WWE Legends of Wrestlemania - Out now! Buy it or the Warrior will lecture you!

It's fun, but it's really important to stress the 'arcade' nature of it. Personally, I miss SvR gameplay, but this isn't *awful*, which is something. It has some depth to it, but you can generally just randomly press buttons and usually end up coming out on top.

Complaints?

Looking through the first 15 Wrestlemanias, there are just a wee bit too many wrestlers not in the game that were major major parts of events. I understand there are reasons, but that doesn't mean it sucks less. Savage would've made this game 10x better. Hell, just having Sid, Diesel, and Razor would've made it 5x better. I get it, but it doesn't mean I like it.

What the fuck is up with the character models? It's as if they got part way there and just gave up. Some of them are respectable, but many aren't just bad... they're awful. I believe someone said that they look like action figures, which is spot-on. That leads into my next point...

Having shitty characters models is one thing. Having shitty character models interact with great, realistic character models? Yeah, bad move. SvR, if nothing else, has amazingly detailed wrestlers... which, when put next to LoW guys, *look* like they're from another game. I did Orton vs. Warrior and it reminded me of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?'. Going with an artistic style is fine, but keep it consistent, especially given that the SvR import feature is, uh, not really an import feature at all. I was hoping it was, so you could pick who you wanted to bring over. Sadly, it appears that they're really all just on the disc already, you just need a save to unlock them. Circling back to my point... they're on the LoW disc, work on the models.

Not a complaint? Bob Holly made the game. In fact, it appears that Palumbo and London are really the only people that didn't (not to be taken as 100% truth).

... so, overall opinion? It's fun. The Relive mode is, by far, the best part. Am I happy I spent $60 on it? Not completely. The DVD from TRU helped a bit, but the game itself isn't exactly what I had hoped. They got close, but I really do think the push to get it out in time for Mania hurt the game. If THQ's contract gets renewed, I think there should be a really good game next time. Ultimately, though, I think just creating a Legends game on the SvR engine would've worked just as well, if not better. It would, at least, have allowed them more time to refine the aesthetics.

I also wondered about why they wouldn't go with Savage, considering some of the bums they did go with.

Big Daddy V, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch are also missing.

On a side note, Vince being in the game is awesome. Vince vs. Yokozuna was hilarious.

I haven't watched wrestling in years or followed anything concerning it, but I'm gonna guess it has to do with the beef between Macho Man and the WWE. I read a rumor somewhere that THQ had a Macho Man build in beta, but whoever from the WWE was consulting on the game or whatever axed it.

Pretty much. Some of his B&W tights are in CAL. There's numerous theories as to why Vince hates Macho Man, ranging from trademark issues to Savage boning an underage Stephanie (When she was 16). Hopefully the upcoming DVD finally shares why he's blacklisted from WWE.

Many have wondered that if it was perhaps the latter, why weren't issues pressed? It depends on the state that this occured in. According to AgeOfConsent.com, 16 is the "Age of Consent" in 29 states, for females. This includes the state of Connecticut, where WWE HQ is located and Vince himself lives.
Many have wondered that if it was perhaps the latter, why weren't issues pressed?
Because, in court, "charges" are pressed, not "issues."

Issues are on newsstands, daddy-o.

Really, though, not that I like to encourage this Macho Man theory, but it really is a supefyingly dumbass question to ask why charges weren't pressed. Wrestlers? In court? Shit, it's not like a little something like murder could have kept Superfly Snuka from being criminally indicted. So a little underage rootin' around is nothing. Comparatively, anyway.

Enjoying the game so far. It's kinda fun. The lack of "big names" in the game, and the shit-ass music included for them, is awful. It's also a little lazy. Hogan couldn't rip his shirt? Fine. Rude doesn't wear his robe to the ring? Honky Tonk man doesn't wear his awful sequined jumpsuit to the ring? Fine.

But they're both in CAL? Wha'!?!?!? Seems like a case of the right hand not giving a flying fuck what the left hand is doing.

I really dont understand having a tito santana icon with his name and picture, yet leaving him out of the game. Strange.

