Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

I'm considering buying one of those $50 for $45 Live credit gift card packs and buying the X1 Fallout 4 download before the price goes up. I have a crazy backlog already and I need somebody to talk me out of it.

You've already given yourself a reason not to buy it and need someone to tell you not to buy it despite it being $40 after GCU like last week? fuck that! Buy it! Money is made of paper and you know where paper comes from? Trees! So thus money grows out of trees. Meaning spend that money! We are America! USA! USA! USA! USA!

Isn't Gone Home $20? Going to have to wait for a sale at that price. That said, checked out a video for Hyper Void. Looks to be right up my alley.

I highly recommend Unepic. I got a chance to help test it a couple months ago. There are 2 super grindy achievements that really suck(I didn't get them). I had about 3,000 kills after one playthrough and achievements requires 5,000 and 10,000 on the same save. With no new game + that is 5+ hours of grinding. The rest were really easy due to a bug that probably will be fixed by release (sorry I reported the bug).

Don't let 2 achievements stop you from playing a great game. The game doesn't look good from screenshots, but is surprisingly fun. It is an RPG where you play as a present day guy trapped in a fantasy dungeon with no idea how he got there. Story and dialogue is cheesy, but some parts are good. You've got different types of weapons, pets, armor, spells, etc. like most RPGs.

One of my favorite game bosses is in this game.
The boss can control minds. He can make you pour out your healing potions, use magic against yourself, and have you use teleport scrolls so you teleport away if he is close to death. To kill him you have to put all of your consumables, magic essence (used for spells), and scrolls into your bank before starting the fight. It completely takes the player out of their comfort zone.
The other bosses are kind of meh, but still fun.

I'll probably stream it on release day or earlier if I get permission to. Technically I never agreed to an NDA, but after I asked a couple months ago, he said not to share screenshots/videos yet. There should also be a ton of videos online already because it has been on PC for a long time.

I just started playing UnEpic, but on Wii U since it was on sale. So far i have been enjoying it and would most likely end up recommending it as well as I play more of it

Wut? I didn't know they suspended the cap. Is it just in certain cities or across the board? Time to start downloading!
Comcast stopped enforcing the 250 GB threshold back in 2012. They recently started rolling out a trial plan in some areas where there's a new threshold of 300 GB a month, with overage charges if you go over, or pay $30 extra for no limit.

I live in an area where Comcast has a lot of competition from FiOS and the satellite companies, so they probably won't try those shenanigans where I live for now. In fact, I don't really have much to complain about when it comes to Comcast. Could the prices be lower? Sure, but that applies to just about anything. I have good speed and high uptime, can't remember the last time I had an extended outage for either TV or Internet. I don't stream much, so it's rare that I go much over 100 GB a month. I think I may have topped 200 GB only once or twice in the past.

Some people think this new cap tactic is for code cutters who stream. Like I said, I don't stream much, so I don't know how much streaming would come close to that limit. I have been tempted by Sling's service, but would like to see a few more improvements to the service before diving in (FX channels, support for multiple devices simultaneously even if it would cost a little more). Tiering out ESPN would be nice, too. Would probably shave over $6 off the monthly cost, but given how ESPN works, it most likely wouldn't be available on the service at all if it wasn't part of the primary service plan.

In the old days, I would come to around 300 gigs with a moderate amount of Netflix/Youtube and a decent amount of online play on XBL. I probably hit around 700 gigs of usage this month, having got an Xbone and downloading several games worth of giant patches, plus digital games.

Depending on how many new games you regularly get, and how many big patches games you play have, the 300 cap could be an issue. I bet I'll average 500 gigs a month, hopefully Comcast won't give a shit here.

I already owned all of the 360 games included in the compilation. It was nice that Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts comes loaded with the Log's Challenges DLC which I never purchased on the 360.
Wait, what!? I didn't know that. Hmmm, might have to get in on that with my copy.

Finally got around to checking Wikipedia as I had to remind myself what I played that actually came out in 2015. Not surprising I missed a lot of retail titles and focused more on either indie titles or games from my backlog. That said, a bit of a short list of some of my favorites.

