Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

If any of you have not read this article about what happened with the launch of Destiny I highly recommend it. I actually like Destiny and put many hours in but after reading the article I have mixed feelings about supporting the game going forward. Basically because Bungie created shit tools for creating the game (outside the network for matchmaking) we are stuck having to pay for less content because they just cannot produce content quickly. In fact, TTK has to be cut and some content is being done by HighMoon studios for Destiny 2. It also sounds like the story they originally had in mind sounds so much cooler to me. Instead we ended up with cut or recycled characters and much less content than originally planned. Anyway I would read the article if you are interested in seeing a more in depth piece on the cluster this game became.

Here is what I mean by shit tools.

“Let’s say a designer wants to go in and move a resource node two inches,” said one person familiar with the engine. “They go into the editor. First they have to load their map overnight. It takes eight hours to input their map overnight. They get [into the office] in the morning. If their importer didn’t fail, they open the map. It takes about 20 minutes to open. They go in and they move that node two feet. And then they’d do a 15-20 minute compile. Just to do a half-second change.”
I've heard some from that story but don't really care because when it comes to gameplay, I haven't been on the edge of my seat, flailing around with intensity after a boss fight in a long time and I've gamed since gaming began. I've spent a ton of time on multiplayer shooters leveling to just reset (COD) or just to play and find the loot and bounty system genius and I'm picky about shooters (see criticism about halo and gears) but to each their own but unless you've tried it, I wouldn't rule it out. I did that when destiny came out and now sing its praises.

I have 86 hours on the X1 and about the same on the 360 but I can still be critical of the development of the game.

I'm honestly surprised that Halo 5 seems to be universally anticipated after all of the complaints I've heard from Halo fans on 343's work with the series since taking over after claims of ruining things with Halo 4 and then the horrible condition of the Master Chief Collection.

I've never gotten into the series. The bullet sponge nature of the combat with the shields always kept it from clicking with me and the multiplayer is where it falls apart for me since I absolutely stink at it.

Things improved greatly with Destiny, though it had some major flaws at launch and inherent with the structure of the game. They rebounded with The Taken King to better find a route for the game to go in the future that has made it much more enjoyable and the multiplayer is a lot of fun. It feels like the multiplayer works so well because it's not really about KDR and winning so much as getting loot, completing bounties, and having fun, which is rare for multiplayer games.

I think 343i has dropped the ball with Halo in certain respects, but yeah, I still enjoy it more than Destiny.

Don't really know how to feel about the REQ stuff but at least the maps are free.
At least you aren't forced to pay for REQ points. If you want the Destiny dances, you literally have to pay outside of the $4 they give you. They have no way for you to earn the currency.

That kind of microtransaction is unacceptable in my books, especially when I'm paying $60 + all the DLC.

giphy.gif

Having said that, if they had this dance, I will be ready to spend my money.

I've always loved Halo for that. Having shields has always made it more skill based than other games. It's not about who see's who first...you could get your shields taken down from behind and then spin around and 3 shot pistol kill or 4 shot BR kill someone if you're skilled enough. Or maybe throw a grenade that launches them briefly into the air with no shields and then one headshot kills them.

Although i've always been really good at console FPS so it's easy for me to like Halo, and I understand how casual players have a hard time getting into it compared to something like COD.

343 dropped the ball with their poor oversight with Halo:MCC it was a complete disaster. But after a ton of patches I can say that the game finally works 99% of the time and It's a lot of fun. I would think more people would be offended if more people bought the game, because when you look at the top 10 played games on XBox Live hourly Halo:MCC is either not there or just at the #8 or #9 spot. It's a shame no one plays it now because the collection is quite good after the fact but I can understand why after all the negative press it got when it was first out, and it was many, many months before things were considered stable. I'm not sure how much Microsoft lost in terms of Halo 5 sales, the ODST  HD version, and all the patches but I'm sure it wasn't much all things considered. People just tend to forget shit quite fast.

With that said, I have full faith in 343 with Halo 5. Why? Because this is a one game project and the beta was proof that the game was running well and played fantastic. They had a lot more time to spend on this game and everything I've seen from previews shows a great campaign running at 1080/60fps, along with 4 player co-op. The multiplayer was a shit load of fun and felt like Halo 5 was a evolution of the series rather a COD copycat. Worst case scenario I can see is the servers getting overloaded on launch day like every online FPS on release date in history for the most part.

 Calling me a casual gamer. Thanks.

It used to be 32GB but it may be bigger now. You can use HDDs up to 2TB but I don't know if that extends to flash drives.

I can't find much better of an answer unfortunately since even the Xbox website seems to be out of date on the topic.
Yea thats the problem i had. Everything i found was pretty out of date. CAN you use an external USB drive on the 360? Im not even sure if thats true. That would be nice if its the case. At the very least though it would be nice to be able to use a bigger USB drive. Anyone know at all?

Instant indie bundle 2 is up for 24.49.

Includes pumped bmx+, nova-111, and the swindle. Does this mean these 3 games will all be on sale for around $3 like the first bundle?

