Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.

Great month for GWG. Not only are these games I don't own, I've never even heard of them. Looking forward to trying these out.

Decided to pick up Titanfall.  Good sales on stuff I already own like Plants vs. Zombies, Dead Space, and the Dead Island games.

REmake is great and all, but I bet it will go down to $9.99 next year.

I'm even surprised that evidently it must not come with the Games on Demand for Dirt 3. As others have stated, it usually is just a used game deterrent. In fact, it says in the game to put in the code that came with the game (or buy it likely targeting those who bought it used).

Whatever. Not a huge deal but kind of insulting as a GwG.
I know EA went back and made all their online passes free, and the industry shifted away from it with new releases. I guess I thought everyone had done that. I bet enough people complain that they give it out, too. Especially with backwards compatibility and NXOE going live.

Hopefully the Dirt thing is a mistake since Codies doesn't have the reputation of being that sort of publisher and has treated Dirt 3 extremely well on PC.

Got to say that while KC was towards the bottom of my list of teams I was rooting for this year and it being a 4-1 series that this was a very close and entertaining WS.  That they won all but one game in that Royals way where they jumped on an opening and made a come back makes it all the more appropriate.

I think I'm going to be hearing fireworks all night. That was a great game.

I was at a regular season Royals game at the K this year, so I feel partially responsible for their World Series win. And I loathe the Mets.

Edit for relevance: Maybe someday Xbox will get a quality MLB game. Maybe someday...

I haven't yet popped the disc in. But it looks like Ryuukishi answered your question. :)

I haven't received the message yet for the Locke Mustang, either. I checked yesterday and still nothing. Forza Hub app says we all should've received it. Oh well, I'm sure it will pop up eventually.
I got the Rivals messages first and attempting to play them garnered error messages. The car messages only came an hour or so later.

Just checked Major Nelson's blog and there are people bitching about the fact that you have to pay $10 for the online pass for Dirt 3 so it is confirmed. And it is bullshit.

If MS chose the game to be on GwG they should have made the pass free too just as it would have been if bought at retail. Have to wonder if Codemasters agreed to it knowing they could make some extra money from the pass in addition to whatever MS gave them.
The online pass was to discourage used game sales so this is really odd and that doesn't fit Codies profile. I'm a big fan, but I'm glad people are raising a stink about this as it's jacked up.

Racing games online are usually so bad. A mixture of lag and bumper cars ruins it for me. Unless you're playing with friends in a party, that's fun.
That's one of the great things about rally racing. One car on the track at a time means no bumper cars. Sometimes a ghost can be distracting or the player who launched ahead of you is so bad you catch up to them and you have to get around them, but most of the time it's just about the driver and the road. The rallycross and trophy truck racing can have some bumper car action, but have you ever watched that stuff in real life? Lots of contact.

it should be mandatory that any game named as a free GWG has deeply discounted DLC to go along with it. $10 to play online is laughable.
While I would love that, the whole idea is give the game away for free so players find a new game they enjoy and then plunk down cash for more in the form of DLC. $10 to play online is an injustice though in this case.

It's doubtful we'll get the pass if it's not already included in the download. When The Raven was on GwG, we only got the first episode. It's a three-part game.
That was DLC, though, this is an online pass that should be included with any new purchase, physical or digital.

i bought the on-demand version of dirt 3 earlier this year when it was on sale. i am able to race online without entering a pass code. but...

i owned the gold disc before and may have activated a code then, even though I've never played online until tonight. I usually don't use codes until i need them. surely there is someone else here who bought it during the sale (i think it was back in January or February).

i know this doesn't help people who got it through GWG, but i'm just as curious if the pass restriction is the same between the on-demand version and the GWG version.

i'm not so sure there's going to be that many people that are upset about it. the single player mode offers plenty to enjoy and this is a free game we're talking about.
I'm very curious about this, too, surely someone bought it when it was on sale previously. You could always check your download history and see if you redeemed it. Free or not, people should be upset that they have to pay more to play online.

