Wii U - General Discussion Thread
So how long before we hear this about Bayonetta 2?
I think Platinum is going to send representatives to every store selling Bayonetta 2, who will stand by the Wii U game and say THIS IS ALSO COMING TO OTHER SYSTEMS! WHY NOT BLAST SOME MOUNTAIN DEW!

Because I also assume they will be spokespersons for Mountain Dew.

The only problem I have with this is that they are delaying the game 7 months.

I know that some people bought a Wii U because of Rayman Legends and for those individuals it sucks that they have to wait even longer to play the game when it was supposed to hold them over for other big releases (Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101). If Capcom pulled something like this for Monster Hunter (which they won't) I'd be extremely disappointed.

I really don't understand the business sense of this move especially with the release of other big titles during that same time frame.
It's sort of an ongoing thing with Rayman titles. Origins on the 3DS was delayed 2 or 3 times, I believe.
But a 7-month push less than 3 weeks from launch? That's a bullshit move. And yes, like others, I'll show my dissatisfaction for Ubisoft by waiting another 6 months when the game can be had for $30 or less.

The sad part is that this is going to kill the franchise. Admittedly, it was likely to peter out after this one anyway, but this is just expediting the process.

The Wii U doesn't have the install base that Ubisoft hoped, but it's a very *hungry* install base right now. Nothing has been released since launch. Outside of Rayman, nothing was hitting until March. Rayman for Wii U is never going to sell as well as it would have in three weeks. The first new Wii U game since November? Family friendly? Respected by gamers? Not a port of something that came out months ago? A great game, to boot? This game would've sold.

Now it's just another in a sea of fall releases. GTA5, while not appearing to have a huge cross-section, appeals to the same (ugh, I hate the term) 'core' gamers that Rayman does. Those same gamers know that GTA5 will remain the same price for a while, whereas Ubisoft's games drop like a fucking rock. There's no incentive to buy day one. Add in the fact that a lot of people will be saving for new systems, and September is literally sending this game out to die.

I hate the phrase 'vote with your wallet', but that's what I'm going to do. This series is DOA anyway, so losing my money isn't all that relevant... it just makes me feel better. I'll snag it used at some point, and I already scuttled my planned 'new' purchase of AC3 that was literally going to happen 30 minutes after they announced this. For me, that's enough. If they had done this 6 months ago, it wouldn't be an issue. Nineteen days. Nine. Teen.

You put it in much kinder words than I would have, so 100% agreed.

Considering Sega's business plans, Nintendo's more likely to acquire the Bayonetta IP outright.

It wouldn't be the first time. Origins 3DS was supposed to originally release with the console versions in November, but it was delayed to March, then delayed to June, and then finally delayed to the following November.

All the news articles I'm reading on the last delay are dated the day before or after it's original June release date...so it's been worse before.

I'm surprised that Ubisoft stole one of Nintendo's early 2013 third-party timed exclusives and buried it alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. I thought their plan was to put it out on Wii U in the next month or so and then the other versions would come out so everybody else could enjoy it, but this just kills that. I'm not sure why they want to pin all hopes for success for that game with a release near GTA V and whatever else will be out that month while the next-gen consoles come steamrolling in a few months later.

At this point, I'd like to see a Vita port to coincide with my copy of Origins.

Good thing I held out on buying a Wii U. I had ordered one last week from Amazon Warehouse deals in anticipation of getting Rayman and Monster Hunter but something in my gut told me to cancel my order and be patient. With Rayman being delayed I am going to delay my Wii U purchase unless if there is a good promotion when Monster Hunter comes out.

I share the same feeling many people here seem to have. I had Legends on preorder to show support and was excited to play it soon, now I'll just wait for a price drop.
But a 7-month push less than 3 weeks from launch? That's a bullshit move. And yes, like others, I'll show my dissatisfaction for Ubisoft by waiting another 6 months when the game can be had for $30 or less.

It's a Ubisoft game, so it will be $20 by Black Friday.
Probably sooner. Origins was $20 a week after its' release.

Mother fucker. I guess I'm getting Monster Hunter 3 U now.

Seriously, what the hell is Ubisoft thinking? They would have the entire Wii U install base to themselves for a month.
Except the delays there seemed to be b/c the port wasn't coming out well. Did you play the demo? After playing Origins on the Vita, the 3DS version felt almost unplayable. The graphics were less crisp and there was noticeable slowdown, which is a huge problem for Origins since so much of the platforming is about precision. They should have just canceled it outright IMO.

Meanwhile, Legends has been the only consistently playable demo in any store, and it's clearly running just fine.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02...i-u-exclusive?abthid=5113d7c6a8760ecf4d000049

Bullshit.

