nice, a survey to convey our concerns.

I wonder if it's because of the recent purchase of Goo... that you got the email?
The funny thing about Nintendo is that they seem to have no overarching system. So, you can link your Wii and your DS to your myNintendo account. This account keeps track of games you purchase, so it interacts with the Wii Shop, and it's tied to my email address where I received this survey.

HOWEVER:

The survey asks me if I use Wii Channels including: Disc Channel, Photo Channel, Check Mii Out, Weather, etc etc. Seriously, Disc Channel? And an option of, "None of the Above"?

They ask me how many WW/VC titles I've purchased, which ones, and whether I've rated them on the Nintendo Channel (I've rated a few).

It just seems like they should know this stuff already.

Oh, in conclusion, they didn't seem to know what I had purchased, if anything, so I doubt it's triggered by anything in particular.

:wall:

So I have 200 points in the account.
I just cashed in for another 2000 points card from Gaminglagoon.

I was going to get SoM + World of Goo, but that would be 2300 points..and I'd have 2200. :wall:

I really wish we had the option to load as many points/dollars as we want...but then again, this is how they end up getting MORE money. Grr.

Secret of Mana- Get
Strong Bad E2- Get

I would buy one of the Art Style games but this will last me enough. I wanted to buy World of Goo but the girlfriend wanted Strong Bad E2 (well I wanted it too, but she really wanted it) and I ran 300 points short for world of goo. Maybe next point card.

So I have been hella busy lately, but I got the rest of the day/night to myself.
How does a Cubello/Secret of Mana night sound? I gotta throw in 2-5 pizzas and I just might have the best night ever.

Finally got around to playing Cubello, Orbient and World of Goo. Cubello and Orbient are pretty much what I expected - pretty and somewhat clever but lacking that addictiveness of fast-paced puzzle games. I will probably play them as wind-down, but can't see being "into" either.
World of Goo looks great and is interesting to play, but it is completely devoid of fun as far as I can tell. Seven or eight levels in and it seems to take itself really seriously for a glorified version of www.sodaplay.com. I can definitely praise it for some things, but these WiiWare games are really starting to show just how much money can be made off of Flash games. Which is great, but not many need the Wii capabilities, so why not play variations for free online. I know that's somewhat obtuse, but as excited as I am each week to play WiiWare games, they just feel shallow.

Ya know, that's part of the reason why I held off on World of Goo for now.
It just seems like an over priced flash game. I am sure it's great, but I don't know. :whistle2:k

To it's credit, it has way more levels than a flash game, but still lacks any real soul. I hear people throw "Katamari" at anything that involves a growing construct (same reason I was interested in Orbient), but the fact is that Katamari has charm oozing out of every pore and that is how it became such a revered concept.

World of Goo doesn't have charm?

You're going to have to start showing me games that have it, since the grand majority don't.

WoG does. In droves. But you're content to call it a flash game because I guess that makes sense to you.

Since the objective CharmObserver2000 won't be on the market for a few years, I guess it's left to personal preference. World Of Goo is lifeless to me - there is no humor, no sense of wonder and no incentive to explore - three of my main components of charm. Playing it feels like a chore; like I'm the chimp and the banana is hanging from the ceiling while I am left surrounded by foam bricks, torn between my compulsive hunger and the enjoyable urge to masturbate.

I'm just saying this sounds like all those arguments I hear all the time where the sayer's target is movable and - honestly - unassailable. And this is usually because they tend to phrase their unappreciative demeanor in such that is condescending - "I don't like you, I can't imagine why you would." And there's always a subtitle of "but REALLY, SERIOUSLY HONESTLY, I know what is truly awesome." And then when I ask someone to tell me what is this magical game, they generally can't tell me, OR they point out to some game that - while good - tends to be extremely old.

This is just such a ridiculous way of framing a justification, because it pours over the walls of "opinion" and into the realm of "my opinion is better than your own."

