It's about damn time NoA. I can't be mad though. This is probably my favorite VC/Wii Ware update ever. I never imagined Family Ping Pong would come out so fast despite already being in English.

Toki Tori will probably be next week. Having two big games at the same time probably didn't make a lot of sense to them.

If they're releasing Metal Slug, then that whole argument for Mega Man not coming out is thrown out the window. I think NoA really enjoys seeing us suffer.
If Nintendo's going to keep spacing out the big releases, I'm fine with that as long as we keep getting games that are at least decent every week. If Toki Tori or Pokemon Ranch come out next week, then I can be excited for the update all over again. :D

Mega Man could happen...but again, there's already a compilation with more games and more features available. The controls were a bit wonky (jump and shoot should've been reversed from what they were), but they worked.

If you buy the Ping Pong game, let us know what you think.

I agree that NOA likes to make us suffer. We still don't have Vectorman, despite Europe having it since last February. And it was promised to us...last February, as it was in an issue of the then good Nintendo Power.

275 blocks for Family Ping Pong with save.
93 blocks for Dr. Mario with save.

Looks like I'm going to have to delete a game.
Dr Mario the NES version or the 'new and improved' one?
The review from that VC Review site boo posted a few pages back seemed to suggest it was almost an exact replica of the NES (plus online multiplayer), they even commented that it'd be a tough call to recommend it at 1000 points over the original NES one at 500 if it came out on the VC.

Those final numbers or pre-download?

Honestly, the online multiplayer is enough for me.

I don't know if we'll see the NES (or N64) versions released on the Virtual Console; given that the GBA got the original in the Classic NES series and a remake on a cartridge with Puzzle League, it wouldn't be unprecedented to get both.

Dr. Mario's multiplayer requires friend codes. Do you guys think we need a separate thread for that? I'm willing to maintain it if you think it's necessary. :whistle2:k

As soon as I'm done cleaning/shredding papers, I'm going to buy the game. Impressions once I play for a while, though I think we all know what we're getting into. :)
Those final numbers or pre-download?
Pre-downloaded, add 1 for each game's save.

Family Ping Pong initial impressions :

Everything is there, except for the option to choose Japanese for menus. Even the voices are still in Japanese which I always love. It's ping pong so there's not much to explain. The controls are Wii Sports controls, and feels like a lighter version of Wii Sports Tennis. You shake the Wiimote when you lose balance, and when the opponent loses balance, you hold "B" while swinging and you'll pull off the special move. I can see how that will piss off some people if someone is using the special move constantly. The ball sounds are pretty amazing, and sounds like an actual ping pong game is being played.

It's worth 500 points if you liked Wii Sports Tennis and want something new.

They're wrong - it's not an exact replica the way VC games are. It has Miis well-integrated and supports 480p and 16:9. It's faithful in all the ways that matter (pacing, gameplay, music) and has the added multiplayer bonus.

Ping Pong is clunky. The graphics clip a lot and volleys can go on way too long. I guess if you really like Ping Pong it's worth $5, but I'd stick with Wii Sports tennis if you just want a game where you swing your arm at the right time.
Blasted friend codes. Even Dr. Mario has them... Ugh.

Here's mine in case anyone wants to play: 3803-6259-3283.
I hate to say this, but I think Dr. Mario with friends codes = fail.

I haven't noticed any clipping, but I agree that some people should just stick with Wii Sports. You have to like the art style to really like the game. It's Wii Sports with a few mini-games.

Single Play : You go against each member of the family, so it's three matches. You get different stages for all of the matches. There's no difficulty setting in this game, so it's pretty easy to beat. You can change the point and set amount. Points can go to 6,11, and 21. Sets can be made up to 3. Takes about 10 minutes to beat, and you get a "Congratulations" screen at the end.

VS : Only 2 players obviously. You can play solo in this mode as well as with a friend. You can choose from 4 characters (You can do this in all modes), Billy, Sarah, Mommy, and Daddy. Side note: That family has some hot chicks. There's 4 stages to choose from, Gymnasium, Forest Park, Beach, and Amusement Park. Fun for a quick match.

Mini-games :

Target TT : Hit the red target on the table. The close your ball lands the more points you get. Takes a minute to get used to, but I find it really fun. It's also a great way to train.

Thrilling TT : It's a regular match of ping pong, but you get points by how many rallies (Times you hit the ball in a single play) you get. First to 99 points is the winner. Fun, but it's better just to go play some regular ping pong.

Matching TT : The table is split in half. One side has an orange picture, the other an apple picture. Apple and oranges fall from the sky on the left and right, and you have to hit the fruit to the appropiate side. It's a game of timing and skill. The sooner you hit a fruit, the more diagonal it will go. Hit it right before it passes you and it will stay on the side it fell from. I really enjoy this one, and see myself spending a good hour on it.

Like I said previously, the only option is to turn off the voice, which are in Japanese.

Forgot to mention the music. It's really upbeat and soothing. It's what you would expect from this type of game.
I hate to say this, but I think Dr. Mario with friends codes = fail.
Seriously? Isn't about time for people to stop whining about this (and using "fail" earnestly)? It obviously is how it is, so learn to work within their system. It's got the same online options as Tetris DS, which was fantastic. No, it is not Live, but if you want that then play an XBOX. If you can't get past this very simple hurdle, than I guess you can't enjoy Dr. Mario online (which doesn't actually require friend codes to play online).