Haven't played a non mario kart racing game in a long, is dirt fine with the controller or built for a wheel?
It's fine with a controller. In fact, if I remember correctly hardcore racers swore that they did better with controllers than with a wheel in this one.

I know EA went back and made all their online passes free, and the industry shifted away from it with new releases. I guess I thought everyone had done that. I bet enough people complain that they give it out, too. Especially with backwards compatibility and NXOE going live.
Which companies did online passes? Codies did this for a few games. THQ? Seems like there is another company that didn't eventually make them free either.

Hopefully the Dirt thing is a mistake since Codies doesn't have the reputation of being that sort of publisher and has treated Dirt 3 extremely well on PC.

I can't imagine MS wants this kind of bad PR for the widespread launch of BC. I'll be surprised if this doesn't get fixed.

i couldnt find the online pass in my download history. its likely i never redeemed the pass from my physical copy because i sold it on amazon (the gold edition was worth a bit at the time). i probably sent the code with the disc so i could sell it as "complete." so...i suppose this means the games on demand version comes with the pass?

It would seem that way from your experience. I tried looking online and couldn't find much either way. Two posts from 2012 on GF and some other forum. One person complained they had to buy the VIP to play online for the GoD version. The other pointed out to people that their GoD version came with VIP. You would think there would have been more complaining about paying extra for VIP on a digital purchase.

It would be even more shitty if this was taken out for GwG. We'll see if they respond or fix it today.

For those that haven't yet upgraded to Phil & Larry's Box of Joy, Amazon is throwing Mad Max in for free w/ most of their console bundles. (MM is one of my favorite games this year.)

The best bundle here is arguably the Holiday Bundle. Gears UE, Rare Replay, Ori and Max Max for just $399.

Seems like the Best Buy deal is a better option. They have that same holiday bundle for $399. Plus you can get a free $50 GC and a free game (under $59.99).

Got my NXE update last night.  Turned on the One and it was Gears' title screen, but I could here menu boops and beeps when I pressed up or down.  Couldn't get out of it and resetting it didn't help.  Ejecting the Gears disc did, however.  Watched the update go as I feared an issue cropping up, but turns out it was a Halloween treat and not a trick.  So far so good and it is quicker.  Most of my game tiles changed pictures.  They are the same as what happened one time before where without an update they changed and after a day or two they just changed back.  I love that the Rare Replay stuff has a RR Banner on it so I know which is which when I also own a regular digital copy.  Wish CoD Ghosts "Gold Edition" meant I was getting something extra.

Someone on TA states Codemasters replied to their VIP inquiry stating that the VIP is not included with GWG.

Spartacus Legends is having a TRIPLE XP MONTH.  I have to think the end is near on that ftp.

To add to this, there's a comment on Major Nelson's blog saying that Codemasters response said the pass WAS pulled specifically for GWG and that the regular Games on Demand version included it for free.

It's not the end of the world and I probably wouldn't have played much online. But to intentionally gimp a game for GwG is pretty sad. I really hope no one buys the pass just out of principle.

That's some fugging bullshit if you ask me, that said online is probably dead.

Sadly, that jives with tribal's previous experience with his purchase working online and with everyone's GWG not working. I deleted my VIP on my second box then downloaded DiRT3 and it would not play online either. If this is indeed the case, it's total bs and extremely disappointing that Codies would do such a thing. This isn't DWG(Demos with Gold), it's full games or nothing.

I bought Dirt 3 on sale a while ago when it was cheap. You're not missing anything without the pass. You're not missing much if you skip the game, in fact. Rally expansion for FH was just as good or better.
Of course, I got this through GwG. :)

But anyway, my family hijacked the TV. Still, can't play Dirt online so wouldn't matter.

Honesty would probably only play MP occasionally but it's annoying that it's not even an option unless I pay.
Haha no idea what I was thinking asking about live lmao. Yea when I turned it on for the first time it showed a message saying vip is needed for online and something else, with links to redeem code or buy or continue.

