WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009
Wonder what's this Career mode that's listed in the achievements. There hasn't been any word on it, iirc.
Career mode is open to all wrestlers, divas, CAWs, no storylines, but you can build up your stats and whatnot.
Chase, Matt Young would like to join the CAGCW.
Yeah, sure. Thanks for letting me know.

I want to play it already. :whistle2:( I have a lot of ideas I'd like to try in Create-a-Finisher. Firstly, that Shining Knee I mentioned earlier. Then, perhaps a move where someone picks up someone in a chokeslam then transitions into a thrust kick. I'd assign it to a big guy. It would look interesting. :D

If I can get it timely from Yourfree360game, I'll jo... wait... I don't play on live. I'd probably swap it for the PS3 version. Are these leagues different per console?

There are no official in game leagues. This is something Chase is setting up. So you'd have to be on Live.

I don't remember that one really having any storylines, just weird cut-scenes saying "X-Pac has arrived at the arena" and stuff like that.

Oh and you could do 4-player career mode in SD2, which was nice. The flaws in that actually made it entertaining; I would always laugh my friends when it would go like 3 full shows without booking them in a match.

Armed with one of the most devastating finishing maneuvers in all of professional wrestling, the Widow's Peak, Victoria is one of the most vicious Divas in WWE history. Don't let her impeccable good looks fool you. She may be one of the hottest Divas around, but the vicious vixen's beauty is only matched by a mean streak that has helped drive her to two Women's Championships.

Victoria has also been a pioneer in the Women's Division. At WrestleMania XX she defeated Molly Holly in the first-ever Women's Division Hair vs. Championship Match. After defeating Holly to retain her gold, Victoria humiliated Molly in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden by shaving her head.

Outside of the ring, Victoria has been involved in various programs, speaking on behalf of WWE's Smackdown! Your Vote program, encouraging the youth of America to exercise their right to vote. While Victoria has always stressed the importance of children to be physically active, she believes it is also imperative to get a good education. Victoria studied biology at several colleges: Riverside Community, Loma Linda University and UCLA. She worked at the Inland Eye and Tissue Bank in Redlands, Calif., for three years.

Victoria has also shown over the years that she feels that success should only come from hard work. She's a strong believer that nothing should be handed to you in life. Source: WWE.com

I kind've expected today to be Victoria.

It seems like they are doing wrestlers/divas who weren't in the game last year.

I'm calling Paul London tomorrow and Hawkins/Ryder on Friday.

Victoria looks great. Her hair moves realistically, which surprises me. I like the new Widow's Peak animation. It looks better and less rushed than the animation I associate with the Widow's Peak in SmackDown games.

I don't know if SVR09 will have an official online league system built into the game. :whistle2:k I assume not and is why I will have to create a structure for our online league. I am only running the 360 SVR09 league---as I don't want to buy the game twice. ;)

Carlito spits in the face of people who don't want to be cool, and apparently, many WWE Superstars fall into the category.

Exceptionally opinionated and full of himself, the second-generation Superstar (who is the son of the legendary Carlos Colon) projects quite the smooth demeanor. Armed with an apple in hand, Carlito isn't afraid to unload a mouthful of apple and spit it into your face if you're not cool enough in his eyes.

Of course, WWE Superstars haven't taken well to Carlito's cooler-than-thou attitude, which has oozed from the Caribbean native since his dramatic debut in October 2004, when he defeated John Cena for the United States Championship in his very first night on SmackDown.

Carlito found his voice in his own show when "Carlito's Cabana" debuted in 2005. Irritating and disrespectful to countless Superstars on the Cabana, Carlito maintained his spot as one of the most loathed Superstars on SmackDown.Source: WWE.com

Every year, THQ and Yuke's put out a WWE game, and every year, fans piss and moan because the roster is out of date -- someone switched shows, someone won a championship, and so on.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 gives you the power to shut up and fix any continuity errors.

Yes, via the Roster Editor, fans can pop into the game's roster and switch Superstars to whatever brand they like (Raw, SmackDown, ECW, Free Agent, Legend, or a special classification that's only available after being unlocked), swap titles, decide who is clean and who is dirty, as well as view stats and Abilities. In addition to the Roster Editor, SVR 09 packs a feature called Team Management. Here, you can create or destroy tag teams, give the duo a name, or add others to the stable.

wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2009-20081009031208134-000.jpg

The power is yours.

