Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

The dev videos I've unlocked so far are great, and my favorite thing about the game.

I broke down and bought nhl 16 and sleeping dogs before the sale ends.

I also got rare replay from Amazon. I think rare replay is gonna get deleted. I don't know why I bought it other than it being $20 and I had an Amazon gift card. I have zero nostalgia for any of those games.

Overall I think the XBL sale was pretty good. I got a lot more than I thought I would. I don't know if metal gear is my kind of game anymore. It's too early to tell at this point, I've just been crawling around a hospital for twenty minutes. I really want to like it though so I'll give it some time. The only other metal gear game I've finished was that one on game cube. I loved that game!

Rise of the tomb raider is gonna be awesome though. I'm only one chapter in and I'm already hooked.

Oh, and I'm also still waiting for my 75,000 VC for nba 2k16 from the gimme5 promo.
I bought Rare Replay on a whim awhile back, HUGE mistake. Like you, i have no nostalgia for any of the games, I LITERALLY played a couple of them the night i bought it and i haven't touched it since, i just thought that $30 for 30 games was a GREAT idea and it is, IF you played those titles as a kid and want to revisit that. Other than that, boring as shit lol

I love my xbox and have pretty low interest in a ps4 (hell they were only $200 and I still passed), but m$ has fumbled at every opportunity this generation. Pre launch buzz was consumed by always online and game sharing fiascos, kinect only launch really hurt sales, m$ failed to attract devs to ID@xbox, and numerous flagship titles have had ruinous launches and were generally lackluster games. I don't know how m$ is going to continue supporting xbox.

On a positive note I am really enjoying Diablo. I should have picked it up over the summer for $30, but I talked myself out of it because I have it on 360, ps3, and pc. Glad I finally got it tho, I play games on my xbone much more frequently than everything else combined. The adventure mode and rifts really help break up the monotony of static maps and an identical plot to D2.
When was a PS4 $200?

ditto

My biggest complaint with Rare Replay is the amount of space the install takes up on the hard drive even with the disc. I miss the days before mandatory installs were the norm. I also think Rare Replay could have been a 360 physical release. There's no way that a bunch of NES and Spectrum roms and a few Xbox/360 games couldn't have fit on a 360 disc in this day and age.

When I got the holiday xbox one bundle and finally decided to play rare replay, I uninstalled so many games the disc wanted to install cause I already had a majority of the games on either disc or the arcade version.

Both banjo games including nuts and bolts
Perfect dark arcade version
And viva piñata trouble in paradise digital version from gwg

Only game I've played so far is blast corps cause it's the one I remember playing back on the n64 lol

Yeah, surely 5 retail 360 games could fit on one 360 disc.

But yeah, this got stuck on Xbone only so it would have another exclusive to drive sales. The same thing with the Killer Instinct reboot, a totally playable 360 build leaked a few months back.

I got my Play2Earn avatar prop code for one of my accounts from the Gimme5 promo.

My bad. I forgot that it was that many. But they can do crazy things with compression these days.

I grew up with Rare and even I've barely touched it.

Battletoads is still fun, the RC pro-am series still fun.. and the N64 games are where they hit their stride... but I still have the original cartridges!

I was HOPING they'd fix the controls in Jet Force Gemini... boy was I sorely mistaken.

Also why is Conker: Live and Reloaded not on the list?
I would have LOVED to see Live and Reloaded.. maybe less censored (Another game I own the original disc too)

Since we're already doing it, I wanted to say that I was really disappointed with Rare Replay; I even bought it day one because I love classic compilations. I wish I would've done some research about it beforehand, as I haven't touched it since day two. It irks me to no end that a ton of the games aren't on disc and have to be downloaded/installed through the marketplace, and honestly, a lot of them aren't even that good.

You want to know a really good compilation? Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Of course, it's last gen, but I don't think I've played anything that comes close to it yet. Are there other good collections that I'm missing out on?

For me, Rare Replay was all about finding out that all the old Rare games I remembered being great don't hold up today. I was especially dissapointed after finally playing Blast corps again. It was a $20 lesson in the dangers of nostalgia.

.
The Capcom collections for PS2 were pretty great - they had a lot of games I had never even played that were actually still fun. I wish the PS4 could play PS2 discs....

This is why I have resisted buying it. Never got to play Blast Corps back in the day and loved Jet Force Gemini but I know there's no way those or most of the others hold up. Maybe once it's $10 on XBL I'll throw some of my space bucks at it so I can be disappointed too.

I got rare replay day one. I got it on sale and used the cereal code on it so it was only 20.00 for me and got a 15.00 xbl gift card with it from preordering it. Perfect value for me. I got my monies worth and I haven't played any of the good games yet. I missed out on conker, and all the banjo games as a kid so it will be neat to eventually play them......one day. Well any ways it's good backlog filler.

It is pretty amazing though, to be able to see how far games have evolved. Those first arcade titles on the disc are horrible.

