Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

To those who got Happy Wars while it was free: it being released was a mistake. There is an issue at the moment where importing your 360 save may make it impossible to play on the 360. If you've abandoned the 360, though, there shouldn't be a problem.

Yep.....explained a few posts above yours.

Looks like they stopped achievements from popping too :(

Edit: Nvm the train is starting now
I got a like 7 achievements in the main menu and after I finished a match like 7 more popped up and some of the ones that popped after the match I never actually did like the one for using every skill with a warrior, mage, and cleric in one match.

That's a nice addition, though it would be better if you could also get an internal drive of that size. I'm pretty happy with my 500GB internal drives on 360 though, don't really feel like I need more. I will definitely want at least 2TB on current gen consoles.

For reference: http://majornelson.com/2015/04/09/xbox-360-system-update-for-preview-program-members-now-supporting-2tb-hard-drives/
Wow, for once Microsoft doesn't disappoint. I would've been happy with 128GB support, this is obviously much much better. I'm glad I've resisted picking up a 500GB drive to replace my completely full 250GB one.

Hmmmmmm, now how does one enroll in the preview program at this point?

Unfortunately I think they have to choose you. I had a few people send an invite for the Xbox One preview program over the last year and I still haven't been chosen to participate in any. Wish there was an easier way to sign up.

It will be nice to not have 8 different hidden Xbox 360 folders on my external drive and I won't miss having to juggle and keep track of each one.

We will be able to use external Hardrives (and USB Sticks) up to 2TB with the new update, if you are in the preview program you are able to use it right now, if not the next official update will make it happen for all.
HOLY F**KING S***!! FINALLY!!!!!! You just made my decade right there. Storage on my Xbox 360 has been an absolute nightmare the last 5 years running. I have more flash sticks than Best Buy. this is honestly the best news I have heard in a LONG time. I have watched one amazing sale after another go by, in regards to on demand games, as once you factor in the price of the flash stick....well, its just nowhere near as good of a deal. So On Demand games just weren't an option for me. Not to mention the pain of having to use flash sticks. Now I can load all of my games on a single drive and actually buy on demand games during their sales.

Honestly, Phil Spencer should run for president. the job that guy has done since taking the position as head of Xbox Division has been absolutely spectacular. Actually, even the word spectacular doesn't do justice to the job he has done.

I'm just in shock right now. Can't believe its finally happened.

So pumped about 2tb for Xbox 360 (even though it means I have yet another HDD to buy soon) also beyond pumped about NHL 15 being added to EA Access, that just sold me on a subscription. Oh and Golf Club looks good, stupid good news making me spend so much money.

I've just been deleting games when I'm done playing them to make room for another one to download.  Granted, there is nothing wrong with more space but I can't see myself going back to replay any of my 360 games once I've beaten them.  Then again, I guess it wouldn't hurt to them in a collection on a drive for when Xbox Live on 360 eventually disappears.

Also I take it this lego dimensions is going to be like Disney Infinity or Sky Landers.  Or Amiibos.  Love lego but I can't do it.

Why wouldn't you just buy it and d/l later when you have space?

So I guess now that Microsoft has graciously added external hard drive capability, they can tell everyone to download their purchases to storage and discontinue online services for Xbox360.

I'm somewhat joking, but this could be the beginning of the end...

it could be the beginning of a fire sale or just a plan to increase sales. I'm pretty sure there are people out there who are more conscious about what they buy because of limited HD space.

I did but at least I stopped buying things just because they are cheap...I have over 500 digital games (and probably half the number of the dlc) in my backlog so that's good anyway but now I'm able to store them all lol...I had spreadsheets to organize my stuff...I also have a second console where I redownloaded the games (and dlc) that I had already beaten + 2 x32 GB usb sticks still I had run out of space for long time now...soo now that I will be able to store everything I might buy some more games again...(even though I have to be really interested, not going for just cheap stuff anymore).

As for shutting down online services on 360..at least I will have all my stuff together now...even when the time comes, when we are no longer able to play MP or redownload stuff...so that's a plus in my book.

Like you I also have quite a digital backlog on a full 500gb HD complete with spreadsheets and notecards telling me what's on each of the eight 32gb flashdrives I have. I'm looking forward to this but it's really irritating that it took this long and I had to buy so many flashdrives to continue my digital game hoarding.

So once everyone gets the update and I have an external HD, what's the best way to re-download everything, directly from the Xbox or doing it on Xbox website? I had to do this a few years ago when my Xbox 360 died and I had to get a new one. At that time I only had a handful of digital games & DLC but it was still a pain in the ass due to the download limit restrictions imposed by the Microsoft overlords. I think it was like 30 queued downloads at a time was the limit. Anybody have any suggestions to make this a less painful process?

Before you go to bed or school or work turn on your Xbox 360 and then go to your computer. It's easier to go through your download history from the website and pick what things you would like to download. After you hit the maximum download list (if there is one), shut down your computer and your Xbox 360 (if you have it set to continue downloading while powered down). Hopefully in the hours you are away it completes the files you wanted downloaded, allowing you to restart the process for the remaining files you're after.

