Been playing Red Faction Armageddon. It's better than I expected, but I see why people wanting a Guerrilla sequel were so disappointed. It has some interesting guns and the destructible environments are pretty cool, though the lack of destructible terrain is kind of a bummer. You'd think scaling way back from the open world of Guerrilla would have made if feasible like the original two games, but I guess not. I did have to tweak a bunch of settings to make if feel decent, turning off auto-aim,increasing sensitivity, and some other stuff. Definitely worth checking out if you like third-person shooters like Gears. 

It is sort of reminding me of Binary Domain for some reason, but thinking about it there aren't really many similarities. Maybe just the slightly worse overall feel than Gears maybe? Speaking of Binary Domain, I hope Sega gives that the green light eventually, definitely deserves to be played by more people. Anyways, looking into it it seems THQ Nordic ended up with the rights to Red Faction, but Volition doesn't want to work on it anymore. Hopefully they do something with the franchise down the road.

Newegg regularly sells 1 yr codes for <$25, but I understand your point and see the logic of your decision. Lame that the redemption got borked.


I'm torn between Prey, Bioshock, and Shadow Warrior 2. I already have the 360 versions of all the Bioshocks, is it worth it for the omgHD and DLC? Prey looks alright if you think of it as System Shock 3 rather than Prey 2, but there's only so many -shock games one can take. I picked up SW 1 but got bored. Despite the poor reviews of the sequel, the loot, mission structure, and coop look like they would have the hook the 1st was missing for me. Any thoughts one way or the other on those?

The vault is just rented games, I'd rather pay $5, $10, or $20 and own it forever, instead of just renting for $5 a month. It's not a Bad deal for people that don't already own a good chunk of the games, not a good deal though if there's only one or two of your favorite games. Better to buy when possible than just rent when it's a game you love.

this is also my take on it. i tried ea access with a free trial and didnt much enjoyment out of it since I dont care for sports games and thats half the selection of games. I know theyve added a lot more to it now including 360 games but I too own the majority id want to play through sales. I feel the same way about PS Plus. though xbox live has become the same way with their gwg xb1 games. thankfully we still get to keep the 360 titles.

I've picked no rush shipping and 8/10 times they still ship it in the two day period. Especially if you order one item 2 day and do the other no rush shipping.

My predictions for GWG: Crackdown 2 and Far Cry 3for the 360. XBox One will be Lococycle and The Lego Movie Video Game.

Oh it's the Ferrari F12tdf, I races with the Ferrari F12TDF and then got nothing!

Nah nah JDwagg hooked me up with another race so I got the last VIP Forzathon Challenge. I was so mad though but we raced Ultimas in the jungle lol and the AI couldn't handle them going all over the place. That made up for my anger lol.

I know we're getting OG Xbox BC so probably no hope for an Xbox Replay. I kept those in, and besides those mentioned was seeing a lot of games with situations like that with 360 and One versions. Always a chance since it's happened before. I only took out Kinect and the Halo games since they were already announced.

 
Very productive FH3 session last night.

Advanced from level 45 to 64. Finally made tier 7 (been stuck at 6 for over a year). Completed all Forzathon events.

Not yet. I looked at the included art book. I stalled on Ninja storm 4 because I need to finish the last 40 episodes of Naruto Shippuden. At 800+ episodes plus movies and ova, that show has consumed so much of my life it should be listed as a dependent on my taxes.

I've been trying to hammer through the rest of Destiny before Destiny 2 comes out.

I definitely want to crack it open though. Maybe tonight after I do some responsible things.

Shinobi Striker is coming out and that has Xbox Live multilayer. May want to add that to my collection as well.

I'm torn between Prey, Bioshock, and Shadow Warrior 2. I already have the 360 versions of all the Bioshocks, is it worth it for the omgHD and DLC? Prey looks alright if you think of it as System Shock 3 rather than Prey 2, but there's only so many -shock games one can take. I picked up SW 1 but got bored. The Bioshock remasters are gorgeous and play great without making any big changes for better or worse. There are a few gaming conventions from 10 years ago that I wish they had updated for example but the games play just as you remember them warts and all. Which is good from a preservationist perspective but I would have welcomed a few modifications.

Since you own The Originals, I think $30 is way too much for what they are. Once it inevitably hits 20 I think that's a great price especially with all the DLC included.

With the success of Sonic Mania, hopefully Sega will have an interest in revisiting some old properties. Releaae updated versions of old games with some new content, charge $20 each on XBL, and then put out a physical disk compilation. I'd buy it.

I'd sure as hell buy a proper Crazy Taxi sequel with new music... I loved that game on Dreamcast.

When the collection came out, you couldn't record clips nor take screenshots, has this been changed?

Me too. I borrowed a Dreamcast from a friend and rented Crazy Taxi, I think the first night I had it I was up until 4am. An updated version with better physics and a SP campaign of some kind would be amazing - the strict arcade mode of the original runs out of steam eventually, but it wouldn't be hard to expand on it the way Sonic Racing Transformed had such a great campaign. You could unlock a bunch of Sega characters to drive with their own attributes...