Anyone on the preview dash able to use it on the one (or do we have to wait until the 12th as well)?

The Dirt 3 issue should bother people since it seems very possible that could become a normal thing for GWG.  What about other games that have online components that get stripped out for GWG?  I could see that being an appealing option for publishers who want to make a little more money on an old game but don't want to support online functions or who want to find ways to sell some DLC.

This. It's a slippery slope. True DLC expansions are one thing but when you start stripping out functionality of a game that comes normally when bought new or digital, that's BS. And could lead to more stuff like this.

They purposely took it out. Why would they do that other than hoping to get more money through sales of the pass?

This does not look good and doesn't bode well for the future.

Haha no idea what I was thinking asking about live lmao. Yea when I turned it on for the first time it showed a message saying vip is needed for online and something else, with links to redeem code or buy or continue. Anyone on the preview dash able to use it on the one (or do we have to wait until the 12th as well)?
Not yet.

I can't really think of other games that did online passes aside from EA and Ubisoft titles, and EA made their stuff free and I doubt Ubisoft would try anything like that.

The notion of a Games with Gold game being offered without the ability to play it's online multiplayer without paying for an online pass on a service that you're paying for the ability to play online multiplayer is an odd development.

Anyone wondered if the publisher didnt want the online pass given away; and that MS did not have a say on whether or not it was part of the "free game"?
Yes, from what I have read, it sounds as if Codemasters may not have wanted it included. If that was the case, MS still had the option of going with another game. Like I said, when we get GwG, I think it's reasonable to assume that what is included in the digital version wouldn't be pulled out. Again, these passes are a used game deterrent, both the game bought new and the digital version have the pass included.

So we're being given a used game essentially.

I'm surprised so many people were planning on playing Dirt 3 online. I'm half-tempted to believe it is complaining just for complaining's sake and very "in Americka we as gamerz have rytes n stuff, wii R entitled to teh online passez."
I just find it very hard to believe so many of you were going to flock to a four year old game's online component. I assure you that the online racing communities are far more robust and active in Forza Horizon 2 and Forza 6. Just play those, no?

I'm not complaining just to complain. I'm complaining because it sets a bad precedent and, frankly, is pretty slimy when it was intentionally removed.

To my knowledge this is the first time actual content was removed from a digital version for GwG.

If 3 is anything like the first game then it is way different than Forza series

How many games actually kept the online pass bullshit? Dirt 3 is the only one I can think of. All EA stuff completely abandoned it. How will this become a precedent unless they literally create online passes for games that never had them to begin with.

I don't remember the first publisher to start this, but I want to say it was THQ with UFC 2010, things didn't turn out so well for them. I think Ubisoft started doing it too but is no longer doing it.

What if there's something else that is included with a GwG besides an online pass that they take out?

Doesn't matter, it's just slimy IMO. And anyone who doesn't think it is is entitled to their own opinion.

Guys here is a simple solution to the dirt 3 online pass problem. Don't buy it. If their plan was to make money off the online pass and no one buys it they will say hey that didn't work out so well. You know as well as I do though people will buy it. I can walk away from this stuff. I can also walk away from a game and not worry about increasing my nerd score. I don't have to get every achievement for a game.

I have lol'd more in the past few pages of this thread then ever before in here.

How many of you noticed there was an online component of dirt 3 before reading you couldn't access it on a forum? I claimed the game but prob won't boot up single player on it til I'm bored of Halo 5 and Fallout 4, so sometime in 2016 maybe.

I haven't looked at the achievements, but I'd gather some would be upset if there were a few tied to the online.

Just looked it up on Xbox Achievements.or

Online Achievements: 12 Achievements - 165GS.

I honestly think this has to be some kind of mistake. Hopefully they'll make that free as well soon.

You're missing the point. Most of those complaining are worried about potential developments of special versions of games being released as GWG or PS Plus that are missing components. Perhaps the overall concern is overblown, but it seems like something many publishers might be tempted to do.
