NO MORE SHMUPS!

Please. There's like, 2000 games to choose from for the VC, and I'm tired of side-scrolling spaceships. Do something about this, Nintendo. StarTropics was a good start - we want more.
You are a wrong person.

I half agree with this. I love me some SHMUPS but some better variety would be nice. I mean , since almost half of the Tg-16 games are shmups and about 1/5 of all the other systems seem to be shmups as well , it just seems like too much too soon. They should have better spread them out some.

I really, really like shmups but there are only a couple per system that I'd ever get around to buying because those couple would make the others redundant (for me at least).

For example, looking at the current TG-16/CD stuff, I can get Blazing Lazers, Lords of Thunder and *maybe* R-Type and I'm pretty much set. (R-Type gets the *maybe* because I already have R-Types on PS1, if I didn't, it'd be a no-brainer.)

Of the ones that are currently available, I'd say Lords of Thunder.

If you want to expand it to run and gun type games, Contra 3 and Gunstar Heroes are probably my favorites.

That's for George Lucas to decide, as I'm sure Nintendo would have to preform quite the oral services on him to let the Star Wars license be available for digital download.

Wouldn't be much of a difference from the raping Nintendo has been doing to their fans. ZING!

Ahhh... Fantasy Zone and Mega Turrican.

Remember back in the day when Wii would release about 3 games every monday, and sometimes one of the three would be good? Those were the days.

God damn it Nintendo. I mean come on.

Nintendo does not offer blowjobs to third-party developers.
Nintendo does not offer blowjobs to third-party developers.
Crap, that means it probably wasn't actually Nintendo that had me come in for that "interview".
Nintendo does not offer blowjobs to third-party developers.
As I said, they would have to for the Star Wars games. Never said they would go through with it. :p
Where the F is the snes and 64 star wars love.
On that note, has anyone else noticed that all of the N64 titles so far have been first-party? Cruis'n USA is the sole exception, but Nintendo was listed as the distributor for that title.

Does this strike anyone else as being slightly odd?
Not sure why it would. Third party games on the N64 sucked.

Joking aside, I imagine a lot of it is tied up in licensing issues. Rare's games, for example, are probably out of the question, as might be Acclaim titles since I don't know who gets to claim ownership on them. DMA Design games (which isn't much) probably falls to Rockstar now. Things like the wrestling games are pretty much SOL as far as I know.

Point being is that it's probably easier to come up with a list of third party games we'd like to see, and then find reasons why they couldn't, since that would be the best and quickest explanation.

On a different note: Fantasy Zone is fun, but I think I was envisioning FZ2 instead of 1 when I said it was really good. This one is ok, but the second should have better graphics and music.
Point being is that it's probably easier to come up with a list of third party games we'd like to see, and then find reasons why they couldn't, since that would be the best and quickest explanation.
If your gonna do that , might as well take a complete list of N64 games , remove all the first party ones , then remove all the crappy 3rd party ones. Probably won't leave you much of a list left given that the 64 only had about 300 games total.;)

But it does seem like the 64 has the worst luck in regards to old systems and games with rights hangups. I could whip out the box of all the 64 games I still have (quite a few actually) and about half of them would probably be unable to be released due to rights issues (and yes that is an open challenge if anyone wants to take me up on that).

That was entirely my point.

DDP did list two games that would be worthwhile to bring out, though. I'd get MML64 in a second, since I love that game (and I am quite aware apparently no one else does).

But seriously, after Rare and Nintendo games, what else would be worth it at all? ....I dunno, the Evangelion game? We already got Sin and Punishment.

I guess people have said Beatle Adventure Racing is good.

I figured as much.

I too would get MM64 since it was a better version of mega man legends. even if then I couldn't have both mega man legends games together on the playstation.

Resident Evil seems unneccesary. The 64 version was novel (in fact I've kept my copy for exactly that reason) but not as good as the DC , PS1 or GCN editions. Only thing that would make it worthwhile would be the price.

Let's see , good 64 games that aren't first party and not made by rare. How about:
Body Harvest , Shadow Man (both Acclaim so who knows)
Rocket (possible unless sucker punch has some kind of exclusive deal now with sony)
Castlevania (possible , but considering the current castlevania director has removed C64 from canon it doesn't seem likely)
The Turok Series (licensing issues , acclaim had the turok license before , who has it now?)

That's all I got right now , got to go through the rest of my games.
Good non-Nintendo games for N64? How about:
Mischief Makers Robotron 64
Shadow Man
Dezaemon 3D
Bangai-O
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Clayfighters 63 1/3
Mischief Makers - Totally forgot about this one. Another great game from treasure , although not as great as some of there others. I actually think this has a decent chance of showing up since several other treasure games have.

Bangai-O - Another treasure game I forgot about , although in fairness it is an import. With a DS version coming out , it'll probably be kept off much like kirby super stars.

Star Wars : Rogue Squadron - Didn't mention cause I figured it was a given , like RAREs games. Hope they do release it and it's sequel Battle for Naboo.

Clayfighter 63 1/3 - I thought clayfighter "64" was supposed to be crap? I'd be interested in clayfighter 1 and 2 though.

Beetle Adventure Racing is a great game, and I would buy it on day one if released on the virtual console, but I have my doubts that we'll ever see it. I doubt EA still has the Volkswagen license.
Non-Rare non-Nintendo: VC needs Gauntlet Legends (N64). Needs it hard.

even with alot of N64 hate, Hybrid Heaven would rock on the VC.
I would second both of these. My friend had hybrid heaven and I was wanted to play it. Gauntlet Legends was ok , but the levels often ran on way too long.