These changes only affect the exhibition stuff -- i.e. changing a champion isn't reflected in Road to WrestleMania or Career Mode -- but both of these modes are good for every character -- created, unlocked, Diva, etc. -- in the game and available from the moment you turn on the system.

Thats a cool concept. I admit that was one of the things I didn't enjoy about the past games, but it didn't bother me that bad I could have lived with or without it. Is it sad I am looking more foward to this than I am games like gears 2? I love wrestling a little to much.

That gets a "holy crap" from me. The more I find out the more it sucks that this will be the last SmackDown game.

Yuke's seems to be giving it one final grand hurrah.

This isn't the last game.

They're doing LoW, but this is their last Smackdown game.

... anyway, I enjoy the fact that Smackdown has finally implemented something that should have been in the game for years. Hell, the ability to switch 'brands' was in WCW/nWo Thunder.

What I *am* extremely happy about is the fact that you can switch the clean/dirty, just so the crowd will react the right way during an entrance.

Oh really? If so, hopefully Yuke's continues adding features and improvements into the 2010 title. If this year's create-a-move can only be applied to finishers, I'd like to see SVR10 (which is weird, by the way; SVR"10") give us the ability to create a wrestler full of created moves. That would be incredible.

Huh, I suppose I'm wrong... I was simply under that impression because people kept saying *this* was the last one, with LoW being the 'last gasp' for the contract, so to speak.

I admit, I'd be happy to be wrong... as stale as SvsR is, I'd rather have a feature packed stale game than someone starting from scratch (especially after we've seen how Impact! went).

Edit - somehow it's taken me this long to realize that people have been confusing 'contract runs out in 2009' and 'contract runs out WITH 2009'. Unless, of course, it runs out mid-year, which would be odd.

Finally, I like to recreate the PPV matches so this will make it much easier for me.

Only thing I hope that they fixed from last year is the targeting system. I dont know why the hell they took it out.

Wasn't there a roster edit in Shut Your Mouth?? I could be remembering wrong. Either way it's good that they have it in this upcoming game!

Yeah, I could have sworn one of the early SmackDown games had the feature. I think it was the title that also featured stats tracking. :whistle2:k

After more than one year away from the ring, Big Show made his long-awaited return to sports-entertainment when the immense monster re-emerged at No Way Out 2008 – almost eight years to the date of his debut in WWE.

Last seen carrying the ECW Championship in the Land of the Extreme, the self-proclaimed "raw-boned bastard that breaks things and moves the immovable objects" is one of the most dominant forces in sports-entertainment history. Returning from a 14-month hiatus, Big Show has once again engulfed WWE with his gargantuan paws and the goliath looks to wreak more carnage than ever before.

Reminiscent of Andre the Giant and Big John Studd before him, the pound-for-pound World's Largest Athlete is a feared competitor who can intimidate an opponent with his size and stare alone. Big Show's measurements are astounding: 441 pounds; 7-feet of raw girth and might; 22 EEEEE shoe size; 22 1/2 ring size and a 64-inch chest.

Big Show made his in-ring debut in WCW where he left a massive impression as The Giant, and captured the WCW Championship on two occasions, along with the WCW Tag Team Titles. The Giant had an immediate impact in WCW, focusing his attention on some of the biggest icons in the industry, from Hulk Hogan to The "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

In 1999, the mighty giant became a worldwide star upon signing with WWE. He continued to collide with Superstars of great renown and captured countless titles, including the WWE Championship. From "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to The Rock to Undertaker to Triple H, Big Show has battled and manhandled the top names in sports-entertainment. Source: WWE.com

The THQ&A

rated-r-583: will the new tag team improvements be available in six man tag matches?

Bryan Williams: Yes. All of the new tag team improvements will be supported within six-man normal tag team matches. In fact, the new tag team improvements will be supported in all normal-ruled tag team matches, such as the aforementioned normal six-man tag team match, one on tag handicap match, one on trio handicap match and tag on trio handicap match.

M_uNiT2k5: Will the online of '09 for the PS3 version support headsets this year?

Bryan Williams: Yes. The PlayStation 3 version of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 will support the headset online.

GloatingWalnut: When you create a stable will you be able to give the team a tag team finisher?

Bryan Williams: Yes. In fact, until your Superstars have been formally legitimized within the game as a stable or tag team, you won't be able to perform a tag team finisher during gameplay. It's one of the many perks to creating a stable or team. Similar to all other moves in the game, tag team finishers can be assigned within Create A Move-Set.

