  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

glad im renting this one through gamefly. it shipped on monday and STILL isnt here! anyone thinking of using the service in texas know that the austin shipping center is gone so now it takes up to 5 days to get a game from shipping date, ridiculous.

I'm gonna be picking up Destiny next week but some of the comments around the interwebz has be second guessing my decision. A lot of people are saying it's not worth $60 ($70 in my case because it's Canada).

Anyone who has the game, would you kindly post your honest (hopefully unbiased) views on the game? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Loving it so far. Made tons of new friends. This is pretty much a mini MMO Diablo FPS style game. You don't have to play PvP and can still have a good time, or just play PvP and still enjoy the game. Having friends or willing to make new ones to game with co-op is an added bonus. Playing solo is okay for the story, but you definitely want to be playing with others for most of the game because of teamwork.

Raids and bigger events are coming next week, so I can't really give a definite answer on whether this game is worth 70 CAD to you or not, but I've been playing it for 4 days in a row and still having fun.

Was not expecting so many mixed thoughts on destiny

i didnt pay much mind to it but i had assumed it was gonna be good

I actually really like Destiny, but I've been taking it slowly. I think you'd enjoy it best if you took it slow with a few a friend or two and  took some time to search for the golden chests and dead ghosts.

I feel Destiny a bit generic, but the whole MMOish feel is what it's all about. I am enjoying it as long as i find someone in the tower to do some co-op, sadly none of my friends got it. So if anyone is interested in some jolly co-op, i'll leave my GT: GracedRapier60 (X360)

The thing about Destiny is you have to wonder how long that initial thrill is gonna last. There's not enough VARIED content to give this game long lasting appeal, beyond a month or so. Especially if all you're doing is grinding, grinding, grinding for days. The potential to get burned out is there. With a game like Diablo, there's 6 classes, all with different abilities and weapons, as well as Rifts, Bounties, and increasing difficulties. Destiny offers nothing like that.

That said...I'm digging it, for now.

It wins the most generic game of the year award. I hit max lvl which is 20 but now i gotta grind to get strange coins and vanguard marks to buy new guns and armor, its an mmo alright. If you dont like grinding then u wont be playing Destiny for long. The last story mission is so weak.
20 is not the max level. I have at least half a dozen PSN friends who are over 20.

I don't understand the super negative reviews. Fundamentally, the game isn't bad, just generic. I'm seeing some people treat the game like it's Sonic 06 or Duke Nukem Forever. Apparently crappy gameplay, long load times, bad graphics, dumb characters is equal to generic everything.

Imagine how all those people who paid outrageous money for the ghosts editions feel now after not only getting a very damaged cheap cardboard box but also a average generic game that will probably fall in price fast even newegg already had it for $50 days after launch and I think a retailer had it for $50 on eBay to day after launch.

Never buy limited editions.

Maybe the stuff included increases in value as the years pass, but not interested in anything except add-on DLC at a discounted price.

It's because of the hype.

Touting 180 awards, sounding like it wrapped up GOTY, advertised 4 times more than any other game, etc. it's like one of those movies that gets hyped so much by your friends that when you finally go see it, it is only mediocre because of the hi hopes.

This is compounded by the fact that almost the whole story is voiced almost monotone. The story itself is overstuffed with info or leaves out too much back story to pull you in. To kind of compare, ME 3 was overstuffed with info but you seek it out while the main compelling story is voiced and decently done.

Destiny throws a bunch of facts out yet leaves out the story telling aspect.

Saw at Costco just now Xbox One plus any game of your choice for 384.99 plus it says you get $50 off your purchase so more like 334.99$. Seems decent. They had a bunch of destiny, Titanfall, madden 15, watch dogs, and wolfenstein

I know everywhere is doing the same deal but this seems like the lowest out of pocket cost I've seen.

I know everywhere is doing the same deal but this seems like the lowest out of pocket cost I've seen.
I believe the extra $50 off is with the purchase of a game. That's essentially your free game (except that it doesn't cover the whole cost). So I think it's more like $384.99 with a free game as long as your game is $50 or less.

Oh okay, the other stores deal is better then

Never buy limited editions.

Maybe the stuff included increases in value as the years pass, but not interested in anything except add-on DLC at a discounted price.
Well, I paid $72 + tax for my Xbone Destiny LE at BB after GCU + Movers. Sold the expansion pass for $33 and traded the game to GS for $43 (got the digital version + pass on 360 with some extra XBL cred I had)

So I definitely didn't lost money on the deal. (plus got a nifty t-shirt)

Does anyone know why the Diablo 3 UE for Xbone disc is labeled "Disc 1 of 1?"

I decided to bite on the Borderlands games and DLC, the downloads are taking forever. Soooo while letting Monaco run in the background i think that extra 1000 rewards points will be within my reach.

I keep telling you guys, "borrow" the GOTY edition from Gamestop and install the DLC disc then return it. Saves money and download time.

To be honest, Destiny is a fun game. Average single player like most shooters, if you prefer to do the story on your own. Awesome story co-op experience if you do it with friends.

Even without friends, you get to enjoy the Strike co-op with matchmaking. Then you get to do all those story and co-op levels again on higher difficulties like all shooters, except you get better loot. Higher difficulties mobs have more health, more fancy moves, and more of them.

Multiplayer, like all shooters, you'll find some love it and some hate it. You need to be a demi-god, If you go in without your skill tree decently developed. You also have to find your favorite weapons, scout, auto, fusion, shotgun, machine gun or rocket, if you want to have a chance in it. For example, you like to CQC and you use a scout rifle, you deserve to get slaughtered. Most maps are CQC oriented, so don't be surprised if you see everyone running around with auto rifles, shotguns and fusion rifles.

