What do you mean? I was going to pick this game up with a friend to play co-op and now you've given me pause. In Demons Souls it was fairly easy - you just had to drop your sign somewhere your friend would see it. Is it different in Dark Souls?
It's frustrating trying to find the sign sometimes. Use private chat to talk if you only have one friend, no party or ingame chat. If playing with more than one friend, use Skype, vent, etc.

I have a lot of complaints about co-op, but I've learned to deal with them.

edit: (post submitted while I was typing)

Picked up Bikini Samurai Squad. Also have high expectations as an earlier post.

Snagged Dragon's Dogma, thinking about Battleblock  Theatre & Dark Souls on Monday.  All the horror stories regarding the frustration gives me pause.  I play games to have fun, not to get worked up... But then again I keep hearing how great it is.  Eh, it's $5, looks like it's getting added to the massive backlog!

Dark Souls looks beautiful and I've hear many good things about it, but I thought there was no true co-op in Dark Souls and you would just be teamed up with a stranger who could attack you if they so desired.

As to the topic of hard games, i don't mind hard games, what I do hate is losing items and weapons. You guys said it was patched to be easier, do you still lose your souls if you don't get back to them and can douchebag players attack you randomly?

1. Game looks great.
2. No TRUE co-op.
- Player can join in when you summon them.
- If summoned or you're transformed, anyone can invade your world and screw stuff up.
3. The game VERY HARD.
- Takes some good time to get used to.
4. When you die, your earned souls sit at the location you did in.
- You can return to get them. However, if you dir again before getting them, they'll disappear, and where you just died will be replaced.
5. In death you keep your items and weapons. Only souls are lost.
6. Any random douchebag can kill you if you opened your world.

Are there a lot of people who just jump into people's games to grief them? I am surprised this game ever got popular if that's the case. Can you at least restrict what level a player is who joins you? This game would get shitty fast if people just go around killing the newbies who pick up this game from the Cyber Monday sale.

Contemplating la noire, but I've been holding out for the complete edition since I've missed those dlc sales back in August.
Stop contemplating, just buy it!!

Easily one of my favourite games from this gen. It looks great (especially the people) and has an amazing story to boot.

I just talked to a friend who I haven't really spoken to in years (you know, one of those people from high school you have on your Facebook friends list but never speak to) about Dark Souls.  He and I used to sit in classes and discuss different RPGs, so I respect his opinion.

He says Dark Souls is a difficult game.  Not impossible but very frustrating for new players.  According to him, the game was actually less difficult in some ways pre-patch because there were incredibly overpowered items/abilities (Crystal Ring Shield, Iron Skin, Pyromancy in general) that ended up being nerfed a good bit.  The patch also increased the amount of souls dropped by some bosses and monsters, the drop rates were increased and the aggro/detection range for some enemies was reduced.  In his opinion the patch didn't make the game easier, just a bit more balanced.  The game is about patience, learning enemy patterns and learning from mistakes (which does include dying a good bit on occasion).  It is difficult, but fair.

I asked about players Invading your game for PvP and griefing.  He told me that you can put yourself to "offline" mode by just being in a party with party chat on and that means you can't be invaded (just don't do it while running around in game because it pushes you back to the main menu).  He also mentioned that you can only be invaded in human form.  And he said that there are hackers that do indeed grief a bit, but that it isn't any different from Halo or CoD in that respect.

It was a fairly short conversation but I thought I'd post this for people like me who are talking themselves into or out of buying Dark Souls on Monday.

Somehow this reminds me of Diablo II where some douchebags instakill you on waypoints whenever you try to get your stuff back lol...will play it offline

If you're in a party, it automatically puts you in offline mode. No one can join to help or destroy. As long as you're not in human form, I don't think anyone can join.

I can't believe there is any hesitation on Dark Souls. $5 is a slamdunk. The game isn't for everyone, but $5 is worth the chance to take to see if it is. Because if it is, it will be one of those experiences you never forget.

$5 can buy me a game I know I will definitely like, like shmups or fighters which also have high learning curves. I already have Demons Souls and it's honestly kind of a chore to play - I understand this game is even more unforgiving. I really liked Dragon's Dogma, though, so I guess I'll just see if I want to play Dark Arisen.

Yea, but you already know it is not your thing, thus its not really a debate.

I may bite on la noire then. Thanks! And the most recent difficult game I've played where I just had to tough it out was ninja gaiden 2.