I can say without stuttering that games like WoG come out infrequently. And I'll even be fair and say the gameplay itself isn't the most unique thing in the world. But looking at the sheer magnitude of the gaming industry today, almost no one is willing to take chances, so they shove down the same stereotypes over and over since that is the safe thing to do. More bald men, more guns, more muted colors, more less colors, over and over and over.

I can't remember the last game I played where the writing was just so deliciously balanced between narrative and insanity. Portal comes to mind but I'm sure that's "just an FPS with a gimmick."

Aren't you describing the bulk of your own arguments here? I'm not claiming to "know" anything, just express an opinion based on experience with other games and using a common point of reference generally regarded as a high point in gaming (Katamari). Remember that you disagreed with me, not the other way around. Your tirade branches off completely from anything I even began to mention, so it's probably not worth arguing with point-by-point.

In summation, I didn't especially love World of Goo (for previously mention reasons), Strell did. No reason to get mean about it.

The main thing is that I'm tired of "it's a flash game, just a glorified one" description, because that's doing the game no justice at ALL. Because when people think of flash games, they think of banner ads, or Newgrounds, or all the other little projects that use graphics straight out of MSPaint and have rules like "don't touch the box that looks like a box." It's like saying a skateboard has wheels and can propel you across the ground, so why would a car be any better?

You're the one dismissing the entire atmosphere of the game, and my point is that it is far more realized than "just a flash game," and actually exceeds most retail games. I can't speak for how much someone is going to like what the Sign Painter says, but I can damn sure say it's more original than a huge number of available games right now. But that's subjective at heart, even though I can say objectively that it is FAR beyond most narratives in gaming these days, because it is executed well and executed cleanly.

I'd go into a tangent about how "it's a building game" doesn't make it like Katamari, but I don't feel like it.

I really can't tell if you're arguing with me (for no apparent reason) or with the state of video games in general. Sure seems like the latter. Maybe you should write an angry letter to every current video game manufacturer. Or start an online petition. That'll enact change for sure.

In other news, I also have recently played WiiWare Pirates game and it is boring. Not boring like a Flash game, boring like the worst kind of NES game - pilot your ship around generic "water" map and occassionally blow stuff up in a vaguely boring way. Mega Man 2 is sure fun though.

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND TWO VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Oct. 20, 2008
No matter how many years go by, the blocks just never stop falling. Now Tetris Party gives you the chance to show off all the block-stacking skills you have honed through the years while competing with friends in a variety of new challenges. If you're in more of a solitary mood, see how long it takes you to work your way through The Incredible Maze. The Virtual Console also sees two classic games added. Whether you like to do your fighting with an airship or a pair of boxing gloves, you're covered.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare™

Tetris Party (Tetris Online, Inc., 1-6 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,200 Wii Points): Tetris Party is a deceptively simple, totally addictive puzzle game that is sure to keep you and all of your friends and family entertained for hours on end. The WiiWare game features 10 never-before-seen single-player and multiplayer variations of Tetris, including Field Climber, Stage Racer, Shadow and Wii Balance Board-enabled modes (Wii Balance Board™ accessory sold with Wii Fit™). Several of the modes give users the chance to take advantage of the unique point-and-shoot capabilities of the Wii Remote™ controller. The party doesn't stop there, though. Take the Tetris fun online via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, where you can play multiplayer Tetris against up to five friends at a time. You can also see how your Tetris Party skills stack up against the rest of the world using the global ranking system.

The Incredible Maze (Digital Leisure Inc., 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Get lost in The Incredible Maze! Simply tilt your Wii Remote controller to navigate a series of exciting and twisted mazes. Entering the maze could not be easier, but finding your way out will require a keen eye and a steady hand. Obstacles and traps are around every corner, so move your ball around the maze without falling off the edge. But watch out, there are lots of surprises in store. You can hunt for gems in a timed challenge, or test your abilities in a race against the clock. The Incredible Maze is also compatible with the Wii Balance Board, so you can really put your weight into it. This is the way in, but you'll have to find your own way out.

