It's been 3 years since we got a new one. For $60 you get a full single player campaign, tons of multiplayer modes, a full multiplayer map creation tool, and all future dlc maps. In terms of value I would put it up there with Fallout.

I get it though that some people are burned out of shooters or just don't like Halo, but I think it's pretty obvious why ppl are excited. Xbox was built on Halo.

When I bought my Xbox one I was getting it as an investment in a future halo, kind of like when I buy a Nintendo system it is for Zelda :)

I was going to get PS4 first and eventually get XB1 but when they announced MCC, I reversed my decision and got XB1. It is besides the point that I never got around to playing MCC :D

Having said that, Eldritch probably got Halo, he may or may not keep it but he bought it alright. Am I Right, Eldritch? *cough* #glitchNight *cough* :)

Come on, have you actually played destiny? The boss fights are pretty intense and epic. The fact that PvP is as fun as Halo or CoD but it levels your character and earns them worthwhile loot for PvE is awesome. I think they've created an amazing product that will push the envelope of traditional shooters.

I'm not saying I don't like Destiny and the update that came with the Taken King certainly improved it greatly.

I just prefer Halo overall. Multi-player is subjective, but story wise, you have to admit that even Halo 4 was way better than Destiny - - at least in its first iteration.


I'm also just saying that I think 343 did a fine job with the Halo license so didn't agree with the implication that Halo 5 would suck because of them.

I think a lot of people were all doom and gloom for Halo when Bungie jumped ship. I don't think that happened.

Destiny is okay but my $60 for Halo 5 will get me a lot more hours of value than my $60 for Destiny but I'm not much of an MMO guy. WoW burned me out of it, I got a guy to 23 on vanilla destiny and lost interest in the grind, didn't seem worth it for another $60 for more grinding. I'll stick to Smite and Halo :)
 
I think 343 has done an adequate job with Halo.  I used to be huge into Halo.  It's why I chose 360 over PS3.  However after Halo 4, I realized the series (and the genre overall) was just not for me anymore.  I was much more interested in the Naughty Dog games, so I went with PS4 with this gen.  I was thinking about picking up an XONE for Halo 5 and a few other games, but with a baby on the way and a large backlog I just can't justify it.

Timesplitters 2 and 3 especially. Even though I liked Halo 2 more than the first game, Timesplitters is so much better in ... pretty much every way.

Has anybody here ever randomly gotten money added to their Xbox Live account? One day I was on my 360 and noticed I had $32.45. I checked my bank account and there were no transactions for this amount. This happened a few months ago and it's still there. Very strange.

If any of you have not read this article about what happened with the launch of Destiny I highly recommend it. I actually like Destiny and put many hours in but after reading the article I have mixed feelings about supporting the game going forward. Basically because Bungie created shit tools for creating the game (outside the network for matchmaking) we are stuck having to pay for less content because they just cannot produce content quickly. In fact, TTK has to be cut and some content is being done by HighMoon studios for Destiny 2. It also sounds like the story they originally had in mind sounds so much cooler to me. Instead we ended up with cut or recycled characters and much less content than originally planned. Anyway I would read the article if you are interested in seeing a more in depth piece on the cluster this game became.

Here is what I mean by shit tools.

“Let’s say a designer wants to go in and move a resource node two inches,” said one person familiar with the engine. “They go into the editor. First they have to load their map overnight. It takes eight hours to input their map overnight. They get [into the office] in the morning. If their importer didn’t fail, they open the map. It takes about 20 minutes to open. They go in and they move that node two feet. And then they’d do a 15-20 minute compile. Just to do a half-second change.”

I think 343i has dropped the ball with Halo in certain respects, but yeah, I still enjoy it more than Destiny.

Don't really know how to feel about the REQ stuff but at least the maps are free.

 
Came home to a message saying I had to update to NXE. Froze during install, then system wouldn't load past green screen, then tech support had me do OSUDT2 (offline system update) which gave me a new and terrifying error code. After chatting with support and getting repeatedly disconnected I finally did a system restore. Odd thing is when I finished the initial setup it booted into the NXE. Everything seems to be fine now though fortunately
