Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Hahaha another Borderlands 2 sale... Good price if you STILL haven't picked it up, but yeah.... Just yeah.
The Headhunter 5: Son of Crawmerax DLC has never been on sale before. It's the final piece of DLC, so that's a good opportunity for anyone who wants to complete their BL2 DLC set.

How similar is Borderlands 1/2 and Destiny?

A lot of people seem to compare Destiny to the Borderlands series, and having never played one, $5 looks like a good price point to jump into the series. Considering I plan on picking up Destiny soon (probably after midterms), I just wanted some opinions on the game.

I find it kinda odd how Borderlands is on sale on Destiny's release date, since both games are kinda similar.

Borderlands is decidedly less serious in tone than Destiny, and the gunplay isn't nearly as good. Otherwise, they are both co-op RPG shooter games, so they are quite similar. Borderlands would give you a good intro to the type of game Destiny is if you are unfamiliar.

Xbox 360 uses roughly 0.15 kW-h of electricity. So 10 hours is roughly 1.5kW-hs which for most people will cost between 11 and 25 cents.
This.

Considering I can see on my Frriends list just how often a lot of people just leave their XBox on 24/7, and I know they're not anomalies, I think you're prooooooooooooobably ok letting it run for 10 hrs overnight twice a month. I've brought one of those things home that monitors your electrical usage on big appliances and... you don't save much by turning most of them off. Yes, try to keep your AC usage down a bit and that actually helps. But entertainment stuff (TV's, consoles, computers, etc).... meh, it's pretty negligible.

To be fair, my Xbox is in a well-ventilated area and heating has never, ever been an issue. Overheating is maybe a more legit problem for some though I guess, though we're getting to the time of year in North America and Europe where everyone's PC's will feel like they've been overclocked again (yay winter!)...

Then again, I'm trying to talk reason to a group here who argues about electrical usage from leaving an XBox on as being not "cost-effective", but then buys games simply to put them in a backlog they'll never get to...

This is the best thing I've read today.

Pass on Borderlands since I have them on PS3. Thanks for the reminder that I need to play them though, Microsoft.

No interest on Dead or Alive so looks like nothing for me this week.

Borderlands is decidedly less serious in tone than Destiny, and the gunplay isn't nearly as good. Otherwise, they are both co-op RPG shooter games, so they are quite similar. Borderlands would give you a good intro to the type of game Destiny is if you are unfamiliar.
I'm not certain what 'gunplay' means, but I played the Destiny beta on PS4 and so far I like the Borderlands series much much more. That doesn't mean I don't have Destiny pre-ordered and so I'll be digging into it tomorrow like everyone else, but the Borderlands series is an excellent single-player experience, and even more riotous when played multiplayer. You can also play couch co-op splitscreen if you want (though admittedly the screen gets a little small at that point.)

It seems Bungie took a lot of loot queues from Borderlands, and one thing Borderlands 2 had going for it was a good story (something Destiny seemed to be terribly lacking from the beta.) There is actually some depth to the characters if you pick up all the voice recorders and listen to them, and the Tiny Tina DLC is some of the best DLC I've encountered. For those who have yet to try Borderlands, I think you can't possibly go wrong buying both games for $5 each. Play them in order to get the most out of the story, and then play the Tina DLC.

October update looks ok. First half of the video is just more annoying crap that helps people without Kinect. Double tap is already annoying as potatoes in your nose. I've had the friends list section for about a month now and I really like it, so glad that will be available to everybody soon. I'm looking forward to seeing which friends have unlocked a specific achievement. I'd like to get Xbox messages like text messages on my Windows Phone. The new snap messages looks like WP messaging app. MSN used to do that, but stopped when they switched to Skype.

And aparently that is all there is.
Not necessarily, I seem to say it every week but I'll say it again: almost every week there's usually a small handful of drops that XBLDB picks up around 3am EST.

Off-topic a smidge, but can someone explain to me what the-flipping-hell is the point of getting to a midnight release early, like mid-afternoon early? I seriously don't get it. Places like GameStop aren't limiting how many pre-orders they're taking for upcoming games, right? I rode past a GS at 5pm tonight and there was a line out the door and literally around the plaza, presumedly for DESTINY tonight. I guess I'm just too old for such silly shit, I really don't understand the concept, if I want a game THAT BAD I'd just pre-order with Release Day delivery.

