I wonder if nintendo would ever consider releasing secret of mana 2 over here. It shouldn't take to much money to translate it. It is supposed to be even better than the first.
Also I heard that an English rom of Samurai Shodown RPG is about to come out. I wish nintendo could add that one to the VC.
Yes, you can. I've received games from Canada and vise versa.

Either the sender or receiver needs to switch their console to the other's region. I know this works for exchanging within the NA, but doubt NA > EU would work.
Really? I dont see how that would be possible, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Where is the option?

I think it works between Canada and the US because both are in North America. Games cannot be shared between EU and NA as far as I know.

As far as I know, you can't switch outside of your region code without hacks (i.e. no PAL to NTSC to NTSC-J). Other than that, you can trade to anyone and receive games from anyone within your region code. So someone in the US could gift to anyone inside the NTSC region, while folks in Europe could gift to anyone in the PAL region.

You need to go to Wii Settings > Country, switch your console the appropriate country, re-enable Wii-connect 24 and agree to the terms of service. Once you enter the shop channel as the buyer or receiver, it will confirm the country change and you can gift/receive title in the country that your Wii is currently set as.

You won't lose any games during the switch to or back, as I still have the two games that were gifted to me from a Canadian. Just remember each time you switch you'll need to re-enable WiiConnect 24.

When I try to change my country, I only get European (and some Asian and African) countries

Still, that is pretty cool. thanks anyway

I forgot to mention that you need to be on boo's friend list and not be a 'pean or a Mets fan. :whee:

And World of Goo is fantastic. :hot:
Why hasn't the title been updated?

Indeed. I'm on chapter 2. Guys, this is retail quality. Definately not retail length though.
Stopped because that red carpet level was pissing me off.
HEY LILBOO

More WiiWare block info.

Art Style Orbient - 126
Bomberman Blast - 271
Midnight Bowling - 300
PLÄTTCHEN Twist... - 287
Potpourrii - 128
World of Goo - 320

Haven't checked yet, but my sources say Art Style Cubello is 47 blocks.

I'm prolly gonna hold out on World of Goo. I mean, if we do another Christmas thing this year.. at least I'll have something that I don't have & someone can gift me ..

Cubello looks a lot more awesome than Orbient. Orbient is fun, but I'm finding it a tad difficult. I could just be flat out retarded.

Secret of Mana, however, needs to be purchased. This can made with REAL cash dollas. I haven't bought a VC game since sometime early 2007...:whistle2:k

I gotta say, this week makes an extremely strong case for a gaming industry moving solely toward digital distribution. Not an infallible one - it's just that the games this week are so damned good.

Secret of Mana is a legend in its own right, with amazing music, fun gameplay, and more-amusing-than-I-remember-it dialogue.

Cubello is truly unique as a puzzle game that could ONLY be accomplished with the Wiimote (or a mouse, if you want to be a jerk about it). Once again, excellent music, highly addictive gameplay, and overall a great twist on a good genre.

And then we have World of Goo, which I've maybe played for 10 minutes so far and I can already begin to see the sheer genius behind it. It is unmatched in terms of atmosphere right now, and I cannot wait to sink more time into it.

Even though I already own it for the SNES I'm sooo tempted to buy Secret of Mana for the VC, I don't know why. I guess it's just the novelty of having it ready to play at anytime since my SNES is boxed away in the closet. It's by far my favorite SNES game ever.

I still need to pick up SMRPG, SoM, and Shining Force 2. I have 2700 Wii points so I have enough to get them all but with all the great games coming out for 360 and PS3 lately Im not sure if I have the time to play these :(. Maybe i'll pick these up in Jan or Feb when the slow gaming releases hit.

It's a very strong argument for the industry if sales are good because of that quality, but not necessarily for the consumer. No matter how cool digital distribution is, always keep in mind that without a physical product there is zero resale value. Cheapassgamer would cease to exist except as purely a discussion of games. There are "cheap" alternatives (i.e. used, clearance) to the current system, but the only "cheap" alternative to digital distribution is piracy.

Pimpinc, if you're going to get them eventually, just get them now and play them later. That way, Nintendo will see strong initial sales of these great RPGs and hopefully release more (like Earthbound :) ).

Thats true might as well get them when I get home from work later. Icould nly hope for Earthbound

I know what you're getting at, but the 40% off Wii accessories at TRU sale worked well enough for me. iPhone apps and games have gone "on sale" too, right?

Digital distribution will require a smarter, better-informed consumer. For some reason, there are parents out there prepared to drop $60 on a game accepting that their dumb kid will turn around and not like it. For now, they seem ok with trading it in to Gamestop and getting a measly pittance back towards the next game their kid will reject. Digital distribution will eliminate that avenue for this market. Are they prepared to swallow $60 knowing they can't return it, or even regift it? I doubt it. I think consumers will have to become more discerning. Demos will have to become the norm.

Of course, who's to say how things change? Maybe Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft will be forced to institute a partial refund grace period. 30% back within 30 days? Or maybe they'll allow you to regift a limited number of times.

As someone who doesn't resell my items, the whole thing is pretty moot.

Now that I realize it, while I love good Wii games, damn I will have a bigger backlog than I could imagine, lol.