Biggest Surprise: Guitar Hero Live. Haven't played a rhythm game since Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 3 and like everyone else, suffered burnout from the yearly releases. That said, I feel GH Live is a step in the right direction. While the single player mode is cheesy with the live action videos, the real fun is the online mode. A bit of a bummer you have to buy / earn free plays to play anything you want, doing the free channels is still good in itself. Takes you back to the days of when MTV actually played music videos. Plus the guitar. While I'm not a fan of certain characteristics (namely the non-detachable neck and the cheap feeling), having a six button (3/3) fret board rejuvenates the series in a new way. Before, it felt like I'd just buy a new game, play through hard / expert and I was done. Now I get to relearn everything, and while it is frustrating at times, it's a lot more rewarding when I nail a difficult part of a song.

Best Multiplayer: #IDARB. Free game back in January, I'd have probably overlooked it at it's original price point of $14.99. While there is a campaign here, it's easily ignored and only useful for learning the mechanics of the game. The real meat and potatoes is in the multiplayer (and to a degree, the community). Take the NBA Jam announcer, and put the game on a vertical soccer field and you get the consensus for the layout. Fast paced gameplay where you can play 1v1 or up to 4v4, there is scoring all over the place. Score a point for a walk in, or go for the dynamite with a 15 point, multi bounce shot. Another fact I liked was the customization of teams. You could create teams of up to eight custom characters, give them their own custom theme song, along with a flag. Want to pit The Power Rangers vs Mortal Kombat? You can. Want to make a My Little Pony team with Darude's Sandstorm as their theme and troll online players? You can.

Best Story: Life Is Strange. From Dontnod (of Remember Me fame), Life Is Strange takes your high school heroine and gives her the powers of the Butterfly Effect. Twists and turns at every point, where you can trust someone at some point, only to have your whole world turned upside down the next. Many heart wrenching moments, and not too many games can say they made me cry. While the teen drama may be a turn off for some, I found it to be more enjoyable overall than the TellTale games.

Honorable mentions:

Halo 5 - Multiplayer is the best since Reach. Didn't care for all the class loadouts of Halo 4 and Halo 5 keeps it simple, because I'm Stupid. Warzone and Breakout are nice new additions, although I wish Catpure The Flag and Strongholds had their own playlists. Haven't played the campaign yet.

Fallout 4 - Take Fallout 3, set it in Boston, add customizable  towns, and put it on the X1. Good, solid game, but nothing terribly special. That said, is more Fallout 3 really such a bad thing?

Notable 2015 Games I have not played yet:

Batman Arkham Knight

Dying Light

Just Cause 3

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Ori And The Blind Forest

Mad Max

Rise Of The Tomb Raider

Star Wars Battlefront (although my time with the beta leads me to believe this to be a shallow experience)

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Bloomy, first of all I'm not singling you out. Whether most of you know it or not, Comcast's data cap "trial" has been ongoing since 2012 in select markets. I live in one of those original select markets in southern Mississippi. The "unlimited" option was not an option (that I know of) until very recently. Previously, our only option was to pay $10 per 50GB of overage. In Mississippi we have very few legitimate high-speed data options. In my neighborhood, we have Comcast, AT&T DSL, or satellite. Two of those three options simply don't work for a family with two teenagers plus my wife.

For a family, it's extremely easy to hit the cap with 5 laptops, 5 cell phones, 5 tablets, plus game systems (you get the idea). If Netflix, Sony, Microsoft and others don't step in to make this a real issue, all of their services will inevitably suffer when every major internet provider follows suit with arbitrary data caps.

So for new additions to Comcast's ongoing 3-year "trial" (how long can a d*mned trial be??), file a complaint with the FCC. That's what I did when Comcast attempted to slap me with the first $10 overage. They didn't disclose the cap on their website, and it wasn't in any of the paperwork either. They take FCC complaints very seriously and I haven't had a data cap since their "senior-level tech" called to discuss the complaint.

Can anyone tell me, is FiFA 16 worth the upgrade from 15?  I have read that the game plays a lot better then 15 but Id like some opinions from anyone here whom has actually played it.  Thanks

Glad to see the Jets out, would rather play the Steelers and their awful D. Now hoping for Denver to puke on their shoes since the Pats crapped their pants today

I filed a complaint and the response was basically fuck you, and it was closed.

Thankfully, AT&T fiber is currently going in my neighborhood. Hopefully it rolls out this year.

Tried playing killer instinct, man am I terrible at fighters. I remember on SNES being able to pick up a fighter and stand a chance in career mode.

Dolphins actually won? I didn't even bother watching football today with my fantasy teams being out and figuring the Dolphins were going to get destroyed. The fact they played spoiler to the Pats number one seed makes me happy. :)

Seriously, fuck the Pats.