Another year down the tubes.  Can't fairly venture an opinion on best or worst game of the year due to my low number of games played, though it was still a decent number of hours sunk.  Pokemon Alpha Sapphire broke Animal Crossing New Leaf's 2 year reign as my most played game.  TrueAchievements lists me at just shy of 92 hours in Gears Ultimate, which would be my most played Xbox game (with the possible exception of the free Windows 8 games like Solitaire collection).  Had a lot of fun with Forza Horizon 2 as well.  Good ploy on MS's part making those Forza Fast and Furious games freebies earlier in the year - I got hooked.

Started Arkham Knight, but got sidetracked early on.  Started Transformers Devastation, but ran into some troubles with the one boss fight.

The backlog grew quite a bit with the end of year sales, fueled by the last of my diabetes codes and the MS Store's buy $100 XBL credit, get a $25 code promo for Bing Rewards members.

Started a little early with a pickup of Star Wars Battlefront Deluxe during its Deals with Gold week.  Sunset Overdrive Deluxe during its daily.  Completed the XBL Rewards exclusive promotion with Rise of the Tomb Raider Deluxe, Halo 5 and Forza 6 Ultimate.  Already have the $53 in credits pending.

Life is Strange Complete Season

Another day, another MS headache. I hope someone can tell me a way to fix this problem, but I'm guessing I'm screwed.

So I got my daughter her own 360 plus a Minecraft disc for xmas. We just moved into a new apt before xmas so I went ahead and put my xbox in her rm for the time being so she could watch videos off it. My wife finally demanded "my" xbox be put in the living rm so she could play Fallout 3 (a game she had no interest in back when I was playing, but suddenly loves now that her "platonic friend" from work is playing Fallout 4, but I digress).

Anyway, I had made sure the savegame my daughter started was under her own profile so I'd be able to move it to her console when it got setup. I setup her console tonight, and had no trouble moving her profile onto a usb stick to put in her new console. But the problem comes in when i try to move her save game onto the same usb stick. Despite the savegame being *under her profile already*, it says "This content cannot be moved between profiles." I even tried moving my profile to the usb stick, and the same error occurred.

Could the problem be that hers is an offline profile? Do I need to convert her profile to an online profile to be able to move her save game, or can this savegame file never be moved for some arcane reason and she will just have to start over?

If the original save is still on the machine, go into the save and save it to the cloud. Then she should be able to access it from the new machine. Or, delete it altogether and blame it on your wife.

my problem with rare replay is it doesn't have their most popular games, donkey kong country trilogy and goldeneye because nintendo owns them, seems incomplete without those games

the only one i have nostalgia for is perfect dark and i already played that on 360, though i do kinda like grabbed by the ghoulies

I have to say that while I haven't played it enough (too many other games), I don't feel quite the same as others on Rare Replay.

Yes, the REALLY old games, including the esteemed Battletoads, don't hold up well.

But the latter part of the collection is still very good and still does hold up rather well IMO. From the Banjo games, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark...through the 360 games like the terribly underrated Kameo and the Viva Piñata games, there's a lot of enjoyable stuff there.

So for every nostalgic game that you quickly find disappointment in, I still feel like the collection has enough playable gems to more than warrant even the full $30 price tag.

And honestly, I even felt good laughing at how terrible some of the early games seem now. To me, that is part of nostalgia - being able to laugh at the things that you grew up with. Just like turning on Fantasy Island and wondering how the f**k did I watch this cheesy crap?

The backlog grew quite a bit with the end of year sales, fueled by the last of my diabetes codes, the MS Store's buy $100 XBL credit, get a $25 code promo for Bing Rewards members and me finally clearing out the pile of change that's been building up on a desk for ~15 years.  A 48 ounce Jif peanut butter jar can hold around $150 of assorted change.  Redeemed 2 full jars for Amazon gift cards so far, and have filled up the jar a 3rd time.  Pile's nearly gone, but I might be able to get a decent way into a 4th fill-up.  Glad Coinstar waives the fee when redeeming coins for a gift card.

Started buying a little early with a pickup of Star Wars Battlefront Deluxe during its Deals with Gold week.  Sunset Overdrive Deluxe during its daily.  Completed the XBL Rewards exclusive promotion with Rise of the Tomb Raider Deluxe, Halo 5 and Forza 6 Ultimate.  Already have the $53 in credits pending, though still waiting for my Gimme5 code.

My other pickups :

Never Alone Arctic Collection

Force Unleashed 1 & 2

Tomb Raiders Anniversary, Legend and Underworld

Life is Strange Complete Season

Alien: Isolation complete

Escape Dead Island

Burnout Paradise

Thomas Was Alone

Shovel Knight

Ducktales Remastered (Windows 10)

The last couple might've missed the XBL Rewards deadline for the extra 5% rebate boost, but no biggie.  Would've liked to have seen more XBLA titles offered up, but I'm not surprised.  Bought plenty anyway.