There are also daily bounties, daily heroic story missions, weekly strike missions and time limited events to spice things up.

With the rep system, you eventually will get the level 20 purple weapons/armor you want. People who plays more might get them faster, but that's because they play more. There's also a limit on how much rep and marks you can earn in a week, so the difference won't be that obvious unless you come into the game several months later.

Is this a groundbreaking FPS game of the century? Probably not. Is it fun? Yes it is, if you like decently long story campaign, good co-op and multiplayer.

So should you buy it now or later when it's on sale? Well, it depends what you are getting later this year. It takes roughly 20 hours to get to level 20. Then, only the god of luck knows how long it'll take you to get to level 30. So to me, this is a good game to have between now and my next game in couple months.

^This, thats the plan. i'm getting all the non-GOTY stuff on sale, then hoping to xbox god that one of my local Gamestops has a used copy close by.

But at the cost of your very soul!

(Or just feeling bad--yes, even regarding a moneygrubbing deceitful store's built-in policy loophole, yes some of us still have a sense of right and wrong over such a thing.)

Meh, I don't see it as "right/wrong" just as taking advantage of their policies, the same way they take advantage of soccer moms :p

Finished Mafia II tonight.  I know some of you bought it for cheap recently. The game is fun and the story is pretty well done but I have some advice if you choose to play it on hard.  Take the combat slowly (especially the chapter 14 and 15).  The game has weird enemy spawns and there are a lot of cheap deaths in the game. Combine that with long checkpoints and you end up playing the same sections over and over learning the spawns and inching closer to making it from checkpoint to checkpoint.  Game would have been more fun on a lower difficulty but I wanted the Tough as nails achievement for 100.

Finished it recently too, really loved the game you get attached to the main characters pretty quick and the story was really well too. The driving took some getting used too though but i really hated the shooting though very annoying but otherwise a good pickup for 5 dollars

I thought the difficulty was perfect on hard. I recently played through the game again for the story and the dlc on normal and it was just too easy at parts. It can spike on hard but as long as you don't sprint through it (like you said) it is more than reasonable.

You definitely lost money on that, assuming digital guardian edition is $90 on 360 as well.

I have no problem with a regular LE game, i should have worded it differently. While all that extra filler content that I would never read, as long as I get some kind of discount with the DLC, it's a fairly decent value.

Stuff like Halo 3 Legendary Edition, Ghost Edition, and the numerous "special editions" with figurines is something I would never buy. Maybe if the Master Chief helmet was wearable, but everything else seems like a waste of money.

The Limited Edition of Destiny was totally worth it, and I usually don't go for the expensive "limited" stuff. But this had the game and expansion pass, which is $95 right there. I paid $5 more and got the special Sparrow, emblem, and Vanguard Armory access, plus the book of physical extras is extremely well done in my opinion.

Yeah I would not say the difficulty was not balanced but rather the level design sometimes worked against you. I had several points where the checkpoint would start me in the middle of guys shooting and I would just die before I could even do anything. I also had time where I would go through a door or around a corner and a guy pops out and kills me in one shot. I do not mind the difficulty but when the level design sometimes does not even give you a fair chance to take cover it can get frustrating. I liked the game though and I have the DLC which I am going to start now.

Edit: Also not having the ability to blind fire was a poor design when you have guys that bum rush you.

Actually i just did this, Got BL2 for $5 (digital). Bought and returned the GOTY used (after DLing the add on pack). Picked up the headhunters DLC and Vault hunter Pack 2 for about $11 on sale. Got WELL OVER $120 worth of content and the game ....for about $16 when all said and done. My soul feels great actually. Not to mention that $16 was free thx to the Tyrant Unleashed coupon debacle.

How do you even return games? I've never tried that and I'm genuinely curious. Don't they give you another copy of the same game?

You can return any "Pre-Owned" gamestop game within a 7-day period for any reason. They usually try to offer you another copy, but just politely decline it and give them a BS reason why you dont want it. My Gamestop is great, so they wont even ask me why i returned it. I've even gotten away with returning a Brand new game a few times, but thats YMMV in most cases.

anyone else that was not a destiny believer glad they passed on it as it is now getting bad reviews. a 6 from both gamespot and polygon
Yes, im VERY happy i didnt go digital day 1, like i was thinking on doing. I gave up on day 1 releases a few years ago. Glad i stuck to my guns.

Yeah, I was actually thinking of jumping in on next gen to play, but wasn't willing to do it without reviews. Glad I held off. Maybe we'll see some better deals in time for Halo MCC.

I am loving Destiny. Not sure why the reviews are not liking it.

Opinions on it from real gamers seem to be split into love it or "meh."

I'm loving it as well. Honestly though, I do find myself getting bored when running missions solo. Playing with other people sure makes it better.

I've really enjoyed the combat in Destiny. I was playing through the Moon missions and had a lot of fun, even playing by myself. I think joining random people for the optional missions during free roam sessions has been one of my favorite parts.

Yes, I had it pre-ordered but was busy during the launch and it sat unopened for a couple days. Now that I read it's pretty much the same experience as beta, it's going back to the store until it drops in price.

Question for Games With Gold, Can 7 Day passes be used to get them? Or does that function the same as a 2 day trial?

I literally only want one game on there, only reason I am even bothering.

If I'm not mistaken, anything less than a month is a trial.

Polygon is a shit site for reviews. They trashed Ryse, Crimson Dragon, Max: Curse Of Brotherhood, etc...and I found myself enjoying those games quite a bit. They're way too rough on games. The Last Of Us got a 7.5, lol, fuck outta here.
