I'm on the game right now, I have terminal and ward, i have boneyard, lost city, checkout and museum. I have car 13, UIR and gold character and I have gold weapon skins. I've got everything needed for achievements and all I've done is bought the two packs here. I'm not sure why people are saying you cannot get the without vip. If you go to Xbox achievements and read the guide it shows both packs with 250 score each. Gears has 1500 total, which leaves no score for Vip achievements.

I have access to museum and have the gold and UIR skins which are needed for DLC and I just bought both packs.




Aside from the misunderstanding that he thought people meant separate VIP achievements everything seem to have worked fine for him so far? (But maybe that was in private mode until now hum)

Basically it works like this:

Technically he is right. He does have access to all the DLCs, and he can play them without issue in private. But the issue is matchmaking.

There are two separate playlists; Standard and VIP. Standard was basically designed more for people who buy the basic game, and was later updated to allow for some DLC maps, specifically the free maps (though one of them now costs money). Eventually they did allow the Call to Arms DLC to somewhat function on the standard playlist, but it doesn't allow the Lost Relics maps to show at all. This is in part because by the time Lost Relics released Epic had basically abandoned the game, so no further updates were going to be done.

So this is why that guy is saying the DLCs work. Yes, he can play them, but the Museum map, the one specifically needed for the Golden Artifacts will never show up for him. He'll absolutely need the VIP Pass in order to access the VIP Playlist, and to get Execution on that setup. VIP Playlist knows that you have VIP Pass, and thus you have the DLC maps needed, so it's more open, while still being exclusive. By that I mean it assumes you have all the maps since you have to have the 'season pass' to play on that, so playlists accommodate all maps.

For further explanation and actual examples see the link I posted before and definitely look at this thread. That thread will detail exactly why you need the VIP Pass, and why it sucks since you'll have to rebuy your content at a higher price for the same stuff, just for the unlock key of VIP. I lack an account for Major Nelson's posts, but if you want to link that person to those references they'll explain to them what they're going to deal with. Unfortunately, they might be at a loss, though I hope Microsoft can compensate people for this mistake. I posted it years ago on Epic's old forums, and they never addressed it. Black Tusk handles things now but they never fixed it.

They could potentially update the Standard DLC Playlist to allow Lost Relics (and they probably should), but it was intended to be used just for the free map(s). They can't add a Paid and Free DLC playlist because of UI restrictions. They also legally cannot merge Standard and VIP.

If you have no interest in playing it online with others, you can definitely buy these packs. And if you don't care about achievements the same is also true. But if you play online or want to collect the achievements you'll need VIP, barring a sudden and greatly overdue update.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your question, but they made the Animus a consumer device in ACIV that anybody can use for that stuff.
Abstergo got a hold of Desmond's DNA, so those using it can experience that stuff freely. Basically, they can do whatever the fuck they want now with the story/justification.

Thanks for the lengthy explanation again...even though I understood that the first time (and even looked up said thread). I was just hoping that maybe, just maybe they have fixed the issue with the matchmaking on this (also my guess was that he probably did that in private mode until now)

And to answer some of it I actually DO want the achievements and I love playing Gears online with others. so VIP Pass still seems to be the only way to go for me. =)

Just wanted to post the update that my 2TB WD Elements for Mac hard drive for $59 came today, and it works flawlessly. You can either reformat it directly by plugging it into your 360, or by using "diskmgmt.msc" on your PC and rewriting the Mac formatting. Mac is all muh proprietary herp derp and these sooper speshul drives cost much more than the NTFS versions. Plus, they have "for Mac" written on them, which I find amusing since I'm using it on my Microsoft-branded system.

It's a WD refurb, but I hooked it up to my PC and did a full surface scan without error. Might buy another one just to have a spare. Anyone who didn't buy it from my posts in the last thread really missed out. ;)

The Golden Artifacts achievement is the only one you won't be able to do with him. I think the event ribbon one is the only other one that needs to be done in public, the rest can be done in private matches if you have enough people.

As for the Sybarite Achievement..I'm already done with it...actually played everyday when they did the daily ribbon thing =)

hopefully I will get the right prize boxes for the golden artifacts thing (unless they are unlocked with the vip pass..not sure what skins are inside)

Why are you inferring that I think Halo is the only Xbone game worth playing? Read again - I never said that. I said it's one of very few reason to buy XBL because of their putrid offerings first and foremost.

Ori and the Blind Forest, Forza Horizon 2, and Sunset are incredible... they are not, however, reasons to pay the $60 annual fee.

This week is no exception. In fact, this week's the epitome of why I think this

Does anyone have a link to that seller that was selling Xbox game codes for cheap? I remember clicking on it in this thread, and I was interested in Gears of War 2 for $5.50 I believe was the price, but I didn't save the website. There were other games for cheap too like Forza Horizon for $5 and Lococycle for about $3, if anyone could post the link again I'd appreciate it :)

Whether you hate them or not, Gamestop has Gears 2 for the price of a cheeseburger ($1).

You're right...I pay less most of the time. But the msrp is $60 so I spoke generally.

Still, that couldn't be further away from the point. I think you just like to be combative even if it means grasping at straws. Desperate to defend MS, I guess.

I think this game only appeals to me because there are only 3 games In the marketplace I want. If this wasn't at sale price, I would not debate on getting this. It's a puzzle platformer, so there's no "action" or combat. All the reviews seem mixed, and there aren't a lot of reviews to begin with for the PC version. I watched footage on youtube, and wasn't impressed by the game play which is mainly exploring, and was not impressed at all by the environments or graphics. Its a roughly 10 hour game. I don't know how a person can spend 10 hours doing nothing. I wouldn't expect much of anything, after all this was a kickstarter campaign game.
