Yeah and it’s bullshit too because I cancelled a week ago. So now I may have to go through the motions with returning something I never expected to be shipped.

BTW, when did you notice that they charged you? When you got your statement?
 
How long until these loot crates go the way of online passes?

I’d argue only one company has done this annoying practice right, EA. The Ultimate Team modes in their sports games have been around longest and they’re fairly well balanced at this point. The biggest reason why is that they have an auction house for cards. I’ve been able to put together good teams in FIFA and NHL with out spending cash, just the in game coins earned though gameplay and selling cards I didn’t want or need.

Compare that to Gears 4. Oh you’re trying to level up your sniper class? Tough shit, here’s cards two levels beyond where your scout is! Halo Wars 2’s Blitz mode is the same. You can only deploy units from your deck, and if you don’t have cards for a specific unit, too bad.

I haven’t put enough time into Forza 7 to see what those crates are all about, but the fact there are some cars you can only get from crates annoys me.

I think they are here to stay unfortunately. If games like Shadow of War sell well with this in it and people buy the loot crates for real money why wouldn't they keep on doing it? Some of these games have insane budgets. They are trying to make the money back and then a profit. I can sort of understand their POV. Many years ago I used to buy games as they came out for $60 and almost never bought the season passes. But I became CAG and buy 1 or 2 new games a year for $48. I usually do the buy 2 get 1 free at Target. Most everything else I wait till it is cheaper. Sure most people just buy the game for $60 on day/week one. But the price hasn't gone up in 9 years that I have been back in gaming for the base game.

Sucks but I think this crap is here to stay. Hope I am wrong. Or I hope it only affects infects some games. Those I will just wait till they are cheaper. But do the vast majority of video game players care enough to vote with their wallets? I don't think so. Especially young to teenage kids who get many of their games for presents anyway.

I didn't care for it in Gears of War 4 to be honest. Just seems weird playing around with cards and stuff. That isn't what Gears was about IMO.

I found it decent enough. Really shines in co-op but even solo it is fun IMO.

I played with a group over on PS4. I wanted to get the plat and finished up the rest of it on my own. Also 100% one of the second DLC. Waiting for one of those guys to pick up the other DLC to play that with him but he isn't gaming much lately.

Once while flying in the helicopter with my teammates I accidentally deployed the drone. It crashed into the propeller and took down our chopper. They didn't know WTF happened. It was pretty funny. Did it once or twice more on purpose. lol
I got it at Target with Cartwheel for a decent price. They converted the Gold to the same DPCI so I was able to get the Gold for the same price as the base game which I already had. On PS4 the season pass is just a code that is in the box. Redeemed that and traded the disc to GS on my way home. Was cheaper then buying the season pass on PSN. I think on XBox One the disc is different between the base and gold.

Probably still going for $59.99 though at Target so probably not worth it anymore.

One thing I should point out is that, unless they pulled it, there is a full game trial of Wildlands. A pretty generous 5 hours too. I’ve played a little and found it fun, but need to put more time into it. Sadly, with my backlog, 5 hours will probably carry me long enough to never buy it. ;)

I see that Wildlands is going to be an Xbox One X Enhanced game - with some form of 4K and HDR.  That's a big plus for me.  Maybe I'll get it.

Then again, I told myself if I bought The Division - another Ubisoft quasi-open-world game - that I'd play it if I picked it up on sale, and I still haven't scratched the surface of it several months later.

Totally different games. The little I played of The Division I didn't care for it that much. Certainly not enough to go it alone. Probably would have been a better experience for me if I played it with a group when it was new. Ended up trading that back in.

 
Speaking of loot crates they fucked it all to hell when they added that shit to MWR.Just keep the game how it was on ps3/x360 and I'd be happy but no Activision said "we want yo munnies" so we are going to add loot crates.
 
I'm thinking this week would be a good time for Friday the 13th: The Game to finally go on sale with the actual date coming up this Friday.

Good to know. I sort of wanted this but when it was only available with $100 Infinite warfare version I was like F that. I knew eventually they would sell it stand alone. Hasn't dropped enough for me though.

 
Modern Warfare is what made me end up not even buying CoD last year. I've bought it all 3 years prior. I wanted the 2 pack but didn't want to spend $100 and then as time went on I just cared less about playing it. Now I'm just waiting for WW2.