One, if the Wii U version is done, fucking release it and *then* port it six months later. Two, so releasing a game the same month at GTA5 and one or two months before new systems is going to help, then? Especially when Origins already underperformed on the platforms you're holding it for? Sigh.

I'm not angry about the end of exclusivity... I want everyone to be able to play this. Problem is, the timing is basically condemning the game to death. I genuinely don't understand how holding one version is going to help. Ah, well.

So many Shaq Fu's on one page. Lol.

As far as I'm concerned, the more people that get to play the game the better, so good on ya, Ubisoft.

Overreaction at its finest, lol.
Not at all - fine, have it come out for the other systems in 6 months. But what do they gain by delaying the completed Wii U version?
But his comment was that he just "Saved 60 bucks".

So since he can't have it this month he won't buy it at all? That seems like a bit of an overreaction.

Well then it makes even more sense for Ubisoft to do this. After all, if everyone was going to wait for Legends to drop in price, may as well release it on three platforms so they can recoup as much money as possible.
No, because a lot of us were going to buy it at "full" price (and I put that in quotes because I'm sure many CAGs got in on the $10 off $50 Newegg pricing so it was really $40). I would have gladly paid that to support a good new Wii U game that demonstrated a little third-party support for the system (which it would have even if the other versions came out 7 months later).

I'll keep my preorder a little longer to see if they rethink this. But then I am going to cancel it for sure if they don't backtrack. Then eventually I'll get the game for sub-$20 like I did for the first one. So it is more like "save $20-$25" in my case. But it was precisely because I liked the first one so much (after waiting for it to drop not really knowing what it was) that I considered preordering this one. The Wii U exclusivity put me over the top and got me to pay more for it than 95% of the games I buy. Had this just been another 360/PS3/Wii game like the last one I'm sure I would have waited. There will be other games to play then, both on 360/PS3, also possibly on the PS4, and definitely on the Wii U and 3DS. This month would have been a great time for something like this to come out and get some attention.

(As a side note, I don't mind cancelling on Newegg since they hosed me on my Pro Controller preorder - kept it until last month, then charged me and then cancelled it the next day saying there was no stock).
But a 7-month push less than 3 weeks from launch? That's a bullshit move. And yes, like others, I'll show my dissatisfaction for Ubisoft by waiting another 6 months when the game can be had for $30 or less.
Yeah, definitely. Except I won't pay anything close to $30 for it.
Mother fucker. I guess I'm getting Monster Hunter 3 U now.

Seriously, what the hell is Ubisoft thinking? They would have the entire Wii U install base to themselves for a month.
I will take a serious look at MH3U now. I was considering it before, but I thought Rayman would be enough for the Wii U until Pikmin.

I have to say I love the Wii U Internet Browser. It's the best I've used outside of those for a computer. It's so much better than the Wii and 3DS browsers, and blows the 360 and PS3 browsers out of the water. I even like it more than Safari on my iPad.

Wasn't this game ready to ship for the Wii-U launch and just held a few months to get some more limelight?

How does holding a finished game AT LEAST 10 months help sales. Sorry Ubisoft. You just lost a customer.

I was in for full price (well in for the Newegg deal) since I want a new WiiU game but with the bump, they'll get a sale from me when it's $20. (possibly even switch over to 360 for the superior controller) One surefire way to kill a franchise. Bury the game among GTA5, CoD, probably Halo in some form, maybe a PS4 or 720 launch as well as the usual slate of fall AAA titles.

The fucked up thing is they released the first game during the same fall onslaught and it failed terribly. However it was a brilliant game and gamers took note...gamers ready to give the new game the benefit of the doubt and drop $50-$60 on Legends on day one.
Rayman for Wii U is never going to sell as well as it would have in three weeks. The first new Wii U game since November? Family friendly? Respected by gamers? Not a port of something that came out months ago? A great game, to boot? This game would've sold.
It's beyond baffling. This could have been the game to really succeed. Hell, it's been THE demo on WiiU demo stations for 3 months. It showcases unique uses of the tablet. Launching it with PS3/360 version just tells the average consumer they are the same game with nothing special about the WiiU version.