Virtual Console

Digital Champ Battle Boxing (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Mild Violence, 700 Wii Points): Set in the near future, Digital Champ Battle Boxing is a first-person-perspective boxing title that plunges players into the raw intensity of the ring! Determined to thwart Mother Computer's plot to conquer mankind, you infiltrate the enemy's domain, using your boxing skills to vanquish your foes. Each round is three minutes, with a total of 12 rounds to a match. Advance to the next contest through either a KO or by flattening an opponent three times in a round for a TKO. Utilize an arsenal of left and right jabs, hooks, power-charged crosses and three different kinds of "Devastator" punches. Deftly block and slip your opponent's attacks, and look for your chance to lay them out. Master these techniques and take down the greatest opponent of them all, DIGITAL CHAMP!

GRADIUS® II GOFER NO YABOU (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): This shooter is the sequel to the seminal masterpiece, GRADIUS. Two years after its last epic battle, the GRADIUS army recommissions the VIC VIPER super-dimensional warplane to combat the invasion of a new nemesis known as GOFER. Piloting the latest model of the VIC VIPER, players can select between multiple WEAPON MODULES and SHIELDS to tackle the varying stages and enemy attack patterns they come up against. With a total of nine stages, this perfect port of the original boasts one of the longest adventures in the series and features more of its trademark fast-paced background music to accompany the intense action.

With Tetris and the Maze game, and now I heard Wii Music ... It's nice to hear of the support for the balance board.

Wife bought one and it's good it's not a one-trick pony except for Wii Ski.

For once, I'm actually glad there there isn't anything for me this week on WW or VC. We were having so many good weeks lately, my Wii can hardly contain the games I want to buy. Literally, unfortunately :(

Same here. I just finished World of Goo and am now working on Super Mario RPG and still need to buy Secret of Mana and Cubello. I'm set for the rest of the year at least...

Big week for me anyway, but it does feel cool to get three (maybe four if I spring for Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum) games with Balance Board support.

Incredible Maze, eh? Never heard of it. I'll have to look at vids of it later...I'm def up for any game at the moment that supports the balance board.

I will get Tetris as soon as I get another points card!

Why would you assume people think that about flash games? Maybe 5 years ago or something like that it'd be true, but flash stuff in recent years has been great. I think most people who have played some of those games realize that.

That said, I know the limitations of AS3 and if you use flash to make your games, there are just some limits you'll face inherent in the medium.

 the wife spotted that and she was totally going to pick it up.

I was chuckling in my corner of the office...

Really had the perfect chance to release Earthbound this weekend, if only to nicely compliment M3.

But as we all know, NoA wants every last Mother fan to cram it with walnuts, fatty.

I should hopefully be getting The Incredible Maze from Digital Leisure themselves, so I can give you guys some impressions when I get some time in with the game.

I think putting Mother 2 out this week would be saying "Yes, we know you all want M3, but 2 is all you're getting." Even Nintendo's not that cruel.

So now that we FINALLY have the games we all been jerkin' too like Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, Tetris Party, World of Goo, and Bomberan..What else are we waiting for? :whistle2:k

Yes yes, Earthbound. I agree!
But what else?

For me, on the VC, it's Zombies Ate My Neighbors & Earthworm Jim 1 & 2. :applause:
I really don't know what else is planned for WiiWare. I'm drawing a big blank right now. Sure I'm interested in other Art Style games, but what else?

Fill me in, guys

I don't know, I'm pretty content with the Wii's downloadables right now. I guess more Wiiware games I don't know anything about that end up being decently fun?

Well I mean like a few months ago we were given a big list of shit that's coming out and we all circle jerked over it because of games like World of Goo, Bomberman, and Tetris. What else is coming out that's been announced for WiiWare that we should all be strokin too?

for me it's basically Smash Bros 64 as well as a boatload of other N64 games missing...