Deadmantombtone445: Do the CAWS have a new character selection screen this year instead of that black box showing your character inside it?

Bryan Williams: Yes we do. In WWE SmackDown vs. 2009, CAS characters will no longer be confined within a box or any other enclosed structure. CAS characters on the Superstar Select Screen and match up or versus screen will appear as a render similar to the default WWE Superstars and Divas.

Mr.Rangers: Do abilities have to be unlocked in career mode to be added to a CAW Superstar or can they be assigned as soon as you have created one ? Also, we have seen a little of career mode and to me personally it looks sort of like the season mode that was in Here Comes The Pain, were you trying to recapture that style or is it something completely new ?

Bryan Williams: You are correct in that abilities need to be unlocked in Career Mode in order to assign them to CAS characters. There is a helpful menu within Career Mode that clearly explains how to unlock each one of the abilities, so there won't be any guessing involved.

BestGamerAliveMVP: Will we have the choice of using the original stats for the superstars we put in career mode?

Bryan Williams: Whomever you choose to progress through Career Mode with (CAS or Superstar/Diva) will start out with minimal attributes. One of the things we really wanted to stress with Career Mode was a sense of character growth and accomplishment. This allows players to take their characters and build them up from the bottom to the top.

ShawnDamian: Does CAW Mode contain more in Smackdown Vs. Raw 2009 than it did in Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008 in terms of CAW parts such as hairstyles, clothes, boots, shoes, and necklaces?

Bryan Williams: Yes. We update Create-A-Superstar with new parts every year. We've added roughly 30% new parts to Create-A-Superstar this year, ranging from clothing to shoes, accessories, hairstyles, etc.

Stormruin: In career mode...if we have already taken a CAW through and raised their stats will their stats reset automatically if we decide to take them back through or will we have the option to start over or raise them more?

Bryan Williams: Attributes for your CAS or WWE Superstar will never be reset. However, once your character has reached an overall of 100, you won't be able to build them up any further.

Stormruin: Can we go for the tag team titles in Career Mode?

Bryan Williams: Yes. Players can compete for both the WWE Tag Team and World Tag Team Championships.

PaintMeBloodRed: Will there finally be more than 2 animated ways to throw your opponent from the top of the Hell in a Cell structure?

Bryan Williams: You can actually throw an opponent off the Hell in a Cell ceiling in a few different ways. You can grapple your opponent near the ceiling's edge and toss them off, but the best way to toss an opponent off the ceiling is to use an Ultimate Control Grapple. You can use the Chokeslam, Lift Up, Samoan Drop and Piledriver Ultimate Control Grapples to manually throw your opponent off the ceiling. Just hoist the opponent up, walk toward the ceiling's edge and bombs away!

Jeff_Extreme_Hardy: Is the Elimination Chamber in the game?

Bryan Williams: Yes. The Elimination Chamber is a featured match type in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009.

wwefnfurlife: Now bryan/cory, this im sure has been asked a ton of times, but, when will the hell in a cell have the ability to get weapons under the ring. as of now the space is small, but in real matches, there is always weapon use, when will this factor into the sd series???

Bryan Williams: You'll definitely see these improvements implemented sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, that's all I'm at liberty to say for now.

wwefnfurlife: any chance of the armageddon hell in a cell returning....

Bryan Williams: The Armageddon Hell in a Cell match type will be available in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009.

baseballjohny29: In the career mode.......is the mode over once you've won a title, or are you able to continue career mode and defend those titles?

Bryan Williams: What's so cool about Career Mode is that there is no end. You can play through as many years and collect as many titles as you'd like. This is something we have distinctly seen as a fan request. And yes, Career Mode will feature title defenses.

KNIQKNAQ98: For the blood system is it the same as the previous year and if so I was wondering for future Smackdown games could make it so like when a superstar is bleeding and the more blood he spills it could affect his stamina?

Bryan Williams: The blood system is similar to previous iterations, but you'll definitely see some subtle visual improvements. Whether big or small, we like to make sure that everything in the game receives some kind of improvement, and bleeding is no exception.

KNIQKNAQ98: For future SD games is there a way we could transfer our CAWs to the next game?