I actually beat the arcade version of Gauntlet Legends at a bowling alley near my house back in '99. You could save your progress (awesome feature) and at the end it would tell you how many credits you used. I think my total was over 40 dollars. Go Blue Valkyrie!

I've been playing- and enjoying- gunstar heroes and sin & punishment lately. Gunstar heroes is great for co-op, and would be a perfect couples game. Realy liking S&P, but I'm puzzled. Why does the wii menu screen say it has ''1-2 players''?. As far as I've played, its only 1 player

to add some others for n64:

wwf no mercy
wcw revenge
doom 64
quake 64
ridge racer
crusin world
bomberman 64 (the one never released in USA)
tony hawk pro skater
mortal kombat 4
quest 64
to name some...

River City Ransom is coming
Aksys has confirmed to IGN that it is delivering three NES beat 'em ups to the Virtual Console soon. First up is the beloved River City Ransom, arriving next week. Double Dragon and Renegade will follow in each successive week.

River City Ransom features the same Kunio-Kun characters found in Renegade and Super Dodge Ball. All three games were developed by Technos in Japan.

Double Dragon follows Billy Lee, a buff vigilante who fights his way through numerous thugs and crime bosses to save his girlfriend.

Double Dragon was missing the co-op mode on the NES (as opposed to the rocking Aracade game -- there were a number of other differences in the NES game as well, both positive and negative, but since only one version's being offered here, either enjoy it or get an Xbox 360 for the XBLA version) but it did have scrolling levels, as opposed to Renegade's mostly stationary levels. Both have punches, kicks, and bad guys who deserve to be punched and kicked.

Renegade follows Mr. K, a buff vigilante who fights his way through numerous thugs and crime bosses to save his girlfriend.
Oh you better believe I'm jumping on River City Ransom. I guess I can scratch that one off my VC wishlist. Now all I have to do is wait for Super Dodge Ball and Crash 'n the boys street challenge.

All the above sound good. You say the bomberman 64 that was never released? We got three of them , which one didn't we get? We got 64 , Hero and 64 2nd attack. I would like all three 64 bomberman games , as well as all 5 snes bomberman games.

OMG. DOUBLE DRAGON. Now thems was good times. I remember playing that all the way through with my cousin and laughing at glitches where enemies would get stuck or just keep falling off a cliff. X3
Oh man, RRR is so good I may have to buy it twice.
I've got the GBA port. Would it be worth dropping five bucks for the original? I got the GBA one used, and never was quite able to figure out what the fuck was going on in it - it carried stats over between plays, but not locations, and seemed like a jumbled mess. :whistle2:k

I should give it another shot someday.
I'm still holding out hope that we get the TG16 port of Double Dragon, which is the best version outside of the original arcade.
If we can get that along with the NES versions, then sure. If we can only get one version, then I want the NES versions, as those are the ones I remember and grew up playing.

When Double Dragon was announced for 360, I was so excited, and then I saw it was the arcade version which I had never played before. I didn't like it at all, a lot of which probably had to do with the fact that there was no nostalgia to it.

No one has yet mentioned Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon and Mystical Ninja: Goemon's Great Adventure. Also, Space Station Silicon Valley.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I spent long hours with both the arcade and NES versions so they both hold a place in my heart.

By the way, I looked up information on the TG16 version and realized that it was actually DDII that I remembered. In that case, the NES version of DD may be the best port, regardless of nostalgia. I've played the SMS version and it was terrible in spite of its co-op mode.

too bad the wii can't port arcade games.

double dragon and strider from the arcades would be awesome.

and the gun game terminator II using the wii zapper would be freakin sweet

I still waiting battletoad, tmnt II, rivercity ransom, double dragon II & III and turtles in time. Also some of old metal gears might be nice too. Come on....

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

Helping out your friends is often as easy as a ride to the airport or a kind word of advice. But when they fall victim to dastardly kidnappers, things get a little more complicated. Step up and find out what it takes to rescue your imperiled pals in the latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel. Both of these classic titles feature distinctive rescue-driven storylines and villain-busting action to help bring out your inner hero. Isn’t that what friends are for?

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

River City Ransom™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Mild Suggestive Themes and Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): River City Ransom takes place in River City, where our heroes, Alex and Ryan, find a letter on Ryan’s locker from a guy named Slick. The letter says that Ryan’s girlfriend, Cyndi, has been kidnapped, and Slick has taken River City hostage with the help of countless gangs and evil bosses. It’s up to our heroes to save poor Cyndi and free River City from the clutches of Slick and his underlings. You can play as Alex and take on the challenge alone or battle with two players simultaneously as Alex and Ryan. Kick and punch to fight your way through gang members, evil bosses and other goons, or use a variety of weapons including a chain whip, brass knuckles and a tire, to name a few. Raise your stats by eating right, and gain new techniques by reading books. With your fighting prowess and never-ending spirit, the bad guys won’t know what hit them.

Phantasy Star™ III Generations of Doom (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): As Rhys, the crown prince of the Orakian kingdom of Landen, you are engaged to be married to Maia, a woman from a rival kingdom. But Maia is kidnapped on your wedding day, setting you on a quest filled with twists and turns that will reintroduce you to people and places from previous Phantasy Star games. This epic spans several generations of characters, and your choices will dramatically impact the way the story unfolds, which makes it a great game to play all the way through more than once. In Phantasy Star III, things aren’t always what they seem—check it out and watch the mysteries unfold.

I will def try RCR. PHIII? Meh (to me at least!)
