Yup, because I'm clearly begging for money and so is everyone here on this forum on a multi billion dollar stage. And for the fans you mean people who bought it on Xbox who can't play it on a Microsoft console because its on PS4 and PC only.

You mean the original fans that bought the first on Dreamcast and just before the sequel was set to arrive, it got cancelled and moved to Xbox?

The fans have been begging him for a few years now to bring the game to Kickstarter to make it a reality since it was never going to happen any other way.

 
That was a super awkward moment when they did the countdown to... What? Asking for money? That was really weird, lol. It did seem very out of place for a company like Sony to be asking for kickstarter money, even if it was at the game makers request.

Well think of this as beta testing. There's a lot that could go wrong with it once it's out in the wild so they just release it with a selection of games they have control over to test it in more hands and can iron out anything else they need to before it hits with the holidays.

 
Lmao Microsoft killed Sony this year. Other than FFVII remake, I really don't care about buying a PS4 yet. Other than Horizon Zero Dawn that game looks pretty dope too

I think I've completely lost the plot to your complaints at this point. First, it was that they were pathetic for "begging" for money like hobos. Now it's all about there being no Xbox One version? I don't think "Shenmue Fans" are all on one platform like you're suggesting, so I'm confused. What is your issue again?

That's what I don't like about this trend of asking us to fund these publisher backed games through Kickstarter or whatever. "Hey we're going to let you pay to make this game and we'll reap all the benefits and we know you'll do it because you want it so bad that we've got you right where we want you and we'll pretend we won't make it otherwise."

I would also imagine that by that time the win10 kernel will be running on the Xbox One, so they probably are waiting until that is ready and running normal.

Alright, I'm going to add my two cents to this argument:

What they are doing regarding Shenmue is horrible. Asking for money on Kickstarter is one thing, although I hate when "big" developers do it, but going onto a big stage, having a countdown, pretending it is a game only to... ask for money? As of now, it's almost reached 50% of it's goal. Do you think, had they announced it a different way, via Twitter or something, would it have reached nearly $1 million in such little time? These people know exactly what they're doing, they don't care about the "fans" or "fans wanting the game", this is the easiest way for them to make the game with the least amount of risk involved.

This way, even if the game sells like crap or doesn't make enough money to "break even", they will have barely sustained a loss considering most of the money came from the sheep fans.

Would have been so cool if they had said "and everyone with an Xbox One has backwards compatibility NOW".

Back to being a cheap ass, I really had hoped MS would have had a big sale during E3. Sales have just been piss poor lately.

And as far as Shenmue is concerned, what I hate about this is how thousands of indie devs use Kickstarter for games. And giving this one, already established IP a huge advantage by announcing it during E3 is just poor taste IMO.

PM'ed the Kickstarter/Shenmue person about whether it would be for Xbox One, and his reply was that the funded game is only currently for PC and PS4.

So yeah, maybe it will come to Xbox eventually, but who knows when.

I don't think it's too bad if the games are 8 gigs or less, not compared to the massive patches some Xbone games have. You'll just have to prioritize what old stuff you want to play first, which is going to be somewhat automatic since they're adding games in waves. The biggest problem will be even more stuff eating up HDD space. If the majority of my games become compatible then that's probably a terabyte alone. Hopefully they allow multidisc games to. Always thought it was weird that ME 2/3 and Dead Space 2/3 never were available digitally, and figured that was why.

How big is ME to anyone who can download it? I think the 360 original was at the old limit of 6.6 gigs.

And is the DLC already available?

 
The Shenmue 3 news is distressing. It doesn't seem like Sega is involved at all - is it not their IP anymore? They could have retooled the Yakuza engine for this game, and it would look much better than anything they could cook up in Unreal engine. The original games had jaw-dropping production values for their time, but this one is going to look like Earth Defense Force. I've always said that I would buy whatever console Shenmue 3 lands on, but this seems like an ill-fated project like the Shenmue MMO.
 
Been waiting all night for it to tell me it was going to update to the new preview thing and apparently it's been on my system since about 8 PM.

Not showing the Banjo Kazooie games or Geometry Wars on my XB1 though.

I don't think it is and that's been the problem for a long time with getting a new one or getting the previous games released again.

I could see Shenmue getting a port if a publisher gets on board, it's pretty much a no-brainer. The fact that the multi language subs/dubs are stretch goals makes it seem like there isn't a real publisher involved. Really, 2 million sounds pretty low for a game with as much detail as Shenmue, a series that was considered a flop because it cost too much to get all the detail in.

It really is niche now, I don't see it selling well beyond the backers, especially with the old games only on Dreamcast and Xbox Prime. It probably isn't going to draw in a lot of new fans being basically a budget title that picks up with a story that's 14 years old.

 
I think Shenmue's creator managed to get the rights somehow. Sega just hasn't thought the game would sell enough for the amount of money it would take. I'm shocked that he's trying to do this game with so little money, this makes me think they have someone willing to throw in money if they prove they can get sales with Kickstarter, kind of like what Iga said was the case for Bloodstained. Sony would be the obvious backer since the exclusivity doesn't really make sense otherwise, but who knows.

They could have retooled the Yakuza engine for this game, and it would look much better than anything they could cook up in Unreal engine. The original games had jaw-dropping production values for their time, but this one is going to look like Earth Defense Force. i play a few times a month, i really enjoy it but thats because I am a big fan of Top Gear and they voice a lot of the stuff in it. If you aren't a Top Gear fan i'm not sure it would be worth it, its pretty standard circuit racing game and i think either you play FH2 or F5 but not both a lot, unless you really really really love racing.