Glad Comcast suspended their 250 GB threshold.  Between BC titles, GwG and purchases, my account info says I downloaded 620 GB during the month of December.  My router might say otherwise when I get a chance to check, the numbers aren't always in sync.

Hope the sales for the coming year are better than the last.  May the discounts be ever in your favor, and your backlogs always be manageable.

I enjoy rare replay for what it is. It's still a hell of a deal getting 30 games for $30. Even if a third are God awful. You still get 9 360 games, 2 battletoads games, conker, jet fonce gemini, blast corps, and grabbed by the ghoulies.

Rare Replay is amazing if you like the games in it. Obviously it doesn't hold up if you don't think those games are bonkers, no matter the fact they're 30. My only complaint is that all the nifty rewinding, quicksaving, minigames, etc. only apply to the 2D games. I can see why the 360 games wouldn't be feasible, but at least up until N64 it should have been easy-ish to emulate them like that, considering most PC emulators do have such functions. But it's a Godlike collection, if you enjoy 3-4 games out of it it's already worth the low price it's being given away at.

I just noticed on BB's web site that they still have the 15+15+15+5 for $45 pack on spacebucks. I thought this package was discontinued. Tempted to burn some of my credit, maybe if date night is decent.

Classic collections like Rare Replay are geared towards the people that played these games in the past and enjoyed them. Some of the really old spectrum games in this collection are a bit hard to get into for me since I never played these games back in the day. The NES era games on up are still fun to play in my opinion. I already owned all of the 360 games included in the compilation. It was nice that Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts comes loaded with the Log's Challenges DLC which I never purchased on the 360.

Overall I like the collection.  A lot of attention to detail was put into the presentation which I really like.

So I do customer service for A few movie companies. Well ever since Christmas I've been getting 5-10 calls about problems with Xbox One games. We don't even sell games on our site. I own a X1 so I've tried to help them but most people are just telling them to call Xbox and hanging up. It turns out Xbox support is giving everybody our number if its a WB game glitching out and tells them to call us even tho we don't even sell games. Come on Xbox get yo shit together!

That was discontinued but there's a new batch for this year. Saw them at Walmart a few weeks ago with a 2017 expiration.

I loved the Horde mode map where you're stuck in a tunnel against infinite zombies. Even playing with randoms was a good time.
I just played a section of the campaign last night figuring I wouldn't like it and be done with it. Reminds me of Left 4 Dead if everyone was a sniper. Granted in also playing it on easy so I don't have to worry much about aiming or anything.

Zombie Army Trilogy is kind of fun despite my expectations.
I was skeptical until I watched a few streams. The things that sold me on it were the pace compared to COD zombies, the ability to set traps, the awesome kill cam and the music. I've been so caught up in ZAT & Blood Bowl, I haven't even touched Fallout 4 yet.

Geometry Wars or Geometry Wars 3? Lucid's only involvement is with the newest game since they're an independent studio.

That said, I'm not surprised that there would be rights issues since I've mentioned it a few times before. BC on Xbox 360 isn't going to have the huge support some expected because of lapsed rights, of many kinds, for many of those games and because publishers hold the power to put them up on the service. If that changes and they can add tons of games at a time, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not making any sort of drastic decisions about my set-up expecting that the vast majority of titles will be available. That's a fool's plan.
Well whomever was at helm for the first one. Either way it *has* to be licensing issue considering it was removed from the official BC page, they ignore all of my tweets with no responses IE swept under the rug. It's not a huge deal if this ends up being the only title but I'm sure there will be more! It will probably take a somewhat big title or a bunch or little titles to vanish together before the internet goes in a uproar.

BC will never be 100% on the 360 regardless because of Kinect titles. The licensing issue just sweetens the deal, but the plan is for *most* titles to be backwards (I would hope) so that I only turn on my 360 for some classic and/or niche titles. I would never sell my 360 and I hope no one does either at this point unless your really strapped for cash.

Rare Replay is all about Battletoads, everything else is just a bonus.
This is some truth right here. BTW I actually beat Battletoads.

On Rare Replay after rewinding 92393482804238928395 times. I still didn't go to all the levels either.

It is pretty amazing though, to be able to see how far games have evolved. Those first arcade titles on the disc are horrible.
The first few games on the Rare Replay disc aren't arcade titles. They're games that were popular on the Spectrum computer which was in turn popular in Europe. We never got the Spectrum in the States which is why we could care less about those games. Rare is quite revered on the other side of the Atlantic, going back to when it was originally known as Ultimate: Play the Game when it was a computer software developer, and that's why Europe probably went ga-ga over Rare Replay when the U.S. simply said meh. America didn't play a Rare game until Slalom came out, which is why I'm sure most of us played that one or RC Pro Am and skipped the first few games on the disc. And, then, we probably figured that those games were developed by Nintendo when Nintendo only published those games. Just a little trivia.

Wut? I didn't know they suspended the cap. Is it just in certain cities or across the board? Time to start downloading!