They're so complicated now. Back in the day you could learn every Fighters combos since the movesets were somewhat limited. Now there's 10 buttons and 65 combos for 75 different characters per game.

Well, like I said, I'm luckily in an area where Comcast has enough legitimate competition that so far has kept that kind of stuff out of my area. When I log in to my account to view my stats, it's said for a few years that "Note: Enforcement of the 250GB data consumption threshold is currently suspended." I just did a little Googling to find when that enforcement date ended, which turned up the articles about new enforcement policies. Not surprised that in areas where they have an effective monopoly that they've continued it all along.

How about new year, new thread tomorrow???????
Don't worry. "Soon." ;)

Money is made of paper and you know where paper comes from? Trees! So thus money grows out of trees. Meaning spend that money! We are America! USA! USA! USA! USA!
US currency paper is composed of 25% linen and 75% cotton.

Not trying to be a smart ass, I learned this last night watching "Inside Man" movie starring Denzel Washington. Otherwise, I'd prob still think it was made of paper.

Can any of you play online with this month's GwG: Dirt Showdown?  Sorry if it has been already commented (only checked last three pages to be sure) but the VIP pass that enables multiplayer on Dirt costs 10$/€ and it's supposed to be part of the main game! I've just noted this at xbox forums, waiting for an answer.

Nah, you have to scroll back through the last five pages looking for something relevant.

Apparently online works on x1 but not 360.

There is some combo assist that was recently patched into the game. I think it's on by default so you can just mash out combos.

I played a set with some friends earlier and I did poorly. The animation for a lot of attacks just don't make sense for someone used to CPS1 & 2 Capcom fighters and damage scaling makes going for 3-4 hit manual combos undesirable because they do poor damage.

I'm going to make an effort to learn the game just so I can steamroll them for a few days and probably never touch this game again.

If we all pick up the chant, he'll be forced to make a new op when we hit the post limit!

New year, new thread!
Is there a post limit now? The Steam thread is over 42k posts, and I'm pretty sure one of the prior amiibo threads topped 30k. The site seems to have trouble with follower notifications when the post count hits around 19k, though. I stopped getting notifications of new posts in the topic around then in this topic and the one immediately prior, even though I tried the trick of unfollowing and following again. Maybe that doesn't work for the topic creator. This coming year, I'll probably reset the topic after the July Ultimate Game Sale, provided MS continues that tradition, so the post counts don't get too crazy.

While I would rather have seen the Chiefs win the division it's a lot better for the Chiefs that Denver won.  You would much rather play Houston in the first round than Pittsburgh.  Plus it knocks NE out of the bye and they get Pittsburgh who could very well beat them.

Off topic time? Denver and Manning are going to the playoffs as a #1 seed!  :D/

Also, does anyone know how to wake up my avatar.

To whoever it was that was looking for the side charger for the X1. It is currently on sale for $14.99

May have to pick one of these up. I bought the Nyko Charger Base last May as it had good reviews and I loved my first model "white" Nyko one for the 360. The One model, though, is just crappy. After two or three months, the "gold" plating on one of the three spots on the battery back has worn down really badly and cleaning doesn't help.

Oh and picked up Shovel Knight for $10.04 since I had thrown $10 via amazon on my account while half awake the one day as I thought they had NBA 2K16 for $16, before realizing it was EA's.

Unlike some Capcom fighters, you actually want long combos. You'll see a meter that starts adding up mid combo. It has 4 visible levels and a 5th if you end your combo with a shadow ender. The higher that meter is when you do your ender, the more damage the ender does. Risk/reward is a huge part of this game. You could go for longer combos for more damage, but risk them combo breaking and you lose a lot of damage. Dojo mode is great for new players. I highly recommend it even if people are familiar with fighting games already.

A vote for keep this thread because I don't give a shit and it's no big deal whether we get one or not. "Oh no, our discussion over Rare Replay will be lost forever followed by our complaints of Marvel Ultimate Alliance including all the DLC! Thank God we got this new thread to complain about how we got another 2K sale!

Redeemed 2-day gold to buy Alien Isolation but it's showing up as $13.20. Is this the silver price? Does the 2 day pass no longer work for the X1?

2 days, 14 day trials whatever it is, it's not a gold membership. minimum is a 1 month membership. gold trials are not gold memberships ad is considered a trial membership except you can play online with other players but no gold benefits besides that.
