the system on ebay. Now if you hate the way they're handling preorders, feel free to camp out at their store, just dont go about harassing the 19 year olds who are behind the counter with your phone calls while theyre trying to do their jobs.

im very tempted to cancel all my pre orders at EB over this, even if it does not affect me.....the company itself is still ripping off gamers and that is bullshit, i may just be going out to eb tommorrow to cancel all my pre orders and just camp out at best buy for this thing

so for people who have gone to a launch at a 24 hour walmart. How does that usually go? Do they make you wait outside the store and then only let a few people in at a time? or do they allow you to line up in the store, etc etc? anyone with experience?
so for people who have gone to a launch at a 24 hour walmart. How does that usually go? Do they make you wait outside the store and then only let a few people in at a time? or do they allow you to line up in the store, etc etc? anyone with experience?
Though I haven't been to one personally, I believe it's different store-to-store. Don't think you have to wait outside, but I think they have you form a line somewhere in the store. The easiest way to check would be to go in a few days early, and MAKE SURE you talk to the correct person in charge; probably a higher up manager. Have them tell you the procedure.

I think this is what I will be doing for both Wii and PS3.

I plan to try to get one at the 24 hour walmart at midnight, and if that fails, go across the street to the best buy and wait all night.

Does anyone have a good idea as to how long before the store opens (or for walmart how long before midnight) to start lining up?

In my Walmart (Merritt Island, Fl) they usually start the line at layaway. I was there for the Gamecube and PSP launches (which I now regret, because I hate it, but I digress). Both times, everyone there got a system. I would expect more people there for Wii, but I'm not too worried about getting one as long as I get there early enough.

Would have been nice to have no tax, though. I also get 1.57% off since I use the a9.com search engine 8 times a month, which at $250, is actually worth a few dollars compared to its usual uselessness.

Well, with the 360 launch, people were lined up at least by noon the day before launch

I love how I called several Gamestops in the area, and none of them have a clue of this deal. Whats even more funny is the fact they reccomend me pre-ordering the games for it......... how much sense does that make if I don't know if I am getting a system by the fall.

Speaking of that pre-sale I signed up for a notification of when they go on sale/pre sale....got nothing and i signed up like a week ago. $$$$$$s!

to clarify, you mean that if the launch was November 19th, people would line up on the 18th at noon? was this at best buy or walmart?

either/or .. i doubt it really matters. you're going to have to line up early if you want to go that route.

I just got back from reserving my Wii at the NWS. They are really tight lipped about it but 50 bucks gets you a preorder. No word on a midnight launch yet, but it is an inevitability and I'll be there!

Hmm, if anyone cares, I've been digging through the computers at my local Costco almost every week to see if there was a Wii or Revolution entry and there has been neither. There is an item for the Tony Hawks Wii game however.

What really bothers me is that we had the 360 in our computers a couple months before it released so I was able to know the details and all.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone up to date of what I know, when I know.

So I am assuming you volunteer twice a week helping the homeless and being a counselor to drug addicts. If that is so important to you, then why are you here in a messageboard about videogames, shouldnt you be reading about UNICEF and Dr. Phil and stuff like that? You Talk the Talk but Dont Walk The Walk... :booty:

Some of us here want a ps3 to make a profit - that is the bottom line, I dont think I am the only here who wants a ps3 to sell it on Ebay...;)

I just called my GS and he said that it's probably bogus. He said that he saw the flier online, but hasn't heard anything about it in store. He said he's working tomorrow, and it's not the sort of thing they just spring on the employees.

First, I said if that if that was a persons attitude, he ought to try doing for others, as the world is a lot bigger than one's own wants. My world doesn't revolve around myself.

But hey, I'm all about walking the walk. Which is why if you checked my profile you'd see that I am a voluntary counselor and net-admin at a local non-profit center. We are a faith based, ladies-only center which teaches ladies life and office skills to help them get their lives under control, to get off of government subsidies, and to get a job.

Why am I here instead at some other new-agey phoney bologna site? Maybe because I've been a gamer since 1979, maybe because as I do voluntary work, maybe just maybe, I lilke to use my money wisely which includes not dropping cash on full-price games.