You could also play offline games like single player titles while you setup your downloads.

Xbox Live service for the original Xbox was discontinued in 2010, 5 years after it was replaced by a successor console. So going by that, the 360 service should continue until 2018-- and I think it's likely to be longer given that the Xbox 360 was much more popular and successful than the Xbox.

Wasn't the whole reason that the Xbox's Live was shut down because it interfered with the advancements they wanted to do to the then current Xbox Live? There was some reason they described about shutting it down, but it seems like the Xbox 360 is more capable in what they can do with it, like with apps and other data options. So I would expect that so long as there are still people buying and playing games, using apps, and actively subscribing to Xbox Live via the 360, there financially is no reason to eliminate it.

When Microsoft ceases production of 360 models is when I would begin to wonder how much time is left in the Xbox 360 as an online gaming console.

Yeah, that's what they said at the time, though I think the only specific example that was ever given was the 100 friend limit. Presumably the rest was prepping for stuff they wanted to do with the Xbox One.

Also, due to the way Gold works currently, there's extra incentive to keep 360s around.

You only need 1 Gold account per Xbone to give everyone MP access, but each account needs Gold for the same thing to be accomplished on 360. Shutting down 360 would hurt the overall sub count significantly, guaranteed.

And obviously losing the whole GWG and Gold-only sales for 360 would hurt as well.

I suspect it was network infrastructure related, and that Microsoft was more forward thinking when planning things for the 360. My bet is XBL on the 360 will continue indefinitely because it should be handled by Microsoft's Azure cloud.

It's most likely to increase for digital games, which hopefully means we'll be getting more quality deals.

As for Live shutting down, I can't see it happening for another 4-5 years considering they have sold over 80 million 360s and aren't stupid enough to shut off multiplayer for the gamers who haven't upgraded to a new gen.

As for shutting down 360 online services...here is something else..if the lifecycle is really that big how we hope...why do they shutdown games like ascend: hand of khul, world series of poker, crashcourse 2 and so on? I know they were all free to play, but why decide to take them all down right now? Lifecycle could have been much longer for them, but I feel they kinda abandoned they idea to keep things like this alive on the last gen. World of Tanks is still running but I fear it's only a mater of time until they stop those F2P MP games alltogether on the 360...

I certainly applaud the optimism of so many here that expect Microsoft to continue Xbox360 service - especially those who think Microsoft will do it simply because people are playing certain games or think that MS will have some sort of digital game price reduction..  Don't forget that the longer Xbox360 is a viable and desirable platform, the less likely those customers will purchase an Xbox One and Xbox One games, etc.  I'm sure the service will continue for awhile, but it will mostly be continuing to avoid bad publicity rather than because Microsoft wants to make sure you get your money's worth or because Microsoft wants to turn it into some low cost gaming system.

They don't need to shut down multi-player to push people to nextgen.  All they have to do is just make the new games only on (or significantly better on) the nextgen console.  Taking away what gamers already have often results in them jumping ships to the other side.  Now if you entice them with the new and tasty ... they jump to yours and still love you.  Then when enough people go, you can shut it down from lack of use and everyone understands.

Larger USB support being added for the 360 so we can store all our content before the plug is pulled is one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at it is Microsoft plans on selling us Xbox 360 digital content for a long time, so they needed to increase our storage capacity.

As long as Live support on the 360 makes Microsoft money they're going to keep it going. Comparing it to the original Xbox is silly because the original Xbox had little chance to keep making money. Only about 30 million consoles were sold, and there were about 30 digital games. The Xbox 360 sold around 80 million consoles, there might be close to a thousand digital games, and now there is VOD content available for rental and purchase. There is so much more content that can be sold to so many more people.

It makes some sense cut off the previous product to make the new one more desirable, but not while the old one is still doing good business. When Microsoft pulled Live support for the original Xbox the Xbox 360 had already surpassed the original Xbox in sales. The original Xbox was a lot more expendable than the Xbox 360.

Also, if Microsoft wants to consider the pulled drm in the next Xbox I think they'll keep Live support for the 360 going well into the next console generation. The drm would go over even worse if there were two generations of Xbox consoles that lost Live support. To at least have the option available to them I think they'll keep Live going for the 360.

I suspect it was network infrastructure related, and that Microsoft was more forward thinking when planning things for the 360. My bet is XBL on the 360 will continue indefinitely because it should be handled by Microsoft's Azure cloud.
That is my thought as well. It is not a fair comparison to make against the Xbox's lifespan because the amount of users is much larger, plus the digital content is infinitely more vast. The original xbox had no retail digital downloads, only online service and maybe one or two arcade games.

Just got an update now upon booting up the 360.  Probably the external HDD support, but not sure yet.

EDIT: apparently went live yesterday.  Now shows your MS account balance at the top right of the screen.  And going to the "known issues" part of the preview tab crashes the app.

Microsoft will support the 360 until few enough ppl care if they drop the support that they won't get a lot of flack for it. So I think we're safe.