Oh and i agree with mykevermin, they really sucked with entrance attires, and even alternate attires. None for Warrior, hogan, andre, bret hart, perfect, rude, among other names. But we get some for Rock with a shirt, slaughter in a very plain ugly suit, Koko B Ware gets alternate attire, Brutus with missing mask. It just seemed like they really didnt give many of the cooler wrestlers alternate attires, ones that would have been cool. Like andre with a fro, piper half white/half black, rude always had cool tights, Warrior, a 90s hogan, all pink bret hart, different color for perfect. There were so many choices and they went with junk for the most part.

Im pretty sure the DVD set is just a bunch of matches. No in depth biography or anything. Maybe a few current wrestlers between matches saying "I remember this match... it was intense" or something.

Right now my major problem with this game is any guy who has a finisher that doesnt auto pin cant seem to finish with it. Maybe I am not covering them as quick as I should, but I will hit my finisher, go for the pin, they will kick out at two. I will then beat them back to red, body slam them or whatever grapple move I have, and pin them.

And I wish they fixed the render properties on the SvR guys. They all seem to be real shiny and glow a heavenly glow.
I've always held out hope that it does have to do with him violating Stephanie.
I was surprised to hear Meltzer say he thinks the Savage-Steph story was true a while back on that radio show he does.

That said - and this is rarely brought up, but it's part of the reason I don't necessarily discount it as being true - in the Gorgeous George shoot (the silly-coned chick, not the dead flamboyant guy), she mentions that Savage tried to get her and her younger, underage sister into a three-way. So Macho Man preying on the younger set wouldn't exactly surprise me.

for some reason when taker comes out with bearer.. custom theme does not play :(

any why is snitsky selectable? is he still on active roster?

Wow, hahaha. I have no idea why I said "issues pressed". I meant charges.

No, Snitsky was fired. Dunno why they let him get transferred over into LoWM.

A strange selection process indeed. I played a RR match last night and bitched at my TV when I saw Hardcore Holly come out. I wish he was left on the cutting room floor.

He didn't say that he thought it was true, he said he wouldn't be surprised if it was true only because of rumors he heard. Basically it's nothing but some stupid high school drama shit.

I finally understood the demo, and thinking of picking this up tommorow...just not so sure heh. It seems fun, and I love the legends (I was a HUGE wrestling fan back then and loathe it now) so it's catered to my tastes but dang I just can't pull the trigger :(.

The reason some people think for the Macho Man banning is that when he signed with WCW he gave Vince a verbal agreement over the phone he'd stay, but they went to WCW anyway. I've heard the Stephanie rumor too, but doesn't really make sense with the fact Macho got a tribute on Raw when he left. It doesn't make a lot of sense with the business reason for leaving either, but I suppose Vince was maybe a little more high on him when he first left and gave him a proper send off, but after that basically blacklisted him. I think Bischoff talks a little of this in one of the WWE DVDs.

It couldn't have been ten years ago. There's no way.

I barely remember Jere and Crimson, but I remember Rajah. You're cool now, but god, you were annoying back then, haha.

I wonder how ole Crimmy is. He had a blog, but I lost the link years ago.

Well, I was like nine or ten haha :p

Crimmy had that Resident Evil fan site no?

And yeah, ten years ago. This was around the time WWF Smackdown came out, which was March 3rd 2000 :O.

I remember I had been posting at wrestlegames since WWF Attitude came out in 1998 :O

A few complaints:

I hate the pin system, and the recovery system even worse. To recover after a load of damage it REALLY hurts your hand and fingers to spam those buttons that much. Random pins and victories hurt the game too.

1993 HBK during the Wrestlemania 14 Relive? ... Really?

Aside from those, the game is fairly fun and an injection of nostalgia. So, if I'd rate it out of 10, giving it a 6 is probably about right.

yea i was hoping for a dx entrance but i didnt think it would happen...

something is off about that hbk model... his hair doesnt seem right and he needs the glasses.

and how is old kane not in the game????

LoW HBK is "puffy." His character model lacks definition, his skin tone glossy, the face is way the hell off, etc. It's a lousy CAW HBK, actually.

This might be the first wrestling game I buy since the 64 days (pure perfection back then). The demo got my attention and I like the roster since I might know 1/3 of the people if I turn on WWE now. I'd pick up the PS3 version but I don't think they even have a thread on this yet. Can you download other peoples CAW files and import them?