Bryan Williams: I can definitely say that we've had plenty discussions about this feature. The big roadblock we have is that we want to continue improving our Create-A-Superstar mode. The more improvements we make and the more parts we remove and add make this carry-over feature near impossible. If we chose to keep the Create-A-Superstar mode exactly the same or near the same as the previous year, then we would be able to support this. However, we don't want to cheat you guys out of all the improvements we can make in the mode. We want this creation tool to be the best in the business. So in short, this is a difficult feature to add for us, but we are currently coming up with clever ways to help users out with this in the future.

Normally, William Regal is one of WWE's most smug and haughty Superstars. A distinguished Englishman, Regal finds most others crass and downright unworthy of his time. While presenting himself as a dignified man away from the ring, Regal is a sadistic mat wrestler inside the squared circle, taking great pleasure in torturing his adversaries with stiff strikes and brutal submission holds.

Learning the ropes as a young teenager, the native of Blackpool, England traveled across the United Kingdom wrestling as part of carnivals. Facing off against challengers from the carnival circuit as well as from the crowd, Regal quickly earned a reputation as a lethal opponent, with fists of iron and dozens of different holds to render his adversaries helpless. Always interested in sharpening his tools as a wrestler, Regal traveled across the world, winning several championships in Europe, the Middle East and Japan before landing in WCW in 1993. There, Regal held the WCW Television Championship on four occasions; he also nearly won the WCW Tag Team Championship on several occasions with Bobby Eaton and Squire David Taylor, and also had a memorable rivalry with Finlay that saw the Irish brawler break Regal's nose during a match in 1996. Regal came to WWE for a short time in 1998, but headed back to WCW shortly thereafter.

Regal finally hit it big when he returned to WWE in 2000. Less than a month after his return, Regal defeated Al Snow for the European Championship that October. In April 2001, he would defeat Snow again to earn a different title: WWE Commissioner. Regal earned several chances at the Intercontinental Championship that summer; he was unsuccessful, but after enlisting Tajiri as his assistant, Regal became a key figure in WWE's battle with the ECW/WCW Alliance.

The Englishman also used his class and wit to determine the week-to-week function of the entire Monday night roster as the General Manager of the Raw brand, keeping in line "pillicks" and competitors alike. Arguably his crowning achievement, however, was becoming really regal by winning the 2008 WWE King of the Ring Tournament. Ultimately, his misuse of authority - blackening arenas and cutting microphone feeds - came to an end when Mr. Kennedy defeated Regal in a Loser Gets Fired Match on the May 19 edition of Raw. But that wouldn't be the last of the cunning Englishman, who soon resurfaced on Monday nights, seeking competition as sports-entertainment's hottest "free agent."Source: WWE.com

WWE SVR 09: Highlight Reel Announced
Create, edit, and share your best in-ring moments with this year's game.
by Greg Miller

October 13, 2008 - There's a buzzword in the videogame world right now; it's community. True, games have always had dedicated audiences that were linked together by message boards, tin cans on string, etc., but now the merging of games and online functions is creating all sorts of ways for fans to get together and go nuts about their favs.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is no exception. In addition to the usual online matches, SVR 09 is tossing in Highlight Reel, an option where you can record parts of your matches, save them, edit them together, and then upload the file for the world to see.

OMFG.

The feature seems like it'll be easy enough to use. Players will do something cool in their matches; pause the game; and have the option to watch the last 30 seconds of gameplay while changing camera angles, manually moving the point of view, and fast forwarding and rewinding at will. If you dig a 30-second spot, you can save the clip and continue the match -- saving other replays whenever you feel like it. When the match is over, you can jump into the Highlight Reel option and get to work on your masterpiece.

Once you're in the editing tool, you're going to have a handful of options at your fingertips. You can toss in multiple clips, put transitions between them, add effects such as slow motion and filters, and pipe in sounds that include music from your system's playlist. There will be editable graphics and logos, the ability to change camera angles here as well, and more. When it's all said and done, you can create a custom, virtual DVD Cover with different backgrounds, Superstar photos, graphics, and custom text. You can even create your own screenshots -- complete with graphics, filters and more -- in the editing tool.

wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2009-20081013113416467-000.jpg

You'll be able to save 20 of these movies, and yes, your created Superstars and finishers will be supported in this mode. When you think you've got squared-circle gold, you can upload your videos and/or screens and hop on the SVR server to download what the other rabid WWE fans have made.

I mean if you know for certain who those locked wrestlers are...

The only two I can think of are Mike Knox and Maryse.
Mick Foley, but no.

We'll see, shall we? I didn't think we'd have any more roster surprises.