Nintendo should have taken a page from Microsoft's playbook and bought a 6 month window of exclusivity. They have nothing for their user base right now and as much as I love Pikmin it's never going to be a mainstream hit. So for the months ahead Rayman could have been prominently showcased in advertising the system.

wii u owners that got system right away at this point have to be kicking them selfs. 1. the system is in stores all the time since launch unlike wii. 2. nothing has come out since launch worth playing. 3. ubisoft pretty much lied to them saying this game was a wii u only game and then delay it lol. I really wonder if nintendo did it to help wii u sales at launch. This game comes out in sep when gta 5 is now coming out and people are saying it might end up on wii u. this game will die right away if that happens.

another thing is people need to stop thinking new systems are coming out this fall. Unless sony announces ps4 the 20th like some people say they might i don't see it. No way microsoft or sony will bring out new systems if they don't announce them to e3 in mid june. You need more then 4-5 months to get hype up for new system when some major games are coming out for current gen systems in fall which were announced at e3 last year.

I just realized that I haven't been this made at the video game industry since E3 2008. For months, NoA (mainly Reggie) were hyping of a new must buy Wii game that everyone would want for the holidays. It was going to be the thing. After we all speculated and hoped for the best, Nintendo failed to deliver. At the end of their E3 conference, Nintendo unveiled a man most likely on more drugs than I could imagine playing the "drums" with a Wiimote. It was Wii Music and I was pissed off that day.

Today Ubisoft recreated that feeling for me.

So stop caring about Nintendo, and your gaming sadness will be solved!

Somehow I am not surprised, Nintendo is notorious for delaying games, to the point where you almost have to expect delays. But a 6 month delay for something that is coming out in a couple weeks is unprecedented. Not that this is even their fault, but I guess they have to allow it to happen. I guess they have hit a new low. If Pikmin 3 comes out on time I will be very surprised. Just one more reason to never buy a console until after 2-3 years when there should hopefully be enough games out to satisfy gamers.

problem with that was the 360 was rushed to market and had tons of issues from the start. I don't think we see new systems till spring or fall 2014

Capital letters are your friends. Also punctuation. Jesus Christ, my brain.

That being said. I bought my Wii U on the morning of November 18th and there's no kicking myself going on over here.

Since you were so kind to number your complaints, I'll respond to them in kind.

1) Why would a console's (or handheld, for that matter) retail availability affect my enjoyment of it? Why would you mention this at all, for that matter?

2) I'm personally still trying to keep up with the launch titles. I've got six Wii U games on my shelf, only two of which I feel that I've "completed". (Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and ZombiU.) I just picked up Call of Duty Black Ops II over the weekend, and I'm having a blast with that. I finished New Super Mario Bros. U, but I'm still working on collecting all the star coins. Scribblenauts is only about halfway done, and I've barely touched the editing capabilities. And Nintendoland, like Wii Sports before it, will be an evergreen title that comes down every few weeks for an hour or two of playtime.

I still want to pick up Batman Arkham City Armored Edition and Assassin's Creed III, definitely. I've also been considering, but I've never been very good at the series, so I'll likely rent it somewhere down the road.

Finally, there's more Wii U launch window titles than there were Xbox 360 launch window titles.

3) Did Rockstar lie when they said Grand Theft Auto V was coming out in the Spring? How about Final Fantasy XIII Verus and The Last Guardian? Who knows if we'll even see those at this point.

Delays happen in this industry, just as it does in the film industry and other entertainment industries. For some reason, judging by the internet's response to this particular delay, folks tend to lose their shit over it, and I'm not entirely sure why. After all, if I'm interested in playing the game now, I don't see why I'll be any less interested in the game come September. Gamer's have gotten really entitled for some reason, and it rather bugs me.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna wander off to bed and wonder why I wasted my time typing out a well thought out post in response to a troll.

i paid 450 for a wii u so how im i a troll i game on every system out including pc how im i a troll? zombie u was a ok game at first and just got old and sold it two days after i got it. Mario U is by far the best launce title and scriblenauts i got on pc already no reason to buy it twice. All the games you said you wanted to play i already played when they came out before the wii u. Batman is a two year old game for crying out loud it was not really a game worth paying 60 bucks for again. But no point in fighting nintendo people like you i don't got time im about to play handfull of great games this spring while you play pickman lol.

just because im showing anger to nintendo for making the wii u a let down so far when i was so up for hit with couple games that has been pushed back and now rayman NO LONGER a exclusive which is why i got a wii u in first place after playing it at e3 and loved it. Max thinks im a troll for expressing my feelings about a system that had chance to be big but seems like will end up being 3rd in line once new systems come out. Wii U will not survive if they don't get 3rd party companys to do games just for wii u. Don't tell me bayonetta 2 is one because it's published by nintendo. i think i have a right to be not happy i put down close to 600 bucks for this system back in nov thinking oh man this will be hard to find well that has yet to happen.

I'm loving all the rage and butt hurt all over the place. Good shit Ubisoft:applause: They have way to many potential buyers to make this just for 1 system.