I have to get for Wii
Art Style Orbient (maybe cubello too)
Strong Bad EP 2
SOM
World of Goo
Protoman for MM9
Maybe Shining Force II
Yeah I still have to go through Mario RPG too

If we factor in my other games I want (all for PC or Wii/DS)...
Dead Space, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Star Wars Empire at War, GTA IV, Castlevania OOE, Chrono Trigger DS, Tales of Symphonia II...

Damn I need money, lol.

I'm not actually trying to have a discussion on digital distribution here, as I said in the post.

I was more pointing out how these three games - small and downloadable - make a great argument for it. They are cheap, high quality titles with great gameplay. One of them is vintage, but the other two are brand new affairs. Hell, World of Goo already looks more polished than 99% of all Wii retail games. That'd be more awesome if it weren't so sad.

Again it is NOT INFALLIBLE and I probably oppose it more than most because I am all about the manuals and coverart and boxes and so on.

And yet, the destruction of Gamestop might be completely worth it alone.

I'm all for digital only. At least for handhelds.

PSP just got the 5.0 FW and now it has a fancy store like the PS3 that is incredibly slick and easy to use.

I think I'm done buying physical games for it. Maybe.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :cue Vader Internetz gif:

But yes, this week's titles are great. Granted, the Nintendo back catalog is so huge and great to begin with, but there you go.

Me too, since almost all of them are terrible and end up getting ported elsewhere anyway. :p

Patapon 2 will calm me down.

OH NO YOU DIN'T!

I played some SMRPG yesterday. There's so much to love. I'm mad that I only ever rented this game back when I was young and poor(er). I should've, I dunno, not gotten a PSX as soon as I did. Then again, I did get to play the best home version of MK3. Whatev.

This week, Europe got 3 VC games, Space Harrier - SEGA Master System/500 Points, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition - SEGA Genesis/800 Points, and Mayhem in Monsterland - Commodore 64/500 Points.

World of Goo makes two.. I'm virtual console set for a long time. I'm not even sure what else I really want 'cepting maybe Earthbound.

I detest the idea of digital distribution being the only source of games. Last month I tried to install Portal on my dad's laptop but turns out you can't do that w/o an internet connection even though I have the disc.. annoying. and yet
And yet, the destruction of Gamestop might be completely worth it alone.
you make a compelling argument.. a most complelling argument.
Haha, funny.

Who has dial-up these days?
Seriously. I can't imagine life without talking on the phone and accessing the Internet at the same time.

Doomed, that was 1998. He wanted me to say "It's called a cell phone".
Dude, 1998 is a cunt I wouldn't stand for that shit.

I read on hg101 that the Space Harrier port for the Master System is good (For the hardware at least), but the arcade-perfect port is on the 32X.

The Crotch is on dial-up and as far as I can tell yukine was making fun of him for that. I added a sarcastic response. On the Internet. Big news. First time that's happened. I don't think I ever talk on the phone and access the Internet.

Actually Doomed, I'm not on dial-up anymore, but there are a few CAGs who are.

Also, don't let 1998 make you its bitch. Show that mothafucka who's boss.

The issue (and probably the solution for game developers/publishers) with digital distribution is the second-hand resale market, and this is likely why it is being adopted by publishers so well. If you can guarantee that 100% of your sales (outside of piracy) are going to always go directly towards those who developed and/or published the game, there is really nothing to lose from their perspectives. Consumers really kind of lose in the long run here.

To be perfectly honest however, I'm all for digital distribution as long as the value of the game is appropriately priced for what you receive. Actual physical copies are and can sell for more since you receive a physical product and have the ability to resale in most cases. So far most WiiWare titles are fairly priced for what you get, although Virtual Console titles are a debate for another day.

In exchange for the lower cost you do give up your right to resale, which in the long run probably will hurt GameStop.

More importantly, Radiant Silvergun and King of Fighters '98 came out in 1998.

I played the SMS port of Space Harrier on my PS2 Space Harrier compilation. It is impressive for the hardware but that doesn't mean that it isn't nearly unplayable nowadays.

Pretty interesting. I got an email survey from Nintendo re: WiiWare.

Many of the questions ask specifically about the storage situation.

"The Wii has 512MB of internal storage. How satisfied are you with this? (Scale of 1-7)"

Maybe if they get enough of a negative response they'll adjust their storage "solution" to suit NA's needs.

I did not get that e-mail,I hope I do..since they clearly know how many games I have downloaded.

PLEASE, EVERYONE. DO NOT GIVE ANYTHING MORE THAN A "1" IF YOU GET THAT SURVEY.

nice, a survey to convey our concerns.

I wonder if it's because of the recent purchase of Goo... that you got the email?

I still haven't grabbed Mana yet... quick someone punish me!!!

I'll probably grab Goo too, sounds like a great game, wonder if I had enough points!

It couldn't've been that. I got that survey too a couple days ago but didn't think much of it. I haven't bought a vc/wiiware game in a while. However there were a few more questions on there concerning storage issue such as one of them asking what is our criteria of buying and to make three and some of the options were "amount of space left", "price", "size of game".
