Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

$6 back is nice for such a great game! I'd buy it again if I didn't already own it!
Ughhh. Just bought it yesterday for $7.50 after my GameStop trade ins...

For those of you complaining about the better sales on PSN, be happy that on XBL we are able to purchase GWG games when they go on sale.  That way we get to keep the games if we ever let our XBL subscription run out.  It seems there is no such option with PS+ and their PS+ free games.

Another "master the level and get 3 stars" type of game? To me, that's as bad as the CCG genre to other people. That's the main reason I stopped playing the Assassin's Creed Chronicles games. I enjoyed them for what they are but some part of me wants to get 3 stars on every part but I don't care to go back and master every section.
I'm the same. The first run through I did of whichever AC Chronicles game was free, I really enjoyed it. After going back through the levels to get all the stars, collectibles, etc. I had no desire to seek out the others in the series. Sometimes I get into a mode where I'm determined to max out stars, etc., but it's hard to say I'm enjoying myself in that mindset, lol. Maybe that brief moment where you get past a tough section, lol.

I guess it's good to have that option, but I will never let my gold run out, and if I did, I can't imagine being worried about not being able to play Max: The Curse of Brotherhood again.

These two were my favorites of yours. You guys really nailed 'em.
I Got captured in the desert by terrorists and bitten by spiders to get into character. It's how dedicated I am to the craft.

I'd still rather have better sales...

I never got into LOTR, is Mordor still worth it? For $4, it sounds worth it given all the praise I've heard for it.

I'm officially hooked on Andromeda. Have been up the last 2 nights, and when the SP starts to feel tiresome (sooo many sidequests) I end up playing MP for too long. Part of me wants to rush through it before classes resume, but I may have to take breaks and play other things. I did the same thing with Fallout 3, I was either playing it nonstop for a whole weekend or not touching it for a month.

People asking about Overcooked - it's a lot of fun with other people but it gets very challenging very quickly. I played it for the first time on the 4th with my best friend and her husband, and they aren't as motivated by the "one-more-try!" mentality to beat a level or win 3 stars. I think enjoyment depends on who you're playing with, in that regard. Apparently some people have fun playing solo where you control multiple chefs and alternate between them, but I don't know if I'm that cool.
Andromeda is a great game IMO on my first play through I tried to do everything to get the most out of it and ended up with a 98% game completion at 118 hrs on hardcore.2nd play through was insane and plowed through main missions to get the achievement.

Same here, with sales I believe my XBL subscription is good for just under 2 years right now. But a better analogy to my current issue with Uncharted Golden Abyss would be Halo Reach.

Well, I wouldn't compare it to a game like AC. The levels are timed, usually less than 5 minutes per round, and the whole game is centered around efficiency and your score for making orders correctly. To my knowledge, none of the levels are locked behind a score requirement, there's just a lot to do for dedicated players since 3 stars on some levels are super challenging. I get hooked on score attack games like that so I find it intimidating, but not unappealing.

For those of you complaining about the better sales on PSN, be happy that on XBL we are able to purchase GWG games when they go on sale. That way we get to keep the games if we ever let our XBL subscription run out. It seems there is no such option with PS+ and their PS+ free games.
"But you already own it."

This was my biggest pet peeve when I was a subscriber, there were a few games I'd have gladly bought to keep when they went on sale after getting to play them via PS+, but Sony didn't want my money.

Andromeda is a great game IMO on my first play through I tried to do everything to get the most out of it and ended up with a 98% game completion at 118 hrs on hardcore.2nd play through was insane and plowed through main missions to get the achievement.
This is what I'm planning to do.

Mordor is a lot of fun, I would recommend it if you like Assassins creed or the Arkham games. They do well with the nemisis system to keep it entertaining and it won't take long to beat. Smooth controls make you feel like a sword wielding bad ass as you slice through enimies with ease.

It's not a perfect system on XBL, as I've said before when it will gladly let me pay another $30 for a game I already own because the system is messed up. Microsoft needs to offer a way to explicitly tell you if you own something or not and how you own it, as it's very unclear on Xbox Live.

I never said it was perfect. MS's way works for me because I am used to the way they do things as their ecosystems (PC, Xbox, Windows Phone) are what I primarily use for 99% of my gaming. It is clear to those of us that are vested in the ecosystem and have been using it for a long time. Just like you are way more knowledgeable in the PSN ways than I am. Sony is not letting me give them money I am gladly willing to hand over, not a perfect system either. We will all be disappointed at one point or another because I am willing to bet there will never be a perfect system, ever (PC, Sony, Nintendo, MS, Apple, etc).