So I decide to check out this Creations Club thing in Skyrim Special Edition last night. It prompts for an update, ah shit this'll be a while for me so I set it up and let it run its course. Ok, update finished over the night and so I boot the game up today. Go into Creations Club and it says sign in and link your account. I go ahead and it loads up the stuff and I see Survival Mode discounted for free on the left and before I go to click on it the game says it timed out & kicked me back to the login prompt. Thing is it never asked me for my password the first time, it just linked accounts so I tried the password for my Bethesda.net account, which I signed up when I tried out Fallout Shelter on my Win 10 PC, and that doesn't work either. Welp, that's bogus.

Then I decide to load my game, which I haven't played in ages, and I'm stuck on an auto-save where my horse is flying in the air. The only way to get out of the glitched loop is to jump off, not disembark but jump, off the horse and it's killed instantly...

It's more wishing out loud. Can't fault a gamer for being optimistic. I've been waiting for a sale since it was released. It got one on PSN a couple months back but nothing for Xbox.

While I've already spoken about not being against loot crates in games and actually enjoying them as they give me more reason to keep playing (Like in the old Halos I had everything so fast with nothing to get, now in 5 I still always get stuff.) It does suck if they give a big advantage, but when it's just cosmetic or things for coop/single player, it helps everyone since it helps the company improve the game still, while yes, I think it' weird to buy a game and then have them for just cosmetics (Example: Killing Floor 2) all of the actual maps and game modes and guns they have added have been free, since enough people spend a lot on cosmetic stuff, when you see the prices some like counter strike skins go for, yeah; it's definitely here to stay.

I hear that most of the launch problems for Xbox matchmaking still exist. I bought it at launch and got a refund because it was basically unplayable. You might be better off waiting for a sale at this point and reading recent reviews after the disc comes out.

Thanks for the advice. The rational side of my brain says to wait but the Friday the 13th fan wants to just buy it already. I'll try to be strong.
 
Nothing appears to be counting down for date night tonight.  The various FIFA 18 editions are counting down to midnight Eastern.  The game just came out a couple weeks ago, so it seems early to be a sale.  If it is a sale, hopefully it doesn't indicate a shift of when sales go live.

 
I need a good sale to compensate after throwing up last night when I saw, again, Nakamura jobbing to Jinder Mahal, clean. And to think he'll remain champion for the rest of the year amd perhaps all the way to Wrestlemania 34.........oh well.

If I wanted to split hairs, then I'd say New Day vs Usos took place before Nakamura/Mahal so it doesn't count :razz: Granted, we should've known it was going to be that way because Jinder's heading to India at the end of this week and then there's that big tour in December. So, yeah.....but still, come on!

I’d argue only one company has done this annoying practice right, EA. The Ultimate Team modes in their sports games have been around longest and they’re fairly well balanced at this point. I haven’t put enough time into Forza 7 to see what those crates are all about, but the fact there are some cars you can only get from crates annoys me.

I don't think I'd say EA has done it right, they just hit us with the Battlefront 2 system we're currently bitching about. And while Mass Effect's multiplayer was only co-op, you had to pray to the RNG gods to get a character you wanted, and it's practically impossible to rank up the rarest characters. The only one that I've played that I really found acceptable is Overwatch, with it being ONLY cosmetics, and the ability to craft everything.

I don't see lootboxes going away soon, at bare minimum the fad has a year or two left. The best we can hope for is the backlash against games like Shadow of War or Dead Space 3 keeping them out of single-player focused games. When you see a game as big as Battlefront switch from a $50 season pass to lootboxes, you know something is changing.

I think the final show that they're here to stay is Call of Duty. If they do away with paid map packs than it's a long-term trend. They still haven't done it because their fanbase will still buy the DLC on top of the new game every year, AND still buy lootboxes, and Destiny is in a similar situation. There was just some article that Activision-Blizzard made nearly $4 billion in the last year from stuff like lootboxes alone.

Just don't earn you're easy Arcade boxes until the event is actually up tomorrow. If you've never actually played on your account you'll be able to get a lot of rewards during the event between all the Arcade boxes and the fast leveling up to 20.
