I really figured I'd buy Battleborn and Overwatch. After playing both, I don't think I'll get BB at all and I'll wait for a steep sale on Overwatch. Just not feeling either one very much.
 
So for those (everyone) saying Battleborn sucks... care to explain why? I remember playing the beta and I can't think of anything negative to say about it other than I couldn't figure out what was going on. I remember it being very pretty, and the characters and weapons were neat.

Just from playing it, it just doesn't scream get day one for me. It's not bad or anything but there's other stuff that I have and upcoming games that I'd rather play than OW.

I would say I'd wait for a sale but I just don't see the population being all that great when it hits a price I'd pay imo. In all likelihood, I won't ever play it again.

I wouldn't say it sucks but for me it's a huge time commitment. Prepare to spend upwards of 100+ hours to unlock all characters and finish all their respective lore challenges. I just can't commit to that with Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and Just Cause 3 still in my backlog. I can wait for a sale.
 
Has anyone recently confirmed that the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games both include the dlc with the digital version? I have disc versions of both, including the gold edition of the first one. Thinking about going digital and flipping for profit. Thanks. 

 
Two reasons OW > BB on my book are characters needing unlocks and the commitment to free content. I refuse to play for hours with characters I don't like to unlock some that I have no idea of I'll like. And Blizzard has promised that maps and heros will always be free for OW (they'll make a ton when loot boxes are made purchasable).

I'd give it some time. With Doom's snapmap feature, it will have a community. I'm picking it up day one.

So you have to unlock characters? So the Beta is not an actual demo of what the real game requires as a player. I though getting to play them all from the start was just expected. My decision is made if you have to grind to just play a certain character.

Yes. I have both digitally and they each contain the DLC characters.
 
Neither Battleborn or Overwatch did anything for me. Playing Oxenfree and and waiting for Uncharted 4...and plenty of backlog to keep me busy.

Oh and still have the last act of Quantum Break (which I found quite enjoyable and underrated) to finish.

Yes Halo MCC is a good purchase. But before you buy from Microsoft, check out the trading section on this forum and look for the Xbox game code thread. There may be a better deal for a MCC game code from a fellow CAG.
 
I couldn't resist and grabbed battlefront. So far really enjoy it, though I'm usually pretty terrible and get my ass handed to me. I always hate how long unlocks take in a game like this for bad players like myself!
Probably should have done the $20 disc at Meijer down the street, but I prefer digital for stuff like this. Now if I could find the season pass for half off...

Just finished up The Division.  I'm not sure if I actually enjoyed it or if I just wanted to hurry and get through it so I could trade it in.  I'm glad I didn't purchase the season pass with this.  Not that it was terrible, it just isn't my style of game.  I think I'll work on my backlog until Battlefield comes out.  And by work on I mean keep buying games and not playing them

Gone Home is one of the best game experiences I've had in a while. Very glad I went into it (relatively) blind-- I mean I was familiar with some of the discussion around the game but not as much with the story specifically. So much of the stuff in the game really resonated with me, just a really special experience. People should pick it up in this sale, and you should go into it to just discover the game for yourself, not with a "watch the prep videos first and bang out the achievements in 45 minutes" mindset. If I had known how much I was going to like it I would have paid the full $20 on day one, it's worth it.

I'll never understand the supposed superiority BF's developers and fans boast. BF3 was incredibly limited on consoles and PC alike, BF4 had a horrible launch and was nearly unplayable for months (it is amazing now), and Hardline was quite the disappointment. Now DICE shows an in-engine video with no gameplay whatsoever, and people are losing their shit about how COD is getting murdered. The last great Battlefield at launch was Bad Company 2, and that quite a while ago, and in the same time we had Black Ops 2 and 3 which (microtransactions of the new one aside) blow the latest BF games out of the water as far as enjoyment goes. BF1 looks fantastic and the new COD not so much, then again BO3's campaign looked boring and yet I loved the multilayered storyline and the hectic multiplayer. Given DICE's recent track record, I'd be very cautious (although the new Mirror's Edge seems pretty fantastic from the beta).

I think the fact that BO3 MP is so good is what has made me kind of meh with Battleborn and Overwatch and the BF1 trailer. I finally just broke down and bought the SP. I'll be playing to the next CoD, anyway.