This is probably nothing. But, sharing in case they announce a Reach remaster today lol.

I too am not a big fan of LOTR but I enjoyed Shadow of Mordor for what it was.
For 4, I grabbed it again

I'm comparing the games from the aspect of each has sections or levels that can be completed with either 1 or 2 or 3 stars, depending on how well you do. My issue boils down to the fact that I don't want to have to do everything in a section perfect in order to get the best rating because sometimes there is an achievement that is tied to that. Games like Angry Birds are worse because they actually lock progression down behind this performance wall (but the game is so fucking cute it gets a pass).

Never said you did say it was perfect, so you don't need to fixate on that. Felt like sharing some info with you about a major flaw in the system that can bite you in the ass if you're not careful since XBL doesn't really have the clear info to tell you what you do or don't own. Since you were asking for info in the other thread, I thought you might appreciate more info here as you continued the thread. If you're not interested in that, I apologize.

I appreciate your info and your help in answering a Sony question, that's why I posted in the PSN thread instead of here. I know that I can count on people to help out, thanks! Yes, you didn't say I said..you said....what were we talking about?

I didn't bash PSN or PS+ in that thread, nor start a pointless console superiority argument over there. My point of view is heavily biassed in the Microsoft direction and posted my PSN experience here to commiserate with other XBL biased people, like me, that are annoyed at how PSN does things differently than what we are used to (sarcastic "How dare they?!") and to make us feel a tiny bit better that PSN has better sales right now.

If being tied to achievements bothers you, then I got bad news: You get a 1GS (yes, one, uno) for the first level you complete, and you get 199GS for 3-starring every level. I really hate when it's not a zero or 5, and when the 1GS popped up while we were playing, my heart sank. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT.

Also, they're just doing a special Halo 5 playlist for Halo 3's ten year anniversary. They're using community Forge maps, so these "classic" gameplay settings better change a hell of a lot for the mode to actually be worth a shit.

HALO 3’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY (NOT HALO 3: ANNIVERSARY)
Like most of you we’re also filled with a mix of emotions at the upcoming 10th anniversary of Halo 3 – “Wow, it’s been ten years!? I feel old” and “Damn Halo 3 was awesome” being two common examples. You’ll have a few different ways you can celebrate this momentous milestone – in addition to the eventual release of Halo 3 back-compat on Xbox One, the team is also planning a special Halo 3 Anniversary Throwback playlist for Halo 5. This new matchmaking offering is being built from scratch on a selection of incredible community-made Halo 3 maps created with Forge in Halo 5 and will feature “classic” gameplay settings. We’re also cooking up a fun commemorative live stream that should offer good times and a hearty helping of giveaways. Stay tuned!

Halo 4 DLC automatically unlocks all gamerscore associated with it since it was the only way 343 could fix achievement glitches people where having. I am liking this a lot!
lol, I never heard that. I only ever bought the map pack that added The Pit and the Ricochet gametype, definitely the most fun mode I ever played in Halo 4.

It's cool that people who already paid for Halo can play it on the X1 but Halo MCC had better resolution AND was 60fps.

I mean, if they want to re-code it to have 60fps on all the old titles that would be swell.

But Halo MCC *really* needs a 4k Patch. I don't understand why it's not getting the X treatment.

Either way that's cool news.

Halo 5 is gonna look glorious in 4k. Something we can ALL fap to.

Yeah, I bought the Crimson Map Pack and stopped playing it when people reported multiple issues with achievements not unlocking. After months of not playing and hearing about the 343 fix, I loaded the game and bloop, multiple achievements unlocked and an instant 250 GS

LOL, I actually don't mind the "odd" GS I have at any given time (finally hit 30K woot). Are we diametric opposites? :)

Can you imagine how big Halo 5 will be when it goes 4K? Also, can you imagine how big TMCC would be if it goes 4K? That 1TB drive is looking pretty puny.

@David Hibiki

Agreed. The BC stuff is fine - but MCC kinda makes those games moot.
Must have moar higher numbers in my Game & Apps app. I am positive there is a secret achievement for reaching 1000 games installed.

This is still good because it'll mean we'll now be able to play the original Halo 3 playlists instead of the one hodgepodge in MCC, and ODST's Firefight. The 360 version of Halo 3 (and ODST, 4, and Reach) also has LAN support, while the MCC does not.

On the negative side it will also mean Halo 4's playlists will be available.

