This reminds me, why have we forgotten to put Mutant League Football on our most wanted lists? EA could probably use the version they put on the PSP's EA Replay. It was one of the few sports games that non-sports fans seemed to love.
Might wanna know that Cheetahmen was an April Fools' joke.
It was a long week, sorry.
I'll get around to updating that today.

Damnit, now I really want some Mutant League on the VC. Thanks for reminding me, rapsodist.

I didn't know they were developing a Mutant League Basketball as well, that would of been awesome.
It was one of the few sports games that non-sports fans seemed to love.
As someone who fits perfectly in that group, you are correct. Don't forget Mutant League Hockey too.

I always had way more fun with mutant league hockey than in football.

Wii would like to play quality super nintendo and 64 games now.

Looks like a few new import games have appeared on Australia's ratings system, signaling a possible worldwide VC release for each of the games in the distant future. There's one notable title that sticks out in the list; a well-known PC-Engine Super-CD (Turbo CD/Duo) title that stayed within Japan's shores for over 10 years. It has already made its way to a Sony system and the Japanese VC, and I'm sure all of you will be proud to make a first-day purchase of...

I think I'm going to gift Cho Aniki to everyone.

Except Lilboo, for that will make the irony much sweetier and tangier.

I COULD HAVE SAID SALTIER. SHUT UP.
Oh come now, you would have already bought it before Strell got around to gifting it anyway.

Have any games with passwords been put on the VC yet? I'm assuming those would be supported, but one never knows. I'm thinking specifically about Bases Loaded (2). I think I'm some 130 games into a season there that's lasted me a good 15 years, so I'm hoping when that one shows up on VC, I can just take up where I left off.

Kid Icarus and Metroid both used passwords... if that's what you're talking about.

Metroid and Punch-out have both been released, and apparently, their old passwords still work. Kid Icarus has been the only one that I know of that had its password system altered for the VC release.

I wonder what the press release will be like for tomorrow? It may be something related to baseball, since the new season began last week...and insert "cookie" joke here.

(Lame attempt @ humor) Lilboo, want a cookie?

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

The arrival of April means springtime fun is officially back in season. To get Wii™ Shop Channel patrons in the spirit, we’re pleased to offer a pair of lively NES® favorites. One is a breezy, puzzle-busting fantasy, the other a classic baseball title to keep sports fans fired up for a new season of nine-inning excitement. Whether your tastes run toward cookies or ballpark snacks, you’ll find hours of gaming enjoyment right at your fingertips.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Yoshi’s Cookie™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Take one part puzzle game, combine with intuitive game play, add a pinch of multiplayer action and top with a layer of everyone’s favorite dinosaur. Mix together and let set for roughly 100 stages’ worth of time. If that sounds like a winning recipe to you, then step into the kitchen and get ready for a batch of fast-paced puzzle action. Hunker down to move rows and columns of randomly placed cookies in an effort to align all the cookies of the same type. Successfully assemble a row or column to make the line disappear, then move to a new one. If you’re good enough, you may even be able to make a Yoshi cookie appear! Feel like taking on a friend? Fire up the two-player mode, where you can attack your opponent while competing to match as many cookies as possible. Be careful, though—if your timing is off, you could end up attacking yourself. Who knew dinosaurs had such a weakness for puzzle games and sweets?

Bases Loaded (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Bases Loaded is a baseball game with an arcade feel and plenty of options from which players can choose. Select one of 12 teams, set your lineup from the 30 players available (each with different strengths), then play a single game or try to win the pennant. During game play, the screen shows two different viewpoints: one from behind home plate as you’re batting, and the other from the pitching mound in a television-style shot (unique for its time) as your team plays in the field. Strong play control and excellent graphics add to the excitement as you decide what pitch to throw (you can even try to provoke the opposing batter into charging the mound), control all positions on the field, or do your best to get a hit. So step to the plate and find out why this is one of the most popular baseball games on the NES. Can you pull through in the clutch?

I never had Cho Aniki on my dream list because I never thought there was a chance in hell it would come here. I'm still skeptical, but uh, I am excited. A tent has been pitched.

Is the Internet Channel worth the 500 points it costs?

I'm planning on buying 1000 points to get Yoshi's Cookie, but I can't think of any other NES games I'd like to get with it that I don't already own. Some of the SNES titles are tempting, but that'd mean I'd have to spend an extra ten bucks to get one...but it would mean I could finally play Super Metroid, The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, or Donkey Kong Country 2 or 3. :whistle2:k

The Internet Channel's not that great. I got it free within the first year. It'll get the job done, and works well with YouTube. Make sure you have a USB keyboard to use with it if you decide to go that route.