I did buy RE Origins from BB yesterday, so I'm doing my CAG duty of buying games and not playing them.

"In engine" means they didn't farm out or produce the cutscenes through other CG applications or live action or something. The same physics and graphics engine is used for cutscenes and gameplay. Look at commercials for mobile games for counter examples; they show minimal gameplay plastered over with live action or animation created for the commercial.

"In game" means the clips were streamed from a player doing things that can be done live. The Battlefront trailers were a good example of gameplay footage with some editting and transitions thrown in, some of what you see exists only in the trailers but for the most part you could go do the stuff shown.


So the reveal video was made in Frostbite 3, but only a couple of the scenes were from a fps perspective and those couple may not have been gameplay but just more cutscenes.

BF will be the superior fps as long as they're the only ones with bullet drop and truly destructible cover/buildings. I also prefer the balance of vehicular and infantry combat, the multitude of real weapons, and the emphasis on teamplay (assisting, suppression, reviving downed teammmates, resupplying, and PTO earn you as many or more points than kills).

CoD continues to alienate me by grossly rewarding players that are already better skilled than me. If you can get 10 kills in a row without dying, do you really need to call in airstrikes and helicopter strafes to win? Killstreak rewards are dumb imo, they greatly reduce your chances of coming back in a game against veterans.

Yeah that's what I was saying in an earlier post, Call of Duty has the multiplayer down so tight it's tough with other games. I feel like Overwatch needs more game modes or something.

As far as the Battlefield vs Call of Duty business, I'm a big fan of both because of how different they play. The pacing of Battlefield is way more chill and strategic while Call of Duty is very twitch reflex. I hope they both continue to do that and one doesn't copy the other so that they are both useful.

I feel relatively safe with it being in engine instead of the normal complete prerendered trash.

Your perspective on killstreaks is perfect. I expect to die in shooters, especially when time to kill is so short that a few rounds can do it. It becomes anti-competitive quickly when the rich get dramatically richer. There is zero chance I'm killing 10 in a row, I'd rather die heroically while taking the objective.

Your objectives comment brings up another often forgotten issue. Most people play CoD to protect their K/D ratio. That's why in objective games you always have more than 50% of the team go off on their own and just kill other players without even trying to accomplish any objectives. It always peeves me when the guy that goes 35/2 starts talking trash even though someone with way less kills helped the team more than him in objective score.

Also the kill streaks can be taken off I think. There should be a mode where you play without them. I agree they get tedious when the other team is clearly outmatching yours. They tried to mitigate this somewhat by offering deathstreaks at one point but those were so terrible and you had to die too many times to even use them. Then they came out with support killstreaks which you build up even if you die but those again are terrible compared to the main ones.

I am still waiting for the not quite dead achievement in BL2 to unlock from well over a month ago too. I am level 72 now and got the achievements for level 10, 25 and 50. I even started a couple new characters and got them past level 5. But nothing pops.

Supposedly in April or maybe March there was a day where achievements were glitched in XBox One.

Maybe some day it will unlock but I am not holding my breath.

First of all, it has to be somewhat balanced. Second, it has to award good players by making it less about luck and more about skill, thus "forcing" new players to adapt and learn how to "git gud" before they can constantly get good results. Third, it has to be engaging.

I won't judge it by the third one because it's highly subjective, but I think BO3 is far from being either a balanced game or a rewarding game. There are too many variables that influence the game (crappy connection because of p2p, inconsistent number of hits to score a kill, thousands of weapon/perks/killstreaks combination that make it less about being strategic, map design that doesn't let you take control of the map).

People can (and will) complain as they want about COD4 having martyrdom and 3x frags, but that's much better than having an invisible helicopter that kills you instantly, a specialist perk that makes you place almost-invisible traps and microtransations-locked weapons.

I bet most of the people that's disliking COD IW on Youtube and insulting Activision for not making COD4R standalone didn't even play the original mp for more than 10 hours. They're going to be in for a big surprise once they see how that game is different from the Black Ops games they all love.

 
Just popped in Halo 5 for the first time in several months.

I see they still haven't added any maps that were more than bland uninspired garbage.

Hell, Halo 4 had more interesting maps than this!