Although I don’t play multiplayer, a lot of people still complain about the issues MCC has with it so I’d imagine they’d be happy to play the multiplayer in the original games via BC.

Definitely, I only think MCC is better for the campaign. While the higher framerate and resolution is definitely a plus, the jank of the multiplayer in MCC keeps me from playing it much. You're bought back to the menu after every game, no one ever has mics, and you still see weird matching glitches occasionally. I don't think it's very good for custom games either.

Zero excitement over that announcement. Not really going back to Halo over 4K. BC basically useless with MCC.

Ark: Survival Evolved apparently jumped up to $60 before it actually leaves early access/Game Preview. It just happened on PC, I guess it's been a couple weeks on Xbox.

I keep saying it, I think all games should be BC so that people who already own games can keep using the titles they've already purchased. Plus, I've never played Firefight, maybe this means enough people will be on it that it won't only be the hardcore experts who would boot a noob like myself.

Funny, 30k is my meaningless goal for the summer (currently at ~24k), although Andromeda may actually make it a challenge. So, maybe less opposite than you think? ;)

My guess is, now that the SP in MCC is fully playable, they don't want to risk breaking anything with any more updates, let alone spending time/money on it. Pretty surprising all around for MS' biggest franchise.

Makes sense with Ark it's a hugely popular game. People will still buy it.

As for those huge 4k patches... well needless to say I'm keeping an eye on the 8TB deals over the holiday season. Knowing my luck a 10tb will be out in January.

The Halo's also knock out some BIG requested titles for BC on uservoice.

Halo 4 was #9 in votes

Halo 3 was #10 in votes

Halo 3 ODST was #16 in votes

This basically leaves Skyrim alone as a singular title. The rest of the games in the top 10 will be either Call of Duty, Rockstar Games or Batman games. LA Noire has entered the top 10 thanks to the Halo games dropping out.

Eventual. Ha!

It sounds like they're just taking Forge created maps and slapping their names on it.

-All 360 Halo titles will be BC this year

Also still, having a massive backlog I still consider DA Inquisition GOTY and Mordor GOTY at this point...

All that Halo news was good until I was reminded that the season pass just get you skirmish leaders, and the not the campaign expansion.

They could give MCC owners all four of those games for free, which would help a lot after the disaster that was MCC. They've already saturated the market for the original four Gears games with many, many opportunities for free codes, so they could do the same for the Halo games. I think I already have 3 and Reach due to GWG and other MS promotions, so I'd just need 1, 2, and 4.

Has there every been population numbers on playlists in Halo games? I'm curious if they've changed things for Halo 5 or if MCC is how every game handles it.

Fable Anniversary is now #15 and Crackdown #18.

Here's the top 20 minus Halo 3, 4 and ODST:

  1. COD: Modern Warfare 2.
  2. Skyrim.
  3. COD: Modern Warfare 3.
  4. COD: Modern Warfare.
  5. GTA: San Andreas.
  6. Batman Arkham City.
  7. GTA V.
  8. Batman Arkham Asylum.
  9. L.A. Noire.
  10. Batman Arkham Origins.
  11. Saints Row The Third.
  12. Dishonored.
  13. Dead Island.
  14. Mafia II.
  15. Fable Anniversary.
  16. Forza Motorsport 4.
  17. Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 HD Collection.
  18. Crackdown.
  19. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
  20. Resident Evil 4.

You could probably set up a second PSN account that doesn't have PS+. Set it to make your PS4 the primary console. Use that account to buy the PS+ games with real money or credit. Should work I would think. But like the others I am not going to let my subs expire. And if I did the games come back when you resubscribe. I used to watch people whine about this in the PSN deals thread and was like BFD.

Also like others have been saying both systems have their annoying / stupid problems. Not being able to buy 360 games on their website or from a XBox One console with Live credit is stupid. Having to manually sync trophies on PS4 is IMO stupid. Not being able to buy a game that is already free with your PS+ sub is lame but not a big deal to me. Having to have a credit card (or Visa/MC gift card) on file to claim the free GWG 360s is annoying. I try to figure out how to get the most out of each system even with some of the "dumb" things they do.

I have way more games (And I am probably not as bad as most here) then I will ever play. So even if I let my subs lapse I would be fine for a few years if I just played though the games I care about in my backlog.

I think it's a mix of honey mustard and BBQ and ranch and unicorn juice.

This is technically an option, but one which I never bothered with since most of the sale prices which are actually worth getting excited about are exclusive to PS+ members, much like DWG.

Yeah you are correct. I think PS+ typically gives another 10% of most of the time. Forgot about that.