I'd say hold onto your 500 points and wait for something else you're interested come up, or snag one of those evergreen titles like SMB3 or DKJ Math.
Is the Internet Channel worth the 500 points it costs?
Yes, if you have a big TV hooked up to your Wii. You could stream videos if you don't have another device that does that. But there isn't much use for it. Some flash games on are pretty neat, but they aren't worth it. Also it's a pain in the ass to read a site like CAG because when you zoom in to read text you have to scroll horizontally to read a post. Really depends on how much streaming video you want to do.

I would say it's worth it if you plan on watching a lot of YouTube. It comes in handy when you want to a show a few people a video at once, much better than everyone huddling around the PC.

I would say it's worth it for almost anything. I love it and it's the only Internet I use at home. The text and photo scaling abilities have always really impressed me - I've never had a problem reading CAG on a 32" LCD. And it's fast. It's the fastest browser we have in the house between all our many Internet-capable devices.
Bases Loaded is a great game. I'm always Jersey because of good pitching, Ace, and a killer 3-4 punch, Bay and Paste. I'll pick this one up if it comes here.
**HINT!!!**
Did you know you could always get guys who were on first out by letting the ball sit in the outfield and taking control of the outfielders, carefully inching them away from the ball until the runner attempts to tag up and take second? The instant they commit, rush to the ball and throw them out.

I was alway Jersey, too. Paste had that bad-ass hitting stance and Bay was a dangerous hitter, also. I could usually get on with Ryder hitting lead-off. And I would pitch Rose and Scott.

I can't believe I remember all this. I even remember the music. Both of them, in fact! I even remember the notes that would hold when the screen changed and the music stalled.

Time for another recommendation question: how is Kid Icarus? I've heard it's a lot like the old-school Metroid titles, which means I'd probably like it, but the franchise was alien to me up until Brawl came out.

If it's decent, that's probably a good use for my remaining 500 points - I can't imagine any NES games coming out soon I'd rush out to buy, and it's one of the few that I've never owned or played before. My TV kind of sucks, so the Internet CHannel may not be the best choice.

Wow. I remember playing with my dad back in the day, but...damn. You've still got the names down.

That said, I do remember the umps: Yuck, Dum, Boo, and Bum. :)

This really deserves it's own thread, but I guess I have to put it here.

I don't care who you are or what you think, but this is groin-grabbingly good news. Tell Tale working on it + Strong Bad, one of the greatest cartoon characters ever.

It would be like if waffles could be married to candy - just a bunch of awesome all wrapped up in even more awesome, making it awesomer.
I wasn't that excited about it, but then I realized that Telltale's developing it. This has the potential for amazing levels of pure AWESOME.

I honestly had no idea that Homestar Runner was still up and running. I think the last time I visited that website was at least four years ago! The fact that Telltale is working on the game is enough to make me interested though.

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

Danger may not be your middle name, but you’ll find plenty of it in this week’s additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel. Two classic side-scrolling action titles invite players to blast and battle their way to a thrilling climax. In a spaceship or an assault suit, it’ll take all the grit and gusto you can muster to survive these perilous, heart-pumping adventures.

Fantasy Zone (Sega Master System, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Take command of the spaceship Opa-Opa and blast your way through various fantastical levels as you try to take out all the enemy bases in each stage. Once you’ve destroyed the bases, you’ll have to beat the stage boss in order to move on to the next level. By using your guns and bombs wisely, you’ll be able to take down your enemies and explore each of the crazy environments in this side-scroller. You can also buy upgraded weapons for your ship by accessing the shop. Various Sega games through the years have referenced the Opa-Opa—now you can play the game that started it all.

Mega Turrican (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The Machine has enslaved the galaxy under its tyrannical rule. As Bren McGuire, the last survivor of the United Freedom Forces, it is your duty to destroy the evil forces of the Machine that have devastated the galaxy. Fight through countless hordes of enemies using everything at your disposal. Use the weapons and power-ups of your Turrican Assault Suit, including the incredible Plasma Rope, to fight back the tide of oncoming enemies and find the health and power-ups that will keep you alive. Fifteen levels of chaos and destruction stand between you and freedom.

I've heard great things about Fantasy Zone. I may try this.

Another week to save my points for Wiiware. Thanks liboo...

NO MORE SHMUPS!

Please. There's like, 2000 games to choose from for the VC, and I'm tired of side-scrolling spaceships. Do something about this, Nintendo. StarTropics was a good start - we want more.