I definitely would bite on LA Noire if you like gaming experiences. The gameplay itself is nothing special, but if you dig the idea of playing an investigator in old style Los Angeles, then this game does that quite well.

I really enjoyed LA Noire.  I'd recommend it to most people.

Probably going to bite on Dark Souls.  Is the DLC mandatory for a game experience or can I skip it?

I skipped it because the framerate on 360 is pretty awful.

I skipped it because the game sounds awful.
I played it with a friend for a little bit, and you couldn't pay me to play this game.

It's not that the game is difficult per se, it just feels like the developers went out of their way to make the enemies as punishing as possible to make up for the mediocre gameplay.

Are "48 hour" codes only for members who never "went Gold", or if I let my Gold account expire into Silver, can I then use a 48 hour code? I want to try Batman: Arkham Origins' multiplayer but my Gold will expire before it arrives next week.

48hr codes are for anyone who isn't gold.

As long as your account is Silver/Free, you can use trials

Does anyone know if the Mark of the Ninja dlc is good? What does it add?

I just got done it an hour ago. I liked it. Its a prequel mission. Its relatively long. Adds a new skin, distraction item, and the other type item. Also adds commentary. Its well worth the $1.70 price tag.

It probably would have been one of my most regretted purchases ever if I had paid full price for it, but at $1 and change, I didn't feel so bad.

Let me revisit the game for about an hour to do everything (the mission and all the achievements it added)

If you just bought the game in this sale, I would definitely recommend just picking it up with it because everything will be new.

If you're like me who already 100%-ed the game when it came out, I would only get it if you are a completionist/achievement hunter

I didn't care about the dev commentary, so other than that you get:

-1 mission (prequel to the story)

-1 new outfit/play-style (Non-lethal takedowns)

- 2 new equipment/items (1 attack item: Toxic Fungus and 1 support item: Dusk Moths which disables spotlights and enemies

Seems well worth the current asking price for me..and if you're a huge fan of the base game, it doesn't seem like a terrible value even at full asking.

I finished the game a while ago. I didn't 100% it (not a completionist) so I don't think I'll get this then.

I personally can't think of a better sync between gameplay and enemy AI than the Soul series.

picked up dragonborn might get dawngaurd not sure (any input?) probably get mark of the ninja, dust, and battleblock aswell. Is sleeping dogs any good?

Is sleeping dogs any good? Hell yeah. Ill use the basic and common comparison. Think GTA, but in Hong Kong, good action moves for the main protagonist, and a really good story.

I wish they could do a good Borderlands 2 special, been wanting to play it with my bud for a good while.

I just started Sleeping Dogs today. Only a few missions in (on Mission 9 or so) and I can say it's fairly fun so far. The driving is ok and the hand-to-hand combat plays similar to Batman: Arkham Asylum/City.

Not every CAG is here to throw $5 on a game "cuz it's cheap" some of us are still here just to save on the games we research and know we want to buy, just not at full retail. So while you still may be right saying you "can't believe" people would hesitate doesn't seem valid when you just said it isn't for everyone.

'My useless apps' and 'My why im gonna spend money on tv stuff if i can download it for free' punchcards have been extended until 31st of december. Xbox rewards team is laaaazy and painfully predictible.

Those people aren't in here really debating the merits of the purchase. They know what they want and use the site to find it for the price they want.

As to my statement of it may not be for everyone, I stated it was worth the chance because the game is good enough that for those it will click with, it will be a gaming experience they likely will cherish for years to come. It is a very well rated game, by reviewers and gamers alike, so there is some precedent to it being a great experience for some.

I bought Dark Souls when it was on sale for $10. Played it for a couple hours and didn't enjoy it, haven't bothered to play it since. If I didn't have a bunch of MS Points I got for cheap during when MS Store had the crazy sale in May, i would have felt burned by the purchase.

So yeah, this game is definitely not for everyone. In fact, stay far from it if you don't like very difficult games.

Hmm... do these GwG "bonus deals" (such as Gears of War 2 and Gears of War Judgement) last until the next GwG (ie: 'Shoot Many Robots' on the 16th)? I vaguely remember XBL did this before for another GwG. Trying to figure out where to place these complimentary GwG deals within the OP.

I guess under Mystery Markdowns until further notice.

Oh well, I guess nothing for me at all this year, short of MS adding something to Mondays list. All in all just a big disappointment.