Anyway, my Dr. Mario friend code is:

2237 3076 4051
So there's the option to play random people in Dr. Mario?
Yes.

Dr. Mario FC : 2880 3524 0680

Here's what I suggest if you want to play Dr. Mario just online, and just against friends. Although this MAY not be permanent, you could just copy the game to an SD card, and in case it gets deleted, reload the game. It seems like a really easy way to get the game for free. Or at least a major component.

I've accepted it for Wii games. But for the VC/WW I was expecting something better. Like how the Mario Kart channel works, I just invite a friend off of my address book and away we go.

There was a chance to make things a little bit better and they didn't do it.

I picked this up... I finally had to move some VC games to an SD card - it's killing me :( I moved Excite Bikle and Castlevania IV. I realize that there's not much more I want to be moving, and I'm getting irritated :p Even Lost WInds, which I finished, I think I'll want to go back to on an impulse... *sigh* Here's hoping they announce soemthign at E3... when IS E3 anyway?

Anyhow, Dr. Mario FC: 2671 9598 5274

I just played a random battle online and I sucked so hard, I just had to give up and let the viruses take me  The controls seem a lot twitchier than my GameCube version? and things seem to move faster, too? I think I'll have to get used to this.

It amazes me that Dr. Mario is only 90 blocks, and has so many options, and Okiraku is massive and has few options.

The Dr. Mario demo and Dr. Mario while compatible are on entirely different channels, save blocks are different, etc.

I'm impressed with how quickly the WFC portion of Dr. Mario moves. Very little "connecting" time and it's quick to make matches. I also like being able to say "Neener neener", no matter how inappropriate to the situation it is. I can see my friends' rankings, but I haven't tried a friend match. Or really any other part of the game for that matter. Anyone try "Flash" yet?

I haven't tried flash in a Wi-Fi match. I know I'd suck at flash when playing against other people. I do like the mode, but I find it to be too quick compared to classic.

After seeing how this and MK do online, it really does make me wonder what the hell happened to Brawl.

Boo - since you're our WiiWare guinea pig, I sent you a copy of the demo. :)

Now, my impressions of the game: I like it. A lot.

Online play works flawlessly, and it's matched me up with people around my skill level every time. The winner is determined by who gets rid of the viruses first, and chaining virus removals will drop random blocks onto your opponent's screen. Simple, but it works well.

The single player Dr. Mario mode is pretty much unchanged, but given that it was a good puzzle game to begin with that isn't a bad thing.

I like the Virus Busters mode. It works very well with the Wiimote, and almost felt like a different game to me because the pacing, control scheme, and (to an extent) strategy are all a bit different.

The title is simple, but it's a classic puzzle game and it plays just as well now as it ever has. Good game design and online play? I consider my $10 well-spent. :D

I really wish I knew. Mario Kart and Dr. Mario work; Brawl...just doesn't.

I'll be grabbing Dr. Mario soon. Also going to gift it to my dad - he got a system for Christmas but barely ever uses it, but I know he loves Dr. Mario (used to play it on the NES back in the day). Maybe I'll get to play him in Wifi someday.

I'll get a FC and post it up when I get a chance.
Anybody cool enough to give me a demo of Dr. Mario?
I'll send you one cause I'm cool! You'll have to add me to your Wii, 7323 4304 8861 6764

I don't think our consoles are friends, but I would if you add me.

*edit* Never mind - Okari beat me to it. I added your console anyway. If you feel like having my dirty Miis show up in your Mario Kart races, you can add my console I guess.
so if I never enjoyed Dr. Mario I'm guessing this won't change my mind.
Nope.

You know, you troll around in pretty much every Nintendo related thread except No More Heroes.

I'm thinking maybe the system as a whole isn't for you, aye?

first time I've been referred to as a troll, but i guess I can agree since it's pretty damn true. I love my NMH and it's 90% of why I still have a Wii, but the VC is a large other factor.

I'll try and be less hate and more Wii masturbate then >_

Awesome Dr. Mario did get released. I am tempted to get it but I have no blocks to store it , and deleting games is becoming less of an option since the games I love but haven't finished yet are on the system currently. A small annoyance happened to me with the VC today. I was browsing through the VC and found Kirby 64 had an update. So I click update and it says I don't have the 154 blocks or whatever but Kirby 64 is on my system. So I guess when you update they just don't patch it they just give you a whole new version :bomb:.

Already have your Mii on MKWii. You used to be titsface but you changed it to a turd I think.

I'm interested in trying out Dr. Mario on WiiWare as well...

If anyone wants to hook up a fellow cag,
here's my wii fc: 3733 9335 8263 0679

Thanks in advance.

If wikipedia is to be belived, only online play with your badass demo sending friend when you have the demo. Meaning you'd both have to be online at the same time. :whistle2:(

Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't that how all online works?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't that how all online works?
Yes, but if this were any other company there'd be at least like one level you could play on the demo when your bestestestest friend wasn't online.

Ahh damn, just understood what you were saying...
So for the demo, you have to be online too...that rule blows
Maybe Nintendo figures they could get others into succumbing to just buying the game, instead of investing in such a hassle ;)

Maybe. I hate that it's like 270 blocks.. yet Dr Mario is ONLY 93..wtf?
So we'll see. It looks neat, but I HATE the characters names!!! C'mon!!!

The women in that game are hot enough for me to not even notice the names.

I don't know why, but I actually like Okiraku more than Dr. Mario.