Them doing that w the first bundle def makes me hold off on bundle 2.
played thomas was alone for an hour and came back to see it never saved, the sadness of determining weather I want to redo all those levels or not
Had that happen, too. Lost, I don't know, 5 or 6 levels of progress. I was pissed, but eventually dried my man tears and went back and finished the game. Lots of fun ... glad I did.

I have about half the money needed for Halo 5 (hype train of trailers and #huntthetruth got me), but I have this big dog called Fallout 4 preordered.

Basically don't know if I can finish enough Halo 5 before Fallout 4 launches to justify jumping now. M

I think the reason MCC was so messed up wasn't entirely 343's fault. They were really pushed by Microsoft to get the game out in time for halo 2's ten year anniversary. But unfortunately it's becoming a common tale for a lot of developers.

They oversaw the entire project while other developers pitched in and they were responsible for certain parts of the project. If your crew fails and your the manager then your responsible just as much as the crew.

But yes, it was definitely rushed for the Halo 2 anniversary and needed way more time in the oven. The single player was fine for the most part but most people don't play Halo for the SP.

I agree that it's Microsoft's fault for letting it out before it was ready, but people tend to let publishers get off blame free when games go bad like this as the public-facing devs take 100% of the blame, at least initially when people want to quickly find somebody to be guilty. Batman: Arkham Knight, Battlefield 4, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Driveclub, etc. were all thrown at the feet of the developers right away despite the publisher having the ultimate approval to say that the bugs aren't bad enough to warrant a delay.

While 343 did have the lead, and deservedly gets the blame, this game was outsourced to many different developers. Two of whom had never worked on a Halo title before.

For those still looking for the Xbox one elite controller, you can still order from target and use the promo code "Cartwheel" for extra 10% off. Code is good only for today.

So OT, but everyone is Halo-happy anyways:

I have Halo Wars vanilla.  There are two DLC packs on xbox.com for $10 each.  I understand that the PH version has those two DLC included.  Does it have anything else as a bonus?  Is it on disc or a pack in code?  Gamedealdaily has the two $10 DLCs for $3 each and another code for a tank as well.

It's been 3 years since we got a new one. For $60 you get a full single player campaign, tons of multiplayer modes, a full multiplayer map creation tool, and all future dlc maps. In terms of value I would put it up there with Fallout.

I get it though that some people are burned out of shooters or just don't like Halo, but I think it's pretty obvious why ppl are excited. Xbox was built on Halo.

When I bought my Xbox one I was getting it as an investment in a future halo, kind of like when I buy a Nintendo system it is for Zelda :)
I agree with your assessment.

Halo regularly makes fun, replayable, and compelling campaigns with some of the best Co-op support in the business.

The PH version comes with both DLCs (Strategic Options Pack and Historic Battle Map Pack). They're on a code, not on disc. I would just get the DLCs from Gamedealdaily.

And I feel like that's like being critical of the way your sausage is made. If it tastes good, who gives two shits how it could've been done or how one ball or another was dropped.
If you play a ton of any game, you should be able to note many of its issues both big and small. They may not ultimately hamper your enjoyment, but criticism isn't limited to anger or negativity. It's just a reflective look at what the game does well and not so well.

Did they eventually get rid of the ewoks in Halo?  I'm talking about those grunts in Halo 1 and 2 that made those cutesy noises and didn't seem like much of a threat.

They are in all 5 games, though they are more drafted or conscripted into their ranks than anything.

The Grunts are treated as the bottom rung of the Covenant society.

Want...to...buy the Xbox Elite Controller!

Someone stop me :/

$138 after tax is so hard to pass up even tho it's still expensive
Honestly, seems easy for me to pass up... that's way too expensive.

I really don't see any advantage in it.

Though if you want it and can afford it.. get it?

There's no such thing as control or reason or logic on this site. Just shut up and buy it. Hell, buy two!

343 dropped the ball for me when they messed up very specific and personal things that probably less than .117% of other players care about.

Best part of H3 for me was the ability to look at new featured custom content weekly. It kept the game fresh for years. That wasn't available in H4 or MCC (may have been added post launch, but I haven't checked). I hope it comes back for H5.

Few weeks ago my friend says action sack is in MCC. I started up the game for the first time in months. We played about 10 matches and almost everything sucked. The only fun game mode was one where weapons randomly switched and only kills with those weapons counted. Even then all the maps were default. No Forge created content.

Finally they removed walkie-talkie control scheme. I even had (may still have) the screenshot in my file share saying something like I love walkie-talkie. I highly doubt they'll bring this one back and at this point I don't even remember the control scheme at all. Was more of a problem with H4.

There are 3 things they're doing with H5 that might bring me back. Story sounds much more interesting and they set it up well with that mini-series. Warzone sounds interesting (kind of like Titanfall), but I haven't seen any of it yet. At 11pm CST Windows Central is streaming warzone so I'll be able to check it out. From what I've heard, Forge might be an actual map maker (like FarCry series) instead of the usual map editor (old Forge). By focusing on custom maps, I'm hoping they feature content weekly and have ways for us to easily download it like H3.

Sounds about right.

I was actually thinking they would have a superhero sale. I would have picked Injustice.