Yeah hype is a powerful thing. Probably those in line would do the same for a new halo game and this is the next best thing. But yeah fuck that very few things Id wait for a long line now. New video game is not one of them.

Sometimes they give out free stuff. The only time I waited 3+ hours was for Xbox One that I didn't pre-order. Got some neat stuff that I tossed somewhere never to be seen again. The Gamestop by me runs midnight events really bad, so I haven't been to one for a game since Resident Evil 6. You have to wait in line to get a ticket, once you have that ticket you wait in another line, and then they put you in either pre-order line or not pre-order line.

Question #1 what the hell is Date Night? (is it the night game sales change over?) and Question #2 Why isnt Xbldb picking up any of these games that people are finding? (Sorry, i've been absent from XBL deals thread for awhile now) I know, shame on me.
#1. Correcto mundo. It started off as a joke about Monday night being like a blind date, hence "date night".

#2 XBLDB scrapes data from Xbox.com listings, a few months back it started picking up deals slower which only leads me to believe that Spylon (the CAG that graciously designed XBLDB) has cranked down how often his coding checks Xbox.com listings, though unconfirmed.

FIFA 15 demo is up on X1, 3gb.

WatchDogs is 30% off for X1 and Worms Battlegrounds is 40% off on X1

It's still stuff like branded t-shirts and lanyards and garbage though, right...? That's just nuts. I'd wait in a long line like that for something that's invaluable, not worthless.

To me, wasting that much of my day/effort feels like it should be reserved only for things like live events, situations where what you're waiting for truly won't be repeated if you're not there in that moment to catch it. And don't get me wrong, I'm not a diehard concert-goer or sports guy by any means but I'd value those infinitely more than a game branded pen.

To each their own I guess in the end.

All of the bosses respawn so you can farm them for loot. They drop unique items and if the bosses didn't respawn you'd never get them.
Well I guess I never farmed in BL2 since I don't remember fighting any of the main bosses more than once. Only time I fought them again was during true vault hunter.

I thought Borderlands 1 was great. Borderlands 2 to me got boring because they didn't do much to the formula. I would of liked a full armor system or something.

Destiny from the Beta anyway feels like a natural FPS game with RPG elements. Borderlands is a slice of a map, drive here, kill everything, turn in quest, repeat.

I got borderlands 2 for 5 during a xbox fire sale. The stupid bosses respawn and I never went back to it
In addition to the number of characters available, the game's replayability is also driven by the hunt for better loot. Most bosses have a higher than normal chance of dropping at least 1 special item, so respawning makes farming easier.

As far as I remember main bosses do not respawn. Only the "mini" bosses or whatever you want to call them.
Most of the bosses of all types (major, minor, optional) respawn. Of the ones that don't, most don't have specialized loot pools or share a loot pool with a different respawning boss. I do know of one mini-boss with a special loot drop in the 1st DLC that doesn't respawn, but I'm not sure if there are others. There are a few in the first game as well. Though the bosses will be available again in a subsequent playthrough.

I already have the borderlands 2 season pass from a previous sale.  Now, I feel like jumping on this.  But I just feel like it's going to be a GWG eventually.  It would be crazy if it wasn't.  Choices, choices.

So you own the season pass but not the game? For $5 I think i'd like to make use of the thing I already own rather than keep hoping you'll get it free. $5 for either Borderlands game is a great deal. Both games have a ton of content (especially the 2nd) and are a lot of fun to play.

I was only entertaining the idea of waiting due to the fact that the game will be so deep in my backlog that I wouldn't be getting to it for a while. But you also make a valid point. 5 bucks isn't going to the break the bank even if a free version comes out.

Major Nelson posted the weekly sale, nothing that wasn't found last night.

Will get the last BL2 Headhunter pack to complete the DLC collection, heads and all.  Though I still need to get Poker Night 2 for the unlockable heads it provides.

Disappointed last week's Activision sale didn't include the Transformers avatar stuff.  I don't normally care about avatars, but I really like to get the Grimlock and Laserbeak pets.  Is Microsoft doing anything significant with avatars on the XB1?

Gonna bite on Borderlands 2 and skip the original. New to the series, and the backlog has increased by about 6 games the last three weeks.