Also, I already liked the band, but that game might be responsible for solidifying my love of Bad Religion. You know a game is fun if the soundtrack plays the same ~8 short songs and you're having too much fun to get sick of them.

Nope. They don't want clips to spoil things and flat-out disabled the feature, which is kind of unfortunate. I had a few Big Daddy kills I would have loved to save clips of, the nature of the weapons and trap setups lends itself well to the whole DVR thing, and it's totally disabled. The BC versions may not have this restriction (no idea), but that may be a point in their favor.

Honestly, I’d prefer a House or the Dead with the same on-rails style as the old ones. Isn’t that the point with the new Sonic game? To not fuck with the original style of gameplay?
 
Kinda but without a gun controller seems silly. Not that they are going to do either. But it would be nice if they would release a collection. HOTD 1-4, TOTD and POTD Included be pretty sweet.

Good month! I don't own any of the four and will at least try all of them, wheras I haven't even bothered to try some of the games in recent months. I did have Forza 5 briefly but got rid of it, but for free I'll jump in and do a sim race now and then even though I prefer the Horizon series. Oxenfree is one I considered buying several times while it was on sale. Hooray for indecisiveness!

Glad I didn't buy Forza 5 during that crazy sale now. Oxenfree is a really good game! If you're a fan of Life is Strange you'll probably like it even more..... it just has a more campy feel in my opinion. I've been meaning to replay it to try for a different ending but it hasn't happened yet. Nothing like getting all your friends killed!

The others, meh.  Forza is not for everyone (I prefer Horizons); driving in circles on the same maps (Motorsports) vs. free roam (Horizons).   And already played BF3 to death back in the day.

 
Watch out for Battlefield 3. I bought the premium edition off Amazon earlier this year and started a campaign run. I was halfway through my run when a save bug wiped all my progress. DICE never fixed this issue and I wish I was aware of it before dropping $25 on it.

I already 100%d Oxenfree (great game, genuinely creepy at times), and I have no interest in racing games. Nothing for me personally this month.

Oxenfree and Hydro Thunder FTW. I don't get into military shooters that much so BF3 may not get played but I'll never complain about free games, especially since 360 games aren't tied to being subscribed. I do like how the campaigns are usually pretty short and can satisfy that desire to blow shit up.

I'm usually terrible at racing sims and don't think Motorsport will change that, but I'll give it a shot.

 
I've wanted Oxenfree and Hyrdro Thunder, decent month.

I don't know if Sega has any other Genesis era series that could really get the Mania treatment. Sonic is a special case for a bunch of reason. First, the miles ahead popularity it has over their other stuff, and second being the massive fan game community Sonic has had for near 20 years now. Streets of Rage is the only one that seems remotely possible. Even if they didn't go the fan route, I think they would have to hire an external developer or some new blood as it doesn't seem like Sega has anyone capable of classic 2D outside of maybe Sonic.

If we go more modern there are a lot more possibilities. Personally I'd like a new Jet Set Radio or Space Channel 5, but I think it's the same situation where I think they need external teams. Even with Shenmue III they basically licensed the series out to the original creator's new studio. It's not that they don't have capable studios now, but they all have their own stuff to work on like Yakuza or modern Sonic, and Atlus is still doing their own thing.

 
Happy to have BF3 digitally even though I own the disc.  Bummed that I recently purchased Oxenfree in a recent sale, but you can't win them all, I guess.  Forza MS 5 and Hydro Thunder Hurricane are nice, though.

Power Stone 2 was my jam back in high school. Would bring that, Soul Calibur, and MvC 2 and play classmates backstage during tech week for shows. I need to dig it out of storage. The Dreamcast was also the first system I learned how to mod/edit/hack- which led me to turning the OG Xbox's into ridiculous XBMC machines in college. Buy them cheap off craigslist, hack them into XBMC, replace the HDD with a 250gb, load up all the current relevant titles, do a custom paint job, then give them away to friends.

Now I just use an old OUYA and run KODI on it for my media needs. Waiting for the day KODI makes it's way to XB1.

 
With Forza 7 on the horizon, I wish they had given away Forza 6 but guess can’t be too greedy. Already have all of the others and had traded Forza 5 in so that’ll be fine to have back.

That said I’d still say it’s a good month.

I did the same thing with the OG Xbox. Friends would hunt down cheap systems and throw me $20 for my time. A guy I know was on tour with his band and his house burned down, I gave him a modded Xbox loaded up with NES and SNES games. He was ecstatic.

And yes, for the love of Optimus Christ, an XBL port of the Powerstone Collection would make me very happy.

 
That's a solid GWG lineup. All new games for me. Played a bit of Forza 5 back when it was new, but its long gone. Looking forward to Hydro Thunder, too. Loved that in the arcade.

Yes to Dynamite Cop. More Indies need to make DC type games. There was one on the original PS I loved but can't remember the title. Power something or another. Originally played the demo on a PS Underground disc.