If anyone wants someone to blame then blame Microsoft. If they still have that supposed multiplatform policy then Ubisofts hands are tied.

I am dissapointed but I'll probably still buy it in September. Although people seem to have a damn short memory. Nearly every console launch is like this-A bunch of of undercooked launch titles with a few select gems, sparse releases for the first couple months, then software starts getting regular. Don't we have Lego City Undercover, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3 & Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate all just on the horizon? Sounds good to me. That's more titles coming out for the Wii U I'm interested in than are coming out for any other system in the next 7 months at this point. You can't compare the library to systems that have been out for 8 years, but how about current/upcoming releases? I can only count a handful that are remotely interesting and most aren't due out for months. If it wasn't for my backlog pretty much all my consoles would be gathering dust for the next several months.

Edit: Just doing a quick look, I saw many multi-platform releases, ports of old games, and shovleware garbage, I'd be ashamed to own regardless the system, let alone using that as an argument to say their is more launch titles on Wii U, ya need to try a bit harder next time. ;)

1) Why would a console's (or handheld, for that matter) retail availability affect my enjoyment of it? Why would you mention this at all, for that matter?
Affect enjoyment? No, but it does affect your perception of the system. Let's say people bought the WiiU for Rayman, a 'launch window' game. People that want to play Rayman are going on past console launches when deciding to buy. You couldn't walk into a store and find a Wii for two years. The 360 for a 6-9 months. So based on history if you want to play Rayman, better get your system at launch with a pre-order.

Now with the bump to September, and WiiU availability, it seems quite a few gamers could have just skipped a WiiU purchase or at least postponed it.

Finally, there's more Wii U launch window titles than there were Xbox 360 launch window titles.
Two things. First the 360 launch window is what, 1 month compared to the WiiU's 3 months. Second, the WiiU list is populated with old games from prior systems.

I'd say the launch lineups are comparable and not favoring either.

What on earth are you talking about? The image itself says "THROUGH MARCH", so it's the same time period for both consoles.

The Xbox 360 side is not only half sports titles, but at least half multiplatform titles as well. I can go as far as list which games were also available on the PS2, Xbox, PC, and Gamecube, if you'd like me to.

To be fair, about 12 of the 360 games on that list were also on the old Xbox, and were only slightly improved ports. In fact, some of the games were better on the old Xbox.
Seriously you're gonna bring this up?!? Ok let's count how many of those 360 titles were multiplats or 1+ year old ports and let's re-do that math shall we, and I betcha the difference is not as big as your linked picture says, just sayin'.

Edit: Just doing a quick look, I saw many multi-platform releases, ports of old games, and shovleware garbage, I'd be ashamed to own regardless the system, let alone using that as an argument to say their is more launch titles on Wii U, ya need to try a bit harder next time. ;)
So that's...21 of the original 31 Xbox 360 launch titles that are ports or multiplatform releases.

I'm not trying to argue that the Wii U's launch is better than what other console launches are like, I'm just trying to argue that you have a poor long-term memory, because the first six months of any console release are generally dry as hell, this isn't a problem exclusive to the Wii U.

To be honest, it was predictable that it was likely to happen like that. People aren't in a hurry to upgrade consoles and buying a new one is going to be a decision not done lightly. Again, I don't see a reason to buy a new console unless you really want to play the games that are available (or soon to be available.)

That being said, I can see people being pissed about this because this was expected to be a launch/near launch title, and having it get the boot for no reason other than to make it a multiplatform title. It makes no sense and it just creates bad feelings.

I know a lot of people liked Rayman Origins but personally, the only thing this game had going for it was that it was coming during the post launch drought. I'm not saying it looked like a bad game but it's one of those games that is really easy to overlook when there's other games coming out. Look at Origins, almost no one bought that game at the launch price of $50. It wasn't until it dropped into the $20-30 range that people starting picking it up. They've painted themselves into the same corner at this point.

While the overall audience for this game just grew by an incredible amount, they've also screwed themselves by putting themselves up against a VERY competitive time of the year for video game releases. Maybe this will make them more money overall, but I still don't understand why they would delay a completed WiiU version during a post launch drought and soak up all that game-hungry money.

I'm not gonna say I would have definitely bought this game later this month but I can tell you that there's almost no chance of me buying it before a pricedrop now that there's going to be other games to buy coming out around the same time.

As others have mentioned, if you remove the whole "exclusive now multiplayer" from the discussion entirely, it still looks like a stupid move on Ubi's part. They are sending Rayman out to die once again. Again. After all that whining about the first one not selling well, they are doing THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN.

This is Homer Simpson "I invested in pumpkins, I think they'll peak around November" logic.