Damn.. I remember watching like 5 hours of WWF on the weekends when I was a kid. There were like 2 hours of it on back to back both weekend mornings... and you watched 35 minutes of low tier guys take on scrubs and then a mid-card main event or possibly a big name beat up a jobber.. those were the days. :D

You should be able to download people's save files and import them, yes. But, I'm not sure how many times you can do it or if it will affect the CAW you're already imported before. Planning on picking up the PS3 version eventually too and figure there's really no use in having a separate thread over in that forum.

Can you guys help me figure out which themes are most inaccurate? I wanna put something together similar to what Scorch did for CAL, but I want to just give the guys in the game their appropriate themes. From what I can tell King Kong Bundy, Big Bossman, and Big John Studd all seem off. Andre's is to right?

It's funny you guys talking about old wrestling sites makes me think back to my old e-wrestling fed from 1996. Seems like ages ago now.

I watched a good amount of wrestling as a kid, but I'm no longer the expert that I once was. I Googled this, and it seems like Andre The Giant didn't have a theme song for most of his WWF career.

I have to admit - I do kind of like the fake one they made for the game. :)

Having grown up during the attitude era, this games makes me regret not being able to have experienced the federation era as a kid...

I just had a total heel moment. It was awesome.

It was Edge vs. Mr. Perfect w/ Heenan because I wanted to get the Grapplemania and Top Rope achievements. I hit Perfect with the spear. I pin him.. 1.. 2.. Heenan grabs Perfect's foot and puts it on the bottom rope. Edge jumps up, is leaning over the top rope and yelling at Heenan and pointing at him. Perfect hits a belly to back suplex and turned it into a pin and got the three count. So awesome, even if I did lose.

Oh, apparently I found a bug. If you win a match and hit rematch, it disables commentary? Either that, or they didn't have anything to say all match until I won.

I just picked this up and have been having fun but I need to look through the move sets as I end up doing the same moves over and over. The chain grapples are nice but the third part does not always match the nice flow of the previous two moves. I am glad that so far it is not five finishers in under two minutes like what I experienced in SvR2008. I would be interested in doing some player matches for fun if anyone sets anything up.

I tried to do a fed with Smackdown a few years ago, but it never seemed to take off. I think though we could probably pull it off by creating a social group and letting storylines develop there. LoW doesn't allow user controlled refs in multiplayer does it?

I used to do e-feds back when AOL was the shit in the mid/late 90s.. I had fun, I also used to play a lot of TNM the wrestling simulator on the pc, that game was fun as hell also

I miss an e-fed. It was So much easier on AOL. Now with nothing but Spam in my inbox it's hard to do. Shame there isn't a wrestling MMO. :p

Anyways, I rented this today from Blockbuster. Here's hoping it was worth the rental. :D

So what am I missing - how do you use your experience points to build up your created legend??

edit - figured it out.. middle statue is your guy. I almost had enough points to max him out in one shot lol.

Keep doing the Legend Killer tiers and when you have 5000 experience, you will be able to max out all stats at 99. It is best do keep your CAL at 40 while doing them and then once you are able to max your guy out, just copy that 40 CAL into more slots and edit the copied guy into other wrestlers and tweak the attributes to your liking. If you set any attributes and then copy the CAL, you can only raise them and not lower them.

I made a nice nWo Hollywood Hogan and gave him the same stats as the default game version but when using him online, I run into far too many punch happy 99 stat guys and it gets kind of annoying. I also hate that you automatically give up whenever you are red and get into a submission as it seems there are far too many cheap ways to win and most people really try to exploit it and then think they are great at the game. The ranked leaderboard is a joke as well if you care about that sort of thing as the top guy must have a second or third Xbox Live account as he was like 500 wins - 6 loses and while scrolling through all the leaders towards the bottom, I must have stumbled on his other accounts as I have seen some that were like 0 wins -250 loses.

You're pretty much splitting hairs, but here's the audio anyway.

"...that is the only one that makes any sense. So, I think that's the reason." "I've heard that reason from so many people that are not internet rumor-mongers."
